I was so poor I used to cut out toys from magazines n played with them :,( now that im grown I bought a ps5 xbox x and a gaming pc. And so many more consoles.
Most underrated console of all time. It had it's flaws, of course, but it was still impressive for the time. Seems obscure, but it was able to go online, which was a massive deal at that time. The controllers were one of a kind and innovative. You'd never think it was one of the products to tank the company. It was solid competition. Too expensive and too small of a library was what sealed the coffin.
Sega was deep in the red before the system launched, it was of no fault of the system as it was the best Sega ever made and it’s library was huge quilalitt title in one and half year of full support got more games than the Wii U

Cool thing is with the vmu if you are playing any resident evil you can see the character health if the vmu so you don’t have to pause to see your status, that why Inlive the dreamcast
If you’re talking about the US release then it came out in 9.9.99 yes it had a VMU but it didn’t come with anything you had to buy all the accessories. The Jump Pack was definitely a cool thing to have

It didnt come with a VMU either. I recall standing in Babbages with my dad, after having saved up money for over a year from allowances and chores to buy the console. Dad said he'd buy me a game, and I picked Sonic Adventure. Then the guy behind the counter said "You are going to need a memory card." Damn things were almost as expensive as a game! I went home with the console and SA1, and then replayed the beginning of it for two months until I could get a VMU.
Don't Forgot, This console Used to Have Half-Life 1 but, It got Cancelled. The game was suppose to make The Dreamcast Popular but The Console got Discontinued. Half-Life got a PS2 port instead.

the only memorie i have of this even though im only 13 was that when me and my brother were like 4 or 5 my grandma used to have one. we never ever played it and thought it was just a weird roku or something. but one day me and my brother were playing outside when i like broke something in my arm. i couldn’t feel or move it and it hurt bad. my grandma had to put it in a old used cast while she went and told my mom about it. my uncle then showed me the dream cast and games on it. i couldn’t move my arm one bit but i could still play the dreamcast.
I love the Dreamcast and regret selling mine. Using a breakout box and VGA connection made the picture crisp as hell. And the games were superb. Still can't understand why they let the Headhunter franchise go. Really dug both those games.

I was 6 when I got the dreamcast in 1999 and my favorite games are crazy sonic adventures, crazy taxi ,phantasy star online and my top favorite is Gauntlet legends.
I remember NFL 2K game save taking up about 98% of the available space on the VMU. I don’t miss those days of having to sacrifice one save for another.
The Dreamcast was competing with the PS1. (And blows it out of the water) While the PS2 was being worked on, it wouldn't be released until the Dreamcast was already dead. You can't compete with a product that doesn't exist/hadn't been released. The Dreamcast was a gem. And Sega of Japan killed their console game. Still wanting to focus on replicating the "Arcade Experience" that, while still relevant in Japan, had died out in North America. (Likely why the Neo Geo lasted so long in Japan) As well as being jealous over their US departments success.
That’s another reason I like Dreamcast controllers better than N64 controllers you don’t have to choose between saving your game and having rumble in your controller because the N64 controllers only had one port built in until the brawler controller with the rumble mode built in as well as it’s wireless
Also another thing of the dreamcast was their joystick. It used a special type of technology that used magnets and field sensors to determine inputs rather than the standard like potentiometer style. Meaning there's no drift that can occur from use.
That explains why Dreamcast games feel so good added with the crispy texture and image quality it still looks great, i hate when casuals critique the hard plastic and compare to to other thumb sticks that are not even true anolog but because it has some stupid rubber or texture and says those are superior, people really do not know what they are talking about it’s a shame as Dreamcast Analog stick and triggers were decade ahead of most controllers, Nintendo still doesn’t use analog triggers
This is one of the greatest consoles of all time. It was definitely way ahead of everybody else. Really makes you wonder how different the gaming industry would be nowadays if the system got the recognition it deserved and took off compared to PlayStation and Xbox

Great console, I remember getting the Japanese import and completing Sonic Adventures in Japanese. Joined the military came home on leave to find my parents had binned the system and games, along with my mega drive and mega CD. That was 20 years ago and I’ve still not forgiven them!
