This score does so much to encompass the wonder and mystery of space, and it succeeds a hundred times over!! This score is so good that it could have been used in the film, "Interstellar." Not taking anything away from Hans Zimmer, but this piece of music is too awesome for words. RIP Mr. John Barry. You are greatly missed, sir.
You are so right thats funny the same though goes thru my mind when I hear this everytime I watch moonraker, Barrymore also did the blackhole movie soundtrack from 79 another example of genius composing
I watched Skyfall again tonight and one thing I thought of when it had ended was "man, I really miss John Barry". One of my all time favourite film composers. He was so epic. As cheesy as some people think Moonraker was, I actually think it's such a fun, entertaining film and Mr Barry's score elevates it to another level.
John Barry is easily one of the top 5 greatest film composers of all time. I would personally put him in the top 3, in fact. Only a genius like Barry could take the most silly and outlandish Bond plot and have the scenes still bring me to tears because of how beautiful and profound the music in them is.
Richard keil was one fine actor, superb physical specimen to play an iconic villian like Jaws and even more superb acting ability!!!! One of my favorite actors!!!
Totally regret not meeting Richard Kiel. He was at a horror/sci-fi convention the year before he passed. He - was my favorite villain in the 007 series
Very epic song. This 6 minutes contains little standalone masterpieces bound together by the main theme. There is something gentleness and harmony in the accords. It is free from overkilled fanfares compared to other hyped space themes. In some cases I think the fanfares are actually there for hiding lack of creative ideas . And Mr Barry did not need fanfares and overthriumphing motives.
My favorite part is from 1:45 to 2:14. In the film, Bond says something like "This operation is like Noah's Ark" and you begin to realize that Drax is about to kill all the people on earth... goosebumps
This is one of the best James Bond soundtracks in my opinion. The part at 2:13 always reminds me how tense this scene is, it always brings me very good memories from watching this great movie as a kid. JB is a legend, and so are Roger Moore and John Barry. RIP
I love moonraker, its scope, atmosphere and mystery never let me down, as a child watching it for the first time my mother said I never blinked or moved for the entire film! Its pure magic. If I'm ever in a dull situation I just relive this wonderful scene in my mind and ,m away again!!! X
As an impatient 14 yo space fan ( in 1979 awaiting the STS program to get underway), I remember going to see this with my friends & being AWESTRUCK watching these later scenes in the movie. Definitely wouldn't have been the same without Barry's AWESOME score!!
I've always noticed, and I've seen no-one else comment on it (forgive me if you have and I missed it...), but the movie has an additional 15 seconds of music that starts at 5:29 that is not in the commercially released track. It's a great 15 seconds too!
This recording isn't the film version - the soundtrack CD/LP programme was re-recorded by Barry after the film was scored. There are noticeable differences in several key cues, particularly 'Corinne Put Down', where the film version has a much greater focus on the piano as opposed to the soundtrack album. Fingers crossed we'll get the full film versions released one day!
Probably the best song i've ever heard in a Bond movie. The part from 5:29 to 5:59 is absolutely amazing. I get an unexplainable feeling when i hear it. "Bond Lured Into Pyramids " is another beautiful song from Moonraker.
Between this and Spy Who Loved Me Bond movies hit the absolute top. The others have been good to great but never as magical. At this point they had perfect lead in Roger, amazing leading ladies, music was phenomenal and stunts that today would be breaking the law
Dispite Moonraker being a rediculous film in my eye, this piece is always my light at the end of the tunnel. If you turned on the television and saw the scene where this music is played, you would think you were watching the lost third Space Odyssey movie... and then Roger reappears and you're like, "Ha!"
Buried in Moonraker is a really good science fiction movie if it wasn't a campy Bond flick. When you have uber wealthy people like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk with aspirations to expand into space, the idea of a rich industrialist building a space station and using it aa a means to exercise dominion over the Earth isn't so far fetched anymore.
the music from Moonraker and especially this epic piece is just unreal. John Barry was just at the very top of his game for this film. The entire soundtrack is just an master at work.
One of my favourite childhood james bond movies, made even better with this amazing soundtrack , thankyou john Barry , Roger Moore, Richard kiel and Michael Lonsdale RIP
@@jmack8767 The problem with Zimmer is that the music he and his trainees produce is very frequently synthesized with prerecorded orchestral sounds. The old Barry soundtracks are true performances, and often recorded so quickly and with so few takes that you can hear the mistakes by the performers. There's so much more humanity and warmth in the old music.
John Barry really outdid himself with the score for Moonraker. Personally I think it's one of the absolute best Bond movie scores. Say what you will about the movie itself, but the music retains its power.
It must be pointed out to detractors of this particular Bond film that the space shuttle was a Very Big Deal in America at that time. It represented The Future. And the country was already sci-fi crazy due to the sensation begun with Star Wars in 1977 (which directly influenced the making of Moonraker). I saw it in a packed audience which responded enthusiastically: gasps when it was clear Drax was going to feed Corinne Clery to the dobermans; lots of laughter at Richard Kiels antics as Jaws; and Cheers from the entire theater when the US space shuttle showed up to save the day. This film made a lot of money because in those days Bond was fun!
Well said. I agree with a lot of what you say. I really liked seeing this in the movie theater and had a similar experience as you. And at this time, most Americans, myself included.....were feeling very good about America creating and developing the Space Shuttle (especially with the peak interest in space). And hence the US space shuttle saving the day was very moving. And Bond was probably more fun in those days.....because of Roger Moore. I thought he was the best Bond character. And JAWS was a pretty cool villain. I loved all of the Roger Moore and JAWS Bond movies with Moonraker at the top. John Barry's Moonraker music was/is great and PERFECT for this movie.
John Barry was one of the great monumental film composers along with Bernard Hermann. Their scores sent chills up your spine and were thrilling and inspiring.
If it wasn't the fact that I am such a Bond and John Barry fan if I heard this for the first time this could be up there with some of the greatest pieces of classical music ever composed along with Beethoven, Mozart and Handel
only with good soundtracks you feel the old rinkle down your backspine again, like you only had when you were still a kid sitting on the carpet, watching at your favorite movie.
My all time favorite track from the James Bond-movies! John Barry, God Bless His Soul, could really make sensitive space music... Now he creates from above.
Barry came back after a couple of movies off, and confronted with the most cartoon Bond movie ever made (not that that's a criticism) created the deepest and most thoughtful Bond soundtrack he ever made. And it worked. My God did it work! Did he ever make better tunes? Body Heat maybe but probably not.
This is the perfect companion piece to John barry's other outer space masterpiece score,The black hole!!! Both has that same graceful style, both beautiful and very complex. Just recently got the complete score to Moonraker on CD, what a gift! Especially after the original edition left out so many cues, even left out the famous bond theme. John's beautiful theme as bond approached the drax estate by helicopter was also left out. But now being able to listen to it via the complete editon is an absolute genuine gift to me and im very sure to all movie music enthusiasts!!!!
RIP Sir Roger Moore. Now you have left for the stars.
Yes, R.I.P. Sir Roger Moore. But, Roger Moore did not make the music. His job was to look good in front of the camera, for her majesty's government.
Roger Moore was and will always be my favourite James Bond.
And has John Barry
Now Sean Connery
Naturally
John Barry (1933-2011): Brass and Woodwinds will never again sound that warm.
Under-appreciated comment, if ever...
Barry got into Brass when he was doing his National Service in the Army.
My favourite Bond film - Sir Roger made Bond fun and entertaining. RIP. What a soundtrack.
👍🏻👍🏻
Second Bond I saw in the cinema. I am always fond of it too.
Yes.
Say what you want about the film but this music is sensational
Taking a Bond movie to this level of John Barryness is not going to happen again. Make sure the coming generations don't miss out on this one
This score does so much to encompass the wonder and mystery of space, and it succeeds a hundred times over!! This score is so good that it could have been used in the film, "Interstellar." Yeah, 2:14 reminds me Interstellar's docking scene
A hundred times over💯
A big reprise to capsule in space from You only live twice in fairness.
Mr Bond.
So true-magnificent comment!!!-☻🌐

"And the animals came in two by two"
Yes mr drax.
R.I.P. Sir Roger Moore (1927-2017)
"A genuine Faberge egg." My favourite Moore Bond line.
John Barry is easily one of the top 5 greatest film composers of all time. I would personally put him in the top 3, in fact. Only a genius like Barry could take the most silly and outlandish Bond plot and have the scenes still bring me to tears because of how beautiful and profound the music in them is.
My favorite part: 1:44. "And the animals went in two by two."
Noah's Ark; this whole operation
And the way the music hits it as the sun rises over the crest of the Earth and the silhouette of the space shuttle.
Roger Moore and John Barry represent a fantastic era of Bond movies that we will never see again
I remember loving 'Capsule in Space' from You Only Live Twice, then this comes along....
RIP Richard Kiel
Not just a "Bond actor" but virtually a "Bond icon" !
RIP richard kiel.. you used to scare me when i was a kid - well done :)
Richard keil was one fine actor, superb physical specimen to play an iconic villian like Jaws and even more superb acting ability!!!! One of my favorite actors!!!

There was only one John Barry.
I met Roger Moore. That was magic and very funny! Something I will never forget!
Honestly Moonraker is Barry's best work on Bond. I get goosebumps very time I listen
It sure is! My favorite part is the trumpet solo at 3:19.
Totally agree... same happens to me no matter how many times I hear it... a masterpiece
I completely agree....I watch this movie repeatedly, just for the soundtrack!
Obscure Media Together with the soundtrack of „The black hole“.
My favorite part is from 1:45 to 2:14. In the film, Bond says something like "This operation is like Noah's Ark" and you begin to realize that Drax is about to kill all the people on earth... goosebumps

JB is a legend, and so are Roger Moore and John Barry. RIP
2:13 has such a sense of eurgancy, and impending unstoppable doom
You Only live twice.
John Barry is so amazing!
I do miss him
and this was about a year before the shuttle flew...they did a good job making it look real.
The score is probably the best thing about the movie. My favorite part is the reveal of the space station.
I love moonraker, its scope, atmosphere and mystery never let me down, as a child watching it for the first time my mother said I never blinked or moved for the entire film! Its pure magic. If I'm ever in a dull situation I just relive this wonderful scene in my mind and ,m away again!!! X
Fantastic music. Big shout to Dr Goodhead hehe
R.I.P. Roger Moore
My Favourite bit is when Jaws speaks so unexpected. and oddly romantic when he does.
As an impatient 14 yo space fan ( in 1979 awaiting the STS program to get underway), I remember going to see this with my friends & being AWESTRUCK watching these later scenes in the movie. Definitely wouldn't have been the same without Barry's AWESOME score!!
This is an epic song to listen to while observing Jupiter..
Cygnus Array 12 or Uranus.
Absolute genius!! Listening to this makes me realize just how simple, loud and souless many soundtracks are today.
- and how few even attempt a theme... just amazes me.

Quite possibly the most epic musical portrayal of the final frontier ever!
Chopsocky Chowdown Yes, quite possibly. I cannot praise this score highly enough. There is a real depth to this music.

+Josh Baker (JoJoeFilms) It is huge! Even used in a documentary about NASA. OMG I love the movie and the music!
John Barry was a great composer!
"Well, here's to us." Jawz 1979
If I could pick any musician to make a musical score for my life, it'd be John Barry.
Between this and Spy Who Loved Me Bond movies hit the absolute top. The others have been good to great but never as magical. At this point they had perfect lead in Roger, amazing leading ladies, music was phenomenal and stunts that today would be breaking the law
His music comes from a different planet
Would give this video 50 likes if I could. John Barry forever.
Another great british actor sadly lost RIP sir Roger you are the best.
Dispite Moonraker being a rediculous film in my eye, this piece is always my light at the end of the tunnel. Ennio Morricconne, John Williams and John Barry. Masters of their trade.
RIP John Barry. Absolute legend, immortalised through his beautiful music.
R.i.p. Sir Roger Moore - 007. may your soul fly to the space.
I was sad when it ended. Pure genius.
RIP Sir Roger Moore. You were the best Bond.

4:25 this part and forward, gives me absolute chills. It's almost too good.. Damn.
1:44 nice to see where the score for The Beach got its inspiration. Both beautiful pieces, both completely different vibes
Yes agreed!
Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, Tomorrow Never Dies-the James Bond epics
One of my favourite childhood james bond movies, made even better with this amazing soundtrack , thankyou john Barry , Roger Moore, Richard kiel and Michael Lonsdale RIP
2.14....goosebumps. Just don't get that nowadays even from Zimmer.
@@jmack8767 The problem with Zimmer is that the music he and his trainees produce is very frequently synthesized with prerecorded orchestral sounds. Steady..........
The music as Bond follows the girl to the Aztec(?) temple hideout is pretty amazing too...
Pure genius.
I wish 1:43 to 2:13 was on a constant loop
John Barry really outdid himself with the score for Moonraker. Personally I think it's one of the absolute best Bond movie scores.
Say what you will about the movie itself, but the music retains its power.
My fav bond movie, say what you will
Hypnotic masterpiece. This part is my favorite,I think of this everytime I watch The Incredibles.
never gets old
Yes, this is just timeless :-)
Thank you so much John Barry.
John Barry elevates my soul. A MUSICAL GENIOUS!
The magnificence! I am swept away... This is top drawer John Barry folks!

John Barry's Moonraker music was/is great and PERFECT for this movie.
Awe inspiring, Stunning, HUGE sounding score capturing that expansive essence of space.....From 4:24 especially.....Beautiful....
from 4.25 when the trumpets start a complete changed of tune, love it.
The trombones, and cornets as well. Fabulous
Best part indeed
A review/reassessment of Moonraker reminded me of how amazing this soundtrack is. Some of Barry's best work on the franchise for certain.
I was listening to this song this morning on my ipod while having two fillings at the dentist. It makes the experience MUCH nicer :)
Music to get your teeth into 😂
To say nothing of JAWS 😂
Love this film! Early example of the shuttle program too. So different from the book, but a great change of pace. RIP Sir Roger Moore
stunning music....unsurpassed.
John Barry was and still the best we will miss the Master R.I.P
Love this. My favorite Bond film, and first seen in theater. I was dazzled by the space stuff, and all the beautiful women.
John Barry was one of the great monumental film composers along with Bernard Hermann. Their scores sent chills up your spine and were thrilling and inspiring.
I came to this video just to say this is one of the most wonderful and astonishing songs I've ever heard.
John Barry: GENIUS. Thank you.

Well, here’s to us! 🥂
I think he's attempting re-entry, sir!
Best line from any Bond
Simply fantastic
Yes. Among older bonds, this one is my favourite.
My all time favorite track from the James Bond-movies!

1:35, that counter melody in the cellos and horns is just exquisite! =D
@1:44 frigging amazing!!
The only James Bond flick set outter space. That's why Moonraker my all time JB film
Roger Moore is among the stars forever now
thankyou john barry for your great bond music
Amazing piece of music, one of the best in the entire James Bond series. The movie itself if also amazing and would defend it against its critics.
Emotionally powerful.
Peronally i think Moonraker was the most daring bond movie, making major space sceene in those time was not an easy job but i love it.
Sometimes I watch nasa tv on the web while I play this, and the ISS ppl look very cool with this soundtrack :-)
der Beste James Bond Film aller zeiten ich habe nur den auf DVD mir Gekauft
RIP John Barry and Roger Moore. You were both exquisite gentlemen and tops in your respective professions.
I wonder when movies and music of this kind will come back ?
wonderful score
Best Bond movie ever.
Simply incredible.
Wonderful, unfogettable piece of music-John Barry was the greatest composer ever!
RIP Roger Moore a True English Gent
My favorite Bond, a big reason being the fantastic score.
