The words I hate to hear....."tune your guitar down a half-step."
Stephen Davis just get a tuner man takes 30 seconds
@@HopliteYT Nonsense. The solution, as always, is MORE guitars.
@@benvsreality That's the solution to a LOT of questions.
benvsreality yep. I’m picking up a telecaster, removing the 6th string, open G, now I will have one guitar just for Stones stuff 😀👍
Put a capoe on the first fret of your guitar and tune as normal, remove capoe and its as simple as that.
You’re welcome
Any 90s sad song: So we're going to have to tune down a half step...
Fun fact: if it's a 90s song but it's not drop d or Eb it's actually not from the 90s

More Smashing Pumpkins songs would be sick
I agree! Thanks

DH shut up
DH Fr bro just stfu man
It's all that I want right now
I can seriously learn faster with you as a teacher then with anybody else. The way you break it down for us is a beauty in its self. Thank you for everything you do.
Yes.... ive learned so much i used to suck but now i just stink lol
Marty is still kickin’! I remember this dude when I was like 14. I’m 22 now
hes not
You think he knows how iconic of a guitarists he is? 😂
My first lesson with marty was in 07 😬
Now you’re 26!
Great lesson. Much easier than it sounds. I’m turning my 13 y/o son on to you. He’s just starting to play. I want him to learn from the best. 👊
Thank you guys for the continued support! Practice, practice, practice!
You guys are badass.
Seriously!! I applaud him knowing the voicings and paying attention to them play live… because wow it’s much more fun and simple than I expected. I spontaneously wanted to pick this up because I find this song beautiful and kind of rediscovered how much i love it. Didn’t think I’d find it easy to memorize, in like 15-20 minutes! Awesome lesson!
This song really has so many memories.. and now I'm finally learning to play the guitar.. 25 years too late but you keep me going!
im so stoned rn i thought this was the music video
If you wanna know an easy way to tune down a half step, just put a
capo on your first fret and tune to standard. Take off the capo then your tuned down a half step. Youre welcome😊
thank you!!
nice one everydays a school day i never knew this
It’s actually kinda bad for the tension on your strings so I recommend just getting that guitar app with the horns on the G thingy and they have a chromatic tuner you can use
Thaaaank you
It's really not that complicated just press the 4th of the e string and tune the a string like the e string and then the 5th of the a and so on and in the end just play the 5th of the e and tune down the e string
Marty is the GOAT of guitar playing
If he was, he'd be writing songs and not teaching
Foxtrot Mike Lima he is writing songs
I have seen you around before. You’re like the new Justin Y of alternative music videos

I love these guitar ads on lesson videos telling us to "ditch UA-cam". Real smooth 👍
Nachoooooooooooooooo!!!!!!
I love this song so much right now. I never listened to smashing pumpkins back in the day, but lately their music brings me back to the days I long for.
press 1 if billy corgan playing this song on the howard stern video brought you here for a quick marty lesson
Yep, thats the 1 for me. Sounded cool and looked fun to play. I already like doing those octave cords with the D muted, or whatever they are called.
Dude what are you stalking me
Uhhhhh....yeah man, I'm totally here for that specific reason! Lol
I can't figure out how to press 1.....been trying for hours on end now
Yeah at 6x speed haha
I’ve loved this song since I was a kid and waited for this video to be made. Thank you Marty for making this, I can’t even explain how much joy I get from being able to play this myself...
Thanks Marty, more Pumpkins, it doesn't have to be TODAY, or even TONIGHT, TONIGHT. But I AM ONE that knows that you won't be QUIET but will deliver some more PERFECT SP videos soon.
EveryBODIES will totally know these references!
@@mikxtaaZERO chance someone would miss it
I’m 19 years old. I heard 1979 probably 10 years ago or 9. I have loved it and never stopped listening since. amazing song.
You are a blessing for those who never wanted to learn to read music. For everyone who always told someone "I could play it. I just need to watch you play it." ... and rewind you... and pause you... thanks again marty.
This lesson was perfection! So clear and to the point! I was playing and singing this within 10 min
Marty, I just want to take a moment to thank you for your outstanding content. I've been playing for 15 years and for that entire time you have been my only teacher, particularly in the early days. Too bad I probably won't get to meet you one day, because I'd love to buy you a beer! Honestly, thank you on behalf of guitarists everywhere for your dedication, for inspiring passion for the instrument within us, and for your hard work to help anonymous people online. You rock dude!
Good to see your face Marty! This is bringing back memories, I watched so many of your vids when I was learning guitar in highschool. Thanks for helping me learn!
Just came across this four year old lesson but wanted to say you just get better and better. Thanks, Marty, for all you do.
Mate, you're a great teacher. I'm a beginner and still nailed this. You're awesome 👌🏼
Hey Marty, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you putting the time and effort into making these short lessons. I’ve only seen two so far because it takes me a bit longer to learn guitar being it’s not my primary instrument , but of those two, I think they were well done and informative. Especially the parts with the alternate chord options. So fro
Some random guy to you man thank you.
Marty you are one of the best guitar song tutorial channels. A lot of the songs I want to play, you show up and never disappoint. I had a short love/hate relation with the guitar in my late teens/early twenties. I'm 38 now with a bit more time, perseverence (and money) and the fire has rekindled. A month in and I allready know and can do more than I could in the wayback. I rock an Epi LP Tribute Plus (such a versatile guitar for the money) but it's songs like this that leave me allready wanting to get an acoustic as well.
This made me smile and feel a little sad at the same time. Smashing Pumpkins were a huge part of the soundtrack to my youth and bring back lots of memories ❤️
Same here brother. We were lucky to have it this way
The melody over the chords sounds so good. Love Smashing Pumpkins. First memory I have of my Dad is he and I riding in his Camaro listening to Bullet With Butterfly Wings
If i had UA-cam when i was starting out learning guitar in the 70s, I'd have an amazing library of songs and chord structures etc. The kids today dont know how valuable this is,, if you do know, utilize it thoroughly.
Nice choice! Great lesson as always. Never heard an acoustic version of this song...sounds epic! Still playing every day here. Thanks.
Havent seen your videos in so long. When I was younger in elementary school you were the one I learned from. Glad to see your still making great videos!
Nothing like learning a song on guitar from Marty when you never heard the song before but Marty such a good teacher you can still play the song perfectly 😅
Never forget getting home from school and watching the premier for this video and literally tearing up. What a time.
Thank you marty,,you are my best teacher specially in blues rock scale mode...ive been learning since 2012
G’day Marty!
I would just like to say a big thanks for doing what you doin.
I was in a real tough spot in life & the way I coped through the bad days was to pick up the acoustic & tune into your vids..
Bloody Legend!! Keep em coming!
I remember 1979, was one of the better years in my life.
Good song choice Marty, thanks again.
I’m old too brother and remember hearing this on the radio every hour. Imho I think melancholy and the infinite sadness double LP was probably their best work (Gish is also amazing).
I used to think I was born 20years to late but looking back at my life, being “in bloom” in the late 80’s and early nineties I was exposed so much I’m great music. It was such an amazing array of various styles of music it could only be labeled “alternative”
Blessed. Plus every thing s digital now.
I’m still analog!!!
Hands down best guitar instructor on UA-cam! Thanks, Marty!
Marty is still kickin’! I remember this dude when I was like 14. I’m 22 now
Marty is the GOAT of guitar playing
Could you please teach,

You rocked that Smashing Pumpkins song👌Could you please do another video on beginner's riffs, those helped me SO much!!😊
Thanks Marty. And for being so chill as well
As usual, Marty giving a great lesson of a great and different song. I was old when it came out Marty. Still love the slight dissonance in the guitar/ vocal.
Fantastic lesson!
Some really interesting shapes for me in this song.
Thanks Marty!
Fantastic lesson as always! My favorite Smashing Pumpkins song!
Marty you are a national treasure. Thanks for all that you do.
That was fantastic Marty, thank you! The tone of that guitar is gorgeous also.
Thank you for all of your time doing these vids, I have learned so much and I’m
Inspired to learn even more. You are the best.
Love from Australia
Thanks, Marty. As an old first timer, you make me feel like I can still play all my favorite songs. Cheers, man!
Thanks for sharing. One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite times in music. I’m old too
Now THAT'S how you teach a song! Top class Marty thanks for this and every other video you've done, top man!
been waiting for this tutorial since last year! finally. one of my favorite song ever.
Great sound that, absolutely love that track I was a teen at the time. Those years in music are timeless 🤙🏻

Ah I love this song so much, and you made it super easy to learn THANK YOU
your dedication means the world, u make playing fun :)
This was excellent. Thank you and please keep posting. Especially these acoustic lessons.
Thanks Marty, love this tune! I tell ya’, I hope this song is easier on guitar than drums. I struggled for years to get the drums (that offbeat hats part) just right. The way u teach it, I’m confident we'll get it 🤘. Thanks again, Marty, you continue to amaze!
Thanks bro! I come here sometimes for that one part I can’t get right myself. Your tutorials are legit.
Thanks Marty....such unusual chords and the tuning....no wonder I could never quite figure this one out, but thanks to your excellent tutorials I am now set to play 1979....thanks
I was looking forward to this lesson. Thanks!
I've always enjoyed listening to this song, thanks for the lesson!
Amazing taste and performance! Thank you!
I've watched about 10 of your videos and it's only dawned on me to subscribe to your channel, you da man Marty 👍
Wow if only we have you and UA-cam back in the 90s 😂😂🤟🏼🤟🏼🔥🔥
Favorite band of the 90s. So many memories.
Thank you for posting this one, one of my favorites!
I picked up a guitar for the first time and I learned to play zeppelin over the hills and far away by memorization thanks to your instruction. I still don’t know any chords. You are The best !!!
Once again, genius breakdown. Thanks!!
You just reminded me I love smashing pumpkins. I haven't listened to those records in years. I'ma go do that now.
Have a nice day.
One of my favourit song ever! I'm older than you (not so much ;) ) I think this song have a deep youth freshness and a kind of nostalgy that makes it unique.
Thank you Marty! Its my fav song, and hv been learning since last year from this video, pick it up quite good finally, after conquer it , comes a new challenge sing to it , which not come in as any other song around, lol. Beautiful song , wonderful tutorial !
Your lessons are the best because you don't talk too much. Thanks for the years of lessons.
Love your work Marty - alway helpful, always positive !
Thanks.....your channel keeps getting better and better!
Such interesting chords. Love it and so nice to play
Наткнулся случайно, даже не думал, что есть разбор на акустике. Я в восторге 😍

Thanks for the lesson Marty! Corgan is an underrated guitarist.
9:34 Your next lesson. Pets. 😂
Marty! Your one smooth cat Brother. I in joy you and your guitar playing . you teach me thing I never thought I could play... Love you man
Love this song, and your lesson!!! Thanks Marty!!
One of my faves. Thanks Marty!
AWESOME Lesson!
That passing chord is often thought of as a major dyad/ inversion. Not all the time but most of the time. It really helps to think of it that way if your looking where to use it and how it fits in when songwriting. So youve got your 3rd as the bass note and your root as the second note.
Looking back, I think this song was way ahead of it's time. I was playing around with a guitar back then but never thought of playing it. 😲
Just started a big smashing pumpkins kick. Great timing!
One of my favorite Acoustic song
Thanks again for the amazing tutorial!
Great stuff thanks! Literally fastest I ever subscribed to a channel
Hey Marty, thank you for the 1979 guitar tutorial. I remember 1979 well since I was 25 back then, oh & also got married that year too. Oh the song was released 1995 ....... I was even older then.
Love the finish on that guitar.
Eight years ago I was learning this song but I dropped it off now I have learning again ,thanks Marty you so much tomorrow I ll practice it
You are great teacher. Lots of luv from India.
Yesssss I love this song! Thanks Sir Marty!
Geez. I like listening to you play this more than the record.
Finally a Smashing Pumpkins song! Bring us more Marty!
Bro I just wanna watch you jam!! Thanks Brother!
