As a police officer in south florida dealing with cova19, i love the get away you provide with this awsome program. Thanks guys for getting my mind off of all this even if its just for 20 min..
That's so AWESOME that you guy's are helping them with their project!! I hope to be able to get out there on the water soon once the San Diego ramps open back up!! Thank you guy's so much for making these awesome video's. I can't wait to see more from ya. Keep up the GREAT work. 👍👍
The old guys say that the bluefin show up every 100 years and hang around for about 3 or 4. I think it's been coming up on 5 years. Certainly this year with a lot less fishing pressure and by the same token, less pollution, I would guess that they would stick around. Still, curious to see where they end up as they are tracked.
Before the Japanese were raping Mexican waters for the past 30-50 years, BFT were plentiful 15-20 miles out. I remember watching purse seiners wrap everything in sight. I’ve been fishing SD waters since 1982, Albies were plentiful, but there were no BFT around. Go to the Nados, you’d see the pens hoping for sharks to cut the net/pens……. This fishing isn’t unprecedented, it’s Mexico allowing the fish to make their course, and plentiful bait hanging around. I’m glad they are here… Albies are outside or north….
Not exactly. We are experiencing a cycle with our water currents that hasn’t happened on 100 years. Better fisheries Managment south of the border has played a large role as well. These big fish will leave again, history has shown that.
Most think sportfishermen just want to hunt and kill everything. Opposite is true! Way to contribute to the better understanding of this magnificent tuna species so we can preserve and create a sustainable fishing population. On the other hand, the best thing to happen to the bluefin tuna is the rise in the popularity of wagyu beef.
Why wouldn't you think about the tuna holding pens to the South of us being a perfect breeding program? Those fish are breeders with nothing better to do. The fry swim off and grow up in a perfect zone
It's very difficult to get tunas to breed in captivity and even harder to get the #'s needed to make an impact. Mother nature does the best job of this. WE just need to make sure various countries aren't taking too many fish. This research will help us get that data.
Im all for preservation. Only problem is that the commercial fishermen will get the info, making this more harmful than good. Commercial fishing has always been the problem. Sportfishing will never even put a dent in the fish populations. Just wish scientists could understand that. Or maybe they do and its all about money so they allow the greed of commercial fishing to continue
@@LocalKnowledge agreed, i think that is part of the equation. They have been here in big numbers in the past so its safe to say there is other reasons as well. I just hope current commercial fishing regulations keep working
“Only bluefin I’ve tagged has been with a gaff” - Ali, the savage
Pretty sure that was a true statement!
The passion for this fishery is top notch
Thanks Rodney. You know we love our tuna!

We got some good stuff coming down the pipe. Stay tuned.
It's really cool that you guys contribute to the scientific aspect of the fishing community as well, keeping the fisheries running
Thank you Vic. We feel obligated to protect this awesome species that has brought us all so much joy in recent years.

The last time they were here was around 1910 and they stayed for about 10 years. Let's hope that's the case again.
Nice 1st tag boys!
Thank you 😁
Is a peen 80 vis good for the tuna and a 200ib peen rod . Or I I need to go up
Probably overkill. We use 30's and 50's all the time.
Can we get some more episodes? Just release them all.
Haha. We wish! We will release a new episode every other week on Discovery and online.
Finally I would love to see where they go
Same with us! We will definitely let you guys know if we hear back.
About time you started releasing fish. CPR
Don't get used to it. :) We actually release a ton of fish you don't see on camera. We just keep the eaters.
Hey Ali just curious what rail rod was Rush pulling on that fish with?
SaltyDawg custom rod is our go to.

Hey now, that's an invasion of the Tuna's privacy rights, no?
It was either that of the gaff. He made the choice. :)

No one knows our waters like fishermen. We have to do our part to protect them or no one will.
Wow Barbara Block. I’ve read a bunch of her papers for class.
She was a wealth of knowledge!
Yes way to increase price of bluefin tuna
ok.
👏👏👏👏

Are you interested to go and fish in Galapagos Island let me know
Definitely on our list.
Awesome video, that boat is the tits!
Thanks Jason! Doesn't suck running around in a SeaVee for sure.

Recent commercial regulations are in large part the reason we are seeing so many of these awesome fish in our waters.
