I'm not surprised you put out this extra video. I would be stuck even with a top twenty - how tough would that be! Besides this top twenty would be changing all the time, with the stuff I have on my IPOD...
WAAAAAAAAAAAAY back in (around) 1975 I was a freshman in college and we "scored" tix to see ELO and Wishbone Ash at the old Spectrum in Philadelphia. It was one of my favorite concerts! BTW the 3rd band (warmup) that started us off was only doing their 2nd gig ever! It was called...Journey!
Great video listening to you tying yourself in knots whether they should or shouldn’t be in your top 10. Reality is these are really good bands and that’s good enough for me. Looked like you had a good weekend as well. All the best. Dave✅✅
@@JimNewstead I’ve done a couple but often feel under qualified to talk with sufficient authority on a whole subject as I started the channel to get back in touch with music I kinda left in the 80s as I got married- so still very much learning again. I was impressed with your authority on your bands though. Cheers Dave✅✅
I’m going to make some “introductions to” videos, and the Ozrics is one I defo need to do. Start with their first two albums, and if you enjoy, go from there. They are called Pungent Effulgent and Erpland.
I started with Erpland on Jim's advice (thanks Jim!) and loved it! In fact, I'm overdue checking out another of their albums. Adding Pungent Effulgent to my list right now. Thanks again, Jim.
Hey Jim! This is why i don't do lists or rankings, especially for YES. Been following them for well over 50 years and i still don't have a favorite album or song. They change every day!! Thanks for the vid Jim! Are these picks set in stone? Lol!!!!!👍😎
I don't want you to like DT better than Haken, but as I said before ... you should take a listen to the early stuff ... Images&Words, Awake and A Change of Season. Von Hertzen Brothers is a great nr 11 😄🤘 Yeah, Wishbone Ash ... another all time favourite ... I was so happy to see them live in 1980 , awesome melodies and double lead guitar, so many great albums. Opeth - too bad, that only 10 bands fit into a Top 10 🤣 Rush - I'm sure they will be Top 10, when you've reached the mid 80s 🤘 Riverside would be one of my nr 12s 🤣 and my favourite album is 2n Life Syndrome ... I would replace AC/DC immediately since they somehow died for me with the death of Bon Scott ... Back in Black was ok, but thereafter ... no thank you 😆
Having only recently seen your wonderful reaction to Caravan’s The Land of Grey and Pink, wondered where you rate them overall. And the brilliant bass player and joint lead singer Richard Sinclair went on to play with Hatfield and the North, and then Camel. Any thoughts on them? And unrelated, XTC? A song band but a brilliant song band. From Swindon.
Aha! Cool. Yeah its tough doing lists for an art form that involves so many greats. Tis a shame the Garage is more a club layout than one with seating or id def go....tickets are good price for Von Hertzen Bros. Oh well when Iron maiden are next in town Jim😊... So pleased so many bands we love are also our no11s...including Rush and Radiohead. I think many people are sleeping on A Moon Shaped Pool....to me its their crowning achievement. So beautiful. Yeah Riverside along with Marillion, Dark Throne, Churches, Gentle Giant, Tribulation, Cirith Ungol and some others are some i forgot that can get close... I make that about 30 odd bands....🥴👀🤔
Wishbone Ash in my No. 1, they had two albums before they reached their peak of Argus, after Argus the consistancy of their songs dropped somewhat they still dveloped the odd classic song here and there but overall they never matched the standard of Argus.
Hi Jim, I know that album by Wishbone ash. Good music but not in my top 11. The Orb on 12 😅 I answered your request for my top ten list. I had the same problems with all those great bands that didn’t make it. Here my number 11 list. Dream theater Depeche mode Devin Townsend project Jetro tull King Crimson Camel Grobschnitt Transatlantic Porcupine tree Talk Talk The Gathering Marillion
Was gonna say last time there are so many bands with one off supurb all time albums but wont get near fave bands top end...(For me United States of America self titled and Love Forever Changes are great examples)
Over 30 years listening to Dream Theater.....Haken has taken my favorite spot over them. But, with the return of Mike Portnoy, they may reclaim that spot! We'll see.....
Ooooh, just in time getting Marillion in there, I was getting all ready to unsubscribe in a huff there for a second (well not really, but it's fun to pretend I could be that sort of knob innit...!)
11 = 12. Perfect way to start any music ranking list!!
I nearly did a baker’s dozen….

AND MARILLION 😍😍 AMAZING!
I agree with Marillion, don't like everything they're doing. But a lot of it is amazing. Have you heard FEAR yet?

Almost…. But not quite!
Once he gets a bit farther into their catalog(ue), they may crack the 10.
If I were to do a list, I would have The Beatles and Bee Gees alongside Tool and Nine Inch Nails. 😂
