    I grew up in the woods, and we had the elusive lynx around us my whole upbringing. No-one ever saw it, we'd sometimes see tracks in the snow when out walking deep in the woods, but that's it.
    Then in my 20s I got two kittens. And lynx tracks in the snow started to appear around my house on a daily basis. I usually had a window open for my kittens to get in and out, so I was kinda worried. One day I got home, the two kittens had brought a big bird inside and feathers were littered all across the room. I assumed they found a dead bird, it was too big for them to catch, probably a juvenile blackbird(not yet fully black). Then, I noticed the kittens, who were about 6-7 months old, started leaving mice outside. And every morning the mice would be gone, and new lynx tracks would be seen around the place they would leave the mice. In the end I saw the lynx crossing the fields, and I took my cats and lifted them up so they'd get a look. It's hard to know what a cat is thinking, but they looked very comfortable and familiar with the lynx. It's the first time I ever saw a real lynx, and it didn't look too bothered about me being there at all.
    Maybe the lynx had lost her own kittens and was thus attracted to my kittens? They started mutually feeding each other? It's one of the most precious and weirdest experiences of my life, lynx has been one of my favourite animals since I was a kid.

But seeing the wild live outside my window or when I went for a walk was the most amazing thing in my 38 years except being a paramedic firefighter trying to help someone and succeed and changing there worst day of their life possibly to be there best! Being with family is the best, saving a life is the 2nd best and seeing native wild life untouched by man in there home is the 3rd! :-) Dressing up and being out there for hours in the bitter cold and heat that can cook an egg is a awesomeness of a human being that is a great thing for humanity!

    That lynx is smart! He literally used the camera man to his advantage to catch the rabbit. He moved around the rabbit until the rabbit was directly between him and the camera man, and then chased the rabbit directly at the camera man. You can see at one point just as the rabbit is running past the tree, it sees the camera man and appears to be caught of guard (5:24) which makes him veer left but he loses some balance and the lynx catches up to the rabbit in no time! What a brilliant strategy!

      I find it amazing actually, and it kinda proves a theory I have that canines weren't the only creatures ancient man bonded with through hunting. And this at least shows that wild felines are willing and able to hunt with humans.
      To me, what happens feels more like the feline had been eating for days and days, catching rabbits, and realized his hunting companion had never ate one time. and as such, chased a meal directly to him. I feel like the cat was trying to give the cameraman a meal, much in the same way normal house cats will bring their owners kills for a meal.
      my reasoning for this is the cat directly moved into the rabbits line of sight. these animals dont have binocular vision like we do, rabbits have vision like deer and elk n stuff, they have an extremely wide field of view, and the cat knows this. That cat could have easily came from the rear and made that kill way easier for itself, instead, it deliberately ran it towards the cameraman. I think the cat expect the camera man to catch and kill that rabbit.

      sorry to say but i bet she would’ve returned to you. something may have happened and she couldn’t return. but let’s just hope she wanted to move and start her own family. maybe one day she’ll show up with a litter of kittens, you’ll keep one and start all over again.

      Beautiful story with a sad ending for you. But she heard the call of the wild and did was natural to her, you can be proud you saved the life of a beautiful animal and provided her with a foster family for a while.
      Our domestic cats have had millenia to get used to humans, can't expect the same behaviors from wild animals.

    • @rachelciel3330

      Don't worry. If she goes out and never return, she knew that she's ready for the wild life. Animals knew by instinct what they could take. Especially cats. She'll surely return to you at an unexpected time, at that time, you have to be ready to let her go again because she's probably only come to check on you. And she's a lynx. the Wild is strong in her. The nature called for her and she answered it. As people said, fledglings will surely fly away from the nest. I'm sure she loves you but her nature calling is strong.
      I'm sure she's fine out there.

I'm sure he prefers it to sitting behind a desk all day, working on an assembly line or helping rude customers in some service job, nevermind having to take crap from a grumpy boss and then driving back and forth through traffic each day. Myself, I can't take that much cold but Sam's young, healthy and used to it. He probably considers frozen snot not much more than an inconvenience.

    I'd imagine the lynx gave him several opportunities to try to sneak up on him if he had any ill will. He also didn't try to sneak up and take any of Max's kills or try to harass him in any way. When he never took any of those opportunities, it must have become apparent that he was just there watching. Perhaps then he decided that the company was nice, and clearly Sam, despite not moving, became a decent hunting partner because he made the rabbit lose it's lead to turn away from Sam in the chase. Very neat to watch the video but I'd love to have been there to see this relationship develop. Beautiful shot in the end.

      Makes sense to me. I've seen domestic cats do similar... when they turn their back on someone but keep an ear locked onto them, for example. It's not a stretch to think that a bigger cat, with just as much need to be smart like that, would to the same.

    • @ApemanMonkey
      @ApemanMonkey 6 років тому +41

      "even to the point where he was not charging it from the back but from the side - which wouldn't make sense": could also have been to stay down wind, so the rabbit wouldn't smell him. I do agree he was probably using the position of the cameraman in his favor.

    • @seredahawke3207
      @seredahawke3207 6 років тому +52

      What was happening was that Sam was a distraction. Normally rabbits(and similar small prey creatures) have very different reactions to humans compared to their natural predators. They'll keep an eye on you but they don't immediately bolt like they would with what they know is going to try to kill them. So, while the rabbits were focused on the loud and clumsy(relatively speaking) human, Max could stalk them more easily.

Or sometimes she hid somewhere and attack her toy. I think it's their way of hunting. They simply know how to play the game. They are a very smart pradator.
