  • As technology takes over health care, we have to reimagine health care. People aren’t happy with it - they’d prefer not to have to use our services. Ultimately, this is about increasing well-span within a person’s life-span, because everyone wants to be healthy. Better, more precise, more affordable health care has something in it for everyone - patients, providers, and people who pay the bills. In the world of connected and personalized health care, patients expect care to be available when and how it’s most convenient and safe for them. David Lubarsky, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.S.A., is the CEO for UC Davis Health, based in Sacramento. UC Davis Health has 17,000 employees, 1,000 students, over 1,000 trainees, and 1,300 faculty members. UC Davis Health provides about 1.5 million- plus outpatient visits yearly and has an annual budget of over $4.25 billion. Dr. Lubarsky was recognized by Modern Healthcare in 2022 as one of the “100 Most Influential People in Health Care.” The Sacramento Business Journal also honored him as a “2021 Most Admired CEO,” and Becker’s Hospital Review named one of America’s “100 Academic Medical Center CEOs to Know.” Dr. Lubarsky oversees UC Davis Health’s academic, research and clinical programs, including the top 10-ranked UC Davis School of Medicine, the top 25-ranked Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, and the top 50-ranked UC Davis Medical Center, and a 648-bed Level 1 Trauma hospital ranked among the nation’s best. UC Davis Health is an innovation hub for biomedical discoveries. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. The future of AI in healthcare is transformative and has the potential to improve diagnostics, drug development, and personalized medicine. As mentioned, AI can analyze large amounts of data quickly, identify patterns, and generate predictions, helping doctors make more informed decisions. The future is bright. “May the force be with you.”

It makes sense to allow technology to process the normal data, so that clinicians can quickly address the abnormalities.
