Interesting. Only one former member of KC playing this track. Nice to see the cross-breeding of YES, KC, ASIA, ELP and every other concoction from the golden years of Prog Rock.
Yep, strange choice, as it was Greg Lake who sang this with King Crimson, but perhaps John Wetton would have come across it later, live. Whatever, a good version of an old classic 👍
There is no real bad version of this classic but this is a great "prog update"..John Wetton pristine vocals as ever.....Palmer superb on drums as usual.... proper music....
i agree.. all renditions/covers of this song are simply masterful. we should expect no less from one of the songs that truly kicked off the prog rock genre
To me they nailed this song. The backing vocals are spot on. Carl Palmer's drumming is stellar. Michael Giles who played on the original recording was so unique with his fills and playing . Most drummers are way off but Car is so perfect. And Steve Howe doing Robert Fripp is superb!!!! Greg Lake's voice is hard to top but this was pretty good. Also the melletron has such a unique sound so that is hard to do but this was pretty good. Also no flute ..but hey .....superb rendition anyways!!!!
Arrrbol Greg Lake was also the lead singer on the original release as well. Interesting that within months of the release of this Album, Carl Palmer and Greg lake would become part of ELP.
Great version:) One thing that always bothers me with live versions is that the lead voice on the chorus ‘King ‘ part is always too loud in the mix which takes away the high point which makes it sound a bit dirge like.
Whetton was obviously in KC, but after this song was written, and Palmer was in a different band with the guy who wrote the lyrics to this song and sang and played bass on the original recording of it. Cool twist.
The guy who wrote the lyrics for this and other songs on this album was not Greg Lake who sang and play bass. It was Peter Sinfield. Sinfield wrote all lyrics for King Crimson from the start up to Islands. 😉
Michael Giles was the drummer at the time In The Court of the Crimson King was recorded. Bill Bruford is still a great drummer though, as is Carl Palmer
I think the ending of this song on the album with the spacey 'fade away' was more in keeping with the rest of the record whereas the song on its own does not require it ?
not a complaint, but Asia should have played something from Red, Larks, or Starless which are albums that Wetton appeared on, granted he did perform this song live during his time with KC.
It's listening to things like this that we realize that Asia was a waste of talent, that they made loads of money making fifth-rate songs to play on the radio.
I think it works a lot if you consider it Pop-Prog with AOR leanings. It’s not ‘Red’ or ‘Close to the Edge’ levels of Prog, but it’s not exactly pure AOR like Boston or Journey either.
Rediscovering this song... I wonder, who in the band is MOST embarrassed to play this as all of their entire existences were based on this blueprint. I think Howe.
If there exists a drummer that can play this song as well Bill Bruford it certainly must be Carl Palmer. That is if I'm correct in surmising that this is Carl Palmer, what with all the personnel changes. Who ever the hell it is certainly did justice to the songs essense and to Brufords original drum work on it.
Funny the Asia vocal lines version was identical to the original version, while the version of Greg Lake Band was really different. Lake, who was the original singer of that song, in his solo career did a much higher pitch on "..King aaah aah aaah..." that it was a bit awkward to listen to to be honest. Maybe Lake didn't get the rights to sing it like the original for some reasons, but Wetton acquired the rights.
I was shocked by such a significantly sub-standard lead vocal performance. It's really not such a demanding vocal piece - I'm amazed that he didn't quite have the chops for it. * Severe pitching problems right from the start. * Evidently unable to reliably hold, control or sustain a note of any reasonable length. * In a live performance, your audience deserve to hear a masterful presentation of what you can do - not what you can almost do / used to be able to do / wish you could do. Always remain within your 'zone-of-mastery' in live performances - stretching the boundaries and discovering your limitations is great... BUT ONLY IN REHEARSALS!!! Very sad, very disappointing, completely unnecessary.
What a nicely structured, yet completely unnecessary drivel 🤗 This level of delusion of grandeur is off the charts, congrats.. And adorning it with asterix´s .. wow .. arent you obsessed a bit ? Looks kinda ghey, y´know ? 😇
John Wetton's vocals and bass on the 3 records he did with KC are god level. The talent that circulates in and out of KC to this day is legendary.
Originally sung by Greg Lake on the 1st album of the King Crimson, have already left us both, RIP Greg Lake and John Wetton
I used to joke that they were actually the same person. Lost Squire, Wetton and Lake in short order.
And Boz Burrel 😢😢😢
The voice of an angel 😇💖 Thank u John Wetton 💖RIP 🙏
Unforgetable John Wetton!
Interesting. Only one former member of KC playing this track. Nice to see the cross-breeding of YES, KC, ASIA, ELP and every other concoction from the golden years of Prog Rock.
To play one of the anthems of prog rock, not less
I would expect no less.
Don't forget Buggles.
Yep, strange choice, as it was Greg Lake who sang this with King Crimson, but perhaps John Wetton would have come across it later, live. Whatever, a good version of an old classic 👍
Interestingly John Wetton and Greg Lake were both vocalist at Asia and King Crimson, and they sang the other song vice versa.
I love also the guitar arrangement of Steve Howe...
First time Howe played this song live.
So glad they used Mellotron samples, wouldn't of sounded right otherwise imo
John sang this in Steve Hackett's band with Julian Colbeck and Chester Thompson. Fantastic. Asia seems to be enjoying themselves here, which is great.
Saw Asia 2008 Rochester ny with Geoffrey downs Steve Howe Carl planer and John wetting awesome show one of them has passed away rip❤
great song...... great musicians
what a gem of a cover
Great version with
this group of rockers.
A masterpiece for sure...

I think the synth/mellotron they used for this show really adds a more medieval tone in my opinion
If you have never heard The Claypool Lennon Delirium live version check it out.
Solid lineup of all-stars.
.......we miss you John!
Prog rock forever!
Palmer is great as always...Love the 'style'.
seeing this tour and this song was incredible

If there was ever an anthem for progressive rock, this would have to be it surely ?
Without dubt ..
Such as Epitaph.
Maybe. With Close to the Edge as the overture.
Might add "Watcher..." The opening chords of Tony Bank's mellotron is prog personified.
Don't forget Epitaph
Rip John, Rip Greg
Gotta love what surprise pops up on my feed
the sweetiest version of the song
Úristen! 46 éves zene...és ZENE lesz 46 év múlva is...
Until Rain with guests - Court Of The Krimson King (King Crimson Live Cover)
With all the great songs Wetton sang with KC, he should have sang one of those -like Exiles.
¡Woah!
A jó zene időtlen !
epic! (:

Sinfieleld also wrote the lyrics for Rain or Shine by Five Star.
I like this version better than the original
RIP John Wetton
Michael Giles was the drummer at the time In The Court of the Crimson King was recorded. Bill Bruford is still a great drummer though, as is Carl Palmer
Hey, what happened to the end? That was one of the best parts.
I think the ending of this song on the album with the spacey 'fade away' was more in keeping with the rest of the record whereas the song on its own does not require it ?
ooh yeah they are kicking ballz
It's not finished!
Le fantôme de greg lake parti aussi
not a complaint, but Asia should have played something from Red, Larks, or Starless which are albums that Wetton appeared on, granted he did perform this song live during his time with KC.
daddysensei Silver they did play starless one time in Japan I think
That's how it began... araki senpai
😎👍💗🇬🇧🥁🔥🎼💣🔊))GO CARL GO!!!
😎👍💗🇨🇭🔥🎼🔊)) PAISTE!!!
🏰ghosts of crimson spectred towers🏰
When I saw Asia in 2010 they played Go but not Wildest Dreams
John wetton made this song his own
Professionals
It's over Bucciarati

Well said
Personnel?
Geoff Downes, Steve Howe, John Wetton, Carl Palmer
Who is playing The keyboard?
The great Geoffrey Downes.
Geoffrey Downes . Of course.
Kekka dake da !

George Penwell Michael Giles was the original drummer

So why isn't Carl Palmer in the Rock n Roll Hall of fame? For that matter, why isn't John Wetton? ELP? Why?
Because they are not crappy enough.
Why ASIA Is not?
@@fenderstratocastertelecast8479 Sadly follow the $$$. Talent and artistry are nothing.
...which leads me to the question, did the '72-'74 'Crimson ever perform this? Ik they did 21st Century Schizoid Man and Cat Food.
I don’t think so, which is a shame.
Lackluster performance even by Carl Palmer except right at the end. Vocals were insipid.
