Trust me when I say that I show my age as today is my daughters birthday... double nickels so ya... kinda show the tired lines.. first time, did the subscribe..... I think this kind of painting has been around as long as me and its addicting as heck. My mentors now long gone got me started in the late fifties... I took a chance worth dying for and did dads hood on his car with the lace and he about s**t a brick at first but when other people asked how much did it cost and where can I get that done, it was home free. I didn't have money for J.C. Whitney catalog decals so did as much cartoon work as possible as it was the rage then. Also love the art work on you... thats been around since Jesus and will always be
When I was little, my dad had a body and custom shop so my early (formative ??) years where spent in and around body and paint (long before OSHA. Ah, the smell of lacquer in the morning.) I am not much of a rat rod fan but I think it is great when someone takes on a DIY project like this. It looks like you will have a truck to be proud of when your done.
My dad dit that to a gals car back in the 70’s went from a white on the bottom to a light pink with the lace completely covering the car. Beautiful piece of work.
Steve, the lace worked out great. I was doing lace painting and panels back in the 70's in my own Shop here in Eakly, Oklahoma. They say the effect was first discovered when someone was testing a spray gun pattern and happened to paint over some lace cloth used for cleaning. It took off from there.
Looks awesome if you're having trouble with sand papers Gumming up, it's not fully cured. Let the paint fully dry. And a trick i use it a wet Magic Eraser it works better then sandpaper or try it after light sanding.
Looks like a fun project. I've been thinking of doing something like that on my 40. You mentioned LS fab out of Edmonton, are you out of Edmonton as well? Maybe we'll see you out there. Cheers from S.S. Edmonton
Very smart to notice. It sucked. It is pinstripe which I should have used thin tape. I figured vinyl pinstripe would be a crisp line, which it was. But there is 1/8” or 3/16” tape that would have been better. Lesson learned on my part
Wow that came out way better than I expected I bet your pumped cause I know what its like to diy an there's been ups an downs in diy but props bro that's killer
@@ranknfileforge204 I think if you watch the new documentary film on the Shifters kids (not kids anymore) the term will make sense. I forgot what the name of the film is, but Hemmings produced it

Thanks, it was a fun process. My dad used to paint his motorcycles with lace in 60’s so I thought it fitting to carry it on. Thanks for the subscribe
Great job…. Keep up the good work
Not a custom paint guy then smashes it😅 Amazing results, love it!
Thanks
I have always loved the lace on the roof. I always thought it would be cool to find some lace that has spider webs and roses and spiders.
Actually I saw some lace like that on Amazon when I bought this lace
Very very nice!!! I love the reveal when you pull the lace off. I usually don’t say that to guys. Lol. Great job bud.
Thanks, I wasn’t sure how it would look, never know till you peel the lace off
Truck looks good as a total package. Good job.
Thank you sir
Wow. Awesome job Steve looks great!
Thanks, pretty proud of it
I'm speechless!!!
Thanks!!

That is so awesome. My dad used to paint his old Triumphs with lace back in the 60’s. More of a tribute to him and his work on choppers

I'm in Tennessee but I would love to attend one of these classes
As an amateur myself, I would definitely benefit from taking a few classes myself.
Looks cool.
Thanks!
Would look sick on the fenders or side skirts❤
I did think of trying it on the fenders a bit
@@ranknfileforge204 tbh just cover the whole car and she's mint.🙏😍 But I'm gonna try it out on my hood and chassis rails first

You didn't let the paint cure long enough that's why you're sand paper was gumming up on you
@@kentpigeon-rs4cm yeah that’s what I figured. Usually it is dry overnight, but maybe humidity was high garage??

Thanks, glad it worked out, or I would be sanding it down!! Lol

I looked on Amazon but didn't find big lace like yours. Can you add a link to it in your description? Thank you.
I just went in and added the link to my description. Cheers
Good job. Subbed. 😊
Thanks. I am happy with it for sure
How dry was the paint when you pulled the lace off? Thanks, great video!! I’m subscribed
I waited till the paint flashed. Probably 15-20 minutes. Basically just dry to the touch
@@ranknfileforge204 thanks
What brand is that slim blue tape you used? Because, I can tell after watching you twist and peel it, that I don't ever want to use it.....LOL!

@Rank n File Forge - You obviously don't know the true original meaning of "Rat Rod" .
Hmm, I feel I do, and if I am wrong, that’s ok. I like the truck I am building.
Be nice.
