- This video is considered one of my ultimate bucket list items. I wouldn't attempt it until I gained a lifetime experience of winter camping....but the time was right and I picked a major blizzard to test out my skills.
Thanks for tuning in,

These kind of videos is what UA-cam was created for. Loved it.
Here in Alaska. People still call them rides a skidoo no matter if it's a yamaha or arctic cat. Love your shows. Even to re watch them while I'm heading to bed..
There's just not words that describe how grateful I am for taking us along with you on this overnight blizzard adventure. It's greatly appreciated.
Larry
You’re welcome Larry. Glad you got to tune into one of my bucket list items
Hi lovd waching you video thank you from Scotland whud love to try this must be pepel that lern you will staying with them 😅😅whud love to try stay safe letitia from Scotland @@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors
💙🇺🇲 Good move taking the pup-pups back home..your a good doggie daddy! 😅💕
Videos like these make me appreciate my warm apartment. Late September, early October is the latest I've ever camped. Never had the opportunity to camp like this. It's fun to watch. Made me a little chilled. Had to eat spicy Noodle soup and a cup of hot tea.
The first time I tried it years ago, I was quite nervous. Now that it’s been a few years I feel much more comfortable (comfortable enough to try it in a blizzard).
Newfies are the nicest & most hospitable Canadians ive ever met hands down
Chuck, great to see you once again. Oh my God your Toller's a humdinger. Keep well. Many happy adventures. Thanks for the vid.
Chuck, at just after 21 minutes in, when you first went out in the dark after supper, you called your sled a "sleigh"! You're being corrupted by the cool kids! 😂
You will note he was referring to the Pelican Sleigh behind his skidoo here. Not the SkiDoo itself. A sleigh or sled is towed behind a skidoo.
Haha. Dunno if I’ll ever keep up with the times. Hard to teach an old dogs new tricks 😂
We call a snowmobile a “sled” I’m Minnesota… he/she bought a new sled…
That meal looked ..... disgusting 😂

Lol😂, I grew up in Quebec and our Sno Jet was called a skidoo!
Im from manitoba and all i knew called growing up is a ski-doo never heard it called till i was a older adult. I'm 62 years old and I still call it a ski-doo. Sure enjoy your vids keep them coming
This was fun…you’ve got a real nice setup, everything is well thought out, you’re conversational, it was enjoyable to watch. Thanks!
I grew up in New Zealand and outdoor survival in part of our culture. Awesome video. Im living in Scotland we have awesome winter outdoors here as well
I was camping during the winter in home made shelters when I was 13 years old....1974. -25 F sleeping in a lean-to was no picnic! lol I had an axe, army winter sleeping bag my uncle gave me and my back pack with my hunting knife and a ferro rod. Todays bus crafters and more like camping in store bought shelters eating gourmet meals and drinking craft beer....lol
Great tips in this video that I hadn't thought of before. I mostly winter camp at Provincial Parks where we can't cut wood down so I either bring two extendable tent poles to keep my ice shelter from caving in or I set an alarm every two hours to go take a peek at how much has accumulated and then I use my shovel to lightly scrape it off the roof. If I ever get to crown land I'll be using your pole hack for sure! Thanks for taking the time to make this great video, I've recommended your channel to a few friends. I can't wait to get out in another snowstorm!
Excellent Leana - sure are glad you tune in with your experience
What a beautiful dog. Please keep him/her safe.....
oh wait., I see there are 2 and you are leaving them home. Thank you....
Wild game is the best for sure. I learned something off you today Chuck. Those poles to keep the sleeping bag away from the stove is a great idea. I'll add that to my bag of tricks. I love winter camping too. I've used wall tents, and now have a teepee made out of some high tech material. I've been in it with winds up to 90k with no issues, and like you, I use the Winnerwell stove as well. Breakfast looked great, used to have all the time, beans and bologna. Really enjoy your videos. Keep 'em coming!
Tks Johnny buddy. Always great to hear from the Yukon.
Growing up we also called my Arctic Cat a SKIDOO & SLED!! I am with you all the way It was easier to just say Skidoo & sled. Thanks for taking us along in your over night blizzard adventure but I bet your missing your dogs .
I brought the second partridge home to them-I never had the heart to eat it without including them lol.
SnowGo 😊
Thank you for taking your dogs home, I felt so much better for them.
I enjoy when you camp in the ice shack and your tips. another great video! thanks
Thanks Susan. You’ve been following a long time 👍
I'm sitting here in Mississauga Ontario and watching you in the winter wonderland.
We hadn't really snow here this year, well everything is coming in circles this year but we're getting next year.
I'm enjoying your show.
Thanks Michael. Glad you tuned in
Haha it is the same for me...I had different makes and models over the years and we always said we were going out skidoing...it is great to see just how well the eskimo does in those conditions...I bet your pillow made all the difference...great video
Your camping experience is a joy to watch. I subbed right away because I sensed your video would be great. I must enjoy everything vicariously at my age, 75. Years ago my friend told me Nefies like to drink "screech". Thank you so much for your good work. Stay well and safe. From the Outer Banks of N.C USA.
Haha. Screech. Glad you tuned in my friend. Screech is a rum that Newfoundlanders use in a ceremony to make someone an “honorary” member of the province. The whole performance is called “screeching in”. I have only performed one of these ceremonies myself, however, I have seen countless others performed. Ironically, I know no one who actually drinks this rum on a regular basis lol
Good comfy tent and great grub.Chuck you got it made!!
awesome you get a ton of snow we get nothing in the UK great video thank you for sharing
Your channel cost me 40k lol always had snowmobiles on the sporty side but after watching your channel moved on to a skandic & a couple tundras and enjoy poking around and riding around with my dogs 👍✌️
Hahaha. I am hated by a lot of wives for costing their husbands similar amounts of cash 😂😂
I’m from ontario chuck. And I have always called it a skidoo also lol. I have lots of friends that call them sleds. And in my head it’s skidoo lol. Even thought I know I’m wrong also.
Like the video. Could you please make a box, sort of deep, so the other pup can safely sit in there. Not sure if you will be able to see him fly away. The pup in the front is safe, make sure the one in the back is safe too. As you already know they only have toe nails not fingers to grab on. Would appreciate it.
Great video. Thanks. Brings back memories of when I was young and bought a chunk of property in Wisconsin for camping. Now that I'm old, I rough it in a trailer with water and a toilet😊, and plant in my machine shop during the day.
I love this channel. Discovered this by accident. But absolutely love your content. I love the outdoors there is nothing like being out in nature. Sending best wishes from🇬🇧. And you have a new subscriber.
Love watch your videos
Here in NWT it's "snow machine" or just "machine".
Great Video Thanks 4 Sharing Chuck .
Finally getting some snow here stuck on night shift till Tuesday morning hope to get out tenting and fishing next week. Your right how names of things change over time I think we call it whatever we’re feeling at the time . Great video I shared it with my daughter and told her to watch it with the children when she has time waiting for her feed back lol stay safe and we will see you in the next one
Ian
Haha. And thanks so much for the video!!!!! That was so cool to insert lol. My mother thought it was the sweetest thing ever 👍❤️
We call them snowmachines here in new hampshire
Sleds in VT...kinda dumb, lol
162nd COMMENT here from Mr. Garry at GBL-The Ole Church 5 Acre Homestead. Watching to the END! Garry Fudge, from Tucker and I has a similar stove!
That pop up ice hut is soon going to be a igloo. Haha
Almost there!!
Thanks again for sharing, Chuck.
Same thing growing up in very small town New Brunswick 🤣 when it comes to the skidoo and supper
Northern Quebec boy and yes the Sno Jet and Skiroule were always called ski doos. You know how to warm the soul Chuck
Haha love the funny fact. I live in Maine and grew up riding on the snow machine
As a kid in Northern Ontario we called them all Ski doos too.
Really, over around North Bay, we called em snow machines...interesting, I must be ancient lol.
60yrs young and have always referenced "snow machine" instead of snowmobile. MB.Canada 🇨🇦
Great to hear from MB. Haven’t been there yet!
I grew up in Maine in the 70s & 80s not only were all snowmobiles “ski-doos” but you had a ski-doo suits and ski-doo boots! Coincidentally my grandfather helped a local businessman start the first Ski-Doo dealership in town…so at 52 I’m still partial to the BRP products!
Haha. Skidoo suits and boots!! Completely forgot about that!!!
Great Video......
I still call them skidoos, I can't get use to the term sleds. To me a sled is something you tow behind or slide down a hill on. I grew up in Corner Brook but spent many of my summers with my grandparents in Birchy Bay. Occasionally going in boat to Gayside as it was known then. Growing up my father (from Birchy Bay) occasionally use to have a snack in the night time but he called it getting a "Little Lunch". So I guess some of us Newfoundlanders have 2 lunches in the run of a day depending where you are from. Breakfast, lunch, supper and Little Lunch. And of course the Little Lunch is anytime after 9pm.....lol
Lol. I can remember the baytona name change and relate to all you said there bud
Always good to see another newfoundlamder on the tubes.
Take her easy boss.👍👍👍
That was allot of snow in a short period of time. Looked so cozy in the tent with great food. You're fun facts was so true and funny Lol Thanks for the video!
Yep, and I'ze the bayz the builds the boat... More than half a century ago I had a dear friend from Port Au Basque. We were in the RCAF stationed on the Pine Tree Line. Fond memories.
Great to hear about your friend in the RCAF bud. Ps. I’ve heard that song a million times and still can get a room going to this day 👍
Greets from Germany! Sun power in winter: If you let the tent curtains inside OPEN the winter sun coul heat or dry the inside of the tent. No sun no dry.
Also the humidity would be lesser.
Frank, Nato Veteran
Great to hear from Germany! These past few weeks have been the poorest solar-wise I’ve seen it in a long time. Even When there has been sun, it’s a “weak” sun
OK i understand. As a facility manager I love the power of the sun. I would keep the tent inside open to let the sun work for free :-) @@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors
Great tips Chuck! It’s important to stay warm and safety is important too 🔥⚠️…good idea to take the dogs home! Rosie and Ruffles, our 2 dogs agree🐶🐶❤️!
Another relaxing Chuck Porter video!
10:12 - you've inspired me to dig out my Patrick McManus books and read them yet again for the umpthteen time - lol - You've probably read all of Patrick McManus' books, but if not, you will definitely want to😉. Guaranteed! - lol - - -
Calling a snowmobile a "skido" wasn't just a NFLD thing. That's what we referred to all snowmobiles as in Sask when I grew up also. And my buddies & I still find ourselves using that term to this day. The younger Gen now calls them "Sleds" which can also be confusing - lol - Ooooops, I wrote that last sentence before I finished listening to your story, but man oh man can I ever relate to your "Funny Fact for the Day"! - And yes, we call it supper too and I always get confused as to whether people are referring to lunch or supper when they use the term "dinner". For us, dinner was another term for lunch. - - -
28:05 - what kind of lard/fat was that? - - -
Thanx for including us. Very enjoyable and relaxing with my morning coffee.
Havent read patricks books yet - i have so many to read now in the cue....and that was coconut oil
@@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors . . . You will not regret putting Patrick's book(s) to the front of your cue. I promise. Short stories filled with situational humour from outdoor adventures you will definitely relate to; both from your childhood and adult experiences. One book has several short stories that will only take up 15-30 min of your time. I never laughed out loud while reading, until I read his books. He used to write for Feild and Stream before publishing his own books.
I aways will say!!!! It’s a treat to watch your awesome videos!!!!love it….all the best buddy…..
Thanks for your kind words my friend
I hear your accent, it sounds Irish, Canadian, American, so interesting 😊l live in Ireland over 40 yrs
Combo of Irish and English 👍
Thank you for sharing your adventures. It really helps those who can't because of disability.
You’re more than welcome Amanda. Really glad you are tuning in my friend 👍❤️
Great vid ol man! rookie mistake if you didn't throw your sled against a tree so you don't have to digger out.
Only left to upright to show people all the snow that fell. Always turn it “side on” normally. In fact, it’s currently on its side now as we had another dump of snow last night. Beauty thing about those pelican sleds is that are so light it’s no trouble to empty them out
Heard you say "Lok at that, luh!" and instantly was back in the woods with my Dad, checking rabbit slips and trouting. Good times! Thanks for the excellent content.
Nice Video 👍🇩🇪
Back in the sixties and seventies , here in northern Ontario , we also called them ski doos know matter what the brand was.
Lol chuck hello again from alaska, we call a skidoo a snowmachine and we pull sleds behind em. Anyhow good mornin, goodluck an tight lines
Question..where..do you get a behind sled like that..im in NYS and don't see them anywhere ..what is the manufacturer name ..how much
Loved the video! I have a tip for you also. One of the best fire starters we have ever used is Doritos. Just lite a few of them and toss in your wood burner. They catch on fire immediately.
Great tip👍
I was laughing not smiling when you start the Skidoo stroy,, always call those things the same as you LOL Had an Evinrune and an Artic cat ..No Snow here in Nova Scotia but heavy rain abnd winds
Sometimes it’s the simplest things become the funniest things in life lol
Thank you Sir for sharing your experience of the great outdoors. Winter can be tough on people but you sure can make it look pleasant. Take care and as always Get Outdoors...
70 years old Chuck.....northern area we do say sled or snow machine.
We also always said “go fer a ride on skidoo er wa?” No matter the make or model lol.
I have a feeling you guys call it a ski doo is because it's the first machine that got introduced to you guys.
I myself just bought a 1970 ski doo olympique. I was born in 71!😂😅
I think you're right!!
First time viewer. I grew up in central Ohio (born in ‘54) and my faulty memory makes me believe we would start getting snow in December that would get regularly replenished until mid-March. We still get the occasional snowstorm and Canada sends us some bitter cold a few times a year but winter is just not what it used to be, or so it seems. I really enjoy “wintering” vicariously through videos like this and I’ll be visiting your channel again. 👍👍👍
Tks for tuning in my friend.
Sound like where I grew up. Kimberly West Virginia. Tiny little wholesome town.
Awesome video. Love watching you, your family and the doggies. Keep them coming.
Same here in northern ontario . We call all snowmobile Skidoo and sleigh. Even in french we say skidoo and sleigh.
Really? Interesting!
Sure was a good way to spend a stormy night.
I live in Stuart, Ne and we had 17 inches in 24 hours Jan 12 and 3 more inches the next 12 hours . Then - 20 degrees F early Jan 14 . Still in a deep freeze . Today the 16 had above temps of 16 degrees 😁.
Thanks it was great fun watching this video
Snowmachine - not sure if its entirely an alaskan only slang but thats where I heard it from.
Another awesome video as always. Thanks for all the great tips.
I grew up like you, village at best, watching Lloyd n Bryce.
Your doing a awesome job and keeping the Newfoundland Outdoors alive for those of us that love it but cannot enjoy it right now
Tks Tim buddy
@@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors oh and nothing can beat the old 12 elan SKI DOO, indestructible
It’s a ski-doo with a Yamaha sticker on her!!!
New to the channel!! And right at the start you impressed me with your wisdom! I have winter camped for many years, and I ALWAYS tell people to go with someone experienced, or have a way out if your just starting!! Things can go wrong very quick! Exultant vid front to back!! Dan from UPstate New York. P.S....... skidoos here also!! 😁
skidoos there too hey!! wow!! and thanks for your kind words my friend - great to her from NY!! spent a week in albany once a few years back...absolutely beautiful
Like saying Kleenex for facial tissues lol @@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors
Thanx for great tips and for the video Many-people don’t realize how dangerous it can be if not properly prepared for changes in the weather
I was kinda glad this video could show that sudden change in weather. Can come on pretty quick if you’re not watching the forecast and the skies
Nothing like a storm outside and a good fire inside. Cozy is the word for that!! Making me homesick.
We finally got some decent snow so its a proper winter scene here now finally
From the Red River Valley, ND, always snowmobile and supper.
Well Chuck get on your sled and go fishing on the hard water 😂😂😂😂😂 the terms now its Wi-Fi lingo its like im getting on my skidoo and going ice fishing 🎣 😂 and i was so jealous seeing you hiding in your tent in a snow storm 😢 we just got 2 storms back to back one Wendsday night and one Friday night but not the kind we got when we where kids. Thanks for the great video👍
😂😂
Great Story.
Hello brother, I am watching your videos. You provide us with very beautiful images. Thank you very much for this. Greetings to you and your family from the beautiful country of Turkey.🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
Wonderful Ken. Tks for tuning in buddy
@@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors I wish you continued success.
I've got to admit Sleds rolls of the tongue easier 😆 I grew up with Snowmobile or snowmachine in Northern MN
The Ski Doo term is also true for most Albertan's.
Great setup. I enjoy all your videos. I did notice your carbon monoxide sensor is to high. Carbon monoxide is heavier than air and tends to fill the room from the bottom upward. You should place your censor a little lower.
Chuck
Awesome job with your channel, from the content, great camera angles and most of all your humour!
The um um um um ummmm cracks me up and I even catch the wife doing it!
Love your genuineness and how you come across, keep up the great channel! I enjoy putting your channel on while working in my shop or in the kitchen, keeps me close to home!
Thanks again
Dion Hancock
Tks bud. Glad you’re tuning in dion
Love your "Funny Facts" hope you do more in your videos.
I certainly will. Tks for tuning in my friend
Thx Chuck, looks like a very relaxing time...haven't snowed much at all here still across the straits...can't even get out at the logs on skidoo now.
Back in Northern Ontario, we used to call em Snow Machines....way back when.
Not sure how "sled" came about either.
Cheers buddy.
MM, mm, mm, mm, Mhm.
Haha. You have it down pat!!!!
Thats interesting to hear, I've never known if anywhere else outside Alaska calls them snowmachines(one word here). They are snowmobile in the mainland USA, or as far as I know anyway.
@@akadventurer7563 that's just about the same thing I thought when I read your original comment. Whether or not it all one word or not, how times have changed. Living here in Newfoundland now it's..."goin' out on ski doo".
One thing for sure, the technology has come a LOOONG way since I owned my first 440 Rup Nitro. Couldn't keep the sliders welded up on it...but it went pretty good....on the lake
@@jimeverden2244 Haven't hard that name in a while, not many remember or have ever heard of Rupps. First machine I ever rode growing up, was a '69 Rupp, that my dad bought when they came to Alaska in 74. They used to for years homesteading before he got a "modern" 82 Yamaha.. I really miss that Rupp, and the newer one I got after, an 85 Yamaha.
Times and tech have indeed changed.
I don't think I'd ever want a big one like Chuck has, after having the old ones, anything in the past 20 years is too big and heavy, I grew up being able to physically pick them up and put them in trucks, get unstuck etc.. They're all too huge now.
@@akadventurer7563 yes, that was back in '75, still in high school. My best buddy had a yammy ice racer, can't even remember the cc's on it...I'm thinkin' 440 but....
We thought that thing was rank, went like stink, for those days.
Shortly after that Kawasaki bought snojet and their claim to fame was, they were winning all the grass races.
I have an Expedition now, not a Super Wide, like Chuck's but yeah it's friggin' heavy. I can still move the back end around and give a ski pull when required lol. If you get these bad boys stuck your doing something really wrong and you better hope your buddy has a good back.
I think we just gave it away. We're older than dirt lol.
Thx for the walk down memory lane, friend.
So true on fun facts. Back in the 70’s-80’s we always said going skidoo’ing now it’s sledding or what kind or sled did ya buy? Good times.
Awesome video as usual Chuck, and you're right there's something about being out there in the tent , out in nature, it's just peaceful to the core. I got a good chuckle about the ski doo , slay, sled conversation because I actually had a similar post going few weeks ago about all being ski doo , you jumped it with the sled and slay lol. I can't keep up with the terms , I'm definitely stuck in the 80s lol.
Haha. Me too bud
First timer here. Enjoyed your video very much. Thank you! Much love from Utah ❤!
Great to hear from Utah!! (A lot of people here working in the iron ore mines visit Utah for training sometimes)
Chuck it's a good thing it's almost supper time when I'm watching this, you're making me hungry. Another great video my friend, and I can't wait to start winter camping here, but more rain coming tomorrow... Oh well, no sense worrying about it. Perhaps a hike, hunt, and boil-up is in my future.
Thanks bud. I’m sure you will occupy your time in the woods like you always do. Love your videos my friend 👍
In Qc we French canadiens still call them skidoo and sled and we say supper aswell 😅.
Yup, here in the Ottawa Valley, Renfrew county all those “fun facts “ were very factual as I grew up, and agree 100% now that I think of it, funny for sure.
Those pups I am sure are looking out the window for your return.
We just got a dump of snow overnight and was out snow blowing early AM. Just heading out again to clean up the last 6 hours of off and on snow fall.
Great relaxing video Chuck, take care!
Tks victor my loyalest subscriber! We had yet another dump of snow last night so I will indeed be clearing snow again today
Awesome! This reminded me of when a group of us teens stayed in lean-to kinda shelter as a part of our cadet program at the camp near Brinco Bridge just outside C Falls. Burrr 🥶
Great videos, we love your content!
Thank you my friend. Glad you got to experience the lean-to. 👍
I'm from near Liverpool UK and we whilst not having the need for motorbikes on skis called them skidoos! 😂
Same here Chuck. Skidoo all the way. I will never call them Sleds. No matter the make, they are all skidoos. Like you, I ride skidoo brand but it wouldn't matter. Looks cozy in the tent.
Hard to change some things hey Stephen. If i called it a sled I’m sure everyone in the room would turn and stare as it would somehow sound ridiculous coming from me lol.
Awesome video. Looks fun. Stay safe.
I've also heard guys calling their snowmobile a 'boggan'.
Florida boy here! Ya'll are crazy in the best way. Skiidoo b dooby doo!!
lol. Thanks for the chuckle my friend
