Nicole is wickedly good at acting. She can portray literally any person she takes on. From singing as a french burlesque dancer to being an evil mother, to a dainty new australian tourist. And now. A queen of the oceans. What. A. Boss.
But the portrayals she makes better(in my opinion)are the ones where Nicole plays a cold and haughty aristocrat or upper class person, one who looks down on those whom she regards as inferiors.

Not sure if you saw her performance in The Others - still the best work she's ever done, in my opinion. She had just separated from Tom Cruise at the time of filming and I reckon she took all that pain, anger and fear and poured it into the movie. Absolutely brilliant and well worth watching.
Well you forgot about portraying a over sex pervert jumping into the bathtub with a 13 year old boy oh yeah that movie that she made years ago what she did a nude scene with a 13 year old boy actually he wasn't 13 I think you would like 16 or 17 images small boy size but there was a lot of controversy about that scene when they filmed it at the film festival before I started premiering in theaters worldwide a lot of people walked out because she walked into the bathroom and stripped and got into the tub with the boy she was trying to help him become a man

I love how Atlanna went from a loving mother telling her son a story to a bad-ass mother protecting him. I hope she will be in the sequel.
I remember being in the cinema and thinking about how I was so disappointed with so many of the other DCEU movies that I was just hoping this movie would be good. After watching this scene I sat back in my chair relaxed and strapped myself in for the ride. Still my favourite DCEU movie to this day. I just loved the fact that this movie knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything else.

The thing i love about this movie is, unlike other origin stories where the child is from a different world and doesn't know anything until the movie starts. This starts out with aquaman always knowing about his other life, and actively trying to ignore it on his own will.

In the comics Atlanna had to spend a couple of hours in seawater per day to survive on land, so she was more or less forced to live near the ocean.

Damn DC’s got the parent intro rip you to shreds moment down pat. Man of Steel was also a good beginning for parents sacrifice moment.
Now that I think about it, there are multiple mortal men in DCEU who are able to show admirable and/ or heroic qualities. Tom Curry, Steve Trevor, and Jonathan Kent were all masculine, caring, and endearing characters. It's so rare to see men/ fathers being portrayed positively in movies and TV these days.
EDIT: I should also add Shazam's Victor Vasquez as an awesome foster father to the list.

That deaging effect was really on point. So seamless. Also that's an awesome battle couple. She leave their son to him cause he will protect him. Fighting the atlanteans was her domain but she knows he can and will protect their son all the same. No matter what. The husband and the wife's duty will always be to their child. And they will always protect their child.

I love this film, its epic nature, its effects, the world building....but the story of Arthur´s parents is what touched me the most. I cried when they met again.
Love this. You can think what you will, but I think Dc movies have increased in quality a lot. I actually enjoyed the other movies, but I loved Wonder Woman, Shazam, and Aquaman. They are focusing on how to do it like Marvel less. Now they are focusing on how they can do it like them
I like old marvel when it is spiderman and Xmen series, but now MCU with too much CGI and comedy, change every lore and character from comic. Try to pair them with race, feminism ...make marvel lose their old way. I feel boring with MCU, i dont want DC go that way, hope they keep it like MOS until now (not that JL from Advenger director)
Which is great because they need to be different.
I guess it's just my personal tastes, but I like the way DC tends to keep the obnoxious wisecracks out of the really serious moments. There was a very carefree and comedic tone to Aquaman, but they still had some really powerful and moving moments. Despite tons of visual and FX spectacles with the huge battles in Aquaman, my favorite moments were probably the character moments like between his parents in this scene and Arthur and Mera in the Italian village. You really did something right as a director if you've impressed me with dramatic character moments in a superhero movie full of CGI battles. Typically I'm expecting those types of dramatic scenes to be barely tolerable at best going into most superhero movies. In fact, the style of this movie is actually one I typically would dislike, but I think they got the characters right and they kept tons of things incredibly loyal to the comics. I ended up buying the 4K Blu-ray (2K intermediate upscale but thankfully Dolby Vision still looks surprisingly good) and have seen it multiple times. BTW, Manta's helmet actually looking accurate compared to the comic was quite a shock to me.

I saw some questions about royalty, and titles so wanted to explain. Queen Atlanna is actually The Queen of Atlantis, Queen Regnant (a ruling queen in her own right), and a descendant of King Atlan. Orvax was a fleet captain who was to wed Princess Atlanna in an effort to bind ties between the Aristocracy and the Sea Force. So the movie referring to Orvax as king prior to his marriage is incorrect. He is not royal and his title acquired AFTER marriage as King of Atlantis is a courtesy title granted to the consort of The Queen of Atlantis. Upon divorce Orvax would cease to be king consort.
So as Prince Arthur is her firstborn and she is a queen regnant, he is heir to the throne of Atlantis. The only thing not clear is that she should still be The Queen of Atlantis and Arthur would be The Crown Prince of Atlantis. I suppose we are to infer that she abdicated the crown or her abandoning it allowed Orm to claim the throne and that she no longer wishes to be the queen regnant. Which allows Arthur to claim the throne as king. So when King Arthur marries, his wife would be queen consort (queen via marriage) and their children would be next in line to the throne however if his queen sired a child with another man, that child would have no claim to the throne as she is a queen via marriage and not blood. I hope this explains the royalty aspect.
One note is Queen Atlanna is now The Queen Mother of Atlantis. Prince Orm of Atlantis is now heir presumptive, which means he is technically next in line to be king. However as it is an existing possibility that someone with a greater claim to the throne can still be born, for example the children of the current king. If Arthur has children, the first born would be heir apparent and displace their Uncle Orm.

Goddamn this movie definitely did well with subtly breaking norms! An interracial Pacific islander and atlantian? couple, a female character with badass fighting skills, and a father figure who listens to his wife without question, all done without shoving it down my throat or making a big deal. Very nice
that first explosion scared kid aquaman so much that for a moment he aged 1 whole year...with longer hair, then reverted back to short hair aquaman...all jokes aside..this fight scene was pretty bad ass.
