it's a very emotional song. he was crying, this was a tribute to his dad. his dad appears in the video. the dad had stage 4 kidney cancer and James didn't think his dad would live much longer. Luckily a distant cousin got tested after this video and was a match. and gave the dad a kidney. I have this song on my playlist and play it over and over. I lost my dad when I was younger and my mom on July 9th. It's a beautiful tribute
I just discovered this video too- it is amazing, so touching and I cry every time I see it !! " James Blunt wrote this song for his father, Charles Blount, a former cavalry officer in the 13th/18th Royal Hussars, helicopter pilot and colonel in the Army Air Corps. His dad has stage four chronic kidney disease, and this minor-key piano ballad is a tear-stained tribute to his sick father." From what I have seen his dad is doing okay now- and yes that is his dad in the video- "June 2020- James Blunt has revealed his father Charles Blount is doing well after receiving an organ donation following his fight with stage-four kidney disease."
Anyone not crying at this is lacking something. That's all. I didn't get chance to say goodbye to my father, and this tears me apart, every time. James and his father were both officers in the British army. His father was a colonel and helicopter pilot, and James was a captain and tank commander. He had his guitar strapped to the outside of the tank as there was no room inside for it. He did a song called No Bravery, about his time in Kosovo.
I don't know why I keep listening to this. I'm crying like a baby as I always do 😭! It's definitely a 2 boxes of Kleenex song. This was one of my Brothers favorite Artists ( my Dear Brother passed of at age 48 after beating 25 years of addiction)At least he was clean and sober 3 years! He absolutely Loved James Blunt, that's Why I Love this. Can't believe, but I did Make it through. Love your channel 💜
James Blunt's father Charles, himself a kidney donor, was diagnosed with stage four chronic kidney disease Blunt wrote "Monsters" to "express his feelings about his father and his illness, almost as if it were a touching goodbye to his father" His father got a new kidney after media coverage etc .. 😀
James is from a military family. His father is head of household. Regimented hierarchy. What he's saying is I love you, there is no ranks, we're just 2 men who love each other and I want you to understand that I love you dad.
His pain is very real. That is his father in the video and at the time this was recorded he was dying. A distant relative turned out to be a match and was able to donate his/her kidney. I do not know if this video had anything to do with the relative coming forward to be tested but thankfully he/she did and now his father is doing well.
I see several people have already written his dad had end stage kidney disease. It was very difficult to find a donor match and James wrote this song for him (that is his dad in the video) thinking his time was running out. The video had widespread circulation and a match was ultimately found and his dad has survived. The video was done on the first take and the emotion is absolutely real. James’ producers wanted to fix a few spots were his voice cracks a little and he said no, that he wanted to keep it real. A few other great songs by James are “You’re Beautiful”, “Goodbye My Lover”, and the lesser known but brilliant “No Bravery”, written about the war in Kosovo after his tour of duty there.
Hi Adogg just finished watching the video. I have never heard of him or the song but I can’t stop crying. It brings back memories of when I lost my dad in 2001. The pain never goes away. 😰 I miss him every day.
I think the fact they were both army officers, him a Capt and his dad was a Colonel, that English stiff upper lip, he said they weren't very tactile or spoke about deep things. This was his way of saying what he felt. When his dad looks at him and touches his arm makes me cry every time 😢
Shame everyone stops the video before his dad does that soft, reassuring touch. It's so lovely. Try "No Bravery", a song about James, his guitar and an unstoppable war. Please.
Never heard this before, not often a song makes me cry. It's been years since I lost my dad...he was my best friend in life. 🎶💯❤️😢 My dad passed on his dad's birthday.
I've never heard this song before. It's beautiful. When he sang he'll be the one to chase the Monsters away, I lost it. My dad used to read to me as a kid when I had a bad dream to "chase the Monsters away " Thank you for posting this incredible video. Thank you.❤
From the perspective of someone that lost a parent at a very young age, it doesn’t matter how old you are, what you’re relationship with them is like. It’s a loss that leaves an unfillable void. This song hits out on the head perfectly
"Two grown men saying goodbye" = We'll keep a stiff upper lip (be 'men' and keep emotions down) as we say goodbye. Father was dying of stage for kidney disease when written and performed, 1 take, no pitch adjustments. A cousin came forward, with the same name, who tested the same as James' father and provided a kidney to save his father. I can't stop listening to this song and watching reactions, lost my father in 2018, it just keeps hitting home. Thanks for your reaction video!
I wish my daddy had not died alone. He was in a VA hospital, and I was going to see him in a few hours, but they called and said he had "expired". I had never heard that word used. I was just 35 when he passed away. I miss him so much 💔
I watched till the end Adogg. I heard James Blunts 1st hit song "James Blunt - You're Beautiful" another amazing song! But I just recently came across this song of his. I have cried everytime I listen to it! I lost my mom to the Big "C"
First time I heard this song also. And i cried. Made me remember watching my Mom fighting Cancer. Love how you feel every song you hear...Love watching your reactions. Thank you for just being you
My father died in 1982 at 55 years old. SIX MONTHS after he retired. To Florida. He died suddenly. I was home when my Aunt Fran and Godmother called me. I then went over my brothers to tell him. My father was strong. He was all about work. We never really talked. I was a long hair guitar playing guy with a lot of girlfriends. I worked with him and my brother but we just never really talked. Then a few days before he passed we sat in his back yaed in Cranford NJ and talked about everything.. EVERYTHING... I finally felt close to my dad! I called him numerous times in Florida but never any answer. I found out when my brother and I went down there that I was given a wrong number. Never got a chance to talk again.... That now forty years has haunted me. THIS SONG.. just brings it back so hard! The Living Years used to do it. Cat STevens Father and Son...The same. But my god is this song tearing me up... I loved Blunt well before I heard this. Being Sick and disabled myself. This song really made me feel again! Thank you!
James Blunt and his father were both Military Men, James A former reconnaissance officer in the Life Guards regiment of the British Army, he served under NATO during the 1999 Kosovo War. Left in 2002 to pursue is music. Yes thats his father who at the time had months to live from stage 4 kidney failure due to his rare blood group no donor could be found, he wrote this as a goodbye to his father, he did this in one take no auto tune he wanted to be real emotions. Due to the publicity of the song a distant cousin came forward with the same rare blood group and gave him a kidney in Jan 2020, he survived but as not seen his son james due to covid, James does not want to risk it
I think everyone may hear or interpret this song differently, due to whatever their relationship is/was with their father or anybody they lost close to them.. that line "I'm not your son, your not my father, we're just two grown men saying goodbye". For me personally i hear it as I'm not just your son, and your not just my father, we're both grown men, best friends, that have shared lifetime of ups and downs. And for him too know he will be their for him now that he needs him.. but what speaks volumes even more is even though how sick is da was during this video and james being distraught trying to tell him his final words (if he hadn't of found match) was when his father touched his arm, to try comfort james, saying it's ok, it's all ok..
his father has a rare blood type and couldnt finbd a donor with the right Kidney (Kidney Cancer) so he wrote this to say goodbye as his times near. thats his real dad. Lost my mom to cancer November 3rd and this hits hard!, sorry for your loss too.
This really touched me, You can hear the pain and the love in his voice. I knewe it was all right when his father appeared in the video, but me, the "Ice Queen" was on the brink of breaking down. I think your reaction was perfect.
No his father was terminal in this video, he only had one kidney as he'd donated the other, and the kidney was failing, his only hope was a donor kidney and all his family weren't a match. After this video was released a far flung relative was tested and he was a match, the transplant went ahead I've read in the comments his father isn't doing so well now ..
I love James Blunt. A little background. A former reconnaissance officer in the Life Guards regiment of the British Army, he served under NATO during the 1999 Kosovo War. Check out his other stuff too, especially , "Your Beautiful" and "Goodbye My Lover" And, yes, that's his dad, and yes, I made it to the end, with tears.
Oh my….😞🥲😭😭💔💔🙏🏼 I’ve never heard of James Blunt. I don’t know if it’s cause I lost my Dad a couple of years ago, but this is touching my heart deeply. Always to the end Adogg!! Thanks man…❤️🙏🏼
The statement "Im not your son, your not my Father", was what they would say to each other before a deployment...both of them were in thev service, James was a Captain and his Father was a Colonel..
At the time of singing it to his dad, he had been diagnosed with end stage kidney failure, he had been given around a month left to live. He had already donated one kidney and no one was a match. He did this song in one take, refused to autotune the grief out and all monies went to Veterans. It was the first time he sang it to his dad and it was done in one take. The music track was separate to the singing so what you have here is pure, raw emotion. Within 3 weeks of the video being released, a distant relative with same name as his dad came forward and was a match. They love each other very much.
He means, we're just people. And in a very British way, James wrote, to paraphrase: Before you were my father, you were just a man. I am just a man. We know we forgive and forget, and love each other. They're both strong men who were in the military for a long time. It's sort of a British thing, but that was his way of saying "good-bye" and I think the whole song is incredible and brave!
The line "I'm not your son you're not my father we're just 2 grown men saying goodbye" was what he dad said to him obviously in reverse, when he said goodbye to James when James went to the Kosovo war where he served as a tank commander. All proceeds to the song went to the veterans charity Help for Heros.
James and his father were both in the army, James as a Captain and his dad a colonel. Apparently when James had to deploy, he would say “I’m not your son, you’re not my father, we’re just two grown men saying goodbye”. This is James’ dad in the clip.
There was a time when I was the son needing to know I was safe from the monsters. You were the Daddy who chased the monsters away. That time is gone. We're just two grown men saying goodbye. At the time he was singing this, he fully believed his Daddy was very near death. How people can sing with all those feelings inside them is totally beyond me.
It was his dad, and happily he received a kidney transplant and is doing ok now. According to James Blunt, when they were filming the video literally everyone on set was sobbing except his dad, who was basically “umm, guys. I’m still here!”
James, the same as his father before him, was an officer in the British military and was I believe, a tank commander out in the Kosovo conflict. I don't know how he managed to make this video, it must have been the hardest thing he'd ever done, but he did it without using 'Auto-Tune' as his recording company had insisted on. He wanted this video to be 100% real, and I believe this was the first time he'd sang this song to his father after his diagnosis. It's an amazing achievement on his part.
I can see that british music has difficulties reaching the US. I'm from a north african country and I've heard James Blunt singing "You're beautiful" and "Goodbye my lover" and later "1973" and I loved them all. A very beautiful "manly" voice, not sissy and not sassy. It somehow astounds me that Americans know very little about British bands and singers, and vice-versa.
IT is not difficult. I think lazy radio stations playing rubbish or people sticking to certain stations that don't play mixed music. So many American reactors that have not even heard of American singers/bands. It's absolutely incredible and some of the reactors get offended when we comment that we can't believe they have not heard those songs. Even in the village, I heard songs back in Nigeria so that really are suffering in USA, lol!
Thanks for saying the name of the song Your beautiful I couldn't remember the song but I remember that video when it was played on MTV and VH1 I loved that song and his voice.
Before James became a recording artist, he was a Lieutenant and tank commander in the British Army, his father was a cavary officer and then helicopter pilot and Colonel of the Army Air corps. ❤ This was James's way of saying goodbye to his Dad, Yes that is his Dad in the video, and he needed a kidney transplant, luckily after this song was released (I think) a donor who matched was found, and all being well, Mr Blunt Sr continues to recover well ❤
He never showed his father how he felt towards him in any conversation, he was on his death bed and decided to write this for him and that's his father in the video. Thankfully he got a donor last minute he's alive and well now.
One cardinal rule of telling a story effectively, is that your tale, should have already become a part of you. The easiest way to convey or teach something, is to do so with something that is already apart of you. This song does it to me. My old man passed last August in my arms. I was the last person he saw in this world. I know this pain. Thank you for this genuine reaction. Just subscribed.
He’s letting him go.. it’s ok for him to go.. dad no longer us to be brave and hang on… saying a lovely goodbye. No anger, forgive each other and telling him it’s ok to die.
NEW SUB. ANOTHER VIEWER MENTIONED JAMES BRITISH ARMY DAYS BUT ALSO HE STOOD GUARD OVER THE QUEEN MOTHER WHEN SHE WAS ON PUBLIC VIEW WHEN SHE DIED. THIS SONG WAS TOUGH FOR JAMES TO GET THROUGH SINCE HE AND HIS FATHER WERE MILITARY AND SUPPOSED TO BE STRONG. AFTER JAMES DID THE VIDEO A KIDNEY DONOR WASFOUND. THE DONOR WAS CHARLES' OWN DISTANT COUSIN WITH THE SAME NAME [CHARLES BLOUNT. ENGLISH SPELLING FOR BLUNT]
Him saying I’m not you son your not my father is just a way to ease the passing of his dad. If their just two grown men saying goodbye it’s easier than leaving you child.
Adogg I wasn't expecting u too react to it and if so not so quickly. Thank you 😊 for listening to a great daddy son song saying goodbye. As said earlier James has a great song called YOUR BEAUTIFUL. ITS AN UPBEAT SON.
@@darealadogg Come on ,,whats the sense of subscribing ,,if you ignore my requests,,,1 last time PLEASE react to Brian Justin Crum singing CREEP from Americas got talent ,, you wont be disappointed

Hi Adogg. I watched your lovely video all the way to the end. I've never heard this song before but have heard of James Blunt so thanks for sharing it. I cried. Never say Goodbye to the ones you love but as strangers you can. I guess that is the motto for this song.
My dad lived with us the last 5 years of his life. Precious time. Passed 2 years ago. Was in great pain at the end and in hospice for a week or so. I KNOW exactly what he is talking about. He is talking about fear his dad may be experiencing and how he will help him get through the end.. By the way dad had a GREAT relationship with all 5 of us kids. He was the greatest father we could have wanted...
He and and his father were soldiers, the same as me and my father. He's Brit and I'm Austrian, no difference... At the end you have to fight "your own monsters" some day on your own!!! Beautiful song!!!!!
They said the only one not in tears at the end of the video was Charles, James' father. He asked, why is everyone crying? I'm still here! Nearly everyone tears up on this one. By the way Charles himself had been a kidney donor. His distant cousin was also named Charles Blount.
This video was made as they thought his dad was going die, the video has his real dad in it. Everyone including the crew were sobbing except his dad. A month after this was released they found a donor and he survived. They didn't know it at the time of this video though making it even more powerful
The story I heard on this is that that's what his father said to him when he was going on a tour in the military... I'm not your father, you're not my son, we're just 2 grown men saying goodbye
Hi, bro his father needs a transplant. His whole family have served the British military for generations. I don't know if you have ever heard James speak? Very well spoken upper class. His father served in a few different regs. A helicopter pilot and Calvary just to name 2. I am very proud of our military. They go were asked and given 110%. We maybe not biggest but I think we are the best. A British soldier is the best in the recruitment moto. I thank him and his family for their service. We Russia building up troops on the Ukrainian border. And broadly the closest we have been since to war since the cold war. The younger generation is going to need a wake-up call. If we are to stand tall.
“I’m not your son your not my father we’re just two grown men (grown friends) saying good bye, refers to a father and son as adults not being able to say I love you as easily as when the son was just a child.
It hits harder if u lost ur dad.. he made the song when he thought his dad was going to die, as it didn´t hit him that his dad could die until then I lost my dad 14 years ago and it hit me real hard, it is true that u don´t really think there is a possibility for ur closest ones to go before they do.. I failed to do CPR on my dad and I blamed myself for it for so many years even when the doctors hd said I was too late and couldn´t have saved him and with everyone close to me telling me I was the hero in the situation.. I just felt like I let my mother, brother and sisters down and on top of that I didn´t have my dad there to just tell me it is ok it´s a touching song
Background. James Blunt's father Charles, himself a kidney donor, was diagnosed with stage four chronic kidney disease. Blunt wrote "Monsters" to "express his feelings about his father and his illness, almost as if it's a touching farewell to his father".

Carry You Home - it's a very good one. It's from an album he did when he first came home from the conflict in Kosovo. That one makes me bawl too.
He refused to have any vocal effects, he wanted it taken straight to capture the emotion. What an artist!
There comes a time when you have to be equal, the roles even reverse when a parent is old or sick.

My father is my Hero. He passed from cancer in 2016. This video breaks me down to tears every time. RIP Dad. 🙏
I've heard him before, but this puts a new spin on how I think of him. In a good way. Love your channel.
Man. You were right there with him, to the end. Respect.
I made it to the end but I cried the whole time I’m glad his dad is doing great❤️❤️🙏
Jimmy was right. Brilliant. Thank you both!
No matter how much I hear the song I still cry every time
The line "I'm not your son you're not my father we're just 2 grown men saying goodbye" was what he dad said to him obviously in reverse, when he said goodbye to James when James went to the Kosovo war where he served as a tank commander. All proceeds to the song went to the veterans charity Help for Heros.
He also has a song Beautiful and Goodbye My Lover. They are also great!
I had to pause this video, I broke down half way through but I finally finished watching it. WOW what a song!!
James Blunt one of the most underrated singers I've ever heard
Oh god I was basically weeping lol. Not sure how anyone can get through this without crying!
Some other beautiful James Blunt songs - 'You're Beautiful' - 'Goodbye my lover' - 'No Bravery'
Tom Walker. ‘I’l Leave a Light On’
Before James became a recording artist, he was a Lieutenant and tank commander in the British Army, his father was a cavary officer and then helicopter pilot and Colonel of the Army Air corps.
That was beautiful, ❤🧡💖 first cry of the day. Would love to see more videos of him, first time for me. HE'S Amazing 👏 😍 ❤
You're beautiful by james blunt 🖤
Him saying I’m not you son your not my father is just a way to ease the passing of his dad. If their just two grown men saying goodbye it’s easier than leaving you child.
"they're"
Adogg I wasn't expecting u too react to it and if so not so quickly. Thank you 😊 for listening to a great daddy son song saying goodbye. As said earlier James has a great song called YOUR BEAUTIFUL. ITS AN UPBEAT SON.
NP JIMMY I ALWAYS SEE YOU IN THE COMMENT SECTION SAYING SOMETHING POSITIVE AND LIKING THE VIDEOS. THANKS JIMMY!!!
@@darealadogg just keep up the great job of reacting. That's how u can thank me.

One day adogg maybe u can do some Dr Hook reactions starting with Sylvia's mother. Of course u may already have Ive just been on ur channel about 3 months.
I think the song works too for mothers and daughters. Look how many lives that song has touched. It's just too beautiful.
Crying 😢
Hi Da Real Adogg! If this song doesn't move someone, it's probably 'cos there's no heart...
He and and his father were soldiers, the same as me and my father. He's Brit and I'm Austrian, no difference... At the end you have to fight "your own monsters" some day on your own!!! Beautiful song!!!!!
Such a touching 😢 song
Yes it’s his real dad. He was dying from kidney cancer at this point. But a distant cousin was a match and he is now well
So sorry about your Dad. I miss mine too😢
They said the only one not in tears at the end of the video was Charles, James' father. He asked, why is everyone crying? I'm still here! Nearly everyone tears up on this one. By the way Charles himself had been a kidney donor. His distant cousin was also named Charles Blount.
New to the channel man thank you for reacting to this. Lost my dad to cancer in 2020 and this song just means so much. Keep up the good work bro
Outstanding reaction to this fabulous song m
His father doing great
Hey partner, I’m 51 and let my father go. One damn good man. Then I heard this song. I balled like a baby.
True love .. right here in this song! ❤️❤️ bless you for reacting to this! 👍🏻 phew...so many tears! 😱

Sorry for your losses…you’ve been through a lot!!❤️💔💔🙏🏼
My father passed away from cancer, which ofcourse was horrific. I still remember the happy times with him. James Blunt's dad was on the video too. xx
I cry every time I hear it😢
Get ready to cry
It hits harder if u lost ur dad.. he made the song when he thought his dad was going to die, as it didn´t hit him that his dad could die until then
I lost my dad 14 years ago and it hit me real hard, it is true that u don´t really think there is a possibility for ur closest ones to go before they do.. I failed to do CPR on my dad and I blamed myself for it for so many years even when the doctors hd said I was too late and couldn´t have saved him and with everyone close to me telling me I was the hero in the situation.. I just felt like I let my mother, brother and sisters down and on top of that I didn´t have my dad there to just tell me it is ok
it´s a touching song
Background. James Blunt's father Charles, himself a kidney donor, was diagnosed with stage four chronic kidney disease. Blunt wrote "Monsters" to "express his feelings about his father and his illness, almost as if it's a touching farewell to his father".
Lost my dad to alzheimers. Not sure if it's the same thing here. This moved me.
