You made the right choice! Had mine for a couple years now and have done a couple dozen different mods/addons to it. One tip for you with the mosko gear, those straps that you had go around the holsters, those are actually for you to attach to the dry bag. Instead of clipping the dry bag to itself, you clip it to those straps and then tighten them down so that the bag is pulled down into the holster so it can't ride up over time.
I have the same bike, couple of tips. If you want to reset the odometer you only need to hold the right button. Also if you want to disengage TC and ABS you don’t need to move the bike after starting it. If you hold the ABS button it will flash so you know it’s disengaged even if the light is still on. Same thing for the TC…the light will be on but if you hold the button 5 sec it will still disengage it. You will notice as you start moving the bike the TC light will stay on instead of disappearing.

The power, the handling, the LC4 engine and its ability to cruise on freeways and even do single track are key factors. To me, this is the most under rated unicorn bike.

(The LR version was discontinued in 2021 but you can still buy it as an accessory) Which gives you 6 gallons of gas and it the fuel is held low for low center of gravity. You could travel 300 miles on 1 tank with that! It's fun to upgrade the DRZ but it needs a lot to be a true lightweight adventure bike.
Keep ‘em coming! I’ve had my 701 for about a month now and just about done making the usual mods. Unfortunately, I’m out for 6 weeks as I separated my shoulder yesterday riding my XC 450 in the woods. That trail you’re on looks pristine. Very nice.

I have the same bike, i think in off road mode 2 it lets you lock the rear wheel on the dirt, but keeps the ABS working on the front wheel. I made the mistake of keeping it in mode 1 on the dirt and almost didn't make around the bend as the full ABS was kicking in. Nice review👍
As I understand it, in map 2 when you turn off abs you still get front wheel abs but can lock the back. I know for sure that if you don’t turn off abs in map 2 then you can’t lick the back wheel. I tried and it the abs is so sensitive you can’t hardly stop the thing.

Great review. I have the 690 as a complement to my 350 and 1200, and its the perfect tweener for the reasons you describe. No doubt a luxury to have three bikes, but if you can - it's the one you want.... Get a rally fairing if you want to take it to the next level. I have one on mine and it was a great addition.

I really don’t know if it would be a big enough bike to carry a passenger and gear. I guess it depends on how far you’re planning to travel and the size of the passengers. If you or the passenger are pretty tall it would be a tight squeeze with bags attached to the bike. Plus I think the suspension will need to be setup with some heavier springs, etc. I guess it’s possible though. Sounds like you might need something like an 890 adventure or something similar.

I'm picking one of these bikes up from a dealer tomorrow (a 2020 with less than 300 miles on it... yeah, you read that correctly) and when you pointed out the saddle I realized mine is equipped with a seat concepts saddle. It appears to be a tall model saddle, and it's just a hint tall for me at ~6'. By the images, yours looks like a standard sized saddle. You appear taller than I am, so if you'd be interested in trying mine out LMK.
Hey, thanks for your comments. I actually have a seat conceits seat on their now. It is the tall seat and I can barely reach the ground at 6’4”. But it’s nice when I’m doing long trips to get to the dirt. Helps keep my knees from being at too steep an angle. Overall I love the seat concepts seats.
Hey man. I am considering getting one of those next fall. I rode from ETX to Creede Co this summer on my Norden 901 and met a guy with a brand new 701 Enduro. We swapped bikes and hit some dirt roads for a while and despite playing with settings I couldnt get the front tire off the ground. Is this typical? You mentioned it was pretty easy in 1st and 2nd but his only had a few miles on it and I wasnt comfortable dumping the clutch on a strangers new toy. His bike seemed to really be down on power at altitude as well so maybe that was a factor. I have wanted a 701 for years but that experience has made me really hesitant. Do you think I just wasnt doing the settings right?
It’s hard to say about the setting. If the TC light was illuminated orange then the traction control was off. My bike will wheelie without the clutch in 1st and 2nd gear while sitting in a normal riding position. Before I added the performance parts I would need to be high in the rev’s to do so but could still wheelie pretty easily. Looks like you and I have all of the same bikes....;-) Pop that Coober Piggy back module in, Rade Garage gas tank, rotty SAS delete and you will not recognize the bike. The power gains are unreal and it cruises at 80mph on the freeway effortlessly unlike stock. I am also converting to a rally bike with the Rade Garage tower etc. I also have a Beta 390RR and this bike is as much fun off road. Love this bike with all of these mods! Cheers!

@@upshiftingadventures4034 the cost and quality of the seat is hard to beat. Old seat on my bike was hard like a 2x4. Got the tall guy seat, extra padding for 230lbs, medium firmness. It's got about 700miles on it. Took a bit to fully break in. Before 40-50 miles was unbearable. Now, 100+ miles is comfortable.
What’s the fuel range on the 701? I have the GSA 1250 also that I fire road. Would love another KTM 300 XC but the 690/701 makes more sense for a second road legal adventure bike.
I get 120 miles to a tank. If I carry my armadillo 1 gallon fuel bladder I can get almost 200 miles. There’s also the LR version or aftermarket gas tanks that will extend your range.
Nice video! As luck would have it, I bought a new '23 701 from Fay Myers today. I was going to go with the KTM but chose the Husky instead for the 2 year warranty vs. the KTM's one year, and the two bikes cost exactly the same. These are expensive bikes and they have some complex electronics, the extra warranty the Husky comes with for "free" is a wise choice. Your Seat Concepts saddle looks very sharp with the matched graphics, and those mini crash bars are cool too. Ya can't buy a new dirt bike and not spend even more money adding crash protection and farkles. I have ordered stuff for my bike and it isn't even in my garage yet. I like buying bikes this time of year as it gives me time to set them up and go through them before the riding season kicks in. I live in Parker and ride where your vid was shot all the time, and head out to Fruita and Utah from time to time also. You are like my big brother from a different mother, as I also own an '18 300 XC for harder core off roading, and a Super Tenere for longer street and graded dirt road rides. I am with ya, there is no way I am taking the big over 600 pound ADV bike on anything remotely difficult. The 701 is my "in between" bike, and a return to my MC riding roots in a way, as I had an XL600 way back when that was my do it all fun machine. I look forward to exploring more of the forest service access off Highway 285 on the 701, and general hooning around on some of the local street twisties. I don't recall if you mentioned it, but this bike has a quickshifter, allowing clutchless upshifts and downshifts, which is pretty slick. Perhaps we could ride sometime since we are neighbors!

I've got similar bikes in my stable including a KTM 350 EXC-F, XR650L and GSA. Always wanted a 701 until the new Gas Gas ES700 showed up. Since the wife would beat me to death I'd have to sell the XR to be able to bring a new red bike in the stable. You look pretty tall. I'm 6'-7", how tall are you?
The manual says to check the valve clearance every 6000 miles . I'm not sure how much the dealer charges but I will probably end up checking it myself.
That was definitely a pain but I bought the tusk rear rack for the bike and now I can get the gas cap off without moving anything. I am trying to find a screw on cap to replace the factory key locked one. That will make it even easier.
I’d say it’s hard to define this bike. It’s a big dirt bike that you can also drive pretty comfortable on the slab for a long way. The broad power bs d makes it ideal for both slow speed dirt maneuvering as well as pavement cruising.
I had one of these a 2018 and got rid of it, huge mistake, my wife said to me at the shop when I traded it in, "you're going to regret this". She was right, I did the Mojave Trail, El Camino Del Diablo, AZ Peace Trail, all over Southern Utah as well. I found myself missing it insanely so, my wife said to me buy another one, so I did. I have 3 bikes now, 2023 Beta 300 RR RE , 2018 KTM 1090 Adventure R and another 701 new. Like you said in your video the big bike, I really thought I could do what I did on the 701, and yes I think I could but it is more work and I am not always sure of my skill level to do it. I've done hill climbs and such with my 1090 but oof there is a lot going on. My 2018 didn't have the traction control on the handlebar, that is so nice. When you talked about the passenger pegs, the blanks I put on, but every now and then when wearing a over the boot pant, they'd get caught on there, feels like when you have stirrups on a bike and your foot gets stuck, not cool lol. I had the puig smoked wind screen on mine, which I don't think I will do again, the air flow when working off road was sorely missed. I need to get my gas cap thing done asap, that cap can fill up with dust and your key breaks off in it, not cool. Great video, great info.
It’s so nice to have several bikes to choose from depending on the conditions you are going to ride. I have the KTM 300, the 701 and a BMW GS1250 so pretty much the same array as you do. Life is good.
how much different stock for stock is this than the 701 sm? i have a 701 sm and would like to put dirt tyres on it for a bit of trails and greenlanes but people keep saying it would be bad
The SM runs 17” tires front and back. That would be pretty hard to ride on dirt. I think you’d find your self frustrated on anything other than completely flat dirt roads.
No reason really. I have two other KTM’s and I love them. I think I just liked the idea of owning another odd ball brand. I know they are owned by KTM but Husqvarna has a great name in the industry and I thought it would be a great addition to my stable of bikes.
I think you said in video when orange TC light is on , TC is off ? Its the other way round. Orange light means TC is on . Wierd way of doing it , but heh , its European. Love your content. Loving my 701 here in adventureland of New Zealands South Island
So on the 701 Enduro, when you first start the bike, the TC is automatically activated and the TC light is on. Once you start to move, the TC light will go off, but the traction control is engaged. In map 1 almost know lift off is possible and the rear wheel will not be aloud to spin. In map 2 you can get a little more wheelie and there is a little more wheel spin aloud, but not much. When you push and hold the TC button for 5 seconds and disengage the Traction Control, the TC light will stay illuminated, and you can wheelie as high as you like and can spin the rear tire as much as you want. I think the theory behind have the TC light on when traction control is off is so that the rider is constantly reminded that traction control is off. The 690 motor makes great power near the top of the rpm range so if you wind the motor out in first gear and then get on the throttle, power-up wheelies are really easy. Of course, you can't stay there long because you are already at the end of the rpm range, unless you are good enough to shift while in a wheelie (I am not). That said, clutch-up wheelies are exceedingly easy in both 1st and 2nd gears. Very little revs are needed to bring the wheel up from a standstill. Hope that helps.

I think the DRZ is a fantastic bike but the 701 just does everything a little bit better.

That trail is on the rampart network. It’s great but very loose and sandy.
A few manufacturers make heel plates that have slots in for your luggage straps so you can get rid of the rear pegs

Great Job! At 5'9.5" with a 32" inseam, bike will be a little tall for me. I'm just going to do it and but one, life is to short to overthink.

I’m really happy with it. Does pretty well in the street for a daily driver but really good on dirt for shorter, close to home trips

Hi I have the same R40 Mosco set up If you take the foot pegs off and replace the pin back in the hole the straps locate around the pin works a treat.

I have a USB plug I can connect to the SAE cable I installed under the seat.

I’d say it’s hard to define this bike. It’s a big dirt bike that you can also drive pretty comfortable on the slab for a long way. The broad power bs d makes it ideal for both slow speed dirt maneuvering as well as pavement cruising.

Great bike only thing it needs is a steering damper. She shakes her head some when you crack her open.

I had one of these a 2018 and got rid of it, huge mistake, my wife said to me at the shop when I traded it in, "you're going to regret this". She was right, I did the Mojave Trail, El Camino Del Diablo, AZ Peace Trail, all over Southern Utah as well. I found myself missing it insanely so, my wife said to me buy another one, so I did. I have 3 bikes now, 2023 Beta 300 RR RE , 2018 KTM 1090 Adventure R and another 701 new. Like you said in your video the big bike, I really thought I could do what I did on the 701, and yes I think I could but it is more work and I am not always sure of my skill level to do it. I've done hill climbs and such with my 1090 but oof there is a lot going on. My 2018 didn't have the traction control on the handlebar, that is so nice.
When you talked about the passenger pegs, the blanks I put on, but every now and then when wearing a over the boot pant, they'd get caught on there, feels like when you have stirrups on a bike and your foot gets stuck, not cool lol. I had the puig smoked wind screen on mine, which I don't think I will do again, the air flow when working off road was sorely missed. I need to get my gas cap thing done asap, that cap can fill up with dust and your key breaks off in it, not cool.

It’s so nice to have several bikes to choose from depending on the conditions you are going to ride. I have the KTM 300, the 701 and a BMW GS1250 so pretty much the same array as you do. Life is good.
Funny enough I’m torn between this and the 300 xcw😂. I dont really need to long trip it but the versatility seems great.
No doubt it’s a bit heavier and a touch less maneuverable than the 300 but it really does behave like a dirt bike
how much different stock for stock is this than the 701 sm? i have a 701 sm and would like to put dirt tyres on it for a bit of trails and greenlanes but people keep saying it would be bad
The SM runs 17” tires front and back. That would be pretty hard to ride on dirt. I think you’d find your self frustrated on anything other than completely flat dirt roads.

Why did you choose the 701 over the 690?
No reason really. I have two other KTM’s and I love them. I think I just liked the idea of owning another odd ball brand. I know they are owned by KTM but Husqvarna has a great name in the industry and I thought it would be a great addition to my stable of bikes.

I usually have a firearm of some sort on me. I’ve never had to use it against wildlife though.

Loving my 701 here in adventureland of New Zealands South Island
So on the 701 Enduro, when you first start the bike, the TC is automatically activated and the TC light is on. Once you start to move, the TC light will go off, but the traction control is engaged. In map 1 almost know lift off is possible and the rear wheel will not be aloud to spin. In map 2 you can get a little more wheelie and there is a little more wheel spin aloud, but not much. When you push and hold the TC button for 5 seconds and disengage the Traction Control, the TC light will stay illuminated, and you can wheelie as high as you like and can spin the rear tire as much as you want. I think the theory behind have the TC light on when traction control is off is so that the rider is constantly reminded that traction control is off. @@oliviernormandin6390 here is what I have found. The 690 motor makes great power near the top of the rpm range so if you wind the motor out in first gear and then get on the throttle, power-up wheelies are really easy. Of course, you can't stay there long because you are already at the end of the rpm range, unless you are good enough to shift while in a wheelie (I am not). That said, clutch-up wheelies are exceedingly easy in both 1st and 2nd gears. Very little revs are needed to bring the wheel up from a standstill. Hope that helps.
