Spencer and Matt are the MVPs of the album. Guitars are always great but this album Matt and Spencer really upped their game.
Agree, favorite parts of the album are the drum fill at 6:26 and Spencer’s high notes in this song
unpopular opinion probably but I totally agree (guitarist here... ahem) Although seeing Mark play Reptile at his guitar clinic in Tacoma, it is by no means a simple or easy guitar part. The tuning is wack and he pretty much uses his thumb to finger most of the chords... Dude has HUGE hands lol

Even as a musician I cant hook on to any melodic beat except for the chorus. It has so many fills that it overwhelms you, but in a good way. That's how intense the drumming is. Love this song.
1:14, 2:18, 5:06 (heavier part) I recognize that arpeggiated clean part (even the melody of the heavier part), Mark Holcomb, Jake Bowen and Misha Mansoor are amazing!
I didn’t realize how awesome the chorus riff was til this. That delay is epic and the chord at the end of the third bar literally like had me tearing up for some bitchass reason. But it’s one of the best chords I’ve ever fucking heard omg (I’ve been a guitarist for 20 years maybe these things hit me more than the average person). Just listen to this though 1:25 doesn’t that permeate your soul in a way that you can’t even describe in words?
You're right. It begins at 1.17. It's truly amazing. Without vocals it really comes to surface. So good.
Erma gerd yeah it’s like too quiet in the mix with the vocals and everything to hear it like I never heard it before listening to this. And yeah I know the whole chorus riff is awesome but I could hear some of it under the vocals. The specific chord I’m talking about, just one awesome chord, which I recently figured out how to play :D, and was either too quiet in the mix or played to softly or the vocals got louder/higher at that part or something is the one right at 1:25. For anyone wondering how it’s played (the song is in drop C) and the chord is 12th fret on the low (we’ll just call it E string even though I know it’s a C, just to keep things simpler) E string, then 12th fret on the A string, then 15th fret on the D string, then (I think what makes it’s so awesome, cuz this note is actually lower than the second note...the 12th fret on the A string one, and the sound of it being an open note is the best part) the G is just played open...so awesome. And the following chord is the same structure. 7th on the E, 8th on the A, 10th on the D and open G again. So sick.

I just heard something I never heard before…AGAIN…while listening back to this version. And I listened to this a lot cuz I did a guitar cover of it like 2 years ago. Did ANYONE else notice that EXTREMELY dissonant, tense resonance from a barely audible third guitar part during the second verse? You can hear it best without Jake’s part mixed in yet…basically right at 1:53 So yeah if anyone sees this and hears it too, let me know. I just noticed it like minutes ago.

@@silentphil no not the ringing out part at the end of each chord, that’s actually a delay and reverb effect. You can hear it best behind the notes played at 1:50 and 1:56. Also, after this I deconstructed the song by each track and it is a guitar. I also cover this entire song on guitar on my channel if you’re a guitarist and are ever curious how to play it. It’s not too difficult. Lesser so than a lot of their songs anyway.
