After watching this whole special, I have no doubt that Elvis was bi-polar and between that and his country boy makes good attitude and the pressure of handing out his hard earned money to everyone who had his hand out killed him. The Memphis Mafia was just as culpable as Col. Parker except they did care about him MORE than just a pay check. Can you imagine each of them going to Elvis with their petty problems, "lamar did this" and "Joe did this" each wanting to be his bestie and fighting for Elvis' attention and favour. I could feel what he went through. I'm sure the drugs helped at first and it made him the work horse that everyone needed him to be, then they bitched about it not seeing that he couldn't keep up mentally, emotionally, and physically. They vilified Elvis for the drugs, not seeing that his responsibilities to THEM is what drove him to them.

I don't think at that time Elvis would not have garnered the opportunities he got so fast, nor would he died so young. Elvis knew he could do so much more. He died primarily of dissapointment and boredom. He wanted to be a serious actor like Brando, he wanted to tour Europe, not stay in Vegas for a decade and a half. He became a cash cow and he also had bills to pay so he felt trapped. He had guys to play, he had obligations and fans. He was generous to a fault buying complete stragers Cadillacs and the "Colonel " a jet. He wanted to be loved. Also, Geller wanted Presley off drugs, enjoying nature, excercising and getting in tune with himself. Elvis "quiet quit" in this generations terms of what we used to cal "phoning it in". The Colonel also had an addiction or so. It was a symbiotic relationship. Lots of people were living off Elvis.

`Parker went to Elvis funeral dressed up like a clown and had a contract to make sure even now that Elvis was dead that he would still profit. If that is someone who cared and loved another person then I guess he loved him very much. But I think Elvis was a meal ticket for a lot of people and sadly I think he really believed he needed them around him. I don't know maybe he did, but I don't know I think that book that a couple of people his close people wrote about him really destroyed him he obviously felt betrayed and they did betray him cause even if it was a mistake how he let them go they should never have written that book.

Parker is to blame, that’s for sure. But he can’t take all the blame since he wasn’t working alone. As far as it’s known, Priscilla was Parker’s only ally and while the boys also exploited and took advantage of Elvis, they did it on their own. That means, the blame should be distributed equally since they were all guilty of the same crime.

I blame the colonel for Elvis’s depression and drug habits and initial downfall. All he wanted to do was be a vampire that could drain Elvis dry on a whim. I feel like the colonel was addicted to Elvis’s success just as bad as Elvis was to the pills. Elvis knew he’d been finessed and blackmailed into eternal servitude to that loser. He was SO DONE with it all he’s rather have died than to fail to stand up to him one more time. It would have been nice if he did live and get to tour Europe. But even Elvis knew that deep down the only way he would ever escape the colonel truly is if he just gave up and laid down and died. He pretty much dead weighted thru the end of his own life to try to spite the colonel at least ONCE. But it never worked since the colonel is a psychopath and he wouldn’t have given up until Elvis died anyways. And I think Elvis knew that. He’s made a deal w the devil on his shoulder a LONG time ago. The only reason he kept going back to him wasn’t just for the money. but also bc the colonel was the only “parental” figure he had left. I always felt that the mafia saying “his addiction wasn’t escapism he just loved it” is bogus. I think Elvis just couldn’t go on without his mama. Their bond was something nobody ever understand or measure up to her in his world. Gladys was Elvis’s other half. The innocent, determined, eager Elvis was made into a husk w his mama died. I think he was just too lonely and afraid to change wat he’d done. He knew he couldn’t cope, he knew he was trapped, and he knew if something big didn’t change he was also gna be all alone. I think he viewed the drugs as a lesser evil than the pain he had to feel when he was awake. He’d rather go to sleep and not wake up than to go on another washed up “tour”. He was just sick and tired of being sick and tired. RIP King u will always have a place in my heart! PS-SCREW THAT VAMPIRE COLONEL HES TRASHHHHH. He’s a damn demon!!!

I can see why Priscilla only allows Jerry Schilling in programs and interviews ! Most of these guys were just Leeche’s and opportunists! Joe Esposito , in my opinion, was one of the worst ! He was the really flunkie for Elvis by his own choice and fooled Elvis into trusting him ! Red West was really a good guy who got a bad experience with Elvis. Red could be crass, but truly cared about Elvis ! Esposito was up to no good and bad for Elvis fir his own interests ! He was one who kept Elvis in bad way ! I believe Schilling was best friend who cared ! Red and Charlie too ! I think Larry Geller confused Elvis and was a bit nuts himself . Those fans who truly miss Elvis wish he was still with us and it hurts ! But as Johnny Mathis, once addicted himself said, “ when you’re addicted, the drugs tell you what to do , you have no control. Only someone from outside, family or a really good friend or mgr. who can get you treatment “ ! “ you’ll never do it on your own “ !
