    My two honey gouramis just started breeding today! Love these fish! they’ve really helped improve the tank ecosystem and also made it much more interesting now that my fighting fish has slowed down due to his ever growing tumor. Your video encouraged me to get these little cuties, great advice as always thankyou 😁

    Honey Gouramis are one of my favourites. I like your submissions: short and to the point. If you want the fry to stay in the tank during a water change, you need to screen the *inflow* end of your syphon tube, not the outflow. An air stone works well in preventing ingress, or a wad of sponge.

    So I planned on getting a honey Gurmani today and I went to the fish store and my blind eyes managed to make me get a normal dwarf gurmani and I didn’t notice till I got home 😭😂😂 there’s no fish in my 70litres )I think that’s 19 gallon or something ) so I Hope when I put my corydoras in in it won’t be aggressive but if it is i will get a female to neutralise that 😭
    It was a bit annoying 😂

    Hey, I watched this first aug 19 when my honeys bread in the 200L community tank I had just finished stocking (6 zebras danios, 6 Corys, 3 bristlenose plecos, 4electric blue rams 4HGs(1f3m, intended to be 2f, 2M). Unfortunately a lot of the fry didn’t make it due to the mean hungry Danios. I failed to catch the Danios to segregate and didn’t wish to scare off the HGs. Only 2 fry survived and sadly one passed away recently (I think due to stress of water flow... which I didn’t realise coupled with not sufficient enough water changes (I screwed up the math and was doing 10-15% instead of 20-25% weekly... I thought the tank was a 100l for some reason). Anyways how long do you think it takes for them to be fully grown? The lone survivor (suspected F) is currently around 9 months old.

    can a female honey gourami be yellow as the male?
    Apperently I have a couple of honey gourami and they've been kinnda hugging to breed, but I still doubt if the female is actually a male, as her colors are almost as strong as the male, ans she even has a bitt of black in her bottom fin.

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  5 років тому

      Hmm, the yellow-type female gouramis I saw at the store were yellow, but they didn't have any black on them, were bigger than the males, and also had a faint brown horizontal line down the middle of their bodies. I think the key deciding factor for you might be the pointy vs. rounded fin tips. Hope that helps!

    Can the female fish stay with the male instead of taking her out after fry are born Some people only have 1 tank

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  5 років тому +2

      It would be hard on both the parents if the female stayed around since the male _really_ doesn't want her (or anyone else for that matter) near his babies. If you only have 1 tank, you could always buy a 5-gallon plastic tote as your breeding and fry grow-out tank. Once the parents are done with their breeding responsibilities, they can go back to your main tank and then the fry would be raised in the tote. Here's a short video on how I set up a cheap quarantine/fry grow-out container: ua-cam.com/video/Z8WMVVT4b7I/v-deo.html

    I didn't get the fry food for the first few days, now they are a week old and 35% is still alive, will some make it?

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  5 років тому

      Probably! The first two weeks are the most critical times; afterwards, the surviving fry are the biggest/hardiest and tend to do well. Best of luck to ya!

    They need high humidity???
    They're in water. It doesn't get any more humid than that.

    • @laylaflame
      @laylaflame 5 років тому

      They breath at the surface though with a special organ called a labyrinth organ. So high humidity would be important in that aspect.

      @GirlTalksFish  5 років тому

      What she said. :) Babies still have developing labyrinth organs, so the high humidity is more important to them (from what I've read).

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  5 років тому +1

      Oh man, it took forever to find them! I called around to all the local fish stores and one of them happened to have a big batch of male and female wild type gouramis. They were surprised when I only wanted the females because most people just want the males for the color. :)

      Yes! I have checked every local store, no one carries the females! I’ve even looked online. I just can’t bring myself to pay the online shipping fee, not for one tiny fish. Well, the hunt continues. As always, I enjoyed your video and I appreciate your reply!

    How to identify the male and female honey gaurami

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  5 років тому +1

      It's pretty easy! In general, males are more brightly colored, have a black/dark blue abdomen when they're in breeding dress, and have sharper points to their fins. Females are rounder/bigger than males, have paler coloration, and have rounded ends to their fins. Hope that helps!

    My male honey gourami is chasing the two girlfriends I gave him pretty aggressively. Your video doesn't mention this behavior...is it possible he's not a fan of his new tankmates?

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  3 роки тому +1

      Interesting! That has never happened to me before. Is the tank too small or is there not a lot of cover?

      @@GirlTalksFish they actually just upgraded from a 20 long to a 29gal (consider it a honeymoon gift) but the plants have definitely not grown in a lot and the three gouramis might all be competing for the same hiding spots. That said, he has his breeding dress going pretty brilliantly (my baby boy grew a beard! And it's bluish black!) So I will keep an eye on things. If anything interesting happens I'll share it here for ppl to learn :)
