Super surprised to see this band but I'm very happy. Bent Knee are one of my absolute favourite bands rn, all the members are super talented and they're also all great people. I would also like to point out that the video you watched was actually a live performance, and having seen them live myself, (with Haken, what a gig!) I can attest to the fact that they really do sound that good live.
Yes Courtney Swain's a ridiculously good vocalist, and YES, she is spot on like this at live shows. Bent Knee is an incredibly diverse band in sound too, one of those bands where you can take any two songs and they sound quite different but at the same time still sound like Bent Knee. This is also why it's hard to suggest a follow up. They've got poppy, sludgy, weird and fuzzy. So glad to hear another person giving them a go though, they still aren't circled about nearly as much as they should be.
So true! I requested (and paid for) Being Human (Live at Hand Forged Works) as a follow up. (Chance is someone already requested it before me in queue but I recon I'll get an alternative request in that case and then I'd go for the Sunshine "cover" live (it's so altered that it's much more than a "cover"...)
Bent Knee! What a pleasant surprise! Saw them live for the first time with Haken last year. They are better live than on the albums tbh. They have alot of experimental stuff.
Bent knee is tremendous, they do a live cover of “you are my sunshine” that is pretty intense. If there was an “epitome of” song for this band, it’s probably “Being Human”... they are so diverse in what they bring to the table and as they say “it’s all good”.
I saw them on tour with Thank You Scientist and hadn't heard of them before that. Amazing live - they create suuuuuch ambiance and environment with the music and her voice.
Dude this band is so incredibly good, I'm glad you're on them now. I heard you ask what they're like live. It's like hearing in 5D. You can smell the drums and taste the vocals. And they're so much better live than recorded even though their albums sound amazing.
Same. Caught them in Prague. That was my first run-in with Bent Knee. Spent their whole set looking for my jaw that dropped when they started playing. Been a fan since.
This song was from their 2014 album "Shiny Eyed Babies", and the UA-cam video for it was uploaded in 2015, shortly after, to support the release. They have released 5 albums total, SEB being the second. Their first is admittedly a collection of demos, but one of the songs from it has a ripping guitar solo that I love. When I saw them live, they played mostly songs from their latest album with a few interspersed from previous albums. Courtney, the main vocalist / keyboardist, sounded totally studio-quality, and you could hear everything from Jessica's bass to Chris' violin. I have to say though, Ben Levin, the guitarist, was an amazingly nice guy and probably spent an hour just talking music nerd stuff after one of the shows. He's incredibly humble, and a total genius too. He has a great youtube channel as well. I remember thinking it was insane that I was able to NOT ONLY hear such great music, but also witness such great musicianship, in such an intimate, close setting. They're a really unique and awesome band - I'm really glad you dig em'! Next request I send in will definitely include more Bent Knee ;)
Bent Knee is ridicolously underrated. So much creativity! And yes, Courtney is something else. I kindly suggest lovemenot live at Big Nice studio if you want to hear her do crazier thing with her voice. Catch Light is another personal favourite
I didnt meant to say 'all time;. I meant currently. and Considerably. They have 5 or 6 solid full live shows. Id love to get my hand on the real live stems because i can tell some compression... pluss youtube.
I was listening to this song and thought, "Shit, he should react to this!" Do a search and it turns out you already have. If you haven't had a chance to see them live yet, make sure to do it. I saw them open for Leprous and Haken. Easily the most stacked show I've ever seen
@@captainmorgan1978 I have not. They're so long that I keep looking at them and saying, "Ehhhhh. Later when I have more time." I assume Arch Echo is in a top 40 vid? Now I've gotta watch.
I've discovered them half a year ago. They have quite a few very very good live sessions on yt. But this song is not a glimpse what they can do, they have a few songs with wild compositions and overall music mastery. Try 'Holy ghost' by them
Took me a minute to find it as I am horrible with song titles and singer/band names...but found it! ua-cam.com/video/UwaBoX97PbQ/v-deo.htmlsi=jGdgFFDra-Q0tR4a

Thanks for the request Thomas! Great, great, great pick!!!
Black Tar Water is one of my favourites from this band. Also Ben Levin (the main song writer/guitarist for the band) is a funny dude.
They are my favorite band! Im going to see them live tonight. Check out thier live concerts on youtube!
I just watched Adam Janzis video of them in Denver playing... Was great! Have a great time and VOLA is killer too!

STILL THE GREATEST FUCKING BAND IN THE WORLD
Did you see them with VOLA?
What is the video at 11:26 an extract from? From that short sample, it seems like I'd like that!

I think this video is "the live version", actually - this isn't like the studio version.
Yeah its a studio session. So apart from maybe a few tweaks to the equalizer n stuff, its all raw.
Kourtney is one of my favorite vocalists. This made me really happy. Thanks man more bent knee
