  • This was my first try woodturning a log off center on the lathe. It was mostly a practice project, because I have some ideas that I want to try now that I've turned a log this way. This probably isn't a good project for beginners, so please don't copy anything I do in this video! My tools:
    Starbond Glue: bit.ly/2RFrayA
    Resin: amzn.to/2nUhFPg
    Finishing Oil: amzn.to/2oAFPP6
    Carbide Chisels: amzn.to/2NUiEdq
    Face Shield: amzn.to/2Ac4Cvj
    Center Finder: amzn.to/2ld06Ju
    Jet Lathe: amzn.to/2qG2wD5
    Nova Chuck: amzn.to/32tJvkm
    Respirator: amzn.to/2N7mxfm
    Miter Saw: amzn.to/2ZpjuBW
    Drill: amzn.to/2XtnW0G
    Square: amzn.to/2VaCNzW
    Clamps: amzn.to/2UvPSiZ
*if you shop through these links I may receive a small commission. The price is the same for you, but it helps support me and I really appreciate it!

Hello, I've been watching your videos. I've been a machinist for years. I would like to give you some advice if I may? Keep using your centers and not the jaw clamp. Once you have cleaned your workpiece to a nice round shaft leave Both ends attached. Then simply move your centers off axis. This will provide you a more stable and much safer run to create the same abjective. Then you can clamp and complete your center bore at the end. Make sense?

Well done man. I have seen people use those off center tail stock jig things but never seen it just with a chuck. I was shocked that tennis ball stayed in the cup so long lol

I'm wondering the same as all the comments seem to be praising it to be super brave to do. I don't know much about this hobby but I imagine it's because it's off center and the narrow parts can snap and break off easily and fling wood into the carver.
