      Just as you said - same bike, different colour. Same story with GasGas ES 700.
      KTM has a but larger fuel tank than 701, I guess, about half a litr.
      There is a great series on MCN about 690 Enduro R, here's the link to the first of the three already published: ua-cam.com/video/gXNDUwfdBCA/v-deo.html

      Sir, I’m very tempted by the Rally kit from Belgium. May I please ask ?
      (i) How easy was it to fit ? Some of my spanner skills are very rusty !
      (ii) Does it get damaged when you crash ?
      (iii) Does it add weight to the bike ?

      Actually, I am riding in _almost_ all conditions, except for winter - here in Poland it's getting a bit too cold and too slippery to be riding. But other than that - yes, this is my only vehicle (as I say that the car belongs to my wife! ;) )

      I po długich rozterkach 890 czy 690 podjąłem decyzję. Idę taką drogą jak Ty
      Będzie 690 KTM Enduro R.
      Mam dwa pytania.
      Czy ten hiszpański wynalazek paliwowy naprawdę zmniejszył skłonność do gaśnięcia moto na niskich obrotach. Średnio to lubię w tym moto.
      Czy zmiana wydechu też w tym pomaga Czy tylko jest głośniej?

    • @rfk76
      @rfk76 3 місяці тому +1

      @@kemirsz sorry za późną odpowiedź ale byłem trochę wyjęty z rzeczywistości. Jeśli chodzi o fuel dongle to są bardzo różne opinie. Z moich doświadczeń wynika że przy standardowym wydechu fuel dongle pomaga ale trzeba liczyć się ze wzrostem zużycia paliwa. Jeśli jednak zmienisz układ wydechowy, a zwłaszcza końcówkę wydechu, wtedy fuel dongle nie jest już potrzebny. Tylko wtedy wiadomo będzie trochę głośniej niż z fabrycznym wydechem, ale prawda jest też taka że fabryczny wydech bardzo ale to bardzo się grzeje.

      Hey mate and thank you for the comment.
      Interestingly, I am considering some sort of 501/701 once again... it is truly an awesome machine.
      One reflection: if I was to do the build for me once more, I would strongly consider Adventure Spec fairing instead of my rally tower. It is much simpler and lighter solution for a bit of wind protection and having navigation in the sight area. Just a thought to share :)

    Rafał, świetny film. Na prawdę super. I idealnie wpasowałeś się z czasem, wrzucając go w momencie gdy właśnie rozstaję się z moim KTM 950 Adventure S. 950 to niesamowity motocykl, spełnienie moich marzeń. Ogrom mocy, niesamowite zawieszenie, prowadzenie, dźwięk. To jak ten ponad 240kg mastodont, gładko leci pełnym ogniem w poprzek zaoranego pola, to jest bajka.
    Pomimo niebywałej przyjemności z jazdy 950ką, ciężar i wysokość zawieszenia wersji S, dla mnie są dokuczliwe, pomimo że mam długie nogi, czasem braknie podpory w terenie, a wtedy lepiej go położyć i sprawnie uciec, niż próbować utrzymać pion i dać się nakryć. Nauczyłem się już żyć z ciężarem i wysokością przez wyczucie sprzętu i balans, ale czasem i to nie wystarczy. Gdy zdarza się kilka razy pod rząd podnieść tego kłoca, odczucia są równoważne ze zbliżającym się zgonem przez zawał serca, krwotok w mózgu i pękające płuca podczas udziału w zawodach z martwego ciągu 😁
    Dlatego już rok temu zastanawiałem się nad zmianą na T7, świat zwiariowal na punkcie tego motocykla, a akcja reklamowa filmików z Taresem spisała się perfekcyjnie 😉
    I rok temu prawie zrobił bym przesiadkę na T7, ale przez pewne kwestie musiałem poczekać. I okazuje się, że wyszło mi to na plus, ponieważ w w sierpniu wziąłem na jazdę próbną 701 z salonu MotocykleLublin. Pojeździłem nią kilka godzin, w terenie, na trasie szybkiego ruchu, więc mogłem już wyczuć co i jak. Po tych kilku godzinach stwierdziłem, że pomimo fajnej jazdy, super mocy i mega zawieszenia, 50tyś PLN za taką kosiarkę w jednym garze, to trochę dużo i T7 będzie bardziej uniwersalna, poza tym jak smacznie wygląda T7 😉🤩
    Ale parę tygodni temu, miałem okazję pierwszy raz przejechać się T7..... i miłość prysła. T7 to świetny motocykl, ale przesiadka z mojego KTMa na T7 była by akcją w stylu, "zamienił stryjek, siekierkę na kijek". Wagowo bardzo podobnie, ciężko, wysokość siedzenia na plus, bo niżej i można się podeprzeć, ale jednak waga ponad 200kg daje się odczuć w przechyle. Mocy odczuwalnie sporo mniej. Zawieszeniowo, może nie dramat, ale różnica ogromną, przez co i prowadzenie w terenie sporo gorsze. Czyli podsumowując, od wirtualnej platonicznej miłości, po bliższym poznaniu, T7 z bliska okazała się być dużo mniej atrakcyjna niż ja internety piszą 😉
    Stąd moja decyzja o zakupie 701, mega poręczność, niska waga, najniższa w tym przedziale pojemności, w opór mocy w stosunku do wagi, no i wisienka na torcie, mega zawieszenie, które znam z KTMa.
    Naogladałem się filmików i różnych komentarzy i trochę byłem przerażony, głównie przez MikeKomandosa 😁 który psioczy na 690 i wyszukuje ogrom defektów, ale pomyślałem sobie, że ja nie będę tego motocykla tak orał jak On.
    A dzięki Tobie i temu filmowi już całkiem jestem spokojny i wiem, że nie warto bać się tego motocykla, bo będzie dla mnie idealny, T7 może się chować w cieniu 😉
    Świetna robota, dzięki Rafał 👍👍👍

    • @CykloGamonie
      @CykloGamonie  2 роки тому +5

      Elferyk, nawet nie wiesz, jaką radochę sprawił mi Twój komentarz! :)
      Bardzo Ci dziękuję, bo dotarło do mnie, że jednak warto robić te filmiki, mimo tego, jak dużo jest bardzo podobnych treści na UA-cam. Bardzo mi miło i jeszcze raz dzięki. Cieszę się, jeśli mogłem pomóc.
      Przyznam Ci, że ja też dość długo czaiłem się do T7. Nawet wziąłem ją na 2 dni na jazdę testową z Yamahy, ale... nie zakochałem się. Nie była tak poręczna, jak moja CRF 250 (wiadomo!), a ten wysoki środek ciężkości nawet mnie raz pokonał... Wiedziałem też, że jak będę się na niej wywracał, to wcześniej czy później będę miał kłopot z wahaczem z uwagi na dziwny montaż wydechu (a w najgorszym wypadku - z ramą!). Jedyne, co mnie korciło, to niezawodność tej konstrukcji, na długie trasy to duży komfort dla psychiki. Gdybym, czysto teoretycznie, miał jechać jutro do Magadanu, to chyba jednak przeprosiłbym się z T7.
      Ale nie jadę do Magadanu. Jak wybieramy się w dalsze regiony świata, to (poza Kirgistanem) wynajmowaliśmy motocykle na miejscu. Zatem mój motocykl z założenia ma służyć do codziennej jazdy, mam mieć ochotę pojeździć nim w weekend po okolicznych dziurach oraz raz do roku ma być gotowy na wycieczkę typu Bałkany czy, może w 2023, TET w Norwegii.
      A do tego 701 jest o wiele, wiele, wiele lepszym narzędziem dla mnie niż T7 czy Tuareg. Nowy Transalp waży więcej niż T7 i bardziej jest na wycieczki w Alpy niż do czochrania po polach.
      Jeszcze kusi mnie myśl o 890 Adventure R, ale to znów 200kg+... może kiedyś, jak dorosnę :)
      Dzięki raz jeszcze i daj proszę znać, jak tam Twoje wrażenia po przesiadce z 950 na 701! :)

      I am happy you have found this video useful.
      If your plan is similar to mine (reduce the number of bikes to one), then 690/701 sits quite nicely right between CRF and GS. It won't be as comfortable in touring as GS, but it will be much more powerful than CRF and will bring a lot of joy off pavement.

      But if I were to buy a twin today and I would be tempted by 901 Expedition - superb engine, low center of gravity, amazing suspension, really useful electronics and it's off-road capabilities are undeniable. Good looking bike too! Have you considered a test ride with 901? :)

    I had a GS650, F800GS, another F800GS, a 1200 Adventure 2012 and finally a 1200 Adventure 2015. Once the last BMW, I took into account that they were amazing, but they penalized me in weight, as I love the most to be off road or bad roads. Many times I had to get some help to lift my bike again. Nowadays I own a Yamaha XTZ250 2012, and really now I become confident in going anywhere. It is a small bike, but I love the weight, and most important, I am not afraid of falling. For the near future, I will keep my old XTZ, but I would like to get a powerful bike, but not exceeding 160kg wet! I was thinking in the KTM 690 enduro R and in the Husky 701. This last is tubeless that is important for me. Any bike that can keep 120 k/h it is more than enough for me, and I hope in the near future, I will choose the Husky. Strong, powerful, trustable, and reliable to make my own roads. I hope I will choose the right stuff. Regards from Punta del Este-Uruguay.

    Very informative and well edited video!
    Coming at you from Colorado here. For me the 701 is the perfect bike for riding to and exploring Colorado's many high country trails. Also, after years of riding twins and 4's, it has been fun rediscovering the simple essence of riding a motorcycle big singles have, although once the revs are up and the throttle is wound, this smooth and hard revving engine may as well be a twin!
    I have done some of the same tweaks, particularly the fueling dongle O2 sensor delete, and AXP skid plate, which I also have on my KTM 300 XC. I think AXP makes some of the best skid plates on the market. Very interested in your side covers - are those replacement covers or do they fit over the stock ones? The big clutch cover looks especially vulnerable.

      Hey there Craig, thank you for the kind comment and regards from Colorado :)
      tripleclampmoto.com side engine covers are made from very similar material to AXP, obviously much thinner. And they just cover the stock ones. If you are riding rocky trails, then I would recommend to have it. Some say it brings the oil temperature a bit up, but after a year of riding in hot weather, I haven't observe fan coming on any often than usual.

      In regards to 701 vibrations - as you mentioned in another comment, newer 690/701 models have updated balance shaft + I also installed Progressive Handlebar Dumping System on my bike and I no longer complain about vibrations.
      It is still far from comfy when riding long distances on pavement. Last weekend I took a 600km long ride (including 110km off-road and rest of that on pavement) and I came back home numb.
      And those long stretches of highways are the only moment I think of my 850GS. Once I did 1509km on GS in one day (that wasn't wise, but I had the need...), I would never do that on 701 for sure.

      In regards to fuel capacity - yes, absolutely for long distance travelling LR version (or adding a fuel tank by Rade Garage) is much better.
      My current rage is ~250km on average (+/- 20km depending on riding style). For me here in Europe that is enough. Definitely for my everyday kind of use.
      If I would go to Kyrgyzstan again or to any other such remote area, I would make sure to take a fuel bladder with me (like Desert Fox or Giant Loop). And for those 2-3 weeks yearly, I believe that is a good solution. For all other days of riding in Europe, I do not carry additional weight of fuel and that is fine IMHO.

I subscribed to PR7 owners group here (59 members as of today, compared to 1.8K on 690/701 group) and I saw that those guys are facing too many challenges using their bikes here.
      I needed something with a local dealer and fast access to spare parts. KTM/Husky wins here in Poland by far in that regard.

The only 2 reasons for selling my Husky were a necessity for a bit more highway capable bike and passenger accommodation (and I have switched to 890 Adv R). Costs of the service at every 10k km was ~250 Euro (including valve checks)
      Riding off road is not allowed in Poland, this especially includes forrests. But there are plenty of legal offroad tracks like TET that you can travel without worrying about legal restrictions.

    What Tail Bag do you have? I didn’t see that one at 21brothers site. On the Wings exhaust, I’m using the cone at the front and the middle size diffuser at the rear. It’s similar to stock sound except there’s some nice pop under acceleration. .

    • @CykloGamonie
      @CykloGamonie  Рік тому

      Hey there and thank you for the question.
      So I've spent the whole 2023 season with the Wings exhaust with full silent kit, as I do not like to make too much noise. And there are three benefits and one downside:
      Benefits are: less weight, less heat and engine works smoothly from the very low rpm
      downside: when I was selling my 701 I went back to stock exhaust and I was surprised to see how much better the engine worked on high rpms. I didn't need to shift down as early as with Wings exhaust and overall I was impressed with the performance compared to Wings (again, Wings with full Silent Kit - as that is probably the key here).
      So, would I buy Wings again after that experience of going back to stock? No, I wouldn't. I would accept the weight and heat. I would add a fuel dongle to improve the low rpm behaviour and stick to the stock exhaust.
      I have tried Wings with all configurations of silent kit options and everything except full silent kit - it was far too loud for me.
      I hope this helps.

      Yes, the tower is an investment! I’m sitting on the fence, it’s not really necessary and is waay overpriced. you can pick some good led headlights, a gps mounting bracket and a screen for 1/10 of the price. Yet, it looks cool, and there are now several pretty and a little cheaper.
      Thought you’d have put on a steering damper, ever thought about it?

    • @CykloGamonie
      @CykloGamonie  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Vladimiro, thanks for the comment.
      Believe me, I've tried not to invest in the tower.
      To improve the light - I have bought the Cyclops LED - and it worked great (here's the video: ua-cam.com/video/NLcFcF_V-Zg/v-deo.html
      I have also bought a higher GPS mount, but... it looked like crap :/
      and finally, I tried to get myself some wind protection with puig windshield and this happened right away: ua-cam.com/video/ioznkjVeP-Y/v-deo.html this windshield was too close for offroad riding and I got hit in the helmet at less than 10km/h speed.
      So it is important to move the windshield away from you...
      and that all led me to buy the tower.
      I also bought it in presales, I had quite a few challenges in installation, but overall - I still think it made the bike much more comfortable for my rides.
      Steering dumper - honestly, I never felt a need for that... yet. Maybe it is because I am not riding fast, not pushing the bike too much. I dunno.
      Take care!

      and then I had this close encounter with the windshield, so I took both off the bike and bought the rally tower. Last year, for early adopters, the price was acceptable for me.
      If I were to buy tower now I would still probably buy the same one. Rade Garage is +500 Euro - I like it, it probably provides more wind protection, but the price is too high for me. Not going to mention Aurora, Nomad or others ;)

I was checking your mods because I just bought 701 and I'm making it "adventure-ready". I did a couple of TETs last year on my KTM 350 but it's not long-distance friendly ;) Two questions - did you consider putting on the stickers on the plastics to mitigate scratches and did you think about shortening the tail somehow - I'm worried it can get damaged easily on the first fall.

      In regards to your questions:
      - I used a tape to cover the plastics when I was using a reckless bag (Giantloop type of bag). I am considering adding a permanent 3M foil on the back where my luggage stays.
      - i have left the tail as is, because if often saves my back from mud. I agree it does not look good and a tail tidy would be nicer, but I am afraid I would need to wash my riding jacket much more often ;)

I would like to change for one only bike. People are telling me to go for the t7, but a little voice tell me that the t7 will not be the right bike for me, to linear, no personality, and as you say in your video, it depend of where do you live? In my case i have plenty of off road tracks around me, and i can be in Marroco in 2 hours... So maybe the 701 could be the bike? but i m a bit worried about a few things;
    - The reliability of the engine in the long term? I don't want to rebuild the engine every 10-15 thousand kms...
    - How is it to carry a passenger on this bike?
    - Can the subframe support a lot of weight?

      Hey there Edouard and thank you for the comment!
      1. I wish I had only 2h to Morocco ;) I am watching Itchy Boots ride there now and it looks amazing.
      2. Reliability of the 701 engine - to be honest my experience here is still limited, I have bought the bike as new and it has only about 12k km on the odometer. So far no issues.
      This engine has a long history, I understand most of the issues have been solved and with right maintenance you can rely on it.
      3. Passenger - I strongly believe the passenger foot pegs are there as a joke. Yes, for short commuting it could be used with passenger, but any longer travel would be an issue for both of you. But on the other hand, the T7 seat is no different, really. those bikes were not designed as a two-up travelling platforms in my opinion.
      4. Subframe in 690/701 is basically a plastic fuel tank. Again, as stated above, off road travel with a passenger would probably be an issue for the holding points.
      I do not feel like I have helped you, but if your passenger knows the comfort of travelling on the mighty GS, then 701 would be a disaster in comparison ;)

      Hey there and thank you for the question!
      I would say this:
      - at first you definitely can feel the difference in vibrations level between crf250 and 701, then you get used to it.
      - When riding longer stretches of highway the vibrations were causing discomfort for hands and arms, so I have installed the factory made Progressive Handlebar Damping System (PHDS, KTM catalogue part number SXS07125200) and now I am super happy with even full day, 700km long riding. Yes, you will feel the engine, but not in a tiring way.
      And the vibrations has been reduced a lot for 2019- models. I have no experience with older 690/701 bikes.

    Very interesting video! Thanks for sharing. I own an 1190 S KTM ADV and some times I am tempted to look for a big bore monocilinder as second Bike, for some on-off use. I was looking for KTM-Husky 700 (I had in the past the SMR510 2007, great fun bike) or an old Honda XR650R (hoped they were less priced nowadays but I found them to be not so distant from the 700). You did a great set up, Just one qestion, did you ever think to make your wheels tubeless?

      To be honest I have zero experience with making wheels tubeless, I know it is possible, but wouldn't it make wheels much heavier? And isn't a tube a better solution for off-road riding?
      As you can see I have more questions (with no clear answers;) than any experience.
      But it sounds like a great idea for the next video - I will do some research 🧐

    The fuel capacity seems not high. How do you handle this on trips?

    • @CykloGamonie
      @CykloGamonie  Рік тому +1

      That's right. Fuel tank is quite small, just 13 liters. The low fuel indicator comes up at about 220km and I am adding about 10 liters then. So the fuel consumption in the city is about 4,5 liters / 100 km. So the total reach is about 280km on full tank.
      Here in Europe fuel station is every other corner, so not a real problem here.
      For trips in the wild you can do two things: additional fuel tank from Rade Garage or take a fuel bladder. I went with a fuel bladder as it didn't make sense to make permanent changes like Rade Garage when 95% of my riding is here in Europe.

    Excellent, thank you. I have a KTM 890R which is a wonderful bike but with so many reported cam related issues as well as a few other things, I am reluctant to take it too far from home on extended trips and have been looking at the Suzuki DR650. However, after having a 95 hp engine, dropping down to 39hp, plus all the other upgrade mods to make it ride well, I'm not excited about the DR, except for it's legendary reliability. What I read about the Husk 701, seems to put the excitement back in. Would you take it RTWorld? Also, I am 171 cm and am concearned about the height, especially in stop and go traffic. Was that an issue for you? Thank you!

    • @CykloGamonie
      @CykloGamonie  2 місяці тому +1

      Hey there mate and thank you for the comment.
      1. Would I take 701 RTW? No. I would rather take CRF300 Rally or T7 for RTW. Just to have peace of mind. 690/701 is a great bike, but I've heard too many stories about issues with that platform (even with hydraulic clutch being fixed now).
      2. With 171 cm of hight you will definitely need a lowering kit as in stock form 701 was already very (very!) high for me with 180cm. With lowering kit you will loose some ground clearance, but without it you will have a bad time...
      3. I also own 890AdvR now and obviously I am concerned with the camshaft-gate too... but owning 890 I would never go to DR, and 690/701 would also be a signifficant step down in comfort and long distance traveling.
      Now KTM confirmed they will cover all costs of potential cam-shaft issues, so I am sticking to it for sure.
      Best!

      At 76 years old, I am finding the KTM 890R is getting a bit heavy so the much lighter weight of the 701 is attractive. And yes, I've lowered the, KTM so I would also definitely lower the 701.

      @@bikerabbi 👍 First of all, I am sure you will not be disappointed with the engine, it has plenty of power. What you will probably want to take care about are the vibrations (and there are some ways to reduce it) and comfort (seat is terrible compared to 890). To make it long distance travelling ready you probably think of many other mods, but the good thing is - there are plenty of aftermarket parts for this platform, so only your imagination is the limit :)

      But I would agree, for more in depth works on 890 I am definitely looking for professional service.

I see in many videos the bike stalling in slow terrain (in fact the new KTM 690 Video shows the bike either going very fast or stopped!). I want to ride slow so how does the fuel dongle work? Did the bike need remapping ? Thank you.

    • @CykloGamonie
      @CykloGamonie  2 роки тому +2

      Hey there and thank you for the comment!
      What you are describing is exactly the reason I have installed the fuel dongle.
      My 701 is 2021, so Euro5 model and it was stalling when going slowly off-road over obstacles (quite many times) and it wasn't running smoothly in the morning - just for the few minutes after starting the engine.
      I have installed the dongle and it basically fixed both issues - since I have the dongle, bike never stalled when going slowly and it is much smoother after starting the engine. Yes, fuel consumption increased a bit, as the fuel injector is providing a bit more richer mixture, but I wouldn't like to ride again without the dongle.
      Interesting fact is that @JohannesMotorcycleAdventures had different experience - he posted a video stating he did not feel any significant difference on his 701.
      After installing the dongle no special remapping is required - just please make sure to reset your ECU -> all you need to do is to start the bike and leave it running for 15 minutes. Here's the video: ua-cam.com/video/gnPzJ3I36oU/v-deo.html

    Hi, this bike sounds like my dream one. I still have one or more questions :
    - does it feel sometimes too heavy compared to the 250 you got ? I weight less than 70 kg for 1.80m, si I hope that it won't be a huge issue, especially with added luggages. I hope to be able to weely it with ease to bypass obstacles...
    By the way I believe that my absolute dream bike would be the same in 490cc - 125kg !
    - Also, would you consider making a custom saddle for two persons with two highs, finalising the real double usage bike ?
    NB: I ride a 125cc before getting my licence. Isn't it a too big jump in tell if power, knowing that Street and highway riding is somehow needed at some point ?
    This bike looks just crazy awesome !!!

    • @CykloGamonie
      @CykloGamonie  2 роки тому

      Honestly, I do not know why (maybe because of lower fuel tank?) 701 feels even lighter than 250 Rally. So do not worry about the weight at all. It is the same for 250 Rally and 701, but 701 still feels lighter in slow manoeuvres., obviously 250L is 144kg, so 10kg less than 701.
      I am not the one to answer about wheelies, but I saw that with 701 it is very easy to do :)
      From my point of view, 701 is not a bike for two people travelling comfortably. I might be wrong, but... I haven't seen too many cases like this.
      In regards to power - it is all up to you. You control the throttle and I know this bike can be as gentle as you want it to be. But if you will open the gas fast, it will respond vividly. And the traction control on Map #1 is for you to help manage this power. So... it depends on you and your skills. But I would definitely suggest to give it a test ride :)
      Thank you and best regards from already cold Poland!

    Czy to jest zwykły deflektor od majfriendów?

      a niestety nie - to jest deflektor Wunderlich - dość kosztowny, ale mam go od lat.
      Poszukaj Wunderlich Vario Ergo Plus 3D. Pozdrowienia!

      Dzięki za informację, bo sam szukam, właśnie mocowaniem trochę podobny, a jakością jakoś nie pasował mi na taką markową owiewkę :)

    i have ktm excf 250, my impression is just like riding a jack hammer. the vibration is more than you can handle. engine sound is so noisy, engine heat burn my thigh.
    but so many people like this bike, it doesnt make sens for me

      oh, that is a very different breed of bike.
      701 vs excf 250 is night and day. Not much to compare among those two.
      All the best Catur Skak!

      Hey mate! Thank you for the comment and let me tell you I watched your videos before 😁 your video made for Johannes about a year ago was also an inspiration for my list of mods (including the net on the back!).
      Thank you for dropping by and I am looking forward to seeing your next videos! Cheers.

    I would be using an enduro helmet, not a road one.
