Once Mac saw low score on his first dunk. Eventhough that one really creative, on any given days it gonna scores 50. He knows he only need to do "safe bet" dunks. That low score really soured off the whole slam dunk night.
He said he had 3 never seen dunks for the contest but went with his back ups after that 46

This is exactly why allstars don’t want to do the dunk competition. Most guys don’t have a dunk package like Zach Lavine or Aaron Gordon but can still throw it down over anyone in the league. Y’all want Jaylen to do something’s he’s never done before and still get roasted for fucking up. Nobody else is stepping up cuz they bouta look just as basic.

Just a suggestion as an avg NBA fan. The dunk contest should have 4 rounds. 1. Most powerful dunk (measured using a sensor placed on the rim), 2. Most Creative Dunk, 3. Best Recreated Dunk 4. Lottery Pick Dunk (The contestant randomly selects a folded paper from a jar containing 100 options. Each paper bears a list of three different dunks to choose from. The contestant must then select and perform one of these dunks, showcasing their versatility and adaptability). The judging panel should comprise the five individuals who were either winners or finalists of dunk contests in the five years leading up to the current year's dunk contest. However, if any of these individuals are participating in the current contest, they will be exempted from serving as judges. Scoring should start from 50 to 100 points.

They need a list of dunks (made by dunkers) that should no longer be accepted in the contest. That's a quick fix imo. Windmills, Basic Between the legs, no more basic dunks jumping over ppl. Aaron Gordon jumped over a spinning mascot and went under both legs. If you ain't on that level with it, forget about it. If you can do it IN game, we don't wanna see it in a contest.

I don't agree with this take. A dunk contest forcing players to do much harder dunks? The entire dunk contest would be watching a bunch of misses and redo attempts. That's bad TV. I think the damage has been done to the dunk contest. It's irreparable at this point.

The world's top Dunkers haven't been within the NBA for over a decade. They need to put a cash prize and open it up to professional Dunkers. This is the only way to see a real Dunk competition.
This already happens outside of the NBA. At that point, it’s not an NBA dunk contest so it’s even less meaningful.
Been saying that for a while now. And just have nba players sponsor these pro dunkers so it can still at least be linked to the nba.

In my opinion the bigger you are the harder you have to dunk it. That's why I think VC was the best dunker ever. For his size he dunked harder than he should have but most importantly he also had more finesse he should have. He had grace and power.
There should be a formula for the dunk contest like:
Finesse + Power + Difficulty = Score
Just rate those 3 out of 10 then score out of 30 not just random 50points.

When Vince Carter did the dunk contest in 2000 he was also a starter for the All Star Game. They need to get rid of the dunk contest and substitute it for a 1 on 1 tournament.

The way they're shitting on Jaylen Brown's efforts is why stars don't enter dunk contests. Also, judges don't know what an original dunk looks like. Toppin did 2 dunks that were never done in an NBA dunk contest. I saw dudes do them online, but an NBA player never did them in a contest. If they aren't awarding points for originality, then why be original. I remember JR Smith doing dunks that nobody else has tried & he never got a 50. I understand exactly why stars don't do dunk contests. LeBron probably has two dunks that he can do. He's not a contest dunked. He's a game dunker. Most NBA guys aren't practicing dunks they won't do in a game. Dunk contests can be G League & social media dunkers who are sponsored by shoe companies & an NBA player because players aren't practicing contest dunks.

The all star weekend should be looked at as a fun weekend for the fans and their kids, a place where kids get a chance to meet the stars and get an autograph, if you try to take it seriously you'll be disappointed.
