A lot of praise for the boys in Asia and Keith Emerson - quite rightly - but let us not forget we wouldn't have this wonderful piece of music without Aaron Copland.
Not back in the 1970s. He won the Guitar Player magazine poll for best overall guitarist like 4 or 5 years in a row. After that, he was no longer eligible to win again.
was showing it to my grandkids. they liked it. the boy said its long. i said not if your doing something you love to do. then i said to them if you have a job that your not prepared to work at for 6 hrs or more your in the wrong place
Steve Howe is often very "in his own world", not really showing much emotion on stage, but here he is clearly loving it and you can even see him smiling. He rocks it - good to see him driving his guitar nicely and attacking it. Great guitarist and a bit different to most of his contemporaries. Nice! Carl's fills at the end are totally cool. Nailed it.
And Rick Wakeman, he must have been busy with his own gigs when this was scheduled. 😅 Not to say Downes isn’t in the same league as these guys, but there’s a reason why Wakeman could book a concert with his own band, in various places around the world, (including Cuba), and produce live albums, with excellent performances from them. After all, Bowie chose Rick to play piano for the recording of ‘Life on Mars,’ and that’s just one of Wakeman’s earlier credits.
Interesting interpretation Steve is great on guitar, Carl is always brilliant on drums - agree that if Keith played it would have been brilliant As it is, it's a gem anyway and a cool interpretation of a true classic Cool indeed
E.L.P. did this tune outside in the winter....i remember when these guys came out in the 80's... for the life of me i can't remember the name of any song they did... lol
ELP did this tune outside in the winter....i remember when these guys came out in the 80's... for the life of me i can't remember the name of any song they did... lol
always wondered what a good guitarist would have done to the ELP sound..now I know..although this keyboard player isnt a patch on Emo and the bass solo...hmmm////
lordsong7 My opinion is not what's perverted. You can not feel energy at all, or you would know what I'm talking about. But since you don't, there's no point in talking to you about it.
Cory Kent Its all good. I know what you meant. The original ELP version with an orchestra backing has a lot more build up which gives you goosebumps. Its like the best blowjob ever. All the teasing at the beginning has you begging for the release
insanesna1l I have to agree, though I kind of was grossed about the way you explained it. But you're right, when they dropped the music in the beginning, you wanted the rest, not this new much less classy rendition.
+Cory Kent Hey man....it's fucking Carl Palmer. One of the most underrated drummers in Rock and Roll History! It is not ELP, concur; however....Carl FN Palmer!!!!!!!!!!!
This is better than several live versions from ELP I know of. To me, many ELP live versions suffer from Mr. Emerson rushing to quick over the keyboard. He seems forgetting speed has not necessarily something to do with virtuoso music.
I don't talk about the late KE performances at the end of his career, he had serious health issues... but Geoff transcription here is full of mistakes. He don't even know the correct chord sequence, this is crap

+Louise Vuillon This is the original formation (Howe, Wetton, Downes, Palmer) from 1981 to 1984 (first two albums: "Asia" and "Alpha"), that resurged from 2006 to 2013 (three more albums: "Phoenix", "Omega" and "XXX").
I bet that the fanfare intro was recorded not played even though Downes hits the keys It sounds just the same as the original fanfare. The second to last note breaks a little, just like here, except the sample playback is down a half tone. ELP's original video here: ua-cam.com/video/OgpnlLz7WR0/v-deo.html I'd rather take the original version, thank you! Howe walks all over this version.
Powerfactorguy I don't know how exact that is. I know at one point Wakeman, Palmer and Wetton were tossed around as forming a group but I have never heard how serious that was. I do know Howe and Wetton was the original members of Asia. Palmer was pulled in and Howe recommended Geoff Downes after doing the Yes Drama album. Travor Rabin was auditioned as a second singer and guitarist. There is a version of him singing Asia's Only Time Will Tell with Wetton singing backing vocals. It is obvious he doesn't fit the material and they decided to remain a 4 piece.
It is a good version with the great John Wetton on bass (what a nice solo!) but Downes' sounds are f-in Roland shit! Can't the dude get some decent synth and organ sounds?
No one could nail this song down like Asia. Too much talent!
Nothing be like adding Steve Howe's guitar to a great song.
Indeed!
I guess I am kind of off topic but do anyone know of a good site to stream new tv shows online?
Definitely
Steve Howe and John Wetton are awesome Carl Palmer and geff downs kill it the whole band is the best
Howe breathes new life into this classic song . A very welcome alternative version .
I love how Steve Howe looks like your old Calculus or Physics professor & then proceeds to shred like a 20-year old.
A lot of praise for the boys in Asia and Keith Emerson - quite rightly - but let us not forget we wouldn't have this wonderful piece of music without Aaron Copland.
If I had listend just to Carl Palmer's drumming, this piece would have been worth my money. What a fantastic drummer!
Steve Howe - Guitar legend.
I think Steve Howe has always been underrated.
Not back in the 1970s. He won the Guitar Player magazine poll for best overall guitarist like 4 or 5 years in a row. After that, he was no longer eligible to win again.
Not really! 🎉
Steve Howe's phrasing between 6:28 and 6:33 is pure master geniality.
I love Steve Howe guitar style. Still got a lot to learn musically!
was showing it to my grandkids. they liked it. the boy said its long. i said not if your doing something you love to do. then i said to them if you have a job that your not prepared to work at for 6 hrs or more your in the wrong place
Man... that's the called wisdom of life... 😃
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Love John Wetton bass tone and his short but cool bass solo. Very good buildup to the next part when Steve and Geoff solo.
Nailed it.
Ha. Because he IS the Guitar in these moments. I fell out of my chair when I hear the emotion from In My Veins.
Through My Veins rather
Really amazing rendition!!!
Excelente tema...! Un clásico de todos los tiempos....! De la gran banda Emerson,Lake and Palmer
One of the greatest songs ... all time Favourite!!!!!
I attended the gig in México city. A Dream Came true for me!!!!
when steve howe is in there's something more even in wonderfull music.
Absolutely 💯 brilliant. Dare I say better than the original?
I agree❤
yes -- it is the Steve Howe factor!
Without doubt a worthy second
Great Version, great megaband!
Simply awesome!! :)
Saw elp do this fantastic piece twice
Saw them in concert this past weekend and they did this. Excellent!
Amazing
Mestres eternos!
absolutely astounding
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW awesome !

Great...great...nice jamm too....
I like this, it´s very nice a new angle of the tune..
When you hear Downes on the keyboards you realize just how brilliant Keith Emerson was.
And Rick Wakeman, he must have been busy with his own gigs when this was scheduled. 😅

Downs not even in the same. League as Wakeman or Emerson. My God I played better keyboards when I was 16
😂😂😂😂😂
@@gregoryschleitwiler9601 No you didn't. You couldn't stand up there with these guys and do shit.
@johnsoneightyeight5018 Better then Downs, that's for sure. Downs is very very bad.
utterly fekin amazing
SUPERB!
Fantastic Megaband!!!
Glad to see.
ABSOLUTE super-version!!!!!!
Interesting interpretation
Steve is great on guitar, Carl is always brilliant on drums - agree that if Keith played it would have been brilliant
As it is, it's a gem anyway and a cool interpretation of a true classic
Cool indeed
❤❤❤❤❤beautfull
wowww !!!!
RIP Keith Emerson.
Micsoda zene! Te jó Ég!
Buenos músicos..
Steve Howe is a great guitarist and one of the few who could get this tune right....nails it
mamma miaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Asia - Steve Howe * Carl Palmer -Awesome job
Now that Alan White isin heavens 😅band Carl Palmer is tops@!
A true Showman...gutted that you've left Planet Earth...See you in the next Life. R :-}

ELP
STEVE HOWE IS BIG GUITARIST
killer

E.L.P. did this tune outside in the winter....i remember when these guys came out in the 80's... for the life of me i can't remember the name of any song they did... lol
😏 agree with you!
John Wetton looking so much like Fred Flintstone!
Some parts are difficult to play, and jams like this are needed to check if a band works, but musically, it's on the level of an etude = nothing much.
This was AWESOME, but holy shit: Carl Palmer!
ELP did this tune outside in the winter....i remember when these guys came out in the 80's... for the life of me i can't remember the name of any song they did... lol
+scarakus Gone out of my mind as well lol
"Heat of te moment"
Geoff Downes plays the intro solo in PLAYBACK! The following fanfare with the band is in another tune! But the arrangement is excellent!
TheAngel138 yeah you can tell it's not live, it's the beginning to the studio track of fanfare by elp
Yes, I agree.
Of course!
Would love to hear Todd Sucherman play drums to this piece.
Styx also Covered this One.
Now I now that Keith Emerson was a God.
Why do some youtube videos play a half step down? ELP version is in C. Geoff is playing in C, but if you play along you'll find it's in B.
always wondered what a good guitarist would have done to the ELP sound..now I know..although this keyboard player isnt a patch on Emo and the bass solo...hmmm////
I was exactly thinking the same... Steve Howe give us on this concert a short glimpse about how ELP would sound with a guitar on their magic sound...
Greg did some electric guitar as well with ELP. First tune on first album and Karn Evil 9 I think.
When putting the band together, Keith wanted to have Jimi endrix in the band but that never happened.
it sounds like a garage jam
What a distorted, impure rendition of a beautiful piece of classical music. Perversion at its best.
Cory Kent Well you have the right to your perveted opinion.

this is a song writen by Aaron Copland, not ELP ;-)
GREATEST Sound for You - DJ Sammy(HeWe). Saturday-12.3.16 -
This is better than several live versions from ELP I know of.
To me, many ELP live versions suffer from Mr. Emerson rushing to quick over the keyboard. He seems forgetting speed has not necessarily something to do with virtuoso music.
Right on the spot! Emerson plays this way to schizophrenically...Geoff interpretation is really cool!

mmmm no one played like this keith emerson matey peeps ...have another good listen...goeff downes is good but hes NOT the maestro
In other words, how can you smash totally your audience away.
Was this the original line up of Asia? Seems like the group was a revolving door. Something special about this particular line up though.
Yes, this was the original line up. I saw them on their first tour in 1982.
Jeez, where did the time go... over 38 years ago !

+Bartłomiej Dębowski friggin' sweet as all hell!!
Let’s see a new band top the masters of yesteryear. Modern bands suck so hard.
Angular runs from Steve Howe never plays it safe

Sorry boys, you have left this to Keith Emerson
No offense to Geoff, but they should've let Keith sit in on this song.
+CorvetteCoonass he can't now
I've said it before and I'll say it again Geoff Downes is no Keith Emerson or Rick Wakeman, I wish he would quit trying.
agreed. Downs sucks. I can play better then him. Sure he's a nice guy though
I nevercritize anyone unless I can do it better, well??
This was painful
Pretty cool but not ELP cool
I don't get it,,,Asia was created by Rick Wakeman...?????
Wakeman was part of a project that contributed to the creation of Asia, but he was never a member.
Ok, ,thanks
Powerfactorguy I don't know how exact that is. I know at one point Wakeman, Palmer and Wetton were tossed around as forming a group but I have never heard how serious that was. Steve Nelson I know it was BRUFORD, Wakeman, and Wetton who got together--Beelzebub from Bruford's debut was one result.
John Wetton seems tired and uninterested in this gig.
He seems like that alot.

Sorry, doesn't work for me. They are all superb musicians, however this sounds like a bad tribute act.
It is a good version with the great John Wetton on bass (what a nice solo!) but Downes' sounds are f-in Roland shit! Can't the dude get some decent synth and organ sounds?
Nope.
absolute butchery of a Prog classic. Shame on those musicians who really should know better.
+philip newton To be fair, ELP were self-indulgent crap anyway.
