Listen to the album track by track , it's a journey you won't regret . Some brilliant songs waiting for you , don't over analyse them , just let them sweep over you ! ❤
I saw them 2x in gigs (Glasgow Apollo) but also at the Bear Park (where I worked). I met them back stage in the hospitality tent and they were really nice bunch of guys. So was Ian Gillan.
@@alan-reacts65 Here is the funny story. I worked with the bears (I come from Balloch) and the gig was in the 3rd reserve (near the castle, now Cameron House Hotel). In the hospitality the beer was crap (important bit) but the food was good. Loads of people were trying to sneak in and first they chucked their beer over the fence before realising that they were at the wrong compound which was full of bears. 🙂 A couple of people even jumped the fence. The best laxative known to man. We allowed them on the back of the Bedford van to get back over the fence and chucked their carry out back over. Others that just chucked beer pleaded for us to chuck the beer back and everyone said...... Hey boys (we were teenagers) take a couple of cans. By about noon we had loads of tennents lager and Tartan Special so we were very popular in the hospitality tent.
Some points, Alan. Glad you liked it. For me it's better than Freebird. I don't analyze the song too much, lyrically. I just love it for being a great, great rock track. Guitars, bass, drums all amazing ! You highlighted the drumming which drives the song along. Of course, Martin Turner's astonishing bass is actually playing lead, so there IS ONLY Steve Upton on drums in the rhythm section at that point. Yes, do the whole album in track order, cos for me the payoff is the brilliant 'Throw Down The Sword', a fantastic finale to a fantastic album.
IT's good that your musical journey found them so early. Time has sidelined them a little, but in their pomp they were a massive band and at a time when records shifted in their gazillions. Deservedly so. Masters of their craft in writing, playing and performing. These songs and their legacy stands up well even today as many YT reactions are proving. It is a joy to me to see them getting recognition on YT reaction channels. You must give the album 'There's The Rub' a listen. Also, given that you like analysing material as you experience it I would urge you to give British prog-metallers Threshold a listen. Theirs is a rabbit-hole you will enjoy disappearing down I think.
Another super reaction Alan to a great song from a masterpiece of an album . Very happy to hear you mention the drumming of Steve Upton who i agree is absolutely fantastic . He & Martin Turner on bass are just so tight & the driving force behind the band . If you ever get the chance Alan do try & listen to The Pilgrim from their second album Pilgrimage .You wont be disappointed . Steves drumming & the various subtle changes in tempo are outstanding .As well as some fantastic guitar work as usual !! . Enjoy .
Alan, I have a couple of recommendations for your Wishbone Ash journey of discovery ... 1) Instrumentals When they put their minds to it, in the 1970s they included some very cool little instrumentals in their discography. Beautiful guitar work on tracks like 'Alone' and 'Lullaby' from the Pilgrimage album and 'Prelude' and the gorgeous 'Candlelight' from the New England album. The Shadows influence (Shadows Greatest Hits album cover features on the inside cover of Wishbone Four), is clearly evident here. 2) Something non-typical and laid back Wishbone Ash fans might not regard this track as quinessential Wishbone Ash, and I would concur, but still I love it. The track is 'Lonely Island', also from the New England album. Beautiful laid back ballad. When I listen to it, it transports me to a sunset on a desert isle.
Now that you have listened to the best track on side one, flip it over to side two and listen to the four tracks in order at one time. Although not intended as a concept album it does tell a story very relevant in todays world.
7:54 No it's NOT particularly HOPE, but the ENOUGH POWER TO TRY TO TRY IN THIS SHITTY WORLD nevertheless, and realize that almost nothing is guaranteed, but the journey that matters mostly, and to try often to live the moment, and to try often not to give a big fuck about the outcomes, I LIKE THAT! The song is masterpiece, especially this part, it's dynamic
This is one of those Deep Cuts bands that I used to listen to and forgot about over time. The change in time signature is like King Crimson and I think Wishbone Ash is one of the progenitors of what is currently known as math rock. BTW, just looking at their website, they are touring all over the UK through October. Maybe worth a live listen?
Morning Julie , I’ve managed to get 1 King Crimson on the channel , but they strike or block everything. Also think TOOL ! I’m looking at seeing what I can get to , because I’ve already got Samantha Fish and Alice Cooper in October 😊

Thank you for sharing , it’s good to hear anecdotes that are positive and remind me that great bands do have good people in them 😊☺️😎

I’m going to enjoy it for what it was then 😊👍😎
That bass riff to me is simply saying... F it, nothing's gonna bring me down!
Works for me 😎👍
