I think Elvis wanted it all: a wife and family to come home to and the freedom to see other women. He probably should have stayed single but he wanted the family life too.
He did..but not with a forced marriage to priscilla. He knew they were not going to work. He was a famous entertainer..of course he loved women as much as they loved him. He didn't want her. Ppl just can't face the truth of it.

Elvis was roped into doing very much that he "didn't want to do" and that he was vehemently against. Much was going to cause litigation and more expensive costs, so Elvis, who was very much unconfrontational and despised stress, went along. It's of course recorded in his own words too, that he was "railroaded" into that marriage. But there's another very personal reason why it went forward, fast. Elvis loved Lisa Marie with his entire being, and she wasn't going to ever be born illegitimate. But Elvis wasn't even aware of the marriage happening, until 2 nights prior. And all talks, possibilities, considerations were wiped clear off the table. Elvis was marrying her and that's it. The option of divorce was always going to be there. It was a calculated move by others, by which Elvis absolutely did not want and was completely honest about. She knew from the situation, all she needed to know and was too, reluctantly accepting of the result that she'd waited for, and wanted, but deeply unhappy of Elvis' true feelings. It's just a fact.

Listen to jerry schilling he’s genuine about what he said. Elvis had a very dark side to him and people had to tip toe around him.

And he wasn't imature he could relate to a lot of women his age. Most of the women he had were in their twenties and thirties. And he wasn't looking for a mother he was looking for and had some real nice girlfriends as well as Priscilla. Some real nice relationships. And when he was a child he wasn't spoiled rotten his family they loved each other despite the poverty.
He was very immature and insecure and that’s why he was with a 14 year old child!

Joe the diplomat made sure he was always in the best position possible and a sideline MM man, friend of the Colonel, good friend to Priscilla, and he thinks he was Elvis' best friend. All of them claimed to be Elvis' "best friend" like that was going to give you more information on Elvis? Jerry was closer to Priscilla's age. Both Joe and Jerry were more educated then the rest, but I don't think Elvis trusted any one of them more than the other. He used to tell each of them different things. If anything he told any of them surfaced he'd know who the snitch was. Now that was brilliant. Jerry still supports Priscilla because he's still making money off of Elvis too and he can make money off of her. I think he was unofficially Lisa's Godfather, and he was very supportive of Lisa, and he did other things, but now in his retirement, he's cashing in on Elvis with Priscilla. Linda Thompson will be 100 still talking about Elvis, her little 4 yrs. with him, and her stupid chicken soup story. She's only been saying that for 47 year now. She had two other husbands. who are still alive. I'm sure after they're gone she'll be writing tell all stories about them as well. Jerry had to walk a tight line not to take sides, but he makes a living now cashing in on Elvis just like the rest. 1250.00 for him and Thompson to give a small group a talk about Elvis and tell the same old stories they've told for 47 years in a Graceland venue. What would Elvis say about them coming to Graceland and telling thing he'd rather the public not know. Jerry and Priscilla consider themselves "celebrities". I hope Riley writes a book on all of them after they're gone. I'm sure she grasped enough through Lisa and on her own to stop this stuff after they're gone. I don't think she'll disclose that much in Lisa's biography. I think she'll want it to be positive and about Lisa, but I sure would like to know what Lisa poured into her tapes about what she suffered at the hands of these people who were supposed to take care of Lisa after Elvis died, but used her to get control of what Elvis left his only daughter. And...the made her life miserable. Particularly her mother. But...maybe after grandma is gone, Riley will have something to say on her own.
It was heartbreaking when Jerry said he was at the hospital with Elvis when Lisa was born and was at the hospital with Priscilla when Lisa died.
Excellent comment. Jerry really has a chip on his shoulder. Always telling stories about his so-called best friend Elvis in which Elvis looks bad and Jerry looks superior. Why didn't he bring Lisa Marie to the hospital when he last saw her and Lisa Marie couldn't stand on her feet or talk normally. The fact that Jerry is such good friends with mother from hell Priscilla while at the same time claiming he was kind of a substitute father for Lisa Marie makes him suspect.
@@debra2700Why was Jerry at the hospital when Priscilla let Lisa Marie die from a heart attack because she signed a DNR the minute after she arrived at the hospital were Lisa Marie was being treated. No normal mother would do that. Moreover Priscilla signed the DNR before Riley had arrived. Lisa Marie and her mother had financial differences over tens of millions of dollars that Priscilla owed to Lisa Marie and they were not on speaking terms since 2016. It makes you think!
@@jannekedevries2360 I've never understood how Jerry managed to be so close to Lisa Marie and Priscilla too when Lisa Marie quite clearly despised her mother but Lisa also stayed close to Joe Esposito which made no sense to me either since Joe wasn't any more loyal to Elvis than some of the guys that she referred to as vampires. Lisa Marie was a grown woman who didn't go to the hospital for whatever reason. We don't know whether or not Jerry tried to get her to go or not but he couldn't force her to go. By the time Lisa was rushed to the hospital, nothing could have saved her. Apparently she had several feet of rotting intestines and would have died of sepsis if the heart attack hadn't gotten her first. As for what type of friends these men were to Elvis, his cousin Billy Smith said that Elvis would pick a favorite until that person fell out of Elvis' good graces to make the others jealous, would fire these guys routinely and then rehire them, buy them gifts or yell at them for really no reason. Elvis was very controlling and manipulating and unpredictable but in his defense, these guys went from being his friends to being his employees and he felt he needed to be in control because he feared he would lose them the way he lost Gladys. Elvis was a complicated person and Lisa Marie took after him in that regard.

Then she was marrying the wrong man if she thought that but she didn't. Priscilla knew exactly who she was marrying. She knew Elvis was cheating on Anita Wood with her. Priscilla didn't want to get married. it was part of the deal Elvis had to make with her father, so he didn't take him to court for dating an underaged Priscilla. Her father forced Elvis to marry her when she was 21 for the money she'd get married or divorced. Elvis bought her family houses, cars etc. Priscilla just sold the house Elvis bought her parents for millions after her mother died. The only thing Priscilla ever really loved was MONEY. At almost 80 she's still making tons of money off of Elvis. Her recent movie? She made that same movie for television in the 80's. Revamped it for the big screen, hoping to make more millions. The movie didn't do well, but she paid to say it did. You need to read the book Child Bride. Priscilla was and is a grifter. She was groomed to take Elvis in from the beginning. He found out she was not the person he thought he was marrying when it was too late. Priscilla does not grieve... she starts making money as fast as she can.

They tried to do other things when Elvis wasn't using them, but whatever happened to all the things Elvis bought them? Houses, cars, motorcycles, horses, Did they sell them for the money? People forget that in the 70's what the MM was making was higher than any job they could have been working at. It's hard to believe that now but the minimum wage back then was in some instances 1.00 or 2.00 an hr. Plus, they vacationed with Elvis and got so many benefits. They certainly have nothing to complain about. I think they all thought maybe they'd be in Elvis' will if anything happened to him. Red and Sonny had a lot of lawsuits against them. That's why Vernon fired them. He probably thought he could get out of the lawsuits that way. Then they could be hired back. Vernon did stuff like that to avoid paying anything. Elvis never should have had him handling the money.

It's' only natural for couples to plan things to do together alone. These guys suck in my opinion. Friends have their place and so do wives.
Would you want to marry a man who really didn't want to get married? Come on... If Elvis were truly in love he wouldn't have wanted the MM around all the time. If they were in love with their wives, they wouldn't have wanted to be around all the time while they're wives were raising their kids alone. Priscilla's father and mother were dead broke and living in an apartment where hookers lived. Priscilla was 11 and 12 dating several boyfriends. When she says she was old beyond her years, she's not kidding. She was involved with a lot of BF's before she contacted Curried Grant a fellow GI who knew Elvis. And...she set that up to meet him. It's all documented in the book Child Bride which Priscilla herself participated in. That's a story in itself. No one can talk about anything because Priscilla makes everyone sign an NDA not to talk about her if she has any contact with them. When she passes away, if anyone is still alive, then the truth will come out as the NDA (or gag orders) will be null and void and if anyone is still alive they'll be talking about Priscilla. She won't care because she'll be gone.

One thing that still gets left out is that not only was Pracilla too young, inexperienced to life let alone one so far removed from most peoples reality. Further these men were allowed to simply run amuk like a bunch of immature frat boys for years. As evidenced by them still when this was filmed.
Of course she would not want them around. It fed Elvis'sego and destructive personality. They looked at her as more a threat to what they wanted and had prior. That being part the inner "good ol' boy" circle.
Common threads run through the "Memphis Mafia" interviews, that being one of insecurity and an underlying jealousy. They each present themselves at various times as being one if not THE closest "friends" of Elvis's, while also being highly hypocritical, petty & judgmental of one another. Several if not all going so far as to blame one another for this or that. They all wanted to be teachers pet. They were seduced by the lifestyle, no different then Priscilla would eventually be. Except she was his wife and mother of his only child. That is where most of their snide or hateful comments stem in my personal opinion.
Like the "positions" comment in regards to Prascilla which besides being crude is no way to discuss their "supposed" friends ex-wife and mother of his child. Seriously? Did they not think Lisa Marie would see or hear this? Good documented reason for her not to have liked them.
While they all try to distance themselves from the drug use, narcissism, violence, excess and various other reasons they were fired, it is clear...none were angels. Far from it and certainly each were guilty of some pretty disgusting acts. Including Elvis.
Red & Sonny fed off each other the most from what I have seen and read. They deny being violent and abusive towards people, however others from both within and outside the group state they were absolutely out of control and extremely quick to beat on people where there was little to no need. They were dismissed after more than one lawsuit was filed for those apparent reasons. Then they wrote the tell all book shortly before Elvis died.
What Elvis did was surround himself by jocks, yes men and those caught in by his charisma.
Those rarely are friends...in the end from several comments and actions by Elvis, he knew this and had grown tired of them as the associates that most really were.
Unfortunately, all he did was replace them with newer and less invassive models. That's where their anger really stems, IMHO.

Elvis was talking to Red West about why some of the guys were told they couldn't attend the ceremony.
Red West was a scum for taping Elvis' phone call without him knowing it, but he did Elvis a favor, as Elvis says himself that he had nothing to do with that wedding. ELVIS WAS RAILROADED, and boy did Elvis pay for that quick wedding. They all got his money after that. In 1977 Elvis was not wel,l and forced to preform for the money, and no one cared. He either died, or as some believe he left his life for something better. I'm just glad he got away before they would force him to sell Graceland. That would have broken his heart. Then they tried to force Lisa to sell Graceland by bankrupting her on the inside of this "family business". Priscilla failed, so she sues her own daughters will, and she still gets 10,000 a month from Graceland whether she does anything or not. Riley works for nothing. Priscilla got 1M out of the grandkids insurance money, got 9/10 of the estate for her son, by another man, who didn't even know Elvis, and hated both Elvis and Lisa. The question is....will it come out before Priscilla dies what a scam artist she is, or after she dies. Joel Weinshanker fired her from EPE in 2020, and he can't talk about why, but when she's gone??? All the people she's scammed, if they're still alive, will be glad to finally tell their stories.

She had a close relationship with Elvis mother who strongly approved of her. For certain he would not have let Anita go, if Gladys was alive because Elvis was super close to his mother and listened to her. Gladys, a devout Christian, now runs the risk of having a Scientologist ex-wife buried next to her.

Funny how they didn’t have such problems with any other partner of Elvis, just Priscilla. They all shared the same intentions so it’s strange that they didn’t work together with Priss and Parker to keep taking advantage of Elvis.
Once you take the marriage vows you are obligated to God to take those vows seriously. Famous or not. He had no business to sleep with other women while married to Pricilla weather he wanted to be married or not. Any more than she shouldn't have had an affair with Mike. Both share that responsibility to be faithful. Marriage vows aren't to be taken lightly. He shouldn't have married her if he felt he wasn't ready, and she was way too young to have understood the seriousness of those vows. I don't think she understood the reality of what marriage to a big star like Elvis really would have meant. He couldn't stay home and playhouse all the time because of his tours. The Memphis Mafia really demanded too much of his time and should have given them more time to devote to his marriage. He was married and had the obligation to spend time with his wife too. They could have spent time with Elvis and Pricilla and worked out a way to do just that so Elvis could spend more personal time with his wife and balance out the other time with his friends in the Memphis Mafia. If things weren't working out then they obviously wasn't spending enough time with his wife. Elvis definitely should have gotten some professional help with his drug problem as well, I'm sure that contributed not only to his health issues, but his marriage problems as well. Certainly, Colonel Parker didn't help matters by constantly keeping Elvis so busy so he could feed his gambling habit.
Elvis was a grown man. To string a young girl along for years terrible. Priscilla had feelings to. Priscilla was married Elvis wasn't. There that said it all.

She was already an adult when she moved to Graceland, Elvis barely interacted with her since he was always working and when he was home, according to the MM itself, he tried to avoid her as much as he could. There had to be another reason for them not to like her. Which it’s extremely odd since they all shared the same intentions towards Elvis, they could’ve easily been allies like Priscilla and Parker.

Money: everybody who doesn't know what really happened always only criticize Elvis for "only being interested in young girls". He wasn't. His girlfriend back home at the time when he met Priscilla was only 2 years younger than him and he had even dated girls that were several years older than him. She had just found out that Captain Beaulieu was not her biological father and made life hell for her mother, stepfather and half siblings. She and Elvis only met a few short months before he would return to the US. Once he was back home, she begged him in letters and phone calls to talk to her parents to let her visit him in the US. Her parents probably saw a nice way out of the problems she was causing in the family and first let her visit and later let her finish her last year in school in Memphis when she moved in with Elvis' father and stepmother. In the years before that, her parents even let Priscilla send pictures of herself dressed in babydolls etc. to Elvis. What rational parent does that? Looks like they were building a case (to let Elvis be "caught in a trap he couldn't get out") to get their hooks into Elvis. He was supposed to marry her at 21, but she was almost 22 when she, her parents and Col. Parker had to practically forcefully remind him to marry her and then a quicky wedding ceremony was put together that took all but 8 minutes!!! followed by a press conference.

In the south, country folk married very young in the past. My paternal grandmother married at 14 to an older man. Life was short and poverty was rampant. Allowing your daughter to marry as a teen removed some financial burden from the family and guaranteed the girl didn’t get in “trouble.” (Aka pregnant out of wedlock.)
Of course he didn't want to marry her. Her parents were around to see that she wasn't quietly gotten rid of. But then again, Elvis didn't want to get rid of her entirely. Didn't want her, didn't want anyone else to have her. A common male affliction.
