What's wrong with the courts system is not judges, per se, but it's definitely the min-max charges they can give for certain crimes. We need to increase the penalties for certain felony and misdemeanor crimes. What worked 75 years ago isn't working anymore. People are more educated, more capable and generally more dangerous. With access to more and more dangerous stuff. Technology constantly changes, as do people and crime. It's time for justice to evolve and change as well. Sometimes judges aren't the problem. It's the bullshit arbitrary lines they have to stay between when handing down a sentence. Otherwise they risk being hit with "cruel and unusual," punishment. As if they aren't criminals!!

Activist DA's and judges are only focused on their agenda but don't really care about the people their actions hurt. If you want less people in jail, then you need to focus on preventing them from committing jailable crimes instead of just letting them go. Once people get away with something then they just do it over and over again, and often escalate it. The family should sue the people who let this guy out and dropped charges for serious crimes if only to force them to go on record and explain themselves.
I am so angry for this family and will say that they are better people than I, as I'm afraid I'd be facing charges myself.

Milwaukee. They handle crime differently. For example, if minors repeatedly steal cars to joyride or steal catalytic converters, the courts will keep releasing them. They are extremely soft on juvenile offenders. Also, cops can't chase cars in the city if the suspect is driving dangerously. So what do criminals do so cops stop following? Drive recklessly, like going into the other lane of traffic or drive on the sidewalk. It's a bizarre situation. In Europe we would never let things get this bad. Some cities have been demoralized and given up when it comes to enforcing laws it seems.

He should’ve been in jail a long time ago. Why won’t the courts hold these young people accountable for their crimes, how many times does it take for the courts to realize there is no hope for that young man lock him up and throw away the key. He had plenty chances to change his life. He chose not to he must pay the consequences. His parents should be ashamed of themselves for not putting a stop to his behavior along time ago.

The requirement for 1st degree murder is intent. While I very much share in your anger and disgust, they don't have enough grounds to prove that this was planned out and intentional. Nonetheless, there was way too much gross negligence when it came to the previous punishments the courts imposed on this delinquent, as well as the issue with the "counselor". Such an unnecessary loss of life, just to try and come across as lenient, and a reckless continuance to try and show that second chances are better than imprisonment.
