Sub Zero Winter Camping IN A HOT TENT in Canada!

  • This time we do some good old fashioned winter camping and bushcraft in a hot tent Bow got second hand. Its an old military 5 man dual layered tent, stuffed inside a princess auto bag. We also had a wood burning stove, also prom princess auto. It was pretty much sub zero the entire trip, but that didn't stop us making some awesome raised beds. It was nice to practice some smaller projects, even though they were perhaps more complex than some of our other bushcraft builds.

      Bushcraft Heroes : You guys are very cool, I am always searching for new Canadian’s channels, and with your shout outs I found quite a few, thanks. I am from northern eastern Ontario. I really enjoys your videos and I started watching the oldest videos, 2 days ago up to the most recent ones ( yep, watch binging...lol). I would say that I am hooked. Will you be making some more? Have a great week.

    It's been THREE months since you have posted this video so I'm just going to go ahead and ask... Did you guys die?
    You would think summertime would be the best time to build up the treehouse camp. You could have built walls surrounding the whole place by now and rebuilt the lean-to and of course added that sheet of aluminum behind the stove in the treehouse.

    Love the video and the stuff that you guys do, but just a pro tip. I used the same model tent with the US military in Alaska for years and it's standard procedure to leave a few feet of open space around the sides of the tent and not packing snow right up to the edge. Due to the canvas and the chemicals used in waterproofing the tent, they can catch fire and burn down in less than three minutes. So with the edges of the tent free of snow, in the event of fire, you can just roll out the sides. Nonetheless, keep doing what your doing, and have fun out there!

    Hi Guys,
    Yea, that princess auto stove from TMS is kinda lame ( I know because I got one ) now for lugging around its OK but the damm door is SO small its hard to get decent size logs in there to hold the fire for very long.
    The advantage of any wood burner vs a propane heater like a Little Buddy is the amount of moisture that propane puts out, so the wood stove is a nice dry heat.
    I still my TMS but take my advice - if yer gonna drag it around and go from place to place use the TMS because of the size and its weight but for a more permanent fixture site like the tree house go look at the CAMP CHEF CS-14 I love mine. However don't buy it from a store like Cabella’s or Bass Pro because they sell direct for less on Amazon and they'll deliver the 85 lbs bastard right to your door! (grin)
    It's slightly bigger but the door opens way more and the stove holds the heat better. Plus it burps less smoke then the TMS stove does because its got a better damper and vent system, plus cooking on the flat top is really much better than the TMS and if you wanna go nuts I can't suggest highly enough - get their hot water tank for the stove - it is so sweet!
    Lastly move the stove jack away from the wall and put it at the peak of the roof so the stove pipe goes up the middle of the tent near the pole, you pick up a TON of heat for the tent from the stove pipe and you use less wood and stay warmer. (the more stove pipe that stays in the tent before it exits up at the peak means more heat in the tent. Use your damper and vent to control the burn rate too …..
    Cheers’
    Dave

  • @jackcooper4150
    @jackcooper4150 4 роки тому

    Learn to open the stove door slow and you will have little smoke coming into the tent. You can also leave the stove door open slightly for a better draw.

      I get it. I'm not working for a year and a half now, but I'm single. I just got disability so I figured I'd help out cause I miss these guys! Thank you for getting back and I wish the best for you and your girls. Just a suggestion but I would start working on a partner because the teen years are gonna suck :) Just kidding (I hope) Sounds like a beautiful life to me but then I'm on the outside looking in :P
