I have also been researching this topic. What about dropping the tank to upgrade the fuel pump? Also add money for upgraded fuel lines, and for me, top feed rail + big cc injectors? My guess is closer to $4500. For that I can almost pay for a complete Gen3/4 swap.

Can I make payments on a flex fuel system?

You need 1.39 gallons of E85 or 1.5 gallons of E100 to get the same amount of energy as 1 gallon of gasoline. So if you need to use more E85 to get the same amount of power as Gasoline, why do it? Because E85 & E100 resist detonation like crazy. This means you can run much higher boost levels, and make more power with E85. But you use a lot more of it. So, you need much bigger injectors and a higher flowing fuel pump. The inline GM flex fuel sniffer checks what is actually in the lines to adjust your injector open times and timing. Let's say you have a tune for straight gasoline, and another for straight ethanol (E100). But you have exactly half a tank of gas and half ethanol...effectively E50. A good aftermarket ECU will extrapolate between your two tuning tables to safely optimize running on an E50 mixture or E whatever.
