2020 Mercedes GLS 450 If you look carefully at min 4:44 you will see in the settings it says “ ESP OFFROAD+”. ESP stands for electronics stability program. It’s job is to simply reduce loss of traction or skidding or slipping. By having individual braking each wheel at nearly the speed of light to help save lives. It relies on wheel speed sensors your rate sensor control unit and hydraulic brake unit. It’s secret is that it’s continuously on to monitor but when you put it on “off-road+” it responses sharply to the rough terrain. As you can see with this kind of electronica power in your vehicle, not having the suspensions that allows the wheels to fully articulate to be on the ground don’t really matter. And in my opinion not having the right off-road tires won’t do much harm. In comfort mode, it’s simply a all wheel drive/four-wheel-drive System that is again useless for Offroad. In this mode “comfort” the ESP is acting as if the car is on a normal road but bad conditions and once wheel slip is detected it stopped all four wheels (supposedly saving lives). But once the driver turned off the ESP, traction control took over braking any wheel with slippage and sending power to the wheel with most resistance. Basically acting like the Toyota Land Cruiser but with the driver having the ability to give input to the gas and brake pedal. Over all An excellent way of showing safety, comfort and off roading combined!

@@Pieces93 Its also way more powerful than the toyota and it costs twice as much if not 3 times as much. Considering that and the fact that its more reliable than prety much every car it compares to, id say its the toyota that makes the rest of them look silly.
@Sarthak Suman I favour the land cruiser because it gets the job done with similar results for a third of the price while also being a lot more reliable car. Its as simple as that. This is like a professional strongman lifting weights and then some random dude with half his weight comes in and gives him a run for his money and then you go on and say the strongman made him look silly because he lifted a tiny bit more. No, its actually the other way around.
@Sarthak Suman The video shows a very specific test that doesnt even resemble reality and the land cruiser gets the job done even at that. What do you want me to say? That the range rover gets slightly better results that 99.99% of the drivers wouldnt even notice? Sure, but if you are going to judge the cars based on that then you are missing the forest for the tree. I prefer to look at the actual context of the test rather than the result itself.
Thanks for your feedback bro! Workflow is more effective if outsource narrator is involved. It allows me to work more on new projects and prepare interesting content for you.
G Wagon is an offroad monster, as expected, very few vehicles come from the factory with 3 diff lockers. Glad you guys tested the previous model, as it has a solid axle in front (new models only have IFS now, more comfortable and sporty on-road, but worse for offroad). No surprise with the RR Vogue, Land Rover has years of experience with the All Terrain system, and although I much prefer to have full control (as in the G Wagon with the lockers), the All Terrain works super well. Very surprised with the GLS, the electronic system performed very well, I would have expected the Land Cruiser to be much better than the GLS, not the case at all. In fact, the Japanese SUVs need to choose a path, either an advanced electronic system (such as the RR and GLS) or more mechanical control such as the G Wagon, it seems they have neither, and lack behind. No comments for the Infinity...
The Toyota systems are favoring reliability over minimizing wheel spin. Considering what land cruisers are deployed for I'd opt for reliability over less wheel spin.
Great video! This is what I want to see, 4wd systems tested when crossed up on a hill. Also thanks for no annoying music and for commenting on what mode they were in. Glad I found this channel! Subscribed!
I was also most surprised by the BMW and its traction control system. I also see that having powerful engines can overcome the braking of the spinning wheel easier, which lessens the need for low range.
why would you want to hold on to a car for decades? i have a friend with an 04 GX470 and its worse than 2004 range rovers in terms of build quality.yes i know that the 03-05 range rovers were shit because of that M62 BMW V8, but at least the interior stands up to the test of time. I was in that 04 GX and the interior trim is falling to pieces, the leather is faded and ripped, the headliner is saggy, plastics cracked, and everything creaks. it still starts up and runs everyday and ill give it credit for that, but honestly an 06 range rover with the AJ133 jag V8 is the better option
I agree with you. the only car i think i can go for after the Land Cruiser would be the G Wagon cause i believe these are the two SUVs that can guarantee a full off-road success in any environment you in...

Only one thing for sure after 25 years or more, that Land cruiser will be still be on road. My land cruiser is 98' and it drives like the first day I bought it.
Crawl Control did a very good job. but the drive should know how to activate it. In this time the RR doesn't required any specific activities from driver to show the same result.

The G Wagon destroyed all of them !
G. Wagon didn't impress me.. let's see in mud and deep water test.. who gonna win.
Agree. He tends to be biased to Mercedes product. While it's clearly can be seen how easy the LC did the job and the GLS clearly struggle, his bias towards Mercedes still made GLS won over LC. What a crap review.
@@jokosantoso8946 m
That mercedes G wagon was everything i swear I'm gonna keep dreaming of this car 🚗
Me too 😪🥺🥺🥺
G is actually a full on offroader with capability meant to compete with the likes of the Jeep Wrangler and Defender. The rest of these are crossovers between comfort and offroading.
@@vanderz1012 atleast acknowledge the Range Rover in that statement.
@@giftkhwabi9807 Range Rover is capable but it is not a dedicated offroader. It is not nearly as tough or ruggard and in most instances would get torn apart trying to go where they go

Land cruiser is best ...Specially 5.7 😎💪
Worst one here because of its reliability
I was not expecting this from the GLS. It made it look like the others struggled, except for the Rangie.

Gotta love the G-Wagons sound note.
The land cruiser and g wagon ftw! I was really disappointed in the performance and wheel travel on the infiniti/Nissan patrol...
I own the same 2020 Range Rover and am glad and impressed to see it perform like this
When you intend to change your car, please give it to me.
Toyota lc 200 series is king of offroad.... In this video also it shows it's ability.... Toyota is the clear winner in this..
Yeah I’m not sure which video you were watching but the Range Rover made the rest of the cars look a bit silly.
The range rover aced this
@@Pieces93 Its also way more powerful than the toyota and it costs twice as much if not 3 times as much.
Toyota land cruiser never disappoints
It did in this video...

The Japanese had 3 lockers on there land cruiser 80s in the early 90s before most other 4x4s what you talking about 😂😂
The Toyota systems are favoring reliability over minimizing wheel spin.
I’m glad that you liked the video. Any specific cars you would like to see in upcoming video?
@@SUVBattle how about Suzuki Jimney or some pickup trucks? Thanks for responding!
That infinity is literally scary, a car of this luxury shouldn’t give that feeling of insecurity, it’s just scary...

Great video, again. I would love to see a Land Rover Discovery in the battles. It’s been great for me!
I would still take that Lexus because i know it will do these for decades when others will be scraped.
LandCruiser you mean? technically the same thing anyway
It would be scrapped if you can't afford to repair it...
Other's won't be scraped if you maintain it.
why would you want to hold on to a car for decades? i have a friend with an 04 GX470 and its worse than 2004 range rovers in terms of build quality.yes i know that the 03-05 range rovers were shit because of that M62 BMW V8, but at least the interior stands up to the test of time.
The gls 500 was a shock lx 570 will always be scraped
The Lexus tho so good
Range Rover with tiny rubber ruled it, mind-blowing

Amazing from the GLS, on road tyres no less! It's wheel travel was pretty crappy, quite scary to see such an expensive vehicle hanging high in the air, but damn it handled the obstacle beautifully.
