  • A method of cleaning and odor-removing distilled WMO-based fuel.
    This method uses some easy-to-get reagents, ethyl alcohol (sold as methylated spirit), sodium hydroxide (caustic soda, drain cleaner), silica gel (cat toilet crystals), plus water. No need for sulfuric acid or poisonous methanol.

    very good recipe to make biodiesel. I'll dare suggest you can add to process - using quicklime instead silica gel to dehydrate final stage.
    In Brazil - before our national alcohol project (for fuel) when high technology were developed, the production of dehydrate Ethylic alcohol was done by quicklime. I believe 100 or 150 g of lime might be enough - try it.
    Congrats to you

    This is great, just discovered your channel. I run only diesel vehicles and collect enough waste oil to power my vehicles even with an 80% recovery rate through distillation. I've been wanting to have a go at cracking it for the longest time.
    It seems like the addition of a centrifuge could be quite useful at a variety of stages in the cracking and refining processes?

    Sodium ethoxide can be prepared in two ways. By reaction of sodium metal in ethanol, or by electrolysis of an anhydrous solution of NaOH in ethanol at high current.

  • @freedom_aint_free
    @freedom_aint_free Рік тому +1

    You probably is getting something other than ethoxide: CH3CH2- as sodium hydroxide in spite of being a strong base is not strong enough to generate ethoxide the reason being that the ethanol is a extremely weak acid, and in order for it to react like one you need brutal bases: metallic sodium (particularly in aprotic solvents like THF) is a good one, I guess you could use Lithium from batteries too.
    diluted acidic potassium permanganate (say in diluted sulfuric acid) can be also used to oxidize some impurities and you can clarify the colloidal suspension of MnO2 with sodium sulfite afterwards..

    Hi there :)
    1. I hope the tank and pipes you are using are not made of aluminum but stainless steel, because aluminum and its alloys will corrode in contact with NaOH.
    2) NaOH is a strong base, "rinse" the oil with one liter of water will not remove it, it should be neutralized with some acid imho.
    3) I think silica gel absorb water, but with NaOH, so it should not be dried and reused.
    4) Dissolving NaOH releases a lot of heat, which may cause the solution to boil and splashing it around.
    In general that is interesting video. 👍🏻

    • @santeryi9
      @santeryi9  25 днів тому

      The tank is stainless steel, the NaOH is in miniscular amount reacted with alcohol releasing the heat, so added to the fuel cold with no exothermic reaction, then it reacts with tar, settles and drained, washed and drained again, copper stripe test or water extract test is done upon the use, the used silica is mixed with NaOH again and boiled with a bit of water that turns it to sodium silicate, then dirt collected from the top of solution, later sodium silicate is converted to silica gel again. Also note that if any NaOH would be in the treated fuel, then silica gel will react with it and become neutral sodium silicate, so there is no alkali in the fuel.

      Expensive, 4-5 days, need a container big enough & stirring device. The outlay for those is high enough but in Europe those chemicals have to be bought in large enough quantities to make it cheap (1Kg NaOH == £4, Alcohol 1L £5). My time alone would make it cheaper to fill up at a gas station. And you still have to dispose of the waste materials which you need to drive to the disposal site in a vehicle. So if you do happen to have the gear lying around and you don't have anything better to do with your time then you get what? 3-4 gallons from 5 gallons of oil. That would take me a few years to get from oil changes anyway.

      In my case I use it as fuel, so no real need to make it bright yellow, bur I would recomment to store it with silica for longer period of time and it will become bright yellow in week time, so some absorbent will do the trick.

      Hi, I am making my alcohol. Otherwise, you can use blue methylated spirits. It is ethyl alcohol (ethanol) with some die. It is usually 5 dollars per liter in any supermarket. It will be enough to treat up to 80L of fuel sodium hydroxide sold in bunnings, currently trying to complete a construction manual about a reliable system.

      Hi, yes you can reuse silica after reactivation, you will need to bake it in furnace, make it red hot, then cool down, may reuse for a couple of times, then you can turn it to sodium silicate, remove all the impurities and turn it back to clean silica gel.
      Ther oil at the beginning is cold, otherwise you may risk to turn it to thick soapy substance.

      Если не очистить как следует и поторопиться то полимеры и смолы осядут в топливной системе, залепят клапана, форсунки, заблокируют насос, и тд. Я об этом говорю в своих видео, во первых после отгона надо отстоять, несмотря на прозрачность, сформируется много осадка, затем химическая очистка или отстой на сисликагеле, после хим очистки опять отстой на абсорбенте. если ест; сомнения то перед употреблением наливаем в чистую стеклянную посуду, даём постоять несколько часов и если на стенках посуды образуется налёт в виде тёмных точек - значит топливо неготово и в нём продолжаются процессы икисления и образования полимеров, они то и блокируют топливную систему. Все эти предосторожноти желательно делать до тех пор пока вы не найдете приемлемый для вас способ очистки топлива, в котором вы будете уверены.
      У меня одна машина бообще не видела соляры с заправки около 8ми лет, на самодельной наездил около двухсот тысяч километров, сейчас сын подрос, отдал ему он на ней ездит, намотала машина около 430000км, заводится и не дымит. В соляру как самодельную так и с заправки добавляю еще присадку для топлива моррейс, таким образом решаю возможные недостатки топлива. Всегда обслуживаю машину, меняю фильтры и тд. Но с дуру что попало заливатьне стоит.
