I have a 2001 Towncar- it only has 270,000 miles. This car is built like a tank! I was stopped waiting for a stoplight to change, a woman slammed into me~ must have been about 30+ mph. Her car was completely totaled, front end crushed into the windshield. The Towncar had a crack in the bumper, but you couldnt see it and I never had it repaired. That was the only damage and it was 150,000 miles ago. I felt the jolt when she hit me, and was pushed forward a couple yards or so. I felt like the Towncar saved my life. Recently my friend replaced the timing chains and said it was the cleanest engine he had ever see. The engine runs great!! The main problem having now is the rust from Chicago winters. Love it so much I bought a 2010 Towncar 5 months ago.
As a former professional chauffeur, I can attest to the longevity of the Town car...I have owned two myself, along with 2 crown vics...one car had half a million miles on it that I had put most of them on!! Love LTC!
All you need now is... The TOWN !!! You live in the country with cows, man ! Town car ?? Ooops ! (And he drives is 4×4 tandem wheel F 450 in... town, of course !!!!)
@@1575murray Dude, no they werent. That was the police cars, because they had extra metal rails installed in the trunk to hold their equipment. In fact, the Panther platform were the only cars in history to be able to survive a 75mph rear impact, and still drive to the body shop. requiring only minimal repairs to fix the damage.
These are Great Cars!!!! Ford really screwed up big time getting rid of the Lincoln Town Car and the Crown Vic. I know they did away with the Mercury brand, but they should have kept the Town Car and Crown Vic. If Ford kept them, and kept improving them, I think they would still have great sales. Taxi's, Uber's and traditional American's would still buy them. I know everyone wants trucks, but a Town Car just has so much more style and class then a F-150 at a funeral or wedding. The Panther platform is the last of it's kind. It was the one advantage Ford had over GM. GM went unibody, Front Wheel Drive with their troubled Northstar V8's, but Ford was smart they kept the tradition of a big solid, body on frame , simple V8 that rides so good, reliable, and was relatively easy to work on. Lincoln right now has nothing that compares to the Town Car. I am not impressed with the new Lincoln Continental at all. Sorry Ford you screwed up big time, getting rid of these. I miss these cars.
I just bought this car 2 days ago and im soo happy. I uave 390,000 on dash and everyone thinks im crazy for buying it. Im happy to see yours over 400,000 and strong. I hope to prove everyone wrong
Ron Wojcik any car with that much milage needs a good amount of repairs. The thing about these cars is the parts are dirt cheap. So if you do your own labor it won't cost much to keep it on the road. Maybe a few hundred a year with oil and breaks. I have a navigator thats had quite a bit go wrong with it this year. And I'm still only about $500-600 into repairs(nothing major like engine or transmission work) just little things
Just bought a 1999 town car last week for $1500 and love it. Needed a wiper motor. When I did that I cleaned the whole engine bay, cleaned the MAF, removed leaves and debris from the drainage area fixing the leak into the passenger footwell, removed the bubbling tints, changed the oil, put in new head light and signal bulbs, I sanded and coated the head lights, deep cleaned the seats, floors and headliner, replaced all interior bulbs with LEDs, and did some paint correction. and wow it looks sooooo good did it all myself this past weekend! Cost less then $100 in supplies I didn’t already have. And best part … only 120,000 miles! Just passed inspection! And less then $100 a month to fully insure ?! Can’t beat that! Loving this car already! Things a leather couch on wheels and I own it outright! Great video !

Air ride suspension? Even without the air ride they still had a great ride. Great cars, many are still out on the road because there's nothing you can buy today that can compare.
@@wildbill23c I had the air ride suspension. I had to change a bag once or twice on it. When that bag needed replaced I definitely felt everything on the road, but no complaints here.

Hate to be a stick in the mud, but MOST cars if properly maintained will give long and faithful service. And no, I ain't talking a Yugo. But Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, all have the ABILITY to go a lot of miles. Do your part.
I have to disagree. If maintained by the book, I think preventive maintenance should not be necessary to run reliably. Most mechanical defects announce themselves in advance anyway (by making noises).
I have a Lincoln mks 2009 with only 82000 miles on it. Beautiful car and definitely a head turner. 😬 Runs like a dream and has heated and cooled seats, heated backseats as well. Totally luxurious. I love Lincoln's and am not an old man. 😁
I love these cars, my aunt always brought Lincolns (town cars specifically) but I never appreciated the car until I got older. I will be getting one these cars in the future. Their subtle style but tasteful luxury features makes these a must have. Not to mention their excellent reliability and low cost of ownership.
Any of you ever had a secret love affair with one of those "grandma cars? " , When I was about 30, I wanted to get a 98' Lincoln Mark VIII coupe. I was embarassed to tell my friends, riding in 5.0L mustangs and camaros. The reason as the "secret love affair", because the car isn't that pretty for many, and considered as a senior citizen ride. The thing had 290hp and like 300 lb/f torque! and the ride was like swinging in pillows and fully equipped with all sorts of gizmos and gimmicks. Once you sat in one, it was selling itself.
Friend in college had a black on black 1977 Cougar XR-7 leather 2-door I rode in once. I didn't fully appreciate it, as I was a Chevy guy back then... I'm a grandpa now at 58, so I guess it's okay if I love panther platform cars.
get one now while they are cheap and obtainable. 10- 20 years from now wont be able to find em cuz owners will want a fortune for them they are that good!
Hi from Liverpool UK. I once owned a 77 town car, man that thing was a beast. Electric seats heated everything, headlight doors, moon roof , it was fully loaded, 19 and a half feet long and everyone got out of my way. Kids came along and she had to go @12mpg. I still miss that car😢😢
If you're from NYC, these cars were the regular taxi vehicles you would take and if you saw them outside the city, you would be amazed that people had this car as a daily. We took it for granted.
I've owned alot of vehicles in 45 years of driving. My 2001 Grand Marquis is definately the most reliable I have ever owned. Theres alot of good runners out there, but for people who always speak out the sides of their mouth about Fords..you have no clue. A young man I work with at a repair shop is always saying he will never own a Ford. He drives gm and even a toyota and he spends more time asking for a ride than he does driving his own vehicles. lol
I just got mine yesterday on the 4th of April had 84,000 miles on it it came from a Microsoft executive show for great condition of cars immaculate it's a winner and it's comfortable.
I have a 97 Town Car with 658 thousand miles on it and only had to change the intake the injectors and the rear airbags and other than maintenance stuff that's it and yes this car is a boat and I love it.
I'm a limousine driver, I know this car! Glad to see you gave it recognition on your channel. I've driven all kinds of limos in my time. I was horrified they stopped production on it. NOTHING has come out to replace it's looks and utility for which it was designed and developed since. They are disappearing from the roads due to age, accidents and wear. NYC is still loaded with them though. (I had a sister 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis LS which I loved! The northeast roads did in the frame.) Just like this guy, I would love to get a Marauder (maybe an L if they made one too). Anyone know how to rebuild these cars? The limo market could use some refreshed ones.
I learned to drive in my mom's 1977 Lincoln Town Car, 460 (7.5L) V8, 3-speed C6 Transmission, 10 mpg. This Panther Platform car is an economy car in comparison! I love these cars.
I also owned a 1977 Lincoln Continental Cartier Edition. Purchased in 1982 and owned it till 2002. A garage queen most of its life, it finally became a daily driver for the last five years. Just as dependable as the Panthers, but 12MPG is all I could get out of it around town. Also owned 'a 77 Grand Marquis, 78 Grand Marquis and '78 Continental at various times over that twenty year stretch. Later owned 1999 Grand Marquis , '94 Town Car, '95 G. Marquis, and currently own a 2006 Executive Limited Town Car daily driver with about 85K on it, and '06 Designer garage queen with about 53K. I do as much of my own repairs as possible, which is one of the biggest reasons I stick with this platform. Reliability is their hallmark, and an effortless, roomy, quiet ride is a given.
Russell Souder And every city I've been to has crown VICS at least laying around, even if it's just a few So I'm guessing where you live they probably had much older crown vic police cars or had much higher mileage than most departments
@@JDMHaze could be. The city I live in never used them to begin with. The county cars that were crown vics are completely gone. I know most of the county officers. But the city I actually live in has 2 chargers and the rest are Dodge Durangos. I think they still have one Dakota running around too. For whatever reason they refuse to use fords vehicles.
We have a 2001 tc diamond sl, with every option, 132000 miles 25-28 mpg at 80 mph so comfortable, I can cover 900 miles a day, and I'm 79 years old,my wife drive's it every day in town, we love it.
I've always owned muscle cars but something about a Lincoln especially this one whenever I see one of these in person it gets me wet these cars are beautiful as long as you take care of them they will run forever and eat potholes for breakfast brunch and dinner all in one meal.
That's why home mechanics love panther's as daily drivers. Parts are cheap, they're easy to work on, and don't break down very often. Scheduled preventive maintenance is all that's required to keep them running, and this car is proof.
I had a 1979 MK-V (Mark-5) and a 1979 Lincoln Town Car,you can't go wrong with either one of these cars,a million miles is quite possible in either model. Both cars feature the large bell C-6 automatics in them and are built like tanks!!.
My grandfather had a Mercury Grand Marquis. He wouldn’t get the Lincoln cause he thought it was too fancy, LOL. I remember riding in his car, it was so smooth. For a while I owned a ‘80 Thunderbird, a two door boat and a half. Very smooth as well and if I pushed the gas pedal to the floor you could almost see the needle moving toward the E. Wish I had kept it around but for some reason I didn’t want to have two cars back then.
My Dad hates Ford products but my Step Mother's sister is a realtor. She had Town cars. She always got 300,000 + on them before trading them. He drove one ( about a 2000 model). He said even though it's a " DAM Ford", he really liked it.
I just bought a One Owner 2001 Lincoln Town car with a binder full of ever single repair ever done on it since it was new. it had 74.000 miles on it. New it sold for $44.000, I paid $4.400 for it. Garage kept since day one, as it will be from now on. Black exterior with dark Gray leather interior. Best thing is I found the shop that has done all of the maintenance on it for the last 19 years.
I hate to admit it but I did work for a huge taxi company for 3 months back a few years ago, I hated that job. But anyways they were still using Ford Crown Vics with the 4.6L V8, they all had over 500k miles and still going. The taxi company was trying to get something more modern and bought 10 Toyota Camry's but they didn't last a year. Keep in mind taxis go through pure hell; gear shifter goes from Drive to Park a 100x a day, the back doors (mainly the right rear one) opens and closes a 100x a day, mostly in town driving, tons of idling, during busy seasons (the holidays) they tend to miss their scheduled oil changes, etc. I drove a wrecker many years before that; I saw many high mileage American (Domestic) cars. The fact is that high mileage Foreign (Import) cars tend to get more publicity then the American cars do.
Amazing mileage on a factory build! I've had the pleasure of driving an early 90's town car and it was a sweet comfy ride after doing head gaskets on it. Previous owner overheated it big time, to the point of stalling it. I'm surprised it didn't do more damage other than gaskets actually, ran great afterwards. Thanks for the video.
I got that same engine in my 1994 4.6 Mercury Cougar Coupe and it runs quiet as a mouse and damn near over 400k miles and still on the road I love that car and easy to work on
Ford never had a 4.6 liter v6 in their trucks or vans. It was a v8. The 6 cylinder was a 4.9 (on older early 90's and 80's trucks and later became a 4.2l
I have had 4 Lincoln town cars!! Never be a better car made!! I am still driving my 4th one, she's a 2004 with 133,000 miles on her. I love her and never want to let her go!!
mine is an 2003 f150 xlt with 247,000 miles and runs like new, even still has the new car {petroleum plasticide] smell in the cab as not one stinking badge i mean cigarette butt has ever been smoked in it, and is yours an xlt?

Newer ford products are generally more reliable than older ones, but those were beasts. They stopped selling them, because the demand for body on frame, large rwd American sedans dropped off lol. I take pride in my 2007 Executive L - love taking it on road trips - has less than 219,000 miles. Only issues I’ve had were parking brake getting stuck from sitting parked too long and the notorious passenger side floor leak which I think I fixed by sealing the area under the a/c intake cowl w/ black permatex.
Sorry I didn't catch you sooner on how to fix this problem. Take the plastic cowl off under the rgt wiper there's a drain screen that allows water to flow inside the fender. The screen plugs and then the water leaks inside passenger side. Take the screen and throw it away. Ihave a 2006 exec L w/ 399,750 miles no leaks.
Back before every single luxury car had to have a giant screen in the middle of the dashboard! I prefer the older luxury cars over the new ones. A new luxury car wouldn't last half as long as this car before as the modern tech stuff would start falling apart!
Erich H I have a 1998 Lincoln Continental and I agree. Honestly that car feels more high tech and luxurious than modern cars do and I hate the way modern cars feel.
I have had a 1979 Lincoln Tow Car Continental, 1987 Lincoln Mark VII, a 1989 Lincoln Town Car, and a 2001 Lincoln Continental. Each drove like a dream and had the big boat float feel going down the road. Easy to work on too except 2001 which always had electrical and computer issues, but otherwise was nice to drive. I miss them and would gladly own one from any of those earlier eras again. A lot better than today's computers on wheels.

I have an ultimate as well. Do you have issues with the door handles? Replaced the passenger door panel a few months ago. The driver side is acting up. I need to open it carefully, so the paneling doesn’t crack (like the pass. side did).
@@we.must.decrease I have never had that issue. The issues of this year car are minor and the motor is easy to work on. The pros out wieght the cons by far. Love this car, I'll be able to give this car to my son and it will still be running good.

Its 281 cubic inches and weighs 4600 pound before people get in.... still gets 20/27 mpg.
Best cars ever made.... I have 2.
Absolutely. They're 1,000 times more reliable than a Cadillac, Too!!
Charlie S. You're 100% right about that.
Lincoln Town Car was by far the most luxurious feeling car I've ever been in.
Charlie S. Except the older Cadillacs, like a 65 that I never should have sold.
Gimme one
The car is so strong my friend had one and got in a nasty wreck and it saved his life
As long as you don't get hit from behind these cars were known to catch fire when hit in the back.

I agree
I agree too, these were easily Ford's best car ever. Not only are they powerful but they have Toyota like reliability

Ron Wojcik any car with that much milage needs a good amount of repairs. The thing about these cars is the parts are dirt cheap. So if you do your own labor it won't cost much to keep it on the road. “PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE” wise words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Facts
Hate to be a stick in the mud, but MOST cars if properly maintained will give long and faithful service. And no, I ain't talking a Yugo. But Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, all have the ABILITY to go a lot of miles. Do your part.
@@tomswinburn1778 say it again brother!

I have to disagree. If maintained by the book, I think preventive maintenance should not be necessary to run reliably. Most mechanical defects announce themselves in advance anyway (by making noises).
Best part is how dirt cheap these are...so unappreciated by the masses.
I have a Lincoln mks 2009 with only 82000 miles on it. Beautiful car and definitely a head turner. 😬 Runs like a dream and has heated and cooled seats, heated backseats as well. Totally luxurious. I love Lincoln's and am not an old man. 😁

I have a 2001 Cartier L with 113,000 miles and it still drives like a dream. Super comfortable and hardly any road noise. Best American car ever built.
Im a 19 year veteran of the limousine business and the Lincoln Town Car is number one best car ever made for limo service. it was the Flagship Car for Lincoln and are absolute work horses.
Just point the Hood Ornament in the direction you want the car to go and it will drive it's self, (No hands required) "Just Like a boat!"
I love my 2008 Crown Victoria P71.... rev up your panther platform!
Those town cars were reliable! Honestly, they could run forever. Thank you for showing this! A true rarity!
I have a 2002 signature. I LOVE IT!! Working on AC now as we speak. After watching Scotty's video of course. Other than replacing the air bags with springs and an ignition coil here and there I love this car.
How'd swapping out the air springs with conventional springs work for you? I'm thinking about doing the same thing ON mine.
I have a 89 lincoln town car limo with 489.000 miles and it has the same drive train and still runs... but had to take it off the road due to the frame being to rusty... These panther platforms was the best in my opinion ford ever built.!!! Thanks for sharing.!!!
I love his commentary
Most beautiful car ever built!
Hahaha........ quel con celui là
Agreed

It's a frigin box on wheels 😂😂

I had a problem with the parking brake one time getting stuck, drove it like 20 miles on the highway before I realized why it was going so slow 😂😂
I love how everyone keeps acting like this car is some antique. Lol it's a mid 2000's model and a Lincoln at that. It's just as computerized as anything made today
@@doctorfeinstone6524 They were relatively simple tech wise no matter the year. Look at a bmw or mercedes of that era and the amount of tech would make your head spin if you have to work on one.
I bought my first car because of Scotty Kilmer... 99 Mercury Grand Marquis with 52K Miles on it. An old man owned it and kept it in the garage, I'm now the 2nd owner
My 2011 has 575K - original engine still runs quiet/ looks great.

"If you're a driver, you're not driving A Lincoln Town car as much as you're, *driven.* "
I have a 2003 Lincoln Town car Executive L with 455k - I drove Colonel Oliver North and T-Pains Wife in it.
He said the hood is so long the car arrives before I do🤣😂 classic
06 TC Signature, 499,375 miles. Ex livery, kept in excellent shape, always garaged. I work for the limo company, they retired it three years ago at 460,000 miles. I bought it from them for a song. Still looks and drives like new.
A buddy of mine at work just bought one of these for 2400 bucks. 280,000 miles and it was maintained pefectly.
I proudly own a 2004 Lincoln town ultimate. Best car I ever owned. I 💕 that car
Own a 04, and had a 96 before the 04. Miss the 96. Should’ve kept it.
