Final Phlash I totally agree with you about this. I was 13 years old when this came out. Sean Connery best Bond but the composer was AT his height when he did this. I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of years before he died. For the record Midnight Cowboy is His Best Score.
Without question one of John's many masterpieces!!! Just recently learned that the full score of this spellbinding and blockbuster work of art is available and i can't wait to order it!!! So many selections from the original edition were missing. ASTONISHLY even the James bond theme was missing, unbelievable! Complete edition of Moonraker, here i come!!!
John Barry was an absolute genius and an true musical hero of mine! I've never been able to substrate it, but I was told that some of Moonraker's music was left over or rewritten for Disney's 'The Black Hole'. One way or another, there are definite similarities, if you listen closely. Wonderful music whatever the truth.
John Barry fantastic iconic composer for the great bond films Moonraker 1979 awesome movie with the great Richard Kiel as villain jaws the best villain
"First there was the dream, now there is reality. Here in the untainted cradle of the heavens will be created a new super race, a race of perfect physical specimens. You have been selected as its progenitors. Like gods, your offspring will return to Earth and shape it in their image. You have all served in public capacties in my terrestrial empire. Your seed, like yourselves, will pay deference to the ultimate dynasty which I alone have created. From their first day on Earth they will be able to look up and know that there is law and order in the heavens." -Hugo Drax
Hauntingly transcendental. John Barry operated on a different plane. His music moves me like no other, and why this man wasn't knighted is a mystery. He was a genius pure and simple. 0:471:414:17
oh, no. He''s indubitably great, but Laurie Johnson (born in Hampstead) is up there with him. They've even both scored soundtracks for "Moonraker" movies (Johnson did "The Moonraker" in 1958, Barry did "Moonraker" in 1979). Johnson's wasn't a Bond theme, but you can't have everything.
What's missing from contemporary film composers is THEMES! Composers back then (Barry, Mancini, Jarre, Williams e.a.) were masters in writing haunting themes - some of witch bacoming the musical "signature" of the movie, its sound "trademark". There's no such thing in Desplat, for instance...
If today’s superhero movies had scores like this, they would be better movies than just ok. Thats what they are. Good, not great. Not memorable. But I’m anyone who seen this 007 film at the theater remembers exactly what scene this was.
Just stunning isn't it, friends. I think his finest Bond score. I love the main theme, which I came to through Dave Arnold actually. But what about Bond lured to the Pyramids. Pretty dreadful movie (too all the worst bits for The Spy Who Loved Me, which is, anyhow, a classic), but wonderful, wonderful score.
Here you can listen to the Bond lured to the pyramids tune in superb broadcast sound quality from Vinyl LP played on a Klingon turntable from 1979: ua-cam.com/video/KILaUuh_tw0/v-deo.html

Im trying to find a version where the centrepiece is the beautiful choral climb at 5:19. Its not featured centrally enough, the horns have a very different atmosphere that kinda ruins it for me. I seem to remember a shorter version that was also on the score, but dont know the title. Any ideas? Because from around 5:19, is possibly Barry's deepest ever composition.

RIP Sir Roger Moore. This song is probably my favorite in his era of movies.
Final Phlash I totally agree with you about this. I was 13 years old when this came out. Sean Connery best Bond but the composer was AT his height when he did this. I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of years before he died. For the record Midnight Cowboy is His Best Score.

Bravo 40th year tribute to Roger Moore's finest performance as Mr. James bond.
John Barry and Ennio Morricone I think are the best composers of all time. I really wish they're complete discography would come out sometime.
I agree 100%. My dear mother encouraged me to listen to both as a child.

John's score and title song continued to show his versatility for film music. Best composer ever.
Utterly brilliant. I too think this was his finest Bond score. Nobody does it better. Erm, not even Marvin Hamlish :)
Hamlish lacked enough class that he sued Barry over the 'original' Bond theme
John Barry fantastic iconic composer for the great bond films Moonraker 1979 awesome movie with the great Richard Kiel as villain jaws the best villain

Definitely John Barry.
Dances with Wolves is truly my favorite score of his.
3:15 close your eyes and be transported. Be transported to a time and place humanity has never known.
'I think he's attempting re-entry, sir....'
Hauntingly transcendental. John Barry operated on a different plane. His music moves me like no other, and why this man wasn't knighted is a mystery. He was a genius pure and simple. 0:47 1:41 4:17
Moonraker's soundtrack may not be my favorite overall...but this piece in particular is top-notch!
Shades of Vaughan Williams, even...
I love moonraker, but it is still very out there
Fantastic
2:10-2:40 my favorite part of this song
John Barry is the greatest English composer since Elgar.
Wasn't that George Baker in his purple doublet in 1958?
@@jeanlafitte268 oh no no no Jean
Pure, uninhibited class!
1:44 sounds like Twin Peaks theme!?
John Barry will be so good for eternity!
Like Debussy, Jazz, Love ... and good coffee ...

1.04 is epic
Gives me Holly Goodhead.
3:13 - 3:43 also great

When I start playing Kerbal Space Program, this will be the song I play during all the major missions.
Yes, that snippet is also quite something.

Moonraker was a dud IMO but Barry's score is among the best in the series. Gorgeous.

I think his 007 and Counting suits space more.

Lockdown virus music
sounds like to could belong in Star Wars
Nah, it doesn't have the John Williams vibe.
+Judd Kramer Sounds more like Dances With Wolves in Space.
Imagine this as the theme to the Falcon's arrival at Cloud City. It really fits like a glove
Are you out of your fucking mind. Wouldent fit in star wars anywhere. I do believe the first 20 seconds or so was used in a show on the bbc called the sky at night as there intro so
Nah it'd fit the arrival at Cloud City like a charm. Try playing it during that scene
