In this video I react to Bent Knee, In God We Trust.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician on the road at age 17 for two years, but went part-time ever since while holding day careers including as a chef and in spiritual health care while raising a family.
I've recorded hundreds of my own songs- many being used in media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I abandoned the prog genre more or less back in the 1990s but have returned to it now with vigour a full 30 years later- so much prog I've ignored and quite frankly didn't have any idea about. My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electric as well).

Bent Knee is so underrated. Catch Light by them really impressed me. It's incredible how heavy they can be.
The vocalist grew up in Japan until high school, so I feel the influence of traditional Japanese music on her singing style. She won a local karaoke tournament when she was in high school.
To me Japan is such a different culture, I'm really appreciating the input you offer due to your insights
So happy you're doing Bent Knee Dean! They really deserve much more attention. Not that they're for everyone, but so many starts to love them once they come in contact with their music. Truly progressive and so intense and moving (try e.g. Being Human studio live @Hand Forged Works and be prepared for emotion out of this world...)
Bent knee is certainly one of the bands which made a huge impact on me! Great band and great vocalist! I suggest Holy ghost, Being human or Catch light if you want to continue exploring them..
Yup! My favourite contemporary band and my favourite vocalist of all times. Nothing moves me like them and they are truly progressive! Theese studio live sessions of theirs are just so damn good!❤
Bent Knee - Being Human
Bent Knee - Terror Bird
🤘
Yes the audio tree live version of terror bird is amazing
Very cool. Seems like it’s right up my alley. Think I’ll have to delve into this one. Thanks for the intro!
Have a nice ride/dive! 😊
THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
Battle Creek, imo, is their most "moving" song if that's your jam. I absolutely love this band.
WHAT
A
VOICE.
Goosebumps.
The singer sounds a little bit like Susanne Sundfør, but it works so well in a prog environment. So powerful!
Speaking of powerful female prog singers with vibrato. Have you heard Moon Honey? If not, the first album especially is well worth a react (try "The Two Fridas" or "The Ship"). It's sort of Mars Volta meets Hendrix meets Genesis meets vocals like you've never heard before.
Sounds interesting
Theres so much more! Live videos there are four concerts. (trust me) my fav.
Yes!!! Bent knee is quality music...
their music is genuine and moving and they sounded exactly like this live in Sacramento.
“Being Human” would be a great follow up to this song (from the same album)
Yes! This was live and I suggest doing Being Human in the live studio version as well
Agreed. The live versions are always best with this band and there are so many of them on YT.
Bent Knee is incredible...super underrated and unique. There's really just no one else like them out there.
This was live btw.
ok good
Man, this was probably one of their less impressive live performances. The latest album had several live videos that are simply unbelievable. Literally any of them.
And that’s saying something because this was pretty great... but I agree each song from the “big nice studio” session is perfect!
@@DexterGrohl exactly. I still love their older performances but they have been improving so much with time that if it continues, they'll eventually be the sassiest and most fun live band in the world by a mile.
Actually... they already are.
One of my favorite bands! A reaction to Terror Bird or Being Human would not disappoint. Their newest album is also incredible. I saw them live just prior to Covid in December of 2019, amazing live!
Oh thank God you got to Bent Knee 😆
LOL!
YES! 😍
My favorite bent knee songs are bone rage & holy ghost & catch light & being human
Saw Bent Knee open for Haken/Leprous a few years ago. Not my cup of tea (I like heavier music) but the talent is clearly there.
Plus, they have a song named 'Battle Creek' !!!
I saw that tour in Philly. They were certainly different. Not my first choice, but I've definitely heard worse.
Two things- this sounds like it should be in a broadway play. Second, the guitarist looks like the guy who is part of the composition collabs with Adam Neely. If I'm right, that's Ben Cohen?
Yep, Ben Levin 👍
@@carpenoctem5184 Hey, I was close!
One of the most unique bands I've heard in years. This song is probably a good place to start to give you the idea what they're about, but it's far from being their best song. Battle Creek has been mentioned. Also try Give Us The Gold, Holy Ghost or Sunshine.
my boy ben ♥
Should change the channel name to 'React'', though 'Lessons' are listed first.
The channel is naturally evolving. I didn't do any reacts for a long time, then lately-the last year that is, that's what I do most.
@@deanwolfechannel Well, good luck with it. Unsubbed because I really don't see the "react" point but that's me. All the best man!
I love this band but they make me too upset!
how so?
When i first listened bent knee it was shock and i like. But later on lack of vocal dynamic and relentless vocal runs made me blacklis them. Too bad their music is really interesting but hard to listen with the lead vocalist relentless undynamic vocal runs. It's a matter of taste tho. I bet most bent knee fans love the vocals.
She can sing soft and emotional when she wants to, like on Battle Creek and Sunshine - the opening verses at least... but yeah she is a bit too intense for some.
Someone doesn't know how to play a violin. LOL!
Stradivarius is turning in his grave!?
