When Steve said “No man can cross it” I fully expected Diana to say “I’m not a man” or something, and that would have ruined this scene. The point of the scene was not to show how Diana is great because she’s a woman, but just how powerful she is as a person. That’s what makes this scene work so well.

And it also shows the importance of both genders working together, at least that's one of the lessons I gathered from this scene.

I can’t believe the studio thought about cutting this scene because they thought it was “boring.” It’s a pivotal moment in Diana’s development. She realizes that she can, and should, rely on others. She becomes less hard headed and more willing to cooperate. She becomes a better person.

In fairness, the studio wanted to cut it because it pulled from the narrative momentum, not because it was boring. It doesn't contribute to the story, but that was the point. It was why Patty Jenkins wanted it in there so badly. This is the scene where she becomes Wonder Woman. I'd also argue that it isn't about relying on others. This is about choosing to be a hero, no matter what. Always doing the right thing and sticking to your conviction. The themes of empowering your friends comes through later in the film.

I loved how, even though it would've been so easy to put in a "But I am no man" line in this scene, they chose not to. "It's what I'm going to do". Her climbing up to cross No Man's Land is not about her being a woman or doing something no one else could do, it's about her choosing to be a hero, to stick to her morals and do what she thinks is right.

Where films like Terminator 2 and Alien had their female characters have overtly masculine personas to be strong as seen with Sarah Connor and Ellen Ellen Ripley. What I love about this movie is that it clearly shows that WW is total badass and that she always do what she believes is right. But also the military men aren't just standing around being completely useless. From beginning to end, it shows everyone doing the best they can in whatever capacity they can

    • @somewhat-blue
      @somewhat-blue Рік тому +66

I totally agree! And instead of letting WW be the plot bulldozer and do everything on her own (or even just with one worried sidekick), the story couldn’t have ended the way it did without EVERYONE who was involved. Yes, you need WW with her awesome powers, but you also need Chris Pine the normal guy who was willing to sacrifice himself at the end, and the guy with horrible shellshock who fought anyway, and all the other squishy, breakable little humans behind her who made the choice to do what was right rather than what was easy. I’ve never seen a superhero movie do that.

She doesn't play by the rules, she doesn't''t listen when people put her down, she simply just does what she thinks is right, no matter what may happen to her. At this point in the story, she doesn't know she's actually a god, but she doesn't let it stop her. Powerful stuff.

I love that his point is as valid as hers, and even shows why we need extraordinary heroes sometimes. The men *did* try to cross, to act in that obvious way, but could not. So they tried to help in other ways, because they wanted to something but could only do what they could do (meaning, we can't give what we don't have). But this? This *was* something Diana COULD do, this was a thing that was within her ability to handle and make a difference in. So she did.
    .
And having her priorities straight didn't show in only the big ways, but the small -- she knew the availibility of the weapons (machine guns) was the biggest problem. Not the enemy soldiers who may or may not have wanted to even be there. So she takes out one of the real problematic elements of No Man's Land, because it was there and she could, could make this other bit of difference, along the way to completing her bigger mission.
    .
This scene is a fine example of letting your heart lead but taking your brain with you. She didn't 'rebel' without a 'cause' or Lone Hero it, recklessly charging ahead and high on emotions. She made a choice, maybe quickly, but you could see that she wasn't acting impulsively or blindly without thought, by the way she paused to turn to Steve before going (which is another wonderful trope-aversion; NOT failing to communicate to her partner/team that she's going out into a danger-zone alone).
    .
    I have so much

One thing I really like about this scene is that Dianna doesn't actually cross the trenches, in fact she's pretty close to being overwhelmed by the Germans. What really tips the scales in her favor is Trevor and the others joining in. While it does send a good message about both genders working together, it sends an even stronger message about heroes. Being a hero isn't just doing the impossible, it's also about setting an example for others and letting them risen up to be better people. Trevor deemed it impossible to cross the trenches but Dianna still tried to break through anyway and she nearly died because of it. But seeing her still risk her life to save innocents, this inspired Trevor and the others to join her and together they made the impossible possible.

After watching this, I realized how DC heroes represent the "in darkness there is light" quote. It shows how Batman could have turned into a mass murder, but chose to become a vigilante to prevent anyone ending up like him. It shows how Aquaman could have destroyed Atlantis for banishing his mother but instead chose to lead. It shows how superman could have eradicated humanity because "if I suffered, shouldn't they" but instead chose to protect it. My point is that even if DC doesn't have marvel's quality in CGI or popularity, they make heroes who choose to instead help others.

Although the DCEU would have been much better if WB hadn’t forced the team up so soon it’s still pretty flawed. For me, DC movies are either absolutely amazing, or just bad (Man of Steel, WW, ZSJL are really good, BVS, and Josstice League bad). Marvel movies are usually just good. Not amazing but none of them suck (talking about MCU only). DC heroes aren’t any better than marvels.

One of the best moments in history with a score to match. The compassion here before she placed her crown on and in doing so in that moment the bravery. This was epic.

The way this scene brings a tear to my eye and inspires me to be a better person, to be empathetic like Diana. It's such a powerful film.

@@sugaryheaven4089 Hope there's a particular moment scene that is closer to this one or even top this one.

It’s shocking that the scene didn’t give Wonder Woman a single Oscar nomination. Heck after seeing this scene I predicted this to be Best Picture of that year. That didn’t happen.

Don't get me wrong but the sequel is a pale comparison to this masterpiece! This is emotional, and impactful. The sequel isn't as good as this.
