I recently test drove the 550i . I was impressed. Comfortable with loads of torque. Happy to see BMW getting more into all wheel drive. They seem to finally realize that cars with over 400 hp also need traction.
Mark Hamilton lol their f12 m6 where awful with traction...its true what your saying..but man when they catch grip...they really move.
That's not a recent development. The previous F10 generation 550i came with XDrive as an option or as standard in Northern climates. Slap a set of winter rims/tires on it and now they'd be deep snow ready too.
I've seen the same m550i in recent videos. I can't get enough of this vehicle.
This car is very nice it's like buying a classic version of the m5 for me
I plan on that being my next BMW. Of course I want one from any of the years that have those rims as an option. Definitely my favorite rims. Currently drive an X5 xDrive50i
This would be on my short list of cars for under 100k. Nice balance of luxury and performance.

What is all that noise inside the car, its plastics or the cameras making noise?
Don't know if it's the Mic you're using but the sound the car makes is abit weird! Like you say the speakers make some fake noise, could be that!

e chang supprisingly from the reviews I have seen the E43 handles better and obviously when it comes to interiors Benz is at the top, but the m550i has a v8 and looks sportier on the outside...hard choice
Thats such a nice engine though. I was lucky enough to get to drive the 750i which is a bit bigger, and more lumpy, more of a cruiser, so I should imagine this is very nice. :-) Thanks for the vid!

Yes it should be a negative. The Dodge Challenger, Hyundai Sonata and Kia Stinger all have larger trunks. When you travel, you don't want to have to pack things in your trunk and on the rear leather seats. If you have kids, this would be out of the question. I understand this all depends on the family and how much you travel but in my case, we travel at least 3 states per trip each year plus my wife is in a wheel chair, so that needs to fit in the trunk too(The wheelchair, not the wife.). Yeah you can lay down the rear seats but then again, your car is limited to 2 people. I checked out the Audi A8's and Mercedes S class's trunk size and both are smaller than a Hyundai Sonata. Sad.
It does have rear folding seats
There is plenty of trunk space. The rear seats fold down if you need more.

I love the fact that you described the dome lights as "Art Deco". Lol
I test drove the M550IX in June when I was car shopping. Living in Chicago I wanted hi performance, luxury and all wheel drive under $85,000. Ended up getting an Audi S6 because they had a better deal. The M550IX is a fun and luxurious car to drive.

Honestly wasn’t impressed when I drove the m550i. I came in an f10 535i and I didn’t feel like it was a downgrade when I was driving home. I really wanted to like the m550i more, I was hoping it would be like a modern f10, but it was more numb and didn’t feel as good to drive imo

Standard BMW leather does NOT feel quality. I drive a F10 520D and it feels super cheap (same leather). Lexus standard leather feels much better.

Car seems so dated compared to new E-class. Only redeeming feature is that V8, not enough for me.
The Merc has more gimmicks and now seems more dated. The N63 is a velvet hammer (fake pumped in sound not withstanding )

I just think BMW used to be more raw and exciting. They have become a little more conservative in design(albeit boring), driving dynamics are less engaging and the interior seems to have become an after thought. If I were spending this kind of money I would much rather plunk down my $$$ on an S Class. My comment was my opinion and as subjective as any other car enthusiast here or elsewhere. The battle will forever rage between BMW/Audi/Mercedes people and that is the best part about this .All of this back and forth at the end of the day is simply subjective fodder. When it comes to you and your money you spend it as you see fit and I'll do the same. Peace
