- We got, not only the opportunity to talk with thrash Metal legend Gary Holt, but take the time to thoroughly go through his rig with his two guitar techs Willie Gee and Warren Lee.
Willie Gee must know the thrash metal sound like the back of his hand if you worked with not only Gary but Dave Mustaine to.
I don't know much about him, but he is considered one of the best guitar techs.
He's been doing this for a long time and he probably plays guitar.
Beat my to it. Everyone that he's worked for praises Willie in Guitar mags. Not many techs out there that regularly recognized
Thinking he may have worked with Chris Poland too.
Not sure about Warren...but Willie will definitely have a job after Slayer. A fucking legend amongst metal guitar techs!!!
This guy tied me up with electrical tape after a Megadeth show one time
willie must be doing double duty. Tech for Dave Mustaine too.
***** - yes, he was off from Megadeth on this run, and Warren was working for Slipknot, but came back on this show...
+DALE97DSM He was also Teching for Andy Larocque from King Diamond too.
I met Willie and he is a very ,super cool guy!
Speaks volumes for the dsl series! I've always thought they were great sounding amps if you take the time to learn the amp and be patient dialing them in.
Willie gee has teched for lots metal bad mofos, big up to willie!
Warren lee was jeff hannemans tech before
Yes
Wow, that Ramstein guitar threw me a little. But very cool rig. I’ve got the Gary Holt GH-600. Great guitar for the money. Funny, in the 80’s I had a Hondo Les Paul copy with Dimarzio super distortion pickups. Loved that guitar. Wished I still had it. Oh, the funny part is I think Gary recorded his first album with a Hondo. Lol . Good shit 🤘🏻
Fuck yeah. Marshalls and a tube screamer....can't go wrong
Cool rig, I will definitely have to look into that ST-9 for my brother's stage left rig, I run a modded maxxon 808 circuit with my Marshall DSL100h/1960a cab for my primary driven tones myself at stage right, love the 808 it's the perfect rock drive for me personally :)
That Richard Z guitar looks sick!
Christopher H - The ST-9 has a HUGE low end - it's like getting hit in the chest w/a sledgehammer!
GodlykeInc I gotta try a tube screamer on my JCM 2000 DSL 100. I use a boss metal zone straight from the guitar, into the front of the amp and get killer tones out of it. The key is to turn the gain off completely, or use just above turned off if you use any gain at all. But you turn the drive up as high asb up can
Willie Gee and Bobby Tongs should write a book together.
And all of a sudden I like my dsl100h allot more.. Lol
I'd like to know his settings...
@@saintrhoads3375 ua-cam.com/video/GlvaYmvyDmk/v-deo.html&ab_channel=PremierGuitar go to the 23:00 min mark
@@band7339 thank you...his settings are strange
@@saintrhoads3375 Yeh I tried them myself on my dsl40cr, just way too smooth and bassy even with a tube screamer for my taste though I'm sure he finds a way to make it work
@@band7339 his pickups probably make a difference
Willie is on point!
Always. :-)
MmMmMmmm Willie Gee guitar tech for Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine I believe or use to be that I remember because Willie Gee was featured on that “Big 4 Festival” dvd for Megadeth. Willie Gee is a well known heavy metal guitar tech.
All my favorite guitarists use Maxon OD's, looks like i need to invest into at least the 808
Ya me to
Aaah, it's an american football helmet on the headstock of that ESP. At first, I thought it was a wireless cam to display on the jumbotron when he's playing.
cool never saw this before.
I thought Willie Gee is MEGADTEH Guitar tech.
+Cave Man Glad you liked it and yes, Willie Gee also tours with Megadeth.
Willie Gee is dave mustaines guitar tech
+iamananimal42 He is.
GodlykeInc
yaah
+iamananimal42 Was Mustaine's tech but not anymore.
Crimson Ghost dont tell me that it's the guy Dave fired and technical embarrassed him publicly
what i heard that was a new guy not willie
Nobody:
Every single person in the comments:
HE WAS DAVE MUSTARDSTAINS TECH!
Why didn't you let the main tech do the rundown?
I saw Willie Gee setting up Dave Mustain's guitar in some youtube videos....
Nice! Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's been teching for Mustaine (on and off) since Rust in Peace.
GodlykeInc Such an hardworking man.....
So he runs two overdrives in the marshall? St 9 and od 808 at the same time?
He uses the OD808 on his board as a lead boost and the ST9Pro+ is on all the time. You can see Gary explain everything here: ua-cam.com/video/UiPkicoUm58/v-deo.html
It seems to me that most guitarists take 5 or 6 guitars with them on tour. I guess that covers the main, back-up, and if catastrophe strikes a third option....
What they did with crowbar ? I don't read it very well.
i wish gary would go back to playing flying v
+hawk6111 I think they are too heavy for his back and knees these days.
+dkyelak Garys Flying V's are actually lighter in weight than the ESP's he has now.
KISSFreak2011 That's what I thought, but I thought he said the Schecter Vs were getting to his knees so he went with the Eclipse. It struck me as odd too.
He said he played Vs for very long time and he just wanted something different, and Gibsons are what he collected but didnt play shows with but then Kirk Hammett made him sign with ESP so thats why he chose the body style.
Gary never never was that heavy into the V. His original guitar was as with Rick Hunold a Strat or a stratlike guitar.
What the cost of all that stuff must be.. mind blown
Strawberry Digital - you can't put a price on TONE...
GodlykeInc Especially not Slayer Tone. The last time I seen them (Sacramento on the farewell tour), they had such an insane tone that it made me buy a Marshall JCM 2000 which I was lucky enough to pick up a DSL 100 for 550 bucks. It was an outside show in a soccer stadium with a very high quality speaker system that was very loud and clear. People could listen to the concert from the parking lot if they wanted. Slayer literally had an evil sound to them that is hard to describe
Warren lee was hanemann tech
22 FRET WILLIE GEE!
cdnpunk heh.... well I think his SIGNATURE one is a 22 fret neck, but if you look at the video, he was using a lot of EC-1000s, which are 24 fret models.... he only had the one prototype for his signature guitar at the time... it may also be the product ( my blurb-mistake ) of video editing - I tend to make a lot of mistakes when I speak!
cdnpunk -I see what ya mean! Yeah... that one is a 22.... DANG!
+sirpazuzu Yeah the one in the beginning was 24 fret. First time I saw him with the 24 fret EC-1000.
D sharp or E flat?
its the same thing
+acdcfan101able They are slightly different but pretty close.
+Tom Moderitz they're the same note.
+Tom Moderitz same frequency, the name changes depending on the key you're playing in. for exemple in c minor it's an Eb, in E major it's a D#. you can't have 2 different notes with the same letter assigned in a scale (or on the same line on a sheet), that's why the same notes have can have different names depending on the key. if you're talking about tuning, it really doesn't matter. the keys of D# major and Eb major are the same thing too, D# is just super impractical to write on sheet music, so you never see it used.
+givemeajackson thanks for the run down.
so he has two signatures with two different companies?
+daniel514ish No, he left Schecter for ESP in late 2014. He hasen't played Schecter guitars live on stage since.
Good tech's must be in short supply.
Isn't Willie Dave Mustaine's tech??? He must really know his shit if he works for Megadeth and Slayer!
Yes, Willie Gee also techs for Dave Mustaine.
Kim Cornell I was just thinking wtf is going on. I know I've seen this guy last summer on the dystopia tour. He was all-over the place and I'm positive it's him. Now I saw your comment
Warren was Jeffs guitar tech.......
+MIKKE RINTAMÄKI Glad he could stay working with another great thrash guitarist.
Warren worked with Jeff i think 8 years
Gary F...... Holt!
Warren lee was the guitar tech of Jeff hanneman ….I think.
Yes, and he stayed on as Gary Holt's tech, when Holt joined Slayer full time.
22 fret not 24
cheese fries
the Bernie rico customs were soo much better than the esps
+hawk6111 I thought Bernie was also Mr BC Rich at one time.
+DaveElectric The had some cool stuff out of their custom shop at NAMM this year. Just sayin'
Very true... they cost more than the vintage ones!
Bernie Rico Jr got sick and shop closed down, I think it still is.
Yeah. Ask seven string.org . Bernie fucked people out of money
Just let warren do it , this is weird
Dave fired this guy
That was a different dude. Not Willie Gee. :-)
In fact, last we heard Willie Gee was on tour with Megadeth in Europe.
Shit, wasn't excpecting an afroamerican in metal world
