Traded in a 2015 WRX for a 2018 M550i. I can agree with you on the handling segment, the ride is a bit softer and doesn't feel quite as agile as the WRX. But then again, the wrx weighed 1105lbs less. But i'm, very happy with it. The sound, the smoothness of the ride. I was 22 years old when I got the subie, and now at 28 it was just time for something a little more grown up, but still fun.
Yesterday, I test drove the 2018 BMW M550i thinking it might be a good trade for my current 2018 Audi S6. The 550i's exterior was pretty blah but so is the Audi. The difference is, the S6 looks like an A6 with subtle changes (a sleeper). The 550i stands out more so you know it's not your average 5 Series. I prefer to fly (or drive) under the radar so the BMW lost my vote. After getting in and starting the 550i, the fake exhaust note was the second to get my attention. It sounded like I was starting a Dodge Hellcat. The S6's exhaust is only heard when you want it to be heard....the burbles and pops are music to your ears! The 550i interior seemed more refined but screamed luxury, as opposed to sport luxury like the S6. 550i=wood and brown leather seats. S6=red and black weaved carbon fiber and red sport seats. The suspension was the next attention getter. The 550i seems to find every crack and crevasse and bounced around at low speeds. Maybe the air suspension in my S6 has me spoiled. Lastly, the 550i has a body kit that flares out beneath the doors. While exiting the vehicle, I hit my calve and could see, in time, it being scratched. Yes, I know my S6 is a half second slower but I prefer the experience of driving the S6 more.

No clue what ur talking about, i think ur just such an audi fan that u were looking for every reason not to switch and god forbid admit a bmw is way better than an s6 lol. No disrespect but I’ve had this car along with an x6m, a regular x6 35i , now an m5 comp and the m550 is the best car I’ve had and literally never noticed any of the things ur taller about

Test drove the 2021 M550i. Felt a bit soft and numb. Or was my mood that day effecting my senses? Will need another test drive to make my verdict.

I wanted to buy an M550i 2 weeks ago and i went to the dealership. As soon as i heard that...that was my "no no" on this car. It is unbelievable how they messed that up.
I know some guys modify their mufflers after they buy the cars. But i`m wondering if there is any coding that can be done to kill that speaker.
I`m more inclined towards the 2020 M500i, they will update the software on that and get it up to 530hp. Lets hope they will also pull out the speaker, or turn it down...99%.
Unfortunately there will never be a car from BMW or other manufacturers without that fake sound.
Even my formed BMW M2 had that :(

Yes, you feel it, but it only happens in the initial stage of the acceleration. After that it settles quite nicely.

Great video great review I own a 2018 M550i do I enjoy it ? Well kind of but just like he states yea the sport suspension is literally annoying feels like a normal 5 series I'm paying $1200 a month for a used 2018 BMW M550i with 9300 miles got it at $69k
Is it worth it ? Nope I will be trading it in 9 months thanks for reading
I miss my 2018 JB4 tuned 340i already that put some real power down you can feel.. miss those roots it's hard to explain but I want to feel the car not have a computer do my driving

what kind of induction noise do you expect to hear when there are 2 big turbos feeding air into the combustion chamber?
I want to hear any other sound coming from the exhaust or from under the bonnet, rather than the fake one :)
Well it's not like there are 8 (or 10) big throttle bodies allowing induction noise to escape any more. Nowadays, induction sound has to pass (backward) through one of 2 turbo fans, increasingly long intake tubing to the hot side, and one of 2 big and restrictive airboxes...before it has to pass through increasingly hushed heat and sound barriers en route to the passenger cabin and your ears. I think it's safe to say that the days of second-to-none induction sounds from BMW engines are effectively gone.

CARtuned! Yes, true! But well if both are stock. M3 was driven by a teenager and M550i driven by a business man or auntie. That M3 would got smoked lol business cars nowadays are pulling away from sports car! (E.g. M760i u dont wanna mess with that)

Uncle Jezza I think it is fake or at least pumped through the sound system. In regular modes I hear the deep exhaust sound in the rear, in sport I hear the sound all around me. It even sounds like the note is slowed down when going at slow speeds. Either way I love the engine in this thing and it sounds better than the F10. I couldn’t really tell the difference from the f10 550i from a 535i until high acceleration

The interior has extremely well engineered insulation and will not let enough engine sound through. This allows for comfortable luxurious travel in standard operation. The extra sound in sport mode became necessary only due to this fact.

The real M5 is 600hp. This one is just 462hp.

Its an f10 550i xdrive thats lost some weight and gained a tad bit of power and torque. its overrated imo the m badge is tbh stupid and the claimed 0 to 100kph time that apprently is better than the f10 m5 is just a stupid selling point. its so much slower than an f10 when it comes to drag races and obv circuit races.
But Stefan, the 0 - 100kph is not only claimed, but it's also real. It's right there at the start of the video.
Much slower the an F10? I highly doubt that's the case in a drag race. But in a circuit race? I have no idea, but judging by the huge amount of understeer the M550i has, the F10 M5 could be faster around a track.
Are you sure you've driven an M550i before?
I would pick an F10 M5 over this car any day of the week, but there's no denying that the M550i is just faster in a straight line.
