This is hands-down the best video for E collar training on the Internet. I have watched thousands of hours of Dog training videos and I have studied and read countless hours about the e collar and dog training nothing compares to this and what I learned in 30 minutes thank you so much for this Larry. I’ve been training dogs for about six years now and you were the one person now that I give my time to learn from, there’s no bullshit. I finally started my own business about two months ago with your help and I just wanted to say thank you
agreed 100% Larry explains everything SO well and does things others don't such as start off teaching the dog that an e-collar is a good thing. I just got my e-collar....have been watching all kinds of how-to videos...none come close to this and his 'first session' video...I'm now excited to get started.
@@TimothyArmstrongamblixVR exactly. This vlog is by far the best. I’m deleting my other saved vlogs on e collar training and just watch Larry’s exclusively. His way definitely makes sense. He proves that you don’t have to be in the e collar high numbers for this to work.
Your comment is the only reason I am going to watch this one. I've now watched about a dozen videos and have no real understanding of how to safely and effectively use an e-collar. I am not the brightest but this should not be so difficult to comprehend.
@@jenmdawg we just started with a trainer today. They use an ecollar for training. I am already questioning it after seeing this video. So glad you explain that the dogs need to know the commands. I’ve trained dogs in group settings. I train my rotties and then introduce the ecollar. This is my first time on this collar because I have a new guy almost a year old and my other collar was 15 yrs old lol. We have been training all along and I’ve just introduced the e-collar. Tap tap is all I’ve had to use so far. His response to the tap is the same as he would respond without it. I’m adding even more distractions because I live on a busy lake and want him to have his freedom but to be outside with me but stay on my property regardless of different people and dogs walking by. Kids have been his weakness. He loves them. One lane dirt roads and people walk around. Many do not leash their dogs. They don’t listen and I don’t want him to “not” listen or it’s chaos. It’s been hard for him but he LOVES to work. He can’t wait to please. I alway put so much into my male rotties because they’re the first to get blamed. We’re still working on introduction. He isn’t off leash until I’m positive his recall is 100% for his sake and safety
Clear, simple directions! I have watched so many videos on e collar training and yours has the clearest message. Thank you for making it so easy to understand!

That’s the best ecollar training video I’ve seen demonstrated. Well done and very very very helpful that you used the sound box. Your daughter is adorable!!!
This is hilarious and so beneficial to me. I have a rescue that is dog reactive and unable to focus when a dog is there. I purchased a pager only system and am hoping this can enhance his learning with me so he can gain confidence. Also, thanks for the reinforcement that ecollar isn't used to teach.

I also can't express what a great idea it is to work with the handler first so they can work out the kinks before potentially making those mistakes with the dog and confusing them. Thank you so much, sir!
I can’t thank you enough for these videos, and this one in particular. I’m a trainer and I’m unfamiliar with ecollar work, but wanted to learn how to condition a dog to the tool properly for a client who wants to use one. I wouldn’t use it without a better understanding, even though they’ve already had the dog on the ecollar prior to hiring me(I’ve corrected the behaviors they needed corrected using counter conditioning/desensitization, they want to continue to use the ecollar for off leash recall), it seemed to me the ecollar was being used improperly(punishment), and I got them to agree not to use it until I could get a better understanding of how to use it correctly. This video was huge for me! I’m not sure if I’ll use ecollars as a regular thing, but knowing how to use them properly takes the a huge weight off my shoulders!
A trainer I am working with had me review this video...she was using it a a prep for some work we are going to do... and now I know why...excellent video. Also D_O_G was a cute puppy and added a nice touch to the video...the absolute right approach to using an e collar.
Getting an E collar today from Amazon and I am so glad that I saw this video first I’ll definitely be working on the conditioning and intermittent phases for sometime and will be adapting Athena to the E collar per your instructions I also ordered your book today thanks Larry and Sophia
Hi Larry love your work with dogs and dog owners .. 13 years ago I happen to get a pit bull Cross American bull dog red nose. I tried everything to get her not to jump up onto people . She wouldn’t do it to me as I could anticipate her jump and lift my knee up and said NO as she was about to . She wouldn’t do it to me but she kept on doing it it to my elderly mother. So I purchased E collar on line and when it arrived u tested it on myself and it freaked me out how much of a shock it possessed . So i placed it on my dog on the lowest setting and as she approached my mother and I could see what was goin to happen I zapped her mid jump and associated NO commanded at same time she backed off immediately. Next time she approached my mother and was about to jump I said NO to her and she backed off immediately. I only ever used it once . She never jumped on me or my mother ever again . I guess I was lucky. But I can see how stupid people can abuse this valuable tool.. your a top block I’m watching you and Tom rite now on his show . I m from Australia . I feel this tool has to be regulated somehow as it’s just to easy to get on line over here .. thanks for your tips 9:43
This video was so helpful! I’ve never used an e collar because I don’t want to use it wrong or have a dog that only listen when I bust it out (which is how I see e collar use all the time) I’m excited to introduce it to my 9 month old pup Loretta. We have some things it will def help her with. Like jumping up on all our friends and family and bark / whining when tied up while we are camping even though we are like only 10 feet away. She is a good dog I think this will help us fine tune her obedience ❤
We are in a situation wit 2 huge chocolate lab/blue heeler mix dogs. They are brutally prey driven. But in the home at night these two are sweethearts. I am so glad that this e collar is used as a 'treat' a positive thing. Taking them out of their paddock at night is a nightmare. We are adding an anteroom where we can get leashes, prong collars or e collar. We've owned this one e collar for a few years. Have not been able to learn how to use it so we haven't used it and I am so very glad for your video. We are training them for Urban Mushing. Best thing we could do to get them exercised and in control.
I am so thankful for this video! I wish there was a way to require everyone who has an e collar watch this video. Unfortunately, everyone I know uses it only for corrections. I hate that so much! I never thought I’d use one. But, after many months of trying to teach my dog to listen off leash and stay in the yard, he was doing great, even with distractions, then one day he decided not to listen when there was an animal rustling in the bushes. He took off! After that, he realized there was nothing I could do to stop him, and he wouldn’t listen off leash. I was devastated! I want him to have freedom to be a dog, but I didn’t think that was possible with his strong prey drive. Your videos have given me hope. I bought an e collar and started training after watching your videos. Training started off pretty rough. I had a very hard time finding his working level. I almost gave up, but I trusted you when you said even fearful dogs will come around. Your advice about tapping stim then reward seemed to make a big difference! I’m starting to see some good results. I wish there was a trainer in my area that followed all of your advice. I could use some help letting me know if I’m doing anything wrong. Thanks for your book and all of your videos!
Absolutely amazing!!!!! I love your method! I feel confident working with our irish wolfhound pup now that ive watched this and now know we have more work to do before we use the e collar. Thanks for a fantastic video
This is the BEST easy to understand e-collar video out there! I totally agree with everything Larry is saying. If you haven’t got his book on e-collar training - it’s a must! 👍🏽🐾
You did a heck of a good job with this vid. I learned alot. We have 2 baby goldendoodle's that when the time is right and they know what there commands mean will be introducing them to the e collar in a very gentle way like you taught. Thank you.
Thank you for this update. Your original video with Sophia a while ago. Boy-oh-boy has she grown up! It is great to see the two of you work together. You are the guiding force in my change in perception of e-collars. So much that we are now, under professional guidance, training our dog using a lot of the principals you teach. Communication... not punishment! Thank you again!
I've navigated through your videos to understand the true intention of the "collar" and how to implement it! We couldn't be happier, our 18 month "crazyhead" Bernadoodle/aussie has made a complete 180, his recall is on point! "Sharpen the skills" says Larry....thats an understatement, it amazing what we have accomplished!
Larry khron An example of e collar use that could not have been presented better I have had your e collar book for some time now but so much clicked into place watching this video fantastic job man. You also have such a lovely family.
This is great. I have done so much research to find a good video on introducing my dog to an e collar with no luck. But this one is exactly what I've been looking for.. people underestimate how important it is for the dog owner/trainer to be well educated in whatever they're using.
I found this very helpful compared to many other videos I’ve watched. Great specifics, love the examples, clarity, and understanding of proper use. Will be watching more of your videos and sharing with others. Much appreciated!
Thank you for taking the time to give us an idea of what to expect with e-collar training. Very different approach from 30 years ago working with the police force. I felt so sad for those broken dogs at the time and also now.
Thanks. This is so useful. I have a question. Can a dog distinguish between say two signals on the transmitter device, or a long continuous one? In other words, can different signals mean different actions?
Outstanding instruction and training Larry and Fiogi! Thank you for sharing this! Also would love to see you finally be able to take Fiogi to town and see if she behaves there. One more thing, if you watch the video you will notice that you owe Fiogi 2 skittles. There were 2 commands with reward given and you shorted her 2 skittles. Pay up Larry...
Excellent video, Thank you so much for all the time you spend making these videos, they are so helpful to all of us! You have given me more information than I have gotten from the trainer we used when our dog spent six weeks in a board and train facility. I greatly appreciate the information.
Gotta love you content. I read your book and did this shaping with my dog and it's been an awesome tool. It's really given my peace of mind off leash and helped increase responsiveness when working my dog.
Awesome video, really clarifies the bits and pieces videos already posted and seamlessly follows your book! Thank you for saving me hundreds and thousands of dollars on private training! Been training ver 20 years, all positive based and this is the best addition to speak dog to my Dobermans!
Half way through the video. Love it ! Not evasive and reward based easy for me to implement. one of my pups is enrolled in a training class using e collar they don't use treats. Every trainer on UA-cam uses treats to help train. I will work pup number 2 your way. Thank you Thank you Thank you
Great video Larry thanks again. I notice the emphasis on Sophia not moving the collar in her hand once you find the working level. Is this something you will check often when conditioning a dog? Could one days working level be different than the next simply because its not in the exact spot each time you put it on? Of course I would attempt to get that same spot but its something I'm concerned about with my golden who's got decently thick neck fur. Thanks!
Hello, I appreciate all you do! Are you always holding down the continuous button or tapping as we hear by the beeps? Not sure when to hold vs tap? Do you recommend the mini or the pro? The pro looks easier to adjust the dial. Do you also recommend E-collar Technologies over Dogtra? Appreciate a reply. Thank you!
Awesome video very easy to understand you coverd all the questions I thought I had. I have a 5month old hound that I love to give its space to explore in our yard but he sometimes gives me a hard time wanting to come back inside . He does know his commands but he thinks he's slick. That's the reasons i bought an ecollar. Anyway , glad I found your video.
Larry, Thanks so much for these refresher videos. I've followed these steps to a T, but my 2-year old Rottie blows off the e-collar at high levels when chasing squirrels, cats, rabbits, and other small animals. In every other distraction situation (kids running around; people riding bikes) his recall and obedience are flawless. Have you seen this before where a dog will blow off the ecollar when in drive? Would it be possible for you to make a video for tips to remedy this situation? I appreciate all you do for those who love our dogs.
John Davison my 2 and 3 year old Rottweilers do the same exact thing. I live in a mountain community and as soon as a rabbit or ground squirrel crosses their view; its game over and the chase is on. We do our off leash walks in the farthest off-road trails and open clearings (the ones I’m pretty sure nobody else knows about as I’ve never seen another person at them or off-road vehicles anywhere nearby) and so I generally just let them have their fun and just bust out some portable speakers to give my dogs something to home in on when they give up the chase. On leash, they do the initial lunge, get checked, and resign themselves to staying with the walk although their full attention is on the last sighting of the wild animals until we are fully out of view.
My pitbull does this in the backyard with a squirrel running along the fence. He completely ignores the collar even on the highest setting. I can tell it's working because I can see his neck vibrate, And I've tried the collar on my self. I dont want to have the him on leash all day or locked up. I just need him to understand not to bring down the fence a squirrel comes by
Awesome video, thanks Larry. 🙏🏼 Sophia is fantastic, but if you could make a conditioning video with an actual dog that’s totally new to e-collars that would be amazing!
This is so timely for me. Thank you Larry and Sophia! Succinct and clear communication and the visual and visual repeats are very helpful to me. I'll be watching again and again. I've read your book through several times in preparation for starting e-Collar with my 1 year 3 mth old English Shepherd. I've trained with clicker/word marker/positive and we are solid on basics so I think good timing for e-collar to tighten things up especially with distraction (deer) on my rural Montana property. Again, thank you to you and your entire family for all good info and your incredible respect and love for dogs.
Hello, Thanks for showing this and explaining. May I ask, Are you always using the continuous button and holding it down or tapping? The beeps we hear are multiple so confused if taping the button or holding down? Also, do you recommend the mini or pro? Looks like the dial on the pro maybe easier to adjust. Is E-collar Technologies the new Dogtra? Would appreciate a reply. Thank you!
So i think ive been doing my dogs e collar training wrong. I am glad i came back to this video, ive now written notes on my phone so i always have it with me and now i will be going back to the beginning to re condition it. Also love the “D.O.G” as a dogs name from sophia. Very funny!!!
I've been thinking the same thing - I feel feel better knowing I'm doing things correctly except for the Recall part - my trainer is helping me train my dog with Recall with the ecollar since my dog will not come to me or my husband at all with treats, nothing. Otherwise, he knows and listens to all other commands. Recall is especially important since he got out of our fenced in yard a couple of times by accident and we were lucky he didn't get hit by a car. So with the ecollar he now listens when I say Come! The first couple times I needed to use the ecollar he definitely got the hint because he did receive a bit of a sensation then of course a reward. To me, it's better than getting hit by a car. I'm also teaching him to go to Place. Not yet for corrections, we are taking it very slow.
So glad I found you as I was looking for quality E-Collar training. You are a gift to so many dogs' lives with your patient and no pain training method. Thanks to Sophia, oops I mean D 0 G too.
Another invaluable video from you, once again. MUCH GRATITUDE! Thank you for loving dogs and ensuring owners do right by them. I purchased the Mini Educator because of your videos. You made the decision easy.

Caitlin W I bought the mini educator and yes it worked great.
You guys are hilarious AND educational. I love you so much! 💖
why do women say shit like this. you don't love him you don't even really know him.
@@brother_dana why do men say shit like this. you do realize love has different meanings, not always literal romantic affection.
Absolutely amazing!!!!! I love your method! I feel confident working with our irish wolfhound pup now that ive watched this and now know we have more work to do before we use the e collar. Thanks for a fantastic video
love how your daughter is your hype man 💓 lmao it’s so pure
Best E collar training video on UA-cam by far
Seriously the best video I have seen on e collars! Thank you soooo much!!
This is the BEST easy to understand e-collar video out there! I totally agree with everything Larry is saying. If you haven’t got his book on e-collar training - it’s a must! 👍🏽🐾
I just got two e-collars and man I’m so glad I watched this first! I was sooooo about to start off wrong…. Thank god! This is so important!
One of the best videos explaining e collar training!
Thank you! This is really helpful. Helped me realize what I have to focus on before starting the e collar.
Larry khron
An example of e collar use that could not have been presented better I have had your e collar book for some time now but so much clicked into place watching this video fantastic job man. You also have such a lovely family.
The 4 dislikes are from the anti skittles crowd... Can't trust those guys 🤣
shawn n some of the dislikes could be from how long he takes to get to the point
You mean 40. Do the math. Counting skittles might help. Dude. You need to understand.
@@mamabird635 I hope you're joking
Haha
😂😂😂
I watched that video just last week and bought your book straight after, very nice coincidence that this has come out just after it arrived.
I learn more from you in a few minutes then others in 1/2 hr - thanks
This is great. I have done so much research to find a good video on introducing my dog to an e collar with no luck. But this one is exactly what I've been looking for.. people underestimate how important it is for the dog owner/trainer to be well educated in whatever they're using.
How grown up Sophia is! Love this and you guys so much! So appreciate all you do for the pups and their owners!
My pup will be 9 months in December and I will be starting to introduce an e-collar. Great video for a beginner like me.
You are incredible! Just finished your book, so excited to start training this weekend!!
Larry...you explain things better than any trainer I've found on YT! Just want to say thank you! Oh and you have a beautiful house too :)
Thank you Larry! I really love that I have a new all in one video I can share with my dad, my dog sitter, and my coworker! Thank you for your videos!
That was excellent. Great way to demonstrate proper use of e-collar. Even a bone-head like me gets it! Thank you!
One of the best training video ive ever seen.thanks man
Excellent video, Thank you so much for all the time you spend making these videos, they are so helpful to all of us! You have given me more information than I have gotten from the trainer we used when our dog spent six weeks in a board and train facility. I greatly appreciate the information.
Sophia steals the show. Very helpful video.
Gotta love you content. I read your book and did this shaping with my dog and it's been an awesome tool. It's really given my peace of mind off leash and helped increase responsiveness when working my dog.
Im so happy about this and other videos from you here. It helps me a lot to understand how an e collar works. Thanks
Thank you Thank you Thank you
Clear and straightforward. Nice work.
Thanks!
This is such a good video
I love how clear and fair it is ..
Sophia is hilarious.
Thank you! I feel more confident in using one of these. Just got them a wk ago and haven't put it on the dogs even... lol This video helped a lot!
Thank you guys! I order one, and I truly want to use it correctly and not crash my dog’s spirit. I am taking the time to fully understand this tool.
I just need him to understand not to bring down the fence a squirrel comes by
This is great Larry! I love it. Thanks for continuing to educate on this amazing tool!
Thank you for all you do for us, you are a benefit to all dogs training
Just shared this on face book. Keep informing..God bless you and your family. 💙🙏
Awesome video, thanks Larry. 🙏🏼 Sophia is fantastic, but if you could make a conditioning video with an actual dog that’s totally new to e-collars that would be amazing!
This is a great antidote to all the bad hype and bad usage happening with e collars.
Thank you!
Thanks Larry. I've used all your videos in training. Keep up the good work.
That’s the prettiest dog I’ve ever seen 😂. Good job Larry and Soph! Good stuff. Thank you for all of your videos.
What an excellent vlog on how to use an e collar.
You made the decision easy.
used this on the kids. major improvement. i only have to talk once. no more screaming and shouting and repeating over and over.
Love this video - I will watch it over and over to reinforce what I need to do. Thank you for your video!
