Woodturning - Red Apple Bottom Bowl

In this week’s woodturning video, I'll be turning an apple bowl and giving it a rustic charm with some milk paint.
This wood was bone dry and caused a good finish cut from a sharp tool. As you could see there were some cracks from drying so I had to fill them.
The inside of this piece was finished with Ack’s abrasive paste followed with Hampshire Sheen High Gloss Wax. On the outside a coat of Mahoney’s walnut oil was applied to the base and milk paint.

The Apple wood is pretty. I see so many turnings where cracks have been highlighted with black CA. Sometimes they’re a feature, but in this case they looked like a few drips down one side. The paint was a good design idea. I like the paint colour, which goes well with the wood. I also like the rim design. Together they make the bowl look Roman.
