Yes this is the why we like to chew it ( not letting people
See it) and get the most of its taste. Thanks so much.

I have always wanted some ideas on how to cook this. I’ve seen it in the stores but never eaten it in the pod form. Only as a powder or a tea. Thanks so much for this recipe

I am from South India (Kerala, in fact). We use moringa fruit in sambar, fish curry and several dishes. There is a better way to eat it other than chewing. You have to split the pieces length wise before cooking. When eating, bite lightly in the middle and pull with two fingers. Repeat on other side . Lo, the pulp is in your mouth and the woody outer portion is in your hand, which you can drop in your waste plate. Of course, you have to eat with your hands, not a spoon and fork.

Does it mean, it doesn't matter if the moringa drumstick is a bit old because you only eat the seeds?
Is there any recipe where the drumstick needs to be young and you eat the pod as well?
I am not sure how to determine when to harvest the drumsticks..
Thanks for your channel, it's great!

    • @HappyBellyfish

When the Mohringa gets too thick and turns darker in shade it's a sign of it getting dry and old. The seeds will be bigger and will remain hard even after cooking. It won't taste as sweet as a tender one. We chew the drumstick and seeds and spit the fiber out as it is too hard to digest and also too hard to swallow.

This was my question as well since I just pruned and harvested a bunch of leaves and drumsticks off my moringa tree I planted this summer (Florida zone 9b). I think my drumsticks are too mature - some are not yet dried, but are past the early green stage, oh well. Now I know to harvest the green ones because this recipe looks FANTASTIC, thank you sir! 😊👍👊

I don't bother peeling them, I just scrub them and cut them short enough to do your second "beast mode" method. Vegetarian chicken wings 😂

Do you live where it’s warm? Ilwe can grow these in AZ. It will grow really tall very quickly. I don’t think they can live where it snows though.

I almost died after cooking the drumsticks!
I washed, cut off outer peel, cut into smaller pieces, cooked very well, also sautéed them in butter/garlic sauce- chewed them, very woody taste but still like eating wood and could no get them down. Then I really started to get sick..!vomit up, etc. I dry the leaves, into caps
    and no problems or tea.

    • @theflamingone8729

Just chew them, suck the pulp out and spit out the fibre. It's messy, like eating prawns or chicken wings.

Very nice, to find out, that Drumsticks, i've eaten in Sri Lanka, when i was living there in the 80's, are Moringa. I know this plant, only that Moringa powder is made from.
What a shame, that this vegetable is not possible to buy in Germany.

I bought Moringa as a powder. In start it was ..ok, I drank it in milk . But ,after only when I smell it,I feel sick from the taste and smell. Is it BCS I did not cook or drink it to be tasty ? Thx

    • @HappyBellyfish
