    I watch all you videos, but never comment. Today, was the first time I realized how much I miss the days you aren’t hiking! You guys bring me joy in a sad time of my life! You’ve brought back the perseverance I must have lost along the way. As you struggled up those mountains, You reminded me of a saying I used to love: “If you are in a hole, then quit digging!” Today, I see the sun!!! Thank you!!!

    Wow, what a climb ! At that height on Hope Pass at 12,500 feet, you were higher than the top of Mt. Hood in Oregon and that takes determination and guts. Take good care and keep on acclimating. Good thoughts from your Oregon Buddy.

    I completed the East portion last week and I know what you mean about the elevation. I didn't get sick but catching my breath was difficult. Even though we live at 6000 feet 11k+ elevation is still challenging. I wish I could have done the whole loop but I couldn't take off the time from work. Looks like I'll have to come back next year and finish the West. Oh, and The Rooster Crow Cafe in Buena Vista is fantastic. Try the eggs Benedict Alaskan.

    Missed you. Did you leave your truck and are you circling back to that spot? You've had some wonderful trail angels taking care of you. Sorry you all are experiencing altitude sickness, that must be terrible. Yet, you keep going! I use that inspiration to keep me going when I feel like stopping. I liked Lynn's line, "I'm the pitifullest". I also agree with Annette that sometimes it's harder to go downhill. The moose were a nice surprise, haven't seen much wildlife. I hope you feel better after your days rest stop. See ya down the trail. Take care, be safe.

    If you are trying to train for the Sierra’s, what you are doing will help. Everyone feels like that at first. It takes a day or so to get used to it. I grew up n the mountains so altitude doesn’t bother me in general. But over 10,000 ft I need a little time to adjust so I don’t feel like I have lead in my shoes. But nice Lynn is getting to do a part of the CDT she couldn’t do last year. And in summer so it’s not as blustery. She m so glad you could find an alternate adventure. Thanks so much for posting

    Maybe it was changing elevations so many times in a short period of time?... including the plane? I live in the Smokies and when I have a day at being up high, then down low, then up high again...several times...it makes my ears pop and crack for several days. It doesn't happen if I just go up high for sunrise and then back home. I dunno...just a thought.

    I just completed Segments 20 & 21 at roughly the same time you all were doing this. I have to tell you, watching this and knowing that you all struggled makes me feel just a tiny bit better. ;-) This is year six for me segment-hiking the CT with my dogs (driving from TX), and it's been the hardest year yet, physically. I've got exercise-induced asthma and really struggle on those big climbs at that altitude. I can feel the oxygen going straight to my legs. It's nuts. But I basically have the same attitude as Annette: "You gotta work yourself through it. Or die." ;-)
    Watching you all do Hope Pass and Lake Ann Pass again brought tears to my eyes. There's a very tangible sense of accomplishment that comes with doing something challenging and worthwhile. That kind of determination and beauty changes a person.
    Btw, you all are the cheeriest 'most pitiful' ladies I've ever met. Much love.

    I have a hard time with altitude a friend posted this so going to try and see if it helps”I grew up at 8000 ft, and lived in Colorado for decades. Now I live below 3000 ft. Every 2+ week trip to CO starts like this: day 1 drive to 7500 ft, spend 36 hours, day 3 drive to 10000 ft, spend 2 nights & 1 day doing minimal exertion, day 5 do a relatively flat hike, up to 4 miles & sleep at 10000 ft, start regular hiking with load & elevation gains on day 6.” Could be you just haven’t had time to adjust with time off and multiple changes to your plan. I will be interested to see if you are feeling better by day 6! You guys rock!

    Dexamethasone in a dosage of 4 mG every 6 h is an effective treatment for altitude sickness AMS, but the illness may recur with abrupt discontinuation of the drug. Talk to your PCP about getting a prescription before your next high altitude trek.
    Coca leaves tea also seems to help. It’s strange how AMS affects people differently.
    At 6,000 feet it takes about 14 days to acclimatize and above 8,000 ft 28 days. I understand you lose acclimatization after two weeks at sea level. There are several experts on this topic at the OTC in the Springs. Perhaps you could interview one. See you down the trail.

    I know the smoke didn't look too bad, but I wonder if that was part of your breathing problem. I haven't been able to hike much this summer because of the smoke. I've had a hard time breathing at 5 to 8 thousand ft.

    • @ekimpp
      @ekimpp 3 роки тому +1

      High altitude makes lack of oxygen so breathing becomes harder to deliver what body needs. I don't know how you girls did. Fantastic job! Thank you for taking us on your journey to fight against maturing! Wish I could hike with you...Love choice of your music.
