Ok for all the chemical engineers that have shown up to tell me how evil I am for using that weed killer. I'm going to say it one more time. I found the container empty and all cleaned out. I just liked how big it was with a securing lid. Thanks for watching!
It is the same in N.Y. In my case I run it through a filtration system, blend it 50/50 with No. 2 fuel oil and use it to heat the shop in the winter with an approved waste oil furnace.
My dad used to service car washes, he gave me a 30 gal. container that takes a while to fill up. I'd even recommend buying one just to save on trips to the store.
Thing is I made this mistake a few times… a lot of people do… they keep their waste oil in the drain pans, they throw out the containers that they came in or still have new oil in some… (mainly a beginner mistake I did this YEARS ago when I first started working on my truck (first 2 oil changes I did on it when purchased it)… another thing… I made this mistake once… drain other fluids in a drain pan with different fluids in it. I had a drain pan, with engine oil and ATF4 in it! Glad I was able to dispose of it. Parts store had a giant drain pan that people can go to and empty into it. A lot basically just about all parts stores require the oil being in the containers they came in. Always keep them. I do now… I purchased a giant container I have 2 might possibly by one more soon. It holds oil. When full I load it on my flatbed to take em to get emptied
Ryan, I have a question/issue for you: The local auto store has a sign that states "We do not currently accept used oil" They have had this sign for several years, even though they still sell oil. Suggestions for alternatives?
Sounds like a shady store. I'm sure you could report them to the EPA or local authorities if you really wanted to. But you can Google "waste oil drop off near me" in the mean time. Thanks for watching!
AutoZone and O’Reilly’s do not take the containers that you transported them in. So what am I supposed to do with the empty plastic containers if they still have small amounts of oil in it? Is it recyclable or is it trash
Interesting. Everytime I have been to any AutoZone or O'Reilly's they just take the container if I don't need it back and I'm on my way. Just clean it best you can and trash it. Thanks for watching!
This has always been my hangup. I'm sometimes willing to go to an oil change place because I've never found out what to do with the oily rags/paper towels I use to wipe the oil catcher.
1. You take them to the oil facility with the oil. There is always a place to put them there. 2. It is just a large container I found that can hold a decent amount of fluid. 3. Thank you for watching!
For real. Glyphosate in round up is so toxic. It's water soluble so it's highly dangerous. Pretty much in every drop of water on earth today thanks to ppl hating dandelions 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Oh man those are the olden days. My grandfather told me about doing this back in the day. Now that will get you fined or worse. Thank you for watching!
We kept it in a 55 gallon drum and used is a bar and chain oil, or anything that needed a little lube from an old school oil can that didn’t necessarily need anything special. We also used to wrap 2x4’s in baler twine and soak it in that oil then hang them above the drum to “drip dry” (took a long time) but then we would have nice slow burning home made torches. To the fella who commented that we don’t care about the land, you must not know any farmers. Now I’m not advocating for everyone disposing of oil just anywhere; we’ve learned a thing or two since those days, but where do you all think that oil came from in the first place? Hint: it doesn’t grow on trees
I have two 55 gallon drums full of used oil from back in 2003😐, in order for me to dispose of it I need to put all back in 5 quart containers or pay a company to pump it😩
Once again for the 11th or 12th time. I did not buy the container. I found it cleaned and emptied. And if you are worried about cancers than definitely wear gloves. Thanks for watching!

I actually am a chemical engineer
@@9mmshort254 😆
To be fair, that's not what you say in the video. "I got this at Home Depot. I used all the weed herbicide here and it's empty!"
There's also nothing especially evil about Round-up... unless you're a conspiratard. I'm not a chemical engineer, but I am a molecular biologist. ;)
@@kublaiwon8040 he said he cleaned it out before saying it’s empty

Hey that's pretty neat! I'm un sure if we can do that here but, we really don't need it. It only gets to 40F at the coldest.

Or the bottle the new oil came in just a thought.
Michael M unless you buy oil in bulk where you don’t use all the oil
Exactly

thanks for the video brotha! much love
Awesome thanks!
I use a 5 gallon plastic gas container. That way you can do a couple of oil changes before you make that trip to the auto parts store.
Didn't think about the bottle to keep it in. Thansk for the help.
Do they charge you to take the oil? Also do they let you keep the bottle?
Nope. It is free and yes I kept the bottle. Thanks for watching!

So I assume that they take the oil at no charge since you didn't say if there was a fee or not.
Yes it should be free. I don't think they can legally charge actually. Some locations might make you write down how much you are dumping off.
What if you spilled oil and you used kitty litter, newspaper or any absorbent pads?
I would contact an EPA center and ask what is the best way to go about doing that if you have a large amount. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! It's basic knowledge but I didn't know this until I started checking my oil just recently.
Everyplace I have been going is refusing to take it (auto parts stores/quick lubes), legally required or not.
In California it is. Thanks for watching!
This video was extremely helpful! 👍🏻👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!

Two thing I wonder: why does nobody ever show what to do with the old oil filters and why do people still use Roundup?
1. You take them to the oil facility with the oil. There is always a place to put them there.
2. It is just a large container I found that can hold a decent amount of fluid.
3. Thank you for watching!
Do autoparts store charge for taking used motor oil? Thanks
No they don't. Thanks for watching!
can we mix engine oil and transmission oil ?
Yep. Thanks for watching!
Wouldn’t it have been more efficient to place the bottles inside the trash bag?🤷🏾♂️
Why not both? :D Thanks for watching!
Poured poison from a lab all over the grass. But God forbid motor oil which came from the ground. Funny world.

How do you get rid of the oil filter
Any place that takes used oil also takes filter. Thanks for watching!
Throw it in the garbage
How much $$$ did you have to pay them to take the oil?
Nothing, it is free. Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much
No worries!
just use your empty oil canister
Good tip! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the awesome videos.

An empty windshield wash solvent container is what I use for waste oil,
IN the old days we would dig a hole at least 400 feet from the well and pour it in

Post it on marketplace. You'll likely find someone with an oil furnace that will come out and pump it for free.
