And kinda how you can tell he’s slightly tired of education…. But because he wants dogs n people to strive to be better he continues to give his knowledge!!!

I just want to thank you. for your time in helping people learn how to train your dog. I have had great time training my dog just with your commands and the 20 ft leash. I’m excited to add the e collar in the next few days. You have been a blessing with simple and easy explanation on training the proper way. Ty I’m excited about where me and my dogs relationship and behavior is going. I love my dog and you have helped me and him become better

Well said Larry. I spent weeks getting her slowly use to the remote collar before ever correcting her. I agree that getting rid of leash/lead to soon is a big mistake. I do think many people misuse remote collars though, usually really cheap ones.

New subbie. I’ve been studying your technique to use on my 18 mos old GSD. We’ve had more than one conversation about rehoming him but you’ve given me hope and a plan. Thank you for all the useful information you share.

GSD's can be hard headed, but if you work with him, he will be one of the best dogs you will ever have. When ours hit 2 years old, its like a switch flipped. He mellowed out and was so much easier to work with and he lived to make us happy. We lost him a little over a year ago and I still miss him alot. He is the reason i really want another shepherd

Hi I really enjoy your vids. I have learned so much over two years working with our two doodles with the e collar. We have put in a extreme amount of work rasing two well behaved dogs. I have one issue with one of them and no matter how much I work with him I can't seem to get him to stop. When he sees another dog he whines so loudly and consistently to get to the dog only to play not out of aggression at all, but it causes a huge scene and of course get the other owners well behaved dog acting up as well. Nothing pulls him put of it when he starts. Would using the e collar the moment he starts the behavior to shut this down be a good idea? I understand his excitement but would love to stop the big squeeling scene before he has a chance to Amp up? I'd really appreciate your feedback on this.

Appreciate the knowledge. When you say once the dog is conditioned to the e collar then you can break behaviors do you mean conditioned for any behavior such as recall or heel? Or do you restart the process of overlaying leash pressure, then e collar then use as punishment to that specific habit you’re trying to break? Im trying to think of ways you layer in leash pressure to habits and its not making sense to me

Have you or could you do a video on nuisance barking? We know it’s not about him needing to potty or eat. Our puppy is a Golden Retriever. And we walk him and play with him often. We have tried to have him in the room with us and he barks so loudly, even at 8 months old so we end up having to put him in playpen a few rooms away.

I would try redirection exercises with moderate pressure on leash. Start from a distance of people or animals that your dog reacts to and get closer slowly whilst still using redirection and praise every time the dog looks back and works with you. Soon they become desensitised to it. But slowly does it.

I have a very determined Dachshund and have had him for eight years. I use a citronella bark collar on him which is very effective. I don't even need to turn it on anymore however when I take it off of course he barks. Now when I put on the e-collar he feels like his bark collars on so he walks around with his head down waiting for me to remove it. Is there a way that I can retrain him with the e-collar so that when he's wearing it he doesn't feel like he's being punished you might say?

I have a chow chow that is starting to act "agressive" at the dog park. I think he is nipping dogs on the butt and growling to try and herd the other dogs. He loves to chase and be chased at sprinting speed. I don't think it is aggression, but it looks that way. Is that something I could use an e-collar for?

My main issues with my 1 year old lab pit mix is jumping on me , jumping on the counter/stove and the occasional barking at me or from his crate. Is the e collar gonna help with that? I see so many videos that are talking about being off leash and recall. My dog is never gonna be off the leash we don’t have a yard and live in a city. I mostly just wanna stop the jumping and barking. Thanks!

Larry, I have a 4 month old puppy who keeps biting me. She will come up behind me and bite my leg, greets me with a hard bite on the hand or arm. My arms are bloody and bruised. I realize she is teething but I can’t take much more. Putting her in time out, a cage, hasn’t worked. She knows sit, stay, come, and kisses so she isn’t dumb. She gets a lot of exercise. Will the collar help?

I’m unsure of how to use it or not to change his mindset from being aggressive towards deliveries or anyone just ringing the bell or coming to the door. Any videos that might be helpful? Advice? Does anyone have a link to Keezy's (spelling is probably wrong) training? The human aggressive dog. I am having a trouble finding the videos (i think there's three??) but Larry seems to mention that dog a lot. I would love to be more in the loop as it sounds like a fascinating journey. Also, thank you so much for your videos, Larry. They are amazing and SO informative. I would say I have a rather intermediate knowledge of dog training (I have competed and trained professionally but I am far from an expert), but I've only ever used R+. Thank you for opening my eyes. I was raised that e-collar and other tools are evil and inhumane. I've watched about 30% of your videos so far, but you've completely changed my mind. It matters who is holding it and how they use it. It is not abuse when it is being done correctly. Thank you for showing me the light!!!!

we have a 7 month old Weimaraner she is a very well behaved dog, until a stranger comes by, or if she is outside without leash she tends to run to a neighbor. I want to try to work on jumping on people and leash training. She knows commands, she just doesn't always choose to listen. She gets overly excited. We are getting an e collar to try it out, but we are confused on how to apply it to her training without frightening her. Thanks for you video series!

If my son or I get near him when he is eating or chewing a bone he snarls and bites. I use the e-collar on human aggressive dogs. Some are severly aggressive. I do not shock them. I give them maybe 2 - 3 seconds to meet someone and then on a very light stim, just to get their attention, I tap and they turn to me and we off we go. They get treats to. Takes awhile but it is just one of the things that work in the protocol.

I thought I remember you saying to use the e collar in these situations, am I correct with this? I’m not sure if this counts as physical behavior as you talk about or is it something that the dog can’t control and thus an e collar correction wouldn’t be advised. Thanks for any help.

    • @electric1609
      @electric1609 6 років тому +1

Good question. I've wondered that exact thing myself. It is my understanding though, that that correction was more acceptable because he was correcting a precursor to an explosion. ie the dog chose to give larry a dirty look out of fear rather than keep focusing on the handler and the command.
I'm trying to wrap my mind around this one too. Where do you draw the line...? My take is that trying to correct the explosion will do you no good because the dog is over threshold and that's that. Only physical distance and the feeling of safety will truly resolve the explosion. Whereas quick little corrections to KEEP the dog BELOW threshold are more fair to the animal? And in that case it was like a quick reminder that "hey! Let's focus on the place command and not get worked up about the harmless bystander"....?

My dog has been eating his POOP ever since I got him from my breeder it has been over 2 months now he is a 17 week Rottweiler I know this is your specialty Larry and I have been watching a lot of your videos and you seem like you're not a softy but also not an abusive trainer I trust that you know what the hell you are doing with this breed of dog especially. Anyways I took him to the vet & he was diagnosed with Giardia (TOTAL NIGHTMARE BTW because he kept reinfecting himself due to eating the crap) he said that my dog is most likely is eating his poop because the parasites are not allowing his body to absorb nutrients which makes him feel like the poop is a way to get more nutrients... so I took shifts with my wife for about 21 days and had him on 24hr watch. FINALLY he was parasite free and we made damn sure with 4 $50 tests. After that nightmare the habit of eating his damn poop stuck with him. He is currently on a soft chew and a powder my vet recommended that prevents the dog from eating his doo doo.
Just to let you know I work from home and I am with my dog all the time except for when I go to bed or leave for 30 minute increments throughout the day so he knows it's okay to be alone. He knows to go to the bathroom on pads 80-90% of the time with a few occasional messes on the kitchen floor because he is a poop walker he starts off good and sometimes it all goes to sh**. He will wait about 60 seconds after he poops and if I am not there to save the day he will happily feast on the feces. I have camera's placed on him with motion detectors to watch his every move when I am not around. He's blocked off in my kitchen when he is alone which has a pretty good amount of space.
I purchased the E-Collar yesterday got the one you recommended the mini educator to correct bad physical behaviors as you were saying in the beginning of this video and i'm pretty certain turd chomping is a physical behavior a really gross one at that. Man does he love him some poop I should've named him the turd monster. a few days ago I went to the store for 25 minutes and this little guy took a hughmunga dunga and devoured it with ease as I am watching hopelessly on the camera praying amazon doesn't lose my package.
So now what? My wife really doesn't want him to be on the collar even though I've showed numerous videos and reviews of people saying e collars work but all those videos and reviews are for older dogs getting corrected and now I'm like wait maybe I'll mess with my dog's mental health shocking him every-time he goes in for the turd meal. Would this be good for this specific physical behavior and I'm thinking this is perfect for this specific case of the poop munchies. BUT is he too young? Will I create a Sh** monster?
If anyone else is reading this comment and has had this issue in the past please give me feedback or advice cause I know Larry is a busy guy and I really want to educate in shit-TA-matics...

Have you considered changing your dogs food? We had this issue, and we changed the food, and the gross behavior changed.

Soap628 There are also supplements sold at the store to help with this issue, and if those do not work; time for a vet visit to check blood work to see if puppy has a deficiency.

Hi Larry. I have a 15 week old puppy that we have had dominance and aggression issues with since 8 weeks old. We have taken him to two different puppy schools and both times the trainer is stunned and doesn't really know what to offer us. When he doesn't get his way he is incredibly aggressive towards humans including myself and my partner, vets and trainers. Will bite and latch on with a very firm bite. We have tried putting him on the ground and parking him but that just gives him what he wants. We have tired holding him in place but he cries and screams and uses his whole entire body strength to break free all while biting and latching onto us. We just don't know what to do. This happens when he doesn't get his way. Maybe on a walk and we need to fix his harness or when we are holding him and he wants to play on the ground or with something. Please help.

india hughes : could be due to poor breeding and genetic defects.

india hughes : sometimes bad breeding leads to mental problems.

We did rescue him off a farm. His mum is a foxy pug and dad is a bichon shitzu. In that case what can we do? Can we get him tested?

Also to add, he is fantastic at obedience. Picks things up very quickly.

india hughes maybe due to the mixture of that gene pool, he's not suitable to be kept as a household pet, which is probably why the puppy schools couldn't really teach him. If he knows obedience commands, it doesn't make him a submissive pet...
My Bull Terrier has no aggression issues. He is particularly stubborn and will challenge your authority almost every single day... he's got all the exercise, good food, affection etc..
However I think his behavioural issue is due to bad breeding line because when I bought him,the seller couldn't really tell me who his parents were..
I've trained my dogs ever since I was young but I completely gave up with my bull terrier. So I handed him over to my friend who is a dog trainer. He said he knew how to fix his issues as he's got a small pack of dogs to subdue the bull terrier.
