Regardless of PS5 or Series X you're still getting insane performance for the dollar. Prior to launch many people thought the RT would be RTX 2060 S/2070 tops. Here we are getting 3060ti/2080 S perf. It'd be like PS4 or XB1 having gpu equivalence to an R9 280X/GTX 770. *Edit:* I don't want to gloss over the 8c/16th Zen 2 cpu either. So, it'd also be like PS4 and XB1 having the equivalent to a decently clocked i7 4c/8th instead of the ultra cheap Jaguar cores.
Did you watch 13:10? This isn't a like for like comparison... PC is using g higher settings causing it to be hit harder than the PS5 who's settings is lower than PC can get to. Its weaker than what the chart showed, and ge pointed that out multiple times.
I feel like a lot of launch titles aren’t truly next gen, more of a supped up current gen, like the developers made the games for last gen then gave it a little extra, so curious to see what will happen when they stop making it for last gen
This happen in every new generation, I mean they were probably developing BO:CW since 3 years ago and got hand of the new consoles devkit probably a year or less ago so you can imagine why it is always like this.
Idk if that's true seeing as developers get development kits way in advance of the console release so they know the hardware way before we ever even know about it
This comment section is funny: "why they have to zoom? if you don't make zoom you can't tell the difference, Digital foundry is crazy" they use the zoom to be able to match the PS5 settings on PC as much as they can so they can make a fair comparison, isn't this obvious? and yes, Ps5 is a really impressive machine but you can't compare price the same way you compare graphics, the PC can do much more, not everybody spend 2k on a high end pc just to play videogames, or watch Netflix, I think this is obvious too, anyway, it was a great video.
Seriously though, I wouldn't see those burning shadows and missing icicles or that slightly lowres fire effect when the game is in motion. It's already difficult to see in the freeze frame zoomed in view. Definitely wouldn't notice at normal tv viewing distance even if standing still. It's good to see a relatively cheap console getting so close to pc high settings which need a beefy system to run the game at.
You will "FEEL" the difference when the framerate drops....I guarantee it. I moved up from a 60hz monitor, to a 165hz monitor on my PC, the difference is incredible.
The consoles need an upscaling technique like DLSS, I think that would give us much more promising results both the image quality and performance-wise.
Afaik AMD is working on an RDNA2 compatible technique with the aim to make it work on current gen consoles as well as their PC GPUs. We just gotta hope it's more DLSS2.0 than 1.0 in its competence.
I'm glad we've gotten to the points in graphics that most of the imperfections are minor enough that it doesn't really matter. Good graphics for everybody
@Sam Houser 7 years?..........yikes. they will start to struggle in a few years and everything will be back to 30fps on all games. thats just the cycle. hence why MS will probably bring out a new console every 3 years or so. Sony will probably do the same. but they are all PCs now inside so tradition generations are at an end.

That can happen in some games where devs dont do much with textures and more but still give the game different setting levels. Tho somehow you still get fps hit hard on ultra even if you don't see a difference. It's weird.
The bottom point is, there is too much of a performance hit to justify increasing the graphics higher than necesary, when actually you don't notice any change during gameplay...
@@vampiszon6620 Well some games theres a lot of difference like with Metro Exodus settings, but yeah with this game where ultra settings tanks fps with not much difference it makes no sense to be up there. Tho RT shadows and such is noticeably better on PC like in the helicopter part.
Firstly, the 3090 is an absolute BEAST. It’s crazy how it chews through that workload like it’s nothing. Secondly, it’s crazy what the PS5 is able to do at that price. $500 for that kind of performance is unreal. I’m excited for this gen, and how these consoles are going to allow gaming to look and feel so much better. *Edit* I recently purchased the $500 disk version. I never would have purchased the digital version due to my collection of PS4 games. I’m aware that there is a $400 version, but $500 was fresh on my mind.
I'm just happy the consoles have SSDs for once. Maybe in the next 2 years engines will no longer need loading screens. Hard drives on the consoles has really been holding that progress back. I remember when I bought my PC and started over Just Cause 3 which I just beat on PS4. On PS4 loading screens were 30-1:30 in length. On PC, I never had a single one over 10 seconds with the average being only 3-5 seconds. SSDs really make a world of difference.
Imagine the xbox series x.... I have an rtx 3080 and I’m still impressed by the 500usd console performance, I absolutely love both my and xbox, looking for a ps5 to complete the master trinity.
To be honest, I can run the game at 4K 60 with ultra ray tracing on a 2080S (DLSS is just the future) Users who just need to upgrade the gpu, the RTX 3070 seems like a better deal, pc is always a better option if you can go the extra mile
@@charlygmp4900 might be fighting the availability for the next 6 months yet. Not expecting availability to get better any time soon. Though you somehow got a 3080 so guess anything's possible. @@Damstructions-funny if you want that you'd need tensor cores which would bring the cost up for the added hardware it requires which would at that cost just be a low end pc
@@Damstructions-funny Thats the problem. Sony did not use any part of RDNA 2 from AMD to make this possible. But Microsoft did in the XBSX. DLSS is not a cheat code from software. It uses the extra tensor cores in RTX cards that are designed for AI and ML. AMD does not have this in there GPUs. That is why ray tracing on AMD cards and these consoles are so taxing on the system. I dont see a pro version coming out any time soon about 3 years from now maybe.
In my country they are super easy to find. If you want to pay at least €750 for it (stores have no stock, scalpers do) Luckily I was planning to get one in May anyhow, let's hope that by then the stock is more common.
The Target restock here in the US was supposed to be huge, and it was gone in 3 minutes or less. Probably 3 minutes of refreshing and reloading before you get a "sold out" message.
That's what I like to call intelligent cuts. They made the cuts in a way that makes it hard to see at all from a naked eye. So the game looks Super close to the PC version because of the Raytracing being kept and the cuts being in certain elements of the technique. I hope more devs use this and tweak games to retain as much Raytracing as possible without hitting the Framerate as much because raytracing off and raytracing on is night and day but an in between method like this is hard to notice unless you are sensitive to it. PC is still best by far though but I love how close Consoles are this time around. The PS4 was no where near as close to PC when it launched so seeing PS5 and Series be so close is a nice change.
Thank you so much for going back and covering this one. My family owns the game on both PS5 and an RTX 3080 PC. I was genuinely impressed with the visuals on PS5 even in the 120Hz performance mode. Consoles will never look as good as a top-of-the-line PC, but the PS5 is an impressive piece of tech right now at the $500 mark.
Also have to keep in mind how you're viewing the video tho difference become more apparent on the appropriate screen. Examples a phone screen with high pixel density vs 1080p tv vs 4k tv with high refresh rate etc. But yeah ultra is usually just for bragging rights XD

The PS5 is nowhere near the 3070. Lol As said in the video the GPUs were performing lower than they should of due to particle effects and such being higher on PC than PS5, causing them more hits to fps than theps5 since it doesnt have those effects. @@pcgameboy8407 They weren't able to conclude how heavy the effects of the particles would be. A separate test with assassin's creed valhalla with more comparable settings found the ps5 in line with a 2080, and that makes sense here too. The PS5 was under the 2080 super. Both AC and this benchmark shows PS5 is most likely at 2070s range, not counting DLSS which put the 2070s above the PS5 even with that hit to fps.

It's why I turned a lot of the settings to high/ultra for the campaign. After I beat it, I just uninstalled the ultra hd texture pack and turned everything down to low/medium because I'm literally not going to notice the difference running around on MP but the framerate boost definitely would help.
Nah it happens the same every console generation , as devs learn the ins and outs of a console, usually 2 or 3 years down the line, they peak out on the consoles max performance then it will start to trail behind PC a lot in terms of power but the value of your money when buying a console isn’t going anywhere anytime soon
I see that some people here write in comments that the PC won. But someone can tell me why I should buy a $ 1,700 PC (with RTX 3070) instead of a $ 399-499 console? @@ConstantineBerdnikov Lol, no. PC gaming still = GTX 1060 at this point. If you're picking a card that came out literally the same year the new consoles arrived it's just proving my point.
Doubt it. The ray-tracing settings are baked in and designed for the higher resolution the PS5 is targeting. At 1080p you'll get the benefit of downsampling. Since the PS5 is always rendering the image above 1080p you won't notice any drops in resolution like you would on a 4K display. ...The option to trade resolution for better rt would be cool. However, that type of granular control is still exclusive to PC. Most console games will probably provide rt on/off.
No, the system supersample/upscales regardless of the output resolution. 120hz mode, standard mode with ray tracing off and ray tracing on are the only settings that will change how the game runs.
Simple answer is no. These new features (ie raytracing) are designed for 4K in mind. Often as others have said, is that the internal game engine renders the “rays” at 4K, so unless your display can also render/display at 4k, you won’t see the results. You will still get the advantages of Supersampling to the 1080P display, but the difference is extremely subtle, and only the keen eye will really see a major difference. If you can afford to get a 4K Raytracing graphics card/gaming PC, you can surely afford to get a 4K HDR display. I wouldn’t even recommend building a Raytracing PC unless you already had a capable display. Putting Ferrari tires won’t make your Civic any faster. Sure if you put a device to it you might notice a 1% performance increase, but no one will notice that without the measuring device. Those tires are meant to be used on a Ferrari, hence the name. That 4K Raytracing gaming PC is your tires, and the 4K HDR monitor is the Ferrari, without the two of them together, it’s essentially pointless.

I recently purchased the $500 disk version. I never would have purchased the digital version due to my collection of PS4 games. I’m aware that there is a $400 version, but $500 was fresh on my mind.
400$ for ps5 digital edition. That one is absolutely insane.
I'm just happy the consoles have SSDs for once. Maybe in the next 2 years engines will no longer need loading screens. Hard drives on the consoles has really been holding that progress back. Not only that, but you probably ran out immediately to pay a scalper price for RTX 3080 and enjoy the clock model and grass without halo effect in all it's glory (dare I say "as it's meant to be played") xD
The amout of work done on this video analysis is phenomenal.
The SSR setting on PC doesn't work, I'm surprised you saw a difference when you set it to high, leave the menu and go back, it'll be back on low

I think is similar with the ps5, but the whole point of the comparison is that scene where the ps5 runs at native 4k cause of a bug in DRS implementation, which makes more easier to compare with pc .
It's the same on both consoles

So where is the XSX vs PC comparison?
The ps5 and xbox versions are literally the same, it be a waste of time to compare both of the consoles when you can nab the console with the bigger fan base and use that instead of ps5 AND xbox
because they are like 1 FPS difference at the same settings
@FreedomAreComing id 100% much prefer xbox to ps5 beacause of gamepass, but when the the consoles are performing the same on a game, its better to use the PS for the "___ vs PC" since PS are good for views
Unbelievable amount of work you put in here
"At 600% we can see the PS5 really suffers because the button on the alarm clock is less round..." LOL!!!
It was actually very round lmao
Well, actually the PS5 managed to keep the button round.😉
So the ps5 performs similarly to the 2080 again just like valhalla? I'm interested to how gamers Nexus got the results that they did tbh
the games tested and only focusing on 120fps.
Maybe in this game. But in many others it performs like a 2070 and sometimes 2060. It all depends on the game, what's happening on screen, and of course optimization.
He got those results by cherry picking certain scenarios, and using backwards compatible PS4 games. You must remember he's a PC fanboy, and his channel revolves around that crowd. But the results he got were baffling.
While ps5 is running lower than low effects and df stated that they chose the most disadvantaged scene for pc😂 it's 2060s-2070 my boi, not 1060 or 2080
Their testing was garbage, and full of nitpicking. It's a PC focused channel, people who watch that channel don't buy consoles, so it doesn't matter really.
Can you do a Destiny 2 PS5 vs PC? How does graphic details, game performance and response times differ?
Its like ps4 vs PC just resolution bump and 60fps
The pc performance of this game for me on pc has been garbage. It wasn't like this before. The performance degraded for some reason
I’d rather see Godfall PS5 vs PC because Destiny 2 is just a backwards compatibility patch.

Could you guys do a review on the xbox one x and series x, showing how 120 hz mode doesn't work on all monitors that actually support it. This has been an ongoing issue for years now. Many of us hoped that it would be fixed on the new consoles, but it isnt. Maybe you shining a light on this would get them to fix it. I was told a update would fix it on the One X, but it never came.

There is no point
1- this video was PS5 because of a Bug in dynamic resolution , the cutscene was stuck at native 4k causing the FPS to drop , making it ideal for comparison against pc
2- the Valhalla video ?
The scenes they were comparing were the ones running at the lowest Res which 1440p on ps5 , to match 1440p on pc
Those scenes are 1188p on series X so what's the point.

Nice video. But in the PC comparison chart you are basically saying that the ps5 performs almost at a 6800 level despite having half as many CUs, SUs and TMUs, while having less ROPs and bandwidth as well. Interesting. I'd love to know the reasons behind this.
Playing on PS5 I noticed your character does not cast any shadows. The level where you walk through the bombed out snowy base, your character casts zero shadows. Even though the environment does
@Alâ In what fucking universe is that relevant to the original comment?

I will not lie, I love to see consoles being able to match up to PCs that cost almost triple.
Well, that's what it's supposed to do. It's sold at a loss and is mass produced.
Especially after PC gamers say everything possible to make it sound like consoles are lightyears away. Comparing them to video cards is pretty daft but many of them do it. Consoles have always been about optimization

When you have to resort to zooming in by 400-800%, is it even worth trying to make a comparison anymore? Honestly, who is going to get out their binoculars and play the game?
Comparison was for perf different with graphics parity which still wasn't achieved but gave a rough idea to the viewers.
It makes it easier to see where settings are.
I made the same argument 4 years ago with reconstruction techniques, but apparently 500% zooming and slow motion while you are playing a game was vital back then.

I remember when the PS5 was considered a 2060 super and not even 2070. From that to almost 3070 is damn impressive.
I always wondered how the consoles could pull off fractured jaw with RT. Even a 3080 has issues with that level. Also a little shocked the 2070 S was so outpaced by the ps5. Lastly, this is how you do a pc to console comparison-GN take note!
Well ps5 has some bandwidth heavy settings below low. And once you enable dlss which still takes diespace and money, so everyone should a enable it and b use it in comparisons, it beats the console by a huge margin.
Still hoping a switch pro gets dlss.

@@ConstantineBerdnikov Lol, no. PC gaming still = GTX 1060 at this point. If you're picking a card that came out literally the same year the new consoles arrived it's just proving my point.
I've a question: if I play in 1080p, are there any improvements for ray tracing and the other effects?
Doubt it. The ray-tracing settings are baked in and designed for the higher resolution the PS5 is targeting. At 1080p you'll get the benefit of downsampling.
Since the PS5 is always rendering the image above 1080p you won't notice any drops in resolution like you would on a 4K display. ...The option to trade
resolution for better rt would be cool.
LOL. I can't wait to tell someone "That ray tracing is boiling!"
This is brilliant. You've done what I have essentially wasted so many hours of my life doing for dozens of games over the last two decades, anytime I had a game for console and my higher end PC. Please do more of these!!
PS5 is Impressive for the price, but I'd still prefer even a mid end gaming rig with a rtx 2060 and a ryzen 5 if short on cash. Because of the freedom, cheaper games, life span and free online and of course pc being a necessity while a console isn't.
its funny how you need 800% zoom and special explanation just to understand if rtx is on or off
You don't. You only need functioning eyes. The zoom is needed to analyze the visual quality of the RT..
It's much more noticable when you game actually. Videos just don't do justice to raytracing most of the time.
