I love my Fjord Blue C40 Recharge. The boy is a beast of a power, slick, simply designed, sexy as it’s curves and power. It has gotten so many compliments from strangers (at Costco), family, friends especially on the color. The mountain ranges inscribed on the dash and windows make it a absolute delight “gives me a lounge kind of relaxing environment”. The google built in architecture is flawless, and Perhaps the most iconic feature of the new 2022 Volvo C40 is its stylish exterior. The sloping roofline, modern interior, and ecstatic demeanor make it a formidable contender in the compact SUV segment. With OTA 2.2 software update, the Apple Car Play is awesome!. I am an iPhone geek, but have been an Android guy too! There is just enough space for grocery bags stashed from Trader Joe’s, Costco or whatever! I have had buddies driving Teslas Model Y, X…who are impressed with its sexiness and versatility. I still cannot spot a C40 in and around 6 states where I live. It’s a very special and unique product that I believe Volvo head honchos did a solid work with. The sustainability processes and materials used in the development process makes me as an Owner feel like a sustainable maven. So long to the gasoline stupidity! 🙌🙂.
Great video as usual! But, I don't quiet get why you folks don't like the one-pedal drive in EVs. Zach mentioned several times that it makes him feel sick. But I found it makes the drive more smooth. You just need to release the accelerator pedal gently bit by bit, and it will slow down really smoothly!
The one pedal drive in the i3 turned me off. Coasting is much nicer. Having to keep your foot at a precise pressure in order to keep the ride consistent causes anxiety.
In Canada the single trim (loaded) C40 was unbundled In June 2022. It is now available in three trims that are directly comparable to the XC40 Recharge's trims: Core, Plus and Ultimate. Considering that the XC40 Recharge's Core and Plus trims are eligible for the $5k Canadian federal rebate, and the two cars are priced the same for each trim, I expect the C40 will also qualify for the rebate for the Core and Plus trims. Frustratingly, adaptive cruise control is only available in Ultimate trim (for both cars). Consider the Core trims with the Climate Package and metallic paint, about $63k before tax and the rebate. Note the C40 gets a non-opening sunroof in all trims whereas the XC40 Recharge gets a steel roof in the Core trim and an opening sunroof with retractable shade with the two higher trims. Apple CarPlay was included in an over-the-air software update (v2.2 ) in July, 2022.
Another great review from you guys! I remember staying at Howard Johnsons growing up as a child in the 60’s/70’s. I forgot about the blue carpet in their rooms. I Googled it and sure enough, it’s almost EXACTLY the same shade of blue as that of the Volvo!! I got a good laugh out of that!!
I so appreciate it when you plainly state the negatives and your true impressions as Andrea did in the conclusion. So many reviewers are "rah rah" about all the positive aspects and simple gloss over - or worse ignore -- the negative aspects.

Zach’s rant about the lack of AM radio and what that means for Apple CarPlay made me laugh out loud! He was so indignant! 😂 Rightly so, but still, lol!!
Maybe it's a euro thing where they don't use AM like North America does for emergency updates. Here in Newfoundland most of the bad weather reports and emergency news is all on AM in most locations. I like that it boils down to sports talk for Zack though lol!
@@bcluett1697 Lol, yeah, the fact that his frustration was due to not being able to listen to the local sports channel tickled me! That being said, the absence of AM radio is kind of weird. In no small part due to Zach and Andrea (I continue to be grateful to them, 8 months later!) I purchased the gas version of the 2022 XC40. I have AM radio and live in the US. I wonder why the C40 doesn’t have it? I wonder if it’s a quirk of it being the first model year for this vehicle?
Zach is totally right on EV's MSRP, it is not affordable to many families wanting to save gas money. PHEV and HEV are still a better bargain at this moment.....my 0.02.
My opinion? The tyres are too big (18”s would have looked my balanced) and I think the front end could have been styled… better?… differently?… something is not quite as… cohesive(?) style-wise. Aside from that, it looks like an excellent product. But because of it’s price…. I’d recommend to anyone to seriously consider going to an Audi dealership. They’ve hit a home run in this category. Thanks for the video.
i just rewatched the CX40 recharge video you guys made last year, during the comparison with other vehicles, the model y was the first competitor at 70K!! holllyyyyyyyy 12k difference in one year, sticking with my ioniq 5
Great video. This vehicle was on my list of next buy options along with the XC40 electric. However, I am not an electric fan and only wanted it for the extra horsepower as we own a 2020 XC40 T5 gas version. The turn away was the obscured back window which is why I also did not go for the BMW X2 M35i and just purchased a 2022 Mercedes GLA 35 that I am loving. I also got $3,200 off sticker price which is unheard of in this market. Thanks for the review.
My nephew drives the Tesla Y and my best friend's wife has this model Volvo. My nephew thinks the Tesla is just OK, but isn't impressed by its quality, or value. On the other hand, the Volvo is loved by my friend's wife. Personally, I agree once again with both of you, both blow in the VALUE department. And that's what drives me as a consumer. 👎
So what is the best "value" electic car then? So good range, good driving experience, big enough to handle family duty, and a price tag that isn't out of reach for the average family. I don't think I've seen you call a car a miss before(it is deserved in this case).
Disagree with Zacks Android comments. However, I completely agree with your point on having AM available. Having to download an app to listen to the radio.. Ridiculous. That would keep me away from it. LOL Don't get me started on that carpet. Oh Gawdy
Poor Zack! He complained about a lot things including Howard Johnson. 😂 I think it’s a beautiful vehicle in blue but package wise is not good enough for the price wise. Great funny video Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Fabulous review! We test drove the XC40 before they lowered the price to qualify for the federal rebate and rejected it based on that fact. We purchased the 2022 Lexus UX250h hybrid and absolutely love it!
Zack always looking for an opportunity to disparage Volvo over that AM radio issue in every Volvo related video, is steadfastly hilarious. First the plug-in hybrid option is virtue signaling, and now the Rainbow Room at the Howard Johnson's want their carpet back. Always more entertainment than I deserve. Love you both, never change.
Well it took them a whole year to get Apple Carplay in the Polestar 2, as they told first reviewers, Winter 2021, then Spring 2022 and many hadn't seen it in May of 2022, only last month did it arrive. I wish I could get a Polestar 2, but with the government rebate increase, MSRP went up by a few thousand too. We need all these car companies kneecapped metaphorically to get them to cut costs so the rest of us can afford EVs.
You make some good points, but you didn't explain that the C40 has off road capability, which it is particularly good at as standard, how does that compare to the Tesla, Cadillac and others then ? it's horses for courses, you have take all aspects into consideration when testing a car, not just the ones that are important to you two only, but otherwise a good video
$72,000 for a small SUV 🫣🫣🫣 so around a cool $1200 a month car payment over 60 months, to be left with a battery range estimated to give you 50% of its original distance 🤔🤔🤔
As a Geely shareholder this is very disappointing. I like the manual steering wheel, really how many times do you adjust it ? That falls into the same category as self closing doors- unnecessary.
I read an article the other day about how manufacturers are abandoning AM radio. They claim the signal interferes with other tech. They need to figure out these things.
@@Motormouth... at 8:02 of your video you have a screenshot that shows that it is HD radio capable. If you tune to 96.9 FM HD 3 you should be able to access AM690 Sportsnet radio, which is what Zach wanted to listen to
Are you going to review the gv60? Helping save the environment requires participation from the masses. If the average buyer can’t afford the tech then the only benefits are corporate profits.
The cost of a vehicle like this just makes it so unattractive, even for people who maybe do have some extra budget to work with. In my opinion, companies that make ev cars that are just simply for ‘rich’ people?….they do absolutely nothing for their brand. Vehicles like this just end up on UA-cam videos getting keyed at the local Walmart.🤦🏼♂️ not that I,in any way, endorse such behavior.
the 2023 will be available at different trim levels, so the basic will be the same cost as the XC40, thus able to get rebates (unless you load it up with extras).
What amazes me is the lack of sidewalls on these tires. Oh sure, you have AWD...but you cringe everytime you go on a gravel road, just because you don't quite have the confidence to use it properly. Oh: it's expensive. Very expensive.
Great advice, fully agree. I wanted to buy the Volvo too, and we're perfect customers for them: two ten year olds, dog and cat, upper middle class, eco concerned, like wagons, own a Tesla 3 LR AWD and want to change. I'd kill for a Volvo longroof in electric with a reliable range over 450 km. So I just put a deposit down on the KIA EV6, based to a great degree on your review.
Seems a little slow on that 0-60 run. Yes, it definitely is a looker. PS: I can't wait until you guys review the up and coming E-Macan. I want to buy a Macan within the next year or two. I do however, want to see what it'll look like, before committing.
could not agree more...60k is not something a middle class working stiff can afford to be sure...drop $ by 25k...and maybe ev vehicles become more of a player...great review..enjoy😊
@@midlifemom5829 Well indeed, my best friend did the same and choose a BMW model because this had CarPlay, I do not see the reason why Volvo changed to Android…
Volvo and Cadillac are 100% correct in going 100% electric. They are not planning to sell 10M vehicles per year nor several million in 3rd world countries.
The XC40 Core and Plus get the rebate. Model Y is a joke now. 87k?? LOL. If you want luxury EV SUV I'd get the Audi Q4 whenever it comes. This also qualifies for the rebate. Man these EVs re expensive. I just start smiling when people talking about saving fuel costs when they are talking about a vehicle that's 20-30k more than it's petrol equivalent.
Disappointed to hear it doesn’t hit the mark in enough areas (for the price). I was hopeful this might be a real contender to get me to take the EV plunge (if it was $10k cheaper then I’m in). Spot on about EVs being too high priced. Until EVs’ prices come down some more, offer decent range w/ faster charge times (Genesis, Kia, Hyundai are getting there), while still having some fun appeal, I’ll just have to keep waiting. The lease on my 2019 GTI is coming up; guess I’ll just buy it out as the best option.
Zippy but take it easy Andrea. Volvo have always been super expensive. Are they value for money in the increasingly electrified era? This model does look stylish.
feel sorry for electric car drivers and future owners. They will simply have to learn the hard way .. as I did. These things are a huge hassle, all those lost hours sitting in those charging stations, huge anxiety, plus a outrageous expense in the long run. Good luck trying to sell a used Electric car with wore out battery modules. You'll find out nobody wants to pay the ridiculous price of batteries ... Batteries are very ... very expensive to replace ( thousands and thousands of dollars) ... and make no mistake, you will be replacing them. These batteries are highly toxic to our environment, with a high potential for disaster to our surroundings. DON'T FOOL YOURSELF and CERTAINLY, DON'T LISTEN TO A SALESMAN , ... LITHIUM BATTERIES ARE NOT GREEN CLEAN ENERGY BY ANY MEANS! ... I wish I knew all this before I bought my car . Do your homework before buying !
The thing that bugs me with these vehicles is the rebates. In the United States you can still qualify for $7500 rebate. If you can buy a $60,000 car you do not need a $7500 rebate. It’s just BS. It’s always great to see how our tax dollars are being spent
Think about it: how many additional cars and tax value is created through the higher sales numbers across several new brands and companies? More interesting, how many health care dollars does the upgraded safety, and the lack of fossil fuels save over the lifetime of this car compared to even a three year old car? (Hint, a LOT). It is worth it to the taxpayer except whoops, the US government doesn't pay any health care for regular people, like other countries. So, the Canadian and other G20 countries' subsidy is worth it at least.
My short list was Audi Q4, Volvo XC40, Volvo C40 and Polestar 2. Audi Q4 is a bit slow for an EV. C40 - I don't see a point, cause XC40 has the same characteristics and more room. C40 is lacking room in the back seats - the same as Polestar 2, but Polestar 2 is a better car - faster, more range, less expensive (qualifies for rebate), and better Android Automotive interface. So, I see either XC40 if you need room, or Polestar 2 if you want a better driving experience.
I like your reviews. Actually I study English with Andrea pronunciation. Best english lessons a ever had. The only thing I do not agree with Zach it is his devotion to Porsche models: they are overpriced rebadged VW. Personaly I prefer japanese reliability over german perfection. But in real life what I choose Audy A6 or Lexus my answer is both because the more the better.
Not sure why range is still an 'important' issue anymore or being discussed. All modern EVs can do at least 400km. Very few drives more 400km on one day, and if one charges every night, the range is a moot point. The range only matters on the first leg of a road trip, after that, it won't matter anymore cause it's all about the charging speed and the spread of charging stations, how quickly can one top up the car to 80% and start the next leg to the next charging spot, and those segments are definitely shorter than 400km. Faster charging speed takes precedent to total range for sure.
Nowadays I highly recommend the c40 since the lease prices are very low since no one is buying it. The depreciation is terrible though so just dont buy it - someone i know drove one for a few weeks and gave it back and her car is still on their website six months and a 10% price drop later...

Thanks, Andrea und Zork! I mean, Zack!! 👏🏼☕️
As a Geely shareholder this is very disappointing. I like the manual steering wheel, really how many times do you adjust it ? That falls into the same category as self closing doors- unnecessary.
Can you get the AM stations via HD FM radio? That is the workaround I have used in Tesla cars (also no AM).
I read an article the other day about how manufacturers are abandoning AM radio. They claim the signal interferes with other tech. They need to figure out these things.
Nope
@@Motormouth... at 8:02 of your video you have a screenshot that shows that it is HD radio capable. If you tune to 96.9 FM HD 3 you should be able to access AM690 Sportsnet radio, which is what Zach wanted to listen to
Are you going to review the gv60? Helping save the environment requires participation from the masses. If the average buyer can’t afford the tech then the only benefits are corporate profits.
Yes we hope to get it, just waiting for it to arrive.
I haven't listened to AM radio for at least 30 years... :) Maybe 35
I see a lot of blue!!
Anyways great review
id buy it with 300 mile range- great review
Can you change the settings with Google Assistant?
good review and fair!
Thank you!
When are you reviewing Genesis Gv60??
Zippy! Love it, nice review.
2 . love the shows
Thank you very much!
What amazes me is the lack of sidewalls on these tires. Oh sure, you have AWD...but you cringe everytime you go on a gravel road, just because you don't quite have the confidence to use it properly. Oh: it's expensive. Very expensive.
How is the road noise? I had heard other reviewers state that the 20 inch wheels were a bit noisy.
0-60 in 4.3 seconds......a little slow ?
could not agree more...60k is not something a middle class working stiff can afford to be sure...drop $ by 25k...and maybe ev vehicles become more of a player...great review..enjoy😊
FYI, the basic form of communication (human speech) requires both amplitude and frequency modulation.
We all know, you can trust a manufacturer and a car dealer. .. say anything, do anything, to make a sale ..... especially to a woman.
No CarPlay??? We are in 2022 Volvo! And indeed …no AM radio?! Hello Sweden!!! Come on for this price! We talk about 72000$!!!
Agree! I just removed this Volvo from my list to check out. I will now look at Audi Q4 etron.
@@midlifemom5829 Well indeed, my best friend did the same and choose a BMW model because this had CarPlay, I do not see the reason why Volvo changed to Android…
If Volvo brought back the C70 hard top convertible as an EV, I think I’d pass away
Volvo and Cadillac are 100% correct in going 100% electric. They are not planning to sell 10M vehicles per year nor several million in 3rd world countries.
Howard Johnson blue!!!!
Dang is that a vintage seiko diver or is that a orange Doxa???
Yes, Seiko UFO from the early 70s
The XC40 Core and Plus get the rebate. Model Y is a joke now. 87k?? LOL. If you want luxury EV SUV I'd get the Audi Q4 whenever it comes. This also qualifies for the rebate. Man these EVs re expensive. I just start smiling when people talking about saving fuel costs when they are talking about a vehicle that's 20-30k more than it's petrol equivalent.
AM radio for in the past 😁and everything looks so cheap for a $72K vehicle
Zippy ! 👍
Lolol big mad about AM radio. Are you also mad there is no horse on this new fangled horseless carriage?
It's all digital radio now.
Nope, top two radio stations in this city are AM.
Blazer EV totally copied Volvo’s signature Thor hammer headlights!!!
Who still listens to AM radio lmao, what's next VHS?? Just stream
Many people still listen to the radio and don’t want to pay an app subscription to do so.
Tesla got rid of AM years ago
i feel like maybe they’re targeting this towards an older audience? i don’t know, i can’t find a reason they would produce these… lol
For the price, the interior looks totally lame.
Blind spots in a Volvo? Not hanging their hat on safety and function like they used to.
Won't buy an ev they'll get better in a few years and maybe get cheaper
The opposite it happening...
Curious why didn’t u include the ID.4 as an option?? Epic car and way more comfy than the Ioniq5…..
It's 21st century. No body listen to AM radio
The number one and two radio station in our market are AM talk radio!
@@Motormouth... They should move into 21st century then. PS, there are a lot channels already available on iHeartRadio.
@@dearbulls the reply is that people still listen to AM radio not that it isn't the 21st century.
Range makes it a non-starter

Major zonks!
Love the blue carpet …..got to have it …..not
Nowadays I highly recommend the c40 since the lease prices are very low since no one is buying it. The depreciation is terrible though so just dont buy it - someone i know drove one for a few weeks and gave it back and her car is still on their website six months and a 10% price drop later...
Overpriced and under loaded! Very low range, so not even consider it!
AM radio is dead. Dinosaur.
Motormouth full of EV hate as usual
You lost me at deactivating one-pedal driving. Bye felicia!
The contrasting blue carpet and door panels look terrible. You guys also make a lousy Duo to do a car review. Honesty is the best policy.
Thanks for the kind words.
@@Motormouth... I'm just being honest, I think you're terrific by yourself, but I just think you guys did not do well in this particular video. It's the only one I seen of both of you, so maybe it's just this video. Maybe not.
