superb advice. good video, well paced.
no verbosity ! Best wishes from Portugal 🇵🇹! Thanks again
man this is the definitive build.. I have noted down basically everything for my 701
Great mate, all the details are in the description. Enjoy the build!
Nice upgrades, glad to see a very practical real-world approach! A few other worthy mods: Sidestand switch eliminator, front & rear disc guards, larger inline fuel filter and heated grips.
Thanks for the tips! What inline fuel filter do you recommend?
@@DKADV The best one is a Golan model "50‑QUICK‑1" but there is a knock-off Chinese made copy from NiceCNC. They both just replace the quick release fitting on your fuel line (where the stock inline filter sits). The advantage is greater filter surface area, a 10 micron screen, and you can unscrew & clean instead of replacing filters. Tip: Use a crimp-on "ear" hose clamp for added durability, you can pick up a crimp tool cheaply or borrow one if you don't have one. If you're going all-out, you can also replace the stock plastic female quick release component with a stainless steel version. Happy riding!
Great walkthrough. Think this or the AJP7, is going to be my next bike. Need something lighter than my current 890 Adv.
Just bought myself a 2022 Euro5 701. Fuel range is also an issue for me, however I am sceptical to mess around with the air flow of a Euro5 bike, that is already running very lean. Also Euro5 ECUs cannot simply be remapped! So i am now considerimg adding two 2l fuelfriends using the crash bars as fixation point. We'll see how that works.
Good video. Well thought out upgrades. Appreciate the explanations you gave as they made sense and were easily understandable.
Great video Dan. I don't have an adventure bike but can relate to similarities such as the exhaust on my BMW S1000R Sports with the catalytic converter. I decided to spend close to $1,000 on a proper set of headers and silencer with Black Widow in the UK. It is getting to the point where many parts can't be sourced here in Oz like they used to be. Looking forward to your next adventure ride. Cheers,
Thanks Steven. That S1000R must be a rocket with that full exhaust set-up. I have a 2013 Speed Triple, and every time I jump on my mate's S1000R, I have a massive smile. Such a refined bike and the power is awesome.
Quick tip for the fender bag is to drill a small hole on either side under the hooks for a cable tie. You can use them to stop it slipping down the guard.
Great idea Peter, thanks mate.
Got to say your video how you kitted out your 701 is an absolute help. The reason I am saying that is that after 15 yrs of riding BMW bikes finally selling both my xchallenges and a few other BMs and purchasing the 701. Still keeping my 1200GS Rallye but really looking at dropping some weight and just getting out in the backcountry on a much lighter bike. Good job
Glad it helped. Cheers
Hey Dan great detailed vid on the beast that is your 701... Im cutting my teeth in Adv Bikes on my DR 650 adding bits n pieces to it along the way....one day a 701 will be mine...one day !! Keep the vids coming mate...cheers Damo.
Right on Damo! That's awesome you have a DR 650. Keep a hold of that machine. Bummed they are no longer manufacturing the bush pig.
Fantastic great review thanks very much helps a lot Cheers
Great run down on your bike always good to see how others set up there bike. I have 22 model 701 and installed the Brittana Lynx Fairing great alternative to a rally setup.
Thanks mate👍 I do like the look of the Lynx fairing.
great video - keep em coming
Thanks, will do!
I’ve just placed an order
for a 701. I collect it from Lisbon end of March.
There isn’t much competition, perhaps the Kove 450?
I do wish it (the 701) was a smidge less powerful and also little lighter!! (I’d have bought a KTM EXC500 if it had a rear subframe and was a little more capable on the inevitable 60km road sections)
Awesome mate
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice looks great
Safe travels Cheers
Thanks Barry
Good and describing video, have already started on upgrading my 701 and will definitely check out your links to parts. I'm in the process of buying the RebelX tower as I reckon this is the best one, a bit expensive but we only live once 😀 Thanks mate for great input, looking forward to follow your channel 😀
Glad it helped. Can you really put a price on happiness 😅 Enjoy the 701 mate!!
Nice bike :)
Great video ride safe
Thanks 👍
I need one :) Thx for a good video
No problem 👍
You should have gone for things that you didn't replace mate lol.... seriously though great ADV build my build for my 690R Enduro is very similar I think the Motoz tyres are great and they're all tractionators my combo is a tractionator RallZ and a Enduro H/T. I think I got 4000 kms out of the RallZ which was a record for me. Keep your eye on the radiator supports KTM radiators are dodgy at best they need some other support especially with the heavier rad guard in my opinion I also run a supersprox 50T rear sprocket to a 15T Countershaft sprocket and a DID Gold xring drivetrain as I have seen a few OEM chains disintegrate under the load of those motors cheers. Thumpermad
Sidestand switch eliminate ✅😀😀
Thanks Dan for the set up, have a look the motoz dual venture front onto my second now and it goes well. Also go the quad lock induction charger for your phone it’s a game changer.
Cheers, Gary. Hearing good things about the dual venture, I will check it out. Thanks for the tip about the charger.
@@DKADV I don't like the DV tire. Where I live it's often wet and as soon as there is wet grass or some light mud the tire the tire slides all over the place!
Holy moly, that's a brilliant motorcycle. I'm riding the 501. It's a 2015 and I'm looking to move on in the next year or so. Debating the 701 or the GasGas 700. I just can't get the tarmac miles in on the 501.
Hit the button mate, you won’t regret it.
Nice bike Dan... you have built a cracking bike. It's interesting to see the where we have gone for the same bits and where our bikes diverge. I still love my Lynx fairing.... The difference the windshields make on a long trip are huge.... and it's nowhere near as big as the full towers. (Although I saw that Aurora have come out with a light tower which looks interesting).
I also love my cruise control. I'm just spoilt.
Take care
Brent
Very true mate. I just had a look at the Aurora Superlight. That could be a good option down the track. Cheers for the recommendation.
@@DKADV Hey Dan, are you happy with the Rade underseat tank solution? I think I'm going to pull the trigger on that before my next big trip.
@@brentbat Very happy with it. No issues at all. Good walk throughs on UA-cam on how to do the install 👍
@@brentbat if you get one make sure you get one with a plastic fuel cap and not the metal cap. Rade changed them along the way. Metal just rips your tank thread and makes it a b@stard to get on, the plastic cap I got under warranty works a treat.
@@k_plax thanks for the tip. Appreciated 👍
Thanks for the vid - very informative. Can I ask if you put any supports in behind the rear plastics to help with the weight of the Mosko Moto bags (if you did, could you please send me a link 👍🏼) Thanks, Steve A (Scotland).
Great video Dan. Interesting to compare to the mods I have done to the T7 - some the same others bike specific. Watching this was wondering what the on road weight of the 701 was after all the mods.
Good question. Not sure about the weight gains with the mods. I'll stop at a weighbridge next time I pass one.
Great vid, love it. Can I ask about the Hammerhead gear lever? Which one did you spec as Hammerhead say they don't do one for a 701?
Hi Jason, I got mine from Rottweiler Performance in the USA.
Here is a link to the one I ordered
www.rottweilerperformance.com/hammerhead-cnc-shift-lever-knurled-tip-690-701-enduro-sm/
When you added the Bar Risers did you have to lengthen any cables or brake line? I want to mount Rox 2" risers but it seems like there's only about 1/2" (13mm) free play.
Hi Rick, good question. I did not need to lengthen the clutch or the brake lines with the 30mm Vanasche riser I installed. Check out this review by Cross Training Adventure. Bob covers Rox riser and what height requires alteration to the cables. I found the review very helpful in my decision.
ua-cam.com/video/KvYdZ_z9-HM/v-deo.html
@@DKADV I do follow Cross Training Adventure. Not sure which KTM he has but I was thinking of having the bars lean back a bit to get them closer to me. I know it compromises tight turning but comfort comes first.
How are the revs at 110-120kmh freeway/transport stages with the 14t? And chain adjustment wasnt an issue?
It's fine, I have hardly noticed a difference in the top-end speed and revs. Still sits comfortably on 120+.
The stock chain does not require any adjustment, so if you give it a try it's very easy to switch back to the 15t if not happy.
Awesome! Do you have the link to front sprocket and also what helmet do you wear - would be great if you make a video about your gear. Thanks
Thanks mate. I run an Arai xd4 and highly recommend it. Definitely doing a gear review, which is currently in the works.
14t front sprocket - www.mxstore.com.au/p/Supersprox-KTM-LC4-Duke-Adventure-Front-Sprocket/10-KT2-13-c
Heat? Decat. I took the cat out of my Norden 901. Much less heat. Runs better too. 👍🏻👍🏻
The cat is inside the end can on the 701. That was the first to go.
Beautiful bike, i guess budget wasn't an issue🤤I have to 'make do' with a 2000 Transalp with many mods(no complaints). I'm also 6.3 so many mods for ergonomics, i could only fit 3 cm. bar risers or change all the cables. Maybe some progressive springs in the future. Btw i switched to Mitas tyres, great value for your money. Adv bikes, a good way to empty out your bank account, wright?
Mate, your spot on! There is plenty of cash to spend on the bike. I guess you can not put a price on happiness 😅
Nice setup I have a similar setup on my 690, I’m still a little undecided on a steering damper. Was it worth the outlay?
I’m really happy with it. Definitely worth the investment. Cheers
Great video, does the skid plate need to be removed for routine maintenance?
When I change the oil, I take the skid plate off so I can clean all the excess oil off easier. The plate is designed to do the oil change with it on. Very easy to remove and put back on.
Great build! What is the part number for the pre air-filter?
This is the latest version which fits the new air filter.

Do the wings heat guards on the exhaust pipe really work? How much heat do you still feel? Great video, thanks
Cheers Bret. The front heat guard is great and recommend it. I burnt a hole in a set of pants when I purchased the bike. No issues since. You could live with out the rear guard as the factory one is fine.
@@DKADV so you burnt your pants on the part that has the 2 metal bar’s welded?
@@bretleversha correct
Thank you for all the info! I have the same bike with almost all the same modifications. I also opted for the Rade Garage Rally tower. Still winter here - haven't had a chance to ride yet! I am trying to find the Tach/temp gauge you have on your bike, but without any luck. What is the spelling of the brand name? Thanks
It has an interesting name. Link below to where I ordered it from👍
berotec.de/product/cumpan-ktm690-hqv701/?lang=en
@@DKADV Thank you! just ordered it.
Thats awsome, how tall are you. Just want to know if the 30mm raiser is enough. I'm 6'5
Hi Robert, I’m 6’3. I could go a little higher, but I just bend at the knees to compensate. There are higher raiser available but you may need to lengthen the clutch and break lines if you choose that option👍
Dammit.. Just when I finally made up my mind of buying another 500/501 I discover your awesome channel and 701... Arghhh back to the drawing board 😂 how's the abs go offroad? Does it get in the way or do you leave it on?
The 501 is a weapon! You will be fine😂 No issue, it’s easy to turn off if it becomes an issue
Hey Dan have any issues with hwy miles with the 701? Does it cruise comfortably at say 100-110?
Cheers mate luv your channel 👍
Cheers mate. No issues siting on 110. I do a lot of hwy miles to get out to the bush. The 701 has plenty of punch on the hwy. Being a lighter bike wind can be annoying, but that can be fixed with a rally tower or small screen.
Where did you get the blue side fenders from?
www.bike-parts-husqvarna.com/701-enduro-2016/spoiler-set/parts_shop/32711/5497
Nice build, thank you for sharing. I went with many of the same mods as you did. You will find more details on my channel - please drop by. Cheers!
I don’t understand the Steg Petz.
Stability when standing
This video will help mate. stegzmoto.com.au
"I don't mind a bit of wind"! Sick and tired of idiots complaining about 'buffeting' on dual sport, adventure bikes! If you don't like wind, buy a Gold Wing or Land Cruiser. Remember folks, public opinion killed the XR650R.
You’re on the money there mate! 💯 agree with that comment 😂
On par with a D606 is not a compliment :-P
Please pass on your recommendation ???
@@DKADV Any Shinko or Motoz hybrid knobbie, pick one for your conditions.
That is exactly what I did 🤔
Great video, Dan...and nice to see some high country again. Question for you: do you take a spare fuel injector and/or fuel pump with you in your kit? I have heard of others "in the know" taking these spares with them due to past husky problems in these areas. What's your take on this?
After owing the 701 for a little while now preventative maintenance is key. Best bit of advice I have been given is treat the 701 like a dirt bike. Fuel pump is one I would take on a longer trip. They are cheap and can be thrown in the pack.
@@DKADV cheers mate! Happy trails.
