@@supahdupahplayahmacknumbah1 After 10 years, yes. Hit a bad pothole and it starts leaking out. Would be better to replace with coil spring once it goes out though. There is a kit you can get specified for the town car, but takes a while since you would have to remove the air suspension. The light will stay on in the Cluster after that, but it can be ignored as long as you tell someone that it doesn't contain air suspension so dealers dont try to spend too much time wondering why the light is on.

I have a 1999. It's interesting that Town Cars seem to be driven by people of all ages these days. Maybe your generation is more accepting towards people who have ideas outside of the norm. My guess is that the internet has spread the word that these cars are safe, powerful, reliable, and inexpensive for what you are getting. The fact that is was the last American made V-8, rear drive, large body on frame car that was made might help too. There has been nothing like them since they were discontinued in 2011.IMO The Town Car combines the advantages of old school car engineering with modern reliability and safety
@@chiroquacker2580 I have noticed this too which I'm glad to see more & more young people drive these & love these than the new Lincoln's. I've seen videos with young people who drive these cars & where I live I see this. I've loved luxury cars since I was in high school in the 80's, mostly Lincoln & Cadillac. These or any year model of Town Cars in my opinion will never die, I still see senior citizens to young people still driving these Lincoln Town Cars.
I’m 20 and have a purchase of one pending. Picking it up Monday and I’m super amped!! I’ve noticed a lot of guy out age driving them and the older Continentals around lately. I work at a dealership and a young couple just bought a Taurus.
I never knew that about the interior lights....the air bags I believe are a typical thing to go out. I just converted mined into normal shocks. Save allot of 💰
I have an 03 naught it near the end of 2017 with 76k now it has 110k I drove through a puddle and a coil pack stopped working cost me $150CDN to fix otherwise I've just changed the oil so far it is about the most reliable car I have owned. I't is like driving a couch. Great car.
It's like driving a couch. LOVE IT!!! 😎 Just spotted a beautiful silvery-beige 2001 Town Car for sale near where I live and I'm really thinking about buying it. It's not what I was in the market for (was looking for a black Ford Taurus Limited 2015 or newer), but for $1,950 with a ton of new parts (suspension, intake manifold, brakes, tires, brand new tabs, and more), I'm thinking this car is a pretty good buy. It has 237,000 miles on it and the leather seats are very beat up, but from what I'm reading about these cars lasting forever, I'm seriously considering buying this car tomorrow. I could throw on some nice seat covers and it would make the interior look near-new. I've never been a huge Lincoln Town Car fan (owned a Mark VII and two Mark VIII's since 1999), but after seeing all the rave reviews on these cars, I just might go for it. 🤔🤔🤔
This is beautiful color, just as nice as black. I bought a 2006 Lincoln Town Car Signature 4 years ago & love it, only one payment left. I found a 2007 Lincoln Town Car Designer Series I'd like to buy but still keep my 2006 but only a thought right now.
Great car from the period! 4.6 w/4 speed auto. That combo with proper maintenance will go 200K easy. If the back of the car was sagging in the morning, i would say the air bags in the rear are dry rotting and leaking. That car in that shape will make a great used car!!
If the air springs are anything like the older ones like on the Lincoln Mark VIIs then it could be that just the O-Rings have dried out and shrunk in size. The Soapy Water Test should be able to help determine if its the bags or the O-Rings where the solenoid mounts on top. I have an older Lincoln than this still riding (for now) on three of its original air springs. One common leak points on the air springs is those O-Rings compared to the air spring itself.
I've got an '09 and love it. I must say I really like the setup of this car, interior/exterior colour combination. If I was going to buy one of this generation, this would be the one I wanted.
I love my 06 town car I have done major maintenance I sill have to repaint my bumpers obviously the last single owner dent those bumpers... the one thing I love everyone stays away from me even the cops when I slow down when they behind me they probably get bugged like if I was an 80 year old man driving 😂☝️
Yes reliable! We have had 4 in our family over the span of my 34 years of life! One we had from 91-08, a 91 executive continental, when I was 14 I started driving it alone & traded it in to buy a yellow sunfire to match my husbands when I was like 19 or 20 cause we had a newer town car, next car listed but I do regret that! The second Lincoln in my life was a 2000 Cartier town car from 00-2017, I hit a deer and then it was submerged by flood waters in hurricane Harvey & since I couldn’t handle riding in anything else with my spinal fusion & needed to stick to my dream town car hahaha the 98 signature town car we bought in 2018 & just got a 2009 signature limited for my dad, we hit another darn deer and he passed away leaving The Eagle to me. I grew up riding & driving these & DONT like to drive anything else. Fun story, my buddy’s 02 double stretch executive’s air ride went out 😢 but we fixed it! I’m 5’1” & like 100lbs soaking wet with rods and screws in my neck and back and still rolled under there 😅 she’s been afloat since changing the air ride bags (it’s not hard) & replacing the air line running from the compressor to the bags. See, he raised it onto jacks without shutting off the air ride 😮 I was like NOOOOO Never ever ever do that! Maintenance & upkeep is easy, take care of your town car and it’ll take care of you. Change your entire coiling unit, all the cylinders.. it’ll run beautiful forever if you just pay attention to it & keep your radiator clear of debris. Air ride problems don’t have to cost a fortune if you’re just a little savvy with basic mechanics.. the compressor under the hood has more bolts than anything related to the relay and they’re beneath it, up front. The bags are underneath but twist out. Seriously it’s easier than changing the oil & filters lol.. by the way, they do some mad burn outs and are fun on the track. I have a burnout video on my tiktok with my silver blue hue sig series or AKA the SS Ice Dragon on @tessy.Ohana not advertising just like hey y’all this car is a beast & is a lot of fun. It eats gas but if you reset your gauges once you’re cruising it helps. 😊
I got a 2000 Lincoln town car Cartier with 41631.87 miles with 14x7 deep dish 100 spoke rim with white wall tires and a 1.5 in adapters. Rides like a dream.
2 things, 1 I'm urr age and say same thing when going to my Dads. I know these roads like the back of my hand. Yes we do. But in country deer jump out and cost me a grand worth of damage. Always keep a sharp eye out. 2, I own a 99 Cartier 253K and 07 designer. Same mpg, gr8 cars. The air springs get cracks cause nobody seems to get the fact that rubber is like urr skin and needs moisture. Slap a handful of Vaseline or 303 spray. My sprigs are going on 11 yrs in rust belt. They r 1st cars to get a 5 star crash rating, reroute the AC drain so water don't drip on passenger frame and rot, seal up cabin air vent, and service on time. They will last 4ever. Many go 500k and some 700 or more. All about care. Have a good 1. I love these cars. Especially for family.
@@demri123 Yes. I recommend any panther car, town car, crown vic, Mercury Grand marquis. Any year 03-10 is last gen with newest advances. B4 that they are good but have older style heads, non pi, older plastic crossover that can leak. Small issues nothing major. They all have issues but the panther has few, and those are easily, and cheaply fixed. They're truly the last gr8est sedan produced. There's a reason why they was and still are being used for cop, fire, etc.
I have the 99 signature series touring sedan and I absolutely love it. Same exact color as yours and only has 150k mikes on it. I do have a few things I wish was different but hey I can’t complain, smooth ride. I’m not entirely sure what difference the touring package made for mine but yours looks perfect.
I like the softer brake feel. It helps me drive smoother. My Lincoln MKT has alot more bite. It took alot longer to get use to it. It also feels alot slower with a v6.
One of the most reliable cars on the road today with very cheap repairs if any, usually to air suspension...(not as cheap though)...I've owned many TC's and love them!! They are like an old pair of shoes....just feels like a great fit and comfortable..plus I could get 32 mpg hwy driving mature...gosh I loved my last one, a 2003..would love to find a 2005 Cartier or Ultimate edition with every option..including the power trunk..the one that actually closes from the full open position!!
@@Elijah-fc3ex I commuted from Tampa to Sarasota several times a week..I was OCD on tracking my MPG..I do not depend on the trip computer either...I would fill up drive down then fill up again..that would determine my mpg ..I admit I did drive slower..55 to 60 most of the time..no stop and go..all hwy between Tampa/Sarasota..Many people with the Panther frame Fords attain 32 mpg..not that unusual!!! You do have to drive like an old man...drive like there is an eggshell on gas pedal and a glass of wine on the roof..no fast starts or hard stops!!
The east coast of Fla is mostly flat. When I drive my tc car in Fla I get 25mpg in all around driving 29 on hwy . In South Carolnia which is alot of hill and dale driving I get about 15mpg in all around driving. 24 on hwy .
I have three of these cars from various ages, I can tell you you will not find a safer or more reliable vehicles than this it is times that eragon good luck with new cars people. This guy could drive a brand new car it would not perform as well as this magnificent car will be
The pedals on these are hazardously close to each other, adjustment or not. At a light, you can easily be feeding it gas. You can also hit the gas at the same time you are braking resulting in a pretty violent herky-jerky.
I just bought a near Mint Triple Black 1999 Town Car Signature Series. I welcome any advice and guidance 91K miles. I bought it from Specialty Motor Cars in Noo Hampsha.
I own the same vehicle and the surge has to do with the idle fan taking up most of the power. That indicates a bad idle fan motor. You can disconnect it and the surge goes away, but isnt recommended as the engine can heat up badly in the summertime. I would recommend replacing it, but not sure of you have by now or not. Vehicle has 87,000 miles when air suspension went out and had it replaced. I will give you Pros and Cons from my experience. Pros: ° ride is smooth ° sunroof ° break pedal adjustment Cons: ° Alot of electrical issues (some is resolved due to some pins have corrosion on them in connectors, but has to do with age) ° Parts aren't cheap, but they are cheaper than when it 1st came out. ° Would recommend removing the air suspension and use coil spring instead as you will have frequent problems. ° Some parts are no longer made, like the insturment cluster, which you would have to find someone who fixes them. ° CD Player is in the back trunk (can buy a replacement radio with built in CD Player to combat this and is pretty cheap to do) I recommend it, but make sure you have money on you just incase as they are old cars and may have alot of issues due to age.
The airbag has a leak if car sags overnight. The compressor will work overtime to compensate. Not cheap but compressor is more expensive to replace. Same system was on my 85 Conti.
Friends mom has a 2000 cartier, it has 400k miles, still goes strong, interior, body in good condition. The only thing about em is the coil packs are very sensitive to liquids and whatnot. And after a longer time the window mechanisms tend to get slower and rust a bit, but otherwise engines, suspension, gearboxes, electronics work like a charm. No wonder the police, taxis, etc used them so much.
This statement couldnt be any more well stated i have a 2000 250 miles and my coil pack got a little water on it amd shit the bed besised shitty coil packs its a great car no doubt
God: what do you want in a vehicle? I want it to be the most comfortable ride ever, be the safest car if i get in a accident, its gotta hold all my gear and friends, be super comfy inside, like lazy boy seats y'know? and not break, ever.. like its gotta go a million miles with no problems. God: No problem, I know a guy..
I bought one last year, 96k on the odo. Best car I've ever owned out of 12 previous cars/trucks (had 2 rangers that were amazing even after 100i each by me , f*** a jeep as they got stuck in rural hills Ohio and in RIVERS 20miles down the river crossing at Fairbanks problemless) Lincoln is the bomb car, like a living room on wheels. Pump noise is normal i worked managing a shop for 6 yrs, it's an electric air pump. All air compressors make noise, give me a break. Clap your hands, or do an armpit fart, the compression of any air makes noise period point blank.
My mom has a very nice 2000 Town Car Cartier. When she bought it had only 81,000 miles on it. Has been a good car. Only issue is the infamous water leak. The leak cost 140.00 bucks to get fixed but well worth it and no more leaking in the car.
BRO!GREAT RELIABILITY!LOOK UP SCOTTY KILMER!ONE AND MOST RELIABLE👍I JUST GOT BACK FROM A CRUISE IN MY 99'GRAND MARQUIS! MY DRIVE WAS IN THE CITY AND OUTSIDE OF TOWN(NOT FAR). I'M NOW THINKING OF ADDING A TOWN CAR?AND MY OTHER VEHICLES ARE TRUCKS WITH NO MORE THEN 4"LIFTS AND ARE BETWEEN 86'AND 07'!TOWN CARS ARE GOOD AND RELIABLE👍✌🇺🇸
I own a 99 merc as well my parents drive it daily the only problem being that it isnt posi and spins out easily in the rain when turning corners because it lacks TC
Another thing is the cats. I run mine with no cats. Use spark plug non foulers for upstream. There's videos on that and have just mufflers. Or make it loud. Also tge airbox horn for fresh air is 2 inches. That's a joke for a V8. I make it 4.5 inches of respectable size. And make sure on 02 older that throttle cable is tight. Mine wasn't opening 100%. A few small zip ties to take up slack fixed that. Shell surprise u. Not a racer but for a big heavy car that can breathe easier with less restriction, she'll squat and go. Love panthers. Gr8 cars with best ride besides a Citroën with the hydraulic ball system. That's the best riding car I've ever been in. Better than a Bentley, why they borrowed it. and Rolls
The only reliability issue I've seen with these is the air suspension. The bags wear out, and the pump works constantly to inflate them. The good news is that it's $150 for a spring and shock kit that turns it into a coil suspension, and it's easy to drop in. These are panther body cars, so think of the mercury grand marquis and Ford Crown victoria with way more luxury. The thing I love about these cars is that they aren't apologetic about being comfortable and luxurious. Luxury trucks and suv's always felt like they had to justify their comfort with utility. These cars feel very pre 9/11 in that they signify success in the way that having one means you don't have to work hard anymore to make it; you're already there. They aren't meant to be particularly fast or sporty and the trunk is large to fit golf bags and luggage. When you are in one you get a feeling for what the ww2 generation had in mind for life. You get to feel what boomers were told they'd get before financial collapses took their pensions and retirements away. You don't get cars like this anymore, especially not marketed to the middle class.
Probably already know, but these will go 400,000mi plus. Best bang for the buck luxury car for the budget guy. I have 2006 and it rocks anything for the same price. Brakes can feel a little soft due to rotor to weight feel. It weighs 4500lb and the rotors aren't all that huge compared to todays vehicles.
That’s the one thing I’ve noticed, I was kinda worried about. I got a 99, when I go to break, it takes a little bit longer than the little Toyota I had. I’m guessing because the town car is much bigger? I don’t know though.
@@Ninnjette- Yeah, the towncar weight difference is going to be noticable at first, but you grow used to it. It's a very safe car too in case you were to get into a crash vs the toyota. Being you have a 99, I'd have a shop make sure your brake lines aren't spongy or rotted.
@@prodesign8189 I really appreciate your reply, the guy I bought it from was very honest with me and told me there was a leaking valve cover gasket on the driver side before I even looked at it. My mechanic this Saturday is going to fix it, so I can have him check the brakes while he’s at it. Thank you!
I got mine for $2700 has 120k miles no check engine light just has a fist size dent on rear fender, so if yours has perfect body and half my mileage maybe double value of mine
I'll need to see if 2006 has the same for interior lights, never thought about this until saw your video which mine has the same dash layout & I usually keep my lights in the auto position. I've never liked this body style but has grown on me over the years plus like the factory wheels. When the car sits low in back that's a sign the airbags need to be replaced which I had to have mine replaced last summer 2018 which I had the car towed to dealer as I wasn't going to drive car that low but thankfully my service advisor gave me a break on the price to replace airbags & pump.
@@thalo9237 I don't know about the quality of springs, I didn't have mine converted which I went with the original suspension when I had it replaced. Plus I had it done at the dealer as I don't trust anyone else outside of factory trained technicians for something major like this plus my service advisor at the dealership knows me since I take my car in for oil changes as needed. The pump & ai suspension bags was around $2,000 something with parts & labor included. I don't know if this helps.
What are folks thinking about these now that gas prices have skyrocketed? I'm think about getting one but gas mileage is my concern. Is it worth the extra money you spend? Thanks
I appreciate your taste in Lincolns, but the 99-02 town cars are *UGLY* but the 03-12 town cars are much more refined _and_ come with dual exhaust. Can't buy one without it.
I actually prefer the 98-02 body style to the later ones. Only big advantage to the newer style is rack & pinion steering. I'm biased though, I have a '98 Cartier, a '99 Siggie, oh, & an '05 Crown Vic LX Sport.
Does the ride ever feel to mushy as you switch lanes? Almost like you could lose control? I find myself driving mine like it could slide off the road if I don't pay attention.

No reliability issues with these.
Hey I’m 18 and I daily a 2000 town car. It’s been great so far
I'm 24 and drive a 2011 towncar executive
@@brothersgarage3748 Smart man,I know you love the HUGE back seat,lol.......
I’m 20 and have a purchase of one pending. Picking it up Monday and I’m super amped!! I’ve noticed a lot of guy out age driving them and the older Continentals around lately. I work at a dealership and a young couple just bought a Taurus.
My friend owns a car service...I needed a daily/beater...Today he gave me a 2007 LTC, that just turned 300k.
I never knew that about the interior lights....the air bags I believe are a typical thing to go out. I just converted mined into normal shocks. Save allot of 💰
And I am a fellow Tennesseean as well lol, cheers!
I'm jealous of the roads you guys have to drive your Lincoln town cars on ! 🇨🇦
I think the handicap tag comes standard on these.....lol
Lol. That made me laugh.
Lol
I have a 96' and I love it to death
me too
the look forward comment was key, I really look forward to driving my Town Car home after a long day of work. Not so much my Honda
Exactly. the car has style with the same reliabilty
I have a 06 Mercury Grand Marquis it have the same engine transmission and horsepower and I love it
I have an 03 naught it near the end of 2017 with 76k now it has 110k I drove through a puddle and a coil pack stopped working cost me $150CDN to fix otherwise I've just changed the oil so far it is about the most reliable car I have owned. I't is like driving a couch. Great car.
Armed with a 7mm nut driver you could of changed that in 5 minutes. Watch a video and DIY!
Made a mistake on the dealer to charge me $100 to replace a coil pack I buy them on Amazon now for twenty bucks with lifetime warranty
This is beautiful color, just as nice as black. I bought a 2006 Lincoln Town Car Signature 4 years ago & love it, only one payment left. I found a 2007 Lincoln Town Car Designer Series I'd like to buy but still keep my 2006 but only a thought right now.
Cool! These are classy cars and great cruisers - thanks for stopping by!
I recently bought an '07 TC with 31k miles. Loving it.
Great car from the period! 4.6 w/4 speed auto. That combo with proper maintenance will go 200K easy. If the back of the car was sagging in the morning, i would say the air bags in the rear are dry rotting and leaking. That car in that shape will make a great used car!!
Yes! Yes they are, I’ve been hearing the pump kick on when sitting. Cool cruiser!
I love my 2000 Lincoln Towncar Signature Series.
I have 2001 Executive Series in the same color but Grey interior … love it, very reliable vehicle…
Very nice rides, loved driving it too
No problem. That car is fine. Air ride in rear. It will rest the air ride when cycled off. The cd changer is in the trunk. Very reliable.
As soon as is economically feasible. I am so looking forward to my next Town Car.
I HAVE 2 Town cars super reliable , luv them
Yes reliable! 😊
I have a 2001 lincon town car with 76000 miles was my moms car love this car
Great cars
Air bags in the rear. They run well over 300,000 if maintained properly as well as Fords Crown Victoria and Mercury’s Grand Marquis
I got a 2000 Lincoln town car Cartier with 41631.87 miles with 14x7 deep dish 100 spoke rim with white wall tires and a 1.5 in adapters. Rides like a dream.

I just bought a 99 signature with 118000 from 2nd owner for $2400 a few weeks ago

Do you recommend an 04?
@@demri123 Yes. I recommend any panther car, town car, crown vic, Mercury Grand marquis. Any year 03-10 is last gen with newest advances. B4 that they are good but have older style heads, non pi, older plastic crossover that can leak. Small issues nothing major. They all have issues but the panther has few, and those are easily, and cheaply fixed. They're truly the last gr8est sedan produced. There's a reason why they was and still are being used for cop, fire, etc.
Nice car.. I'm about to buy me one for my birthday next month a 2002 white Lincoln Town car signature series with 100k
I have the 99 signature series touring sedan and I absolutely love it. Same exact color as yours and only has 150k mikes on it. I do have a few things I wish was different but hey I can’t complain, smooth ride. I’m not entirely sure what difference the touring package made for mine but yours looks perfect.
It is drive by wire. The the pedals are all electronic. It has speed sensitive variable assist steering as well.
Before 05 is cable, as far as I know
I like the softer brake feel. It helps me drive smoother. My Lincoln MKT has alot more bite. It took alot longer to get use to it. It also feels alot slower with a v6.
I got a 2001 Cartier back in June of this year I really enjoy it
I love your steering wheel and switch panels. I have an 03 and 06. Lincoln progressively introduced cheaper interior trim throughout model years.
Just replace the air bags with coil overs from a 90s grand marquis and problem is solved. Hardly any difference in road feel
Liar there's no way your getting 32 🤣
24 on hwy .
THE TOP ELITE MODEL IS THE PRESIDENTIAL MODEL. I HAD ONE AVAILABLE TO BUY AND I WAITED TOO LONG TO BUY IT, IT WAS,SOLD😩😩😢😢😢😭😭😭
I have one same year and love it runs like a new one never had any problems except replaced the cb joints
The trunk has 21 square feet of space
You can turn the air ride off, there is a switch on the left inside of the trunk.
Do you wear a size 16 shoe? I'm fairly average sized and have never once had any issues with my 2000
Yeah width work boots on the size 10 my first start driving it I drove over a parking block pushing the brake at the same time as the gas
Pros:
° ride is smooth
° sunroof
° break pedal adjustment
Cons:
° Alot of electrical issues (some is resolved due to some pins have corrosion on them in connectors, but has to do with age)
° Parts aren't cheap, but they are cheaper than when it 1st came out.
° Would recommend removing the air suspension and use coil spring instead as you will have frequent problems.
° Some parts are no longer made, like the insturment cluster, which you would have to find someone who fixes them.
° CD Player is in the back trunk (can buy a replacement radio with built in CD Player to combat this and is pretty cheap to do)
I recommend it, but make sure you have money on you just incase as they are old cars and may have alot of issues due to age.
The airbag has a leak if car sags overnight. The compressor will work overtime to compensate. Not cheap but compressor is more expensive to replace. Same system was on my 85 Conti.
Yeah, rear suspension and intake manifolds on the 98-02 were problem areas.
Man I have one with 255 thousand miles still running great
Friends mom has a 2000 cartier, it has 400k miles, still goes strong, interior, body in good condition.
YOU'RE CONFUSING THESE WITH CROWN VICS, THESE WERE USED BY POLICE SECURITY AND TAXIS
God: No problem, I know a guy..
dutch dettweiler why is God saying that to God?
The Real J P Morgan That is right 😂😂😂🤣😂😂
I bought one last year, 96k on the odo. Clap your hands, or do an armpit fart, the compression of any air makes noise period point blank.
correction** Sand banks not Fairbanks and 20 miles in the rangers where jeeps got stuck early and 100k driven by me.
I love my '99 MGM. The only thing I'd part with it for is a newer one or a Town Car.
Better than a Bentley, why they borrowed it. and Rolls
Very good buy man.
2002 Lincoln Continental 4.6L v8 - the Silver bullet 👍🏼
2001 going strong
Thank you!
There’s one with 58k under $6000. Should I consider it? I’d like it closer to $5000.

Looks like it needs an airbag on the left side.
Buy it. I would!

If you don't mind me asking you.. How much did it cost? I also wonder if you convert them over to springs. Does it change the ride quality?

Thanks

Nice car sweet ride.
If you are a real american, you are attracted to these cars
You probably need to replace the bags or just convert to springs

These cars r way better than a Cadillac. At least these are super reliable
Does the ride ever feel to mushy as you switch lanes? Almost like you could lose control? I find myself driving mine like it could slide off the road if I don't pay attention.
Hello do you know how much they cost today?
I noticed the temperature gauge sits slightly under the half way mark. Mine sits slightly over, is this normal?
Short answer, yes.
