QUESTIONS COMMENT THREAD: What questions do you have? Reply to this comment so I can see it better! This video was out early for patrons for those interested in watching videos early next time - otherwise, sorry that the music has to be lower for this video but since the instrumental track is distorted I didn't want to hurt your ears
Not necessarily a question but I think an explanation! Regarding 'it seems like Velvette lost the argument' not everyone notices but the music is important here, and helps with understanding what's going on! As you mentioned in the beginning, Carmilla has this nice Latin guitar going on, but then when Vel starts singing, it changes to a more pop dubstep thing, however you described it. When we come back to Carmilla's next verse, the guitar comes back, but it's mixed with Vel's pop 👀 then we go back to entirely Vel's pop as she sings her next verse. This told me that Vel has the upper hand. Carmilla tries to regain control but she can't. She went in without thinking and it would hurt her in the end. Then we get to 'this meeting's over!' from Carmilla which is accentuated by the guitar alone, which made me think Carmilla regained control, but we end on a beat from Vel's pop dubstep. Carmilla may have ended the confrontation, but Velvette won it. She basically got the confirmation she wanted and she caused problems with Carmilla, forcing her to admit to Zestial the truth. I feel like Vel's frown comes from not getting a solid answer or just in general not getting the reaction she wanted from all the overlords about both the exorcist and her and the boys' plan*, especially since she goes to have a smile like two seconds later, but yeah maybe she could've had a smile when Carmilla ended the song idk. *recalling this information while watching E8 is gold, iykyk
@@47ratsinahoodiewhich is why I don’t get what Vel’s end goal was. She clearly wants to extract info from Carmilla (whether she managed to or not is up for debate), yet does nothing with it later on. This is kinda the only moment where we see Vel caring for something other than her phone, yet she tried to stir up or start something but didn’t do anything with it or the info she gained. We know she wanted to fight back against the exterminations, but she’s seen caring very little when witnessing Charlie actually fighting back in an all out war. Kind of disappointing.
@@miyamura_kin9349 Vel wanted to rile up the other overlords, and get them to try fighting off the overlords whereas her and the other Vees' plan was just to chill inside in the dark. She never actually wanted to fight; she wanted to try and create a power vacuum should overlords get taken out by exorcists. In the end they only think Alastor was taken out but the Vees still win no longer having a rival ^^
So it was a bit difficult understanding some of your points. For example you criticize some lines and rhyme schemes that may not sound right when spoken, but sound fine depending how it's sang. Is it supposed to work both ways? I understand the syllables matter for a musical song like Charlie's, but "Respectless" being a traditional Pop song, I'm unsure how much it matters. As far as I know "War" and "For" work. "For" may not end in "ar" but they do sound the same.
@@frankkennedy6388 Syllables also matter for a pop song, but it sounds like you're talking about syallbles and pronunciation as the same thing(??) Or did you mean that as two different sentences. The syllable count is how many "beats" each word has (to explain it in a way that's not as complicated). But the rhyming is about the pronunciation of a word. So the syllable count is say in the example I used "Of War" (2). Because that's 2 beats. If I said "Of War" and "I'm Sure", that's both two beats. But if I said "Of War" and "Now I'm Sure", that's three beats. So they would still rhyme, but it's the beats that are off. Rhyming and syllable count are two separate issues. In regards to the rhymes though, certain accents can make certain words sound the same. Words that are spelt differently can still rhyme depending on how they are spoken, whereas other words that are spelt the same, like "done" and "gone" don't rhyme because of how we say "go" and "do". I hope that makes sense!
I think one particularly cool part to me is how Velvette does sometimes use more "official" language like Carmilla, but only ever in a mocking way. Things like "Sorry group attending", the term "respectless" itself, and particularly her final line of getting up in Carmilla's face to ask if she "has a disclosure". It shows that she knows how she should be acting, and actively chooses to disregard it rather than simply not knowing how to behave.
It also makes sense that she'd purposely opt for more typical language with her social media job for the sake of relatability and relevance (honestly that underlying intelligence and purposeful disregard for convention makes me love her even more)
i’ve said this in a previous comment but i LOVE the vibes of criticism as a love language and that comes across so well in this video. and as an argument for the ending of the song, to me (and i’ve seen others say this as well) carmella ending the meeting without rebuttal is just as bad if not WORSE for her than admitting she killed the angel. but it’s anticlimactic, and that’s why the very dramatic velvette is upset - she won the argument, but with no fanfare like she wanted. even though she just called carmella on something major, carmella still has the power to say “we’re done here, that’s all, goodbye.” velvette would see that as a cowards move (similarly to vox calling alastor a coward for retreating in ep 8) and be upset she didn’t get to sink her fangs into her enemy. meanwhile the other overlords start theorizing and plotting, but they’re not standing directly with velvette. i think it works well as a story beat, but i get that from a songwriting perspective it doesn’t have that Punch
Thank you so much! I really like that take on the ending, like she was waiting for the other overlords to be like "Velvette is right, we need answers!" from everyone else and absolutely no one backed her up lol. She expected everyone to clap and no one clapped LOL
@@CalxiynCaresTooMuchIt was essentially a rap battle, Carmilla was destroyed by the "you know why this angel's head less" and conceeded defeat. There was no comeback from that. She had no option except to conceed defeat. Which yes, includes all but admitting it was her who took out the exorcist. Again... No come back was possible. Too devastating a line Similar to how Alastor destroyed Vox in their rap battle. There was no comeback after "he asked me to join his team.." as evidence by Vox's flailing and complete inanity afterwards. Complete with buffering lol Literal blue screen of death
I think the reason the beats are even in “Nothin’ less than what I please.” And “I’m the backbone of the Vees.” Is because she says “Woo!” Between the two.
21:30 I think what Velvet was referring to when she said "turning red" is that before the song when everyone was talking about Zestial's retort to Velvet suggestion, you can see that she scans the room and sees Carmillia in corner looked ashamed. In that moment, Velvet grins and starts to mock Zestial. Like she says near the end of the song, by acting respectless she was able to pick up that Carmillia was hiding something.
I wish they had made Carmilla actually a bit more 'red' compared to her actually turning away, because people do blush when they feel embarrassed or "ashamed" (or like they are getting caught in 4k) but a stronger visual would have helped I think. Maybe even another cue of Carmilla sweating would have been a good idea (though I must admit, I don't have access to the show anymore cause I lost my Amazon Prime subscription so I'm saying this from what I REMEMBER the scene looking like lol). I need a fact check on what they do to Carmilla's face lol.
I was viewing this as more British pop rap versus Spanish opera personally which I must admit never thought in my life I would hear that kind of multi genre mix in a singing fight.
I took '"Well it's 'cause no one could respect this" to be more of a jab directly at Carmilla/Zestiel at the head of the table. Like she's saying "Well, maybe I would respect you if you weren't afraid to fight even with evidence in front of you that we can". It's another instance of her trying to take jabs at their authority.
I think the reason why I like this song so much is how it acts as a perfect microcosm for Velvette’s position in the scene. It doesn’t seem like it at first, but she’s the one in control the entire time. This whole song is just her damaging Carmilla’s authority and then baiting her into indirectly confirming that she’s the one who killed the angel. Carmilla didn’t realize that she was being played until it was too late. The music (among many other things) illustrates this in a simple but effective way. It starts with Carmilla’s grander musical, only for Velvette to complete hijack it with a pop-style, and Carmilla never succeeds in getting her momentum back. She tries, but even when her guitars come back in for a moment they don’t replace Velvette’s pop, just play over it for a bit before getting swept away again. In the end, all Carmilla can do is shut down the meeting to prevent further discussion, which is essentially a surrender. It’s why Velvette leaves the meeting in such high spirits. She won, and she knows it. Personally, I think that this song was needed after episode 2. That was our first introduction to the Vees, and Vox getting his ass handed to him by Alastor at every turn was entertaining, but not threatening. It made the Vees come off like they weren’t really a big deal. Then in comes Velvette in ep 3. She seems like a stereotype of a bratty, overconfident influencer, and Carmilla definitely treats her as such. Then both Carmilla and the audience learn that underestimating Velvette based on her attitude or inexperience is a BIG mistake, as she proves to be more clever, observant, and manipulative than anyone thought. She proves that the Vees, while they may be the new kids on the block among the Overlords, can actually walk the walk when they need to.
I think ‘nothin less than what I please’ feels really satisfying with how the ‘-thin’ and ‘than’ aaalmost rhyme, and the stress on ‘noth-‘ and ‘what’ makes them sound similar too, so there’s this extra layer of rhythm to it Velvette’s last verse was actually my favorite! To me the shortening lines felt like the song was narrowing to a point, kind of representing how Velvette was switching from general smacktalk to closing in on Carmilla and pinning her down
Honestly, I feel like Carmilla's opening being a bit messy fits the character of the song, Velvette is trying to get them riled up, and right before the start of the song she's already taking jabs at Zestiel, who's kinda coded as Carmilla's partner, so her opening being sloppy shows that yes, Vel is already on her nerves, and though she seems composed, she's not actually as even tempered as she lets off at first, but is rather just practiced at hiding it.
The only problem is that this also happens in 'Whatever It Takes' (which I talked about last week if you haven't seen it) and so it can seem like it's intentional if it only happens in angry moments, but it happens with her all the time. They hate her ass I swear LOL
a personal favourite is "mad that i acted respectless?" which has its obvious meaning, but also because shes british it can also be interpreted as in "crazy that i acted respectless!" which to me shows that shes almost offended they would be indignant at her obviously very correct reaction to their cowardice....
Respectless was my favorite song in the series. It was just such an amazing way to portray an argument through a song, well more on Velvet's part. But i love their powerful voices the most too with the lyrics
Imperfection is the name of the game when it comes to telling a story. Humans are imperfect. It's why so many great musical performances aren't sung with exact notes and rhythms. So I can forgive a half-rhyme sometimes.
The use of uninformed imo was used to show naivety about the situation. Misinform would be calling the vees liars. Knowing the truth and saying otherwise. Uninformed is more reference to the information we gain later in the series. How angels can die. If they acted on the incomplete information of “they can”, without the “how” They would end up dying due to lack of information. Carmella is just warning them straight up since she’s not willing to disclose that information herself.
Oh yeah, I know it would end up having a different meaning but I think it may be worth it for the rhyme lol. Because either way the Vees are liars - Vox says he has a way to stop the angels when he doesn’t.
"Can't" as a contraction of "cannot" is a lot older than a lot of people think, and fits with the meaning more than "shan't" as a contraction of "shall not" would've, both for what Zestial and Carmilla were saying of, "there are things you don't know, we *cannot* act" (because its unthinkable for Carmilla) vs "there are things you don't know, we *will* not act" and Velvet's accusations of them being incompetent because they're admitting that there's something they *can't* do and how could anyone respect someone so incompetent... Yeah, thats my only big nitpick, lol
A a non-native speaker I was flabbergasted as you said how respectless is an old and not so used word and then after 5 minutes it hit me that respectless sounds like “respektlos” a German word for disrespectful and that’s why it sounded so familiar to me😂😂
I disagree with you thinking that "heed" wasn't a good word choice. I absolutely love that little bit from Carmilla. I love the "do not heed when you've been warned". It sounds a little old-time, while being a vague threat. My main gripe with this song is visual, because Carmilla's face didn't *actually* turn red when the Angel's head was shown.
Regarding the "Expect Us" phrase. I think the word Us is doing a lot of narrative work there and is vital for that. One of Viv's tells regarding the character of the characters is displays of empathy. The Us is there to show her communal point of view. We see this reinforced when her return duet with Vaggie emphasizes the power and strength of Love. So the whole story is when Velvette is dissing Zestial she is dissing Us.
I love ur breakdowns of songs and their lyrics, it’s so interesting and fun to listen to!! it’s really fun to hear ur thoughts on what changes u would’ve preferred, what u like and what u think is weird. one of my favourite things about show songs is how they characterise and show characters’ personalities and I really like how u take note of that too. u actually try to understand the song in context of a show and a character on top of how good it is as a standalone thing and I really appreciate that :D
Thank you so much!! Musical theatre is all about the character so I find it really important to discuss. Every character has a different way of singing, different instruments, and different word choice I really find interesting! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it 💖
I personally view Carmilla's lines being not as good as intentional because she's lashing out and to emotional to come up with better lyrics. I also don't think Velvet would say "the angels won't forget this" because it was established that her and the Vees don't think these things through and don't understand what they're getting into. She's arrogant and thinks that just because they now have a means to kill angels that it will be an equal fight, which it most likely is not.
This is a personal thing but I think that the idea of being overly emotional should come from the actor vs the lyrics, if that makes sense. Like it's more effective to have something structurally consistent + the actor being unstable to create depth. With Vee, I see her as a little bit nuanced which is why I suggested that, like smarter than she lets on. But it's hard to say since we see her so infrequently.
except it is equal because this show is shit so somehow they won this fight while only losing background characters and without the majority of overlords
I’ve noticed this syllables issue with a few Hazbin songs, and I immediately thought of “Don’t speak to Zestial that way” to keep it at 7. I also feel in the moment it would fit more with Carmilla trying to educate Velvette on how the Overlords do things.
Lots of the songs seem to have this weird thing and I’m not sure why. Idk if the composer/lyricist team likes it for some reason, but I don’t like it LOL.
@@CalxiynCaresTooMuchAt best an argument can be made of “Hell/Sinners are imperfect so the songs are imperfect,” but when it starts to be almost every song it turns into less of an analytical point and more of a problem lol
Yeah I totally agree with you. Like it's fine if it's occasionally but this combined with the lyricist(?) saying they wrote all the songs in 8-10 weeks I was like.... oh man
I am personally thought turning red was a reference to anger, the description reminded me of old cartoons where someone's face went red and steam flew out their ears
Yeah, I think you guys are right! It's also just sort of weird in the context of the show because there's not really that element present. All the demons have unrealistic skin-tones so you can't really tell lol.
I think the reason Carmilla says “inane and uninformed” is due to the fact that Velvette and the other Vees don’t ACTUALLY know or have a way to kill the angels, they’re just guessing that they can be killed by basic fighting back. I don’t think Carmilla should have to explain WHY she thinks they’re “uninformed”. It’s hinting that Carmilla knows more than them and they, by comparison, are uninformed. She shouldn’t have to spell it out for the audience. The audience is smarter than people think. And saying, “mislead and misinform” isn’t necessary because the audience already knows that. It’s like introducing a character twice. We already know they, specifically Vox, mislead the masses and are liars. In my opinion, vagueness can be a good thing, because you can set up more interesting plots and possibilities later on. Edit: I think the ending part, where the syllable count drops, was actually a good thing. I think it shows Velvette slowing down and truly showing that she’s smarter than them and she’s not just some idiot who got lucky. She’s outright saying that with her observations, her educated guess, and her watching Carmilla’s reactions, she figured out that Carmilla is the angel killer. And she was right. Carmilla did it. Velvette was the first person to figure it out without it being told to her. So, I think her slowing down works because Velvette is flexing and showing that Carmilla isn’t as smart as she thinks she is. That’s what I got out of it at least.
I am OBSESSED with this song, I was waiting for you to cover it XD I felt like the part towards the end "You know why this angel's headless". Around that part it was a little awkward but tbh I had to forgive it for how TIGHT the rest of the song is!!
I have it on repeat, I can’t stop listening to it. Now that the show is over I gotta look up the singer and see if they’ve posted anything else (like song covers) cause I just love her voice. Yeah I feel the exact same way. I will pretend I do not hear it 😂
Wow. This is my first time coming across a video with musical lessons. You have a crazy understanding of music. Alot of the things you mentioned made me realize why i like the songs i like. And why any of the little things i come up with and never share never sound quite right.
You said rhyming "misinformed" and "warned" was them rhyming with the "-ed" But "form" very closely rhymes with "warn" aside from the m switching to n, so I think it works
@@CalxiynCaresTooMuch I also had no problem with the rhyme, but maybe it didn't work for you because the "n" and "d" in "warned" are phonetically similar so they blend together really well as opposed to the "m" and "d" in "misinformed" which are more distinct
About the ending verse for Velvette losing a bit of rhyming and solid flow to me, at least I chopped it up to sort of fitting her as a character more. In the final verse, Velvette has already confirmed her suspicions or at least knows she's onto something. And if we also think about Velvette as her "stereotype" as the social media genius one, then her starting to lose rhythmic flow instead just be on the offensive and blitz Carmilla to me fits because she is doing as Social Media does. She is hoping to be louder and more overwhelming to seem bigger than Carmilla and everyone present, hence her being on the table and slowly making her way over to Carmilla. It to me reminded me of how social media and people like Velvette can be. She had already gotten her answers more or less, and now she was using methods that in the universe shes seen and exploited online and in person to drown out her opposition until they relent
13:28 I feel like "I ain't swiping right" works really well and it's not so cringy because even if you don't get the tinder reference, you still get her Mood of not getting well with the meeting vibe (right Is a clever play of double meaning: right for direction, but also right as judgment), so I think that really blends well in the Song and, depending on the person, it also hints at the reference you mention. P.S. I play piano since primary school, so I also love analysing meaning of songs packed of content that are also catchy for me, and I really like your analysis, good job🔥
Great analysis!! At first i was surprised with your song choice because respectless wasnt one of my favorite songs at all, and i think the main reason is the lack of variation in the instrumental throughout the song that made it sound a little boring to me :') seeing your point of view as a professional really helped me to understand the good and the bad in this song!! Also im excited to see you talking abt "whatever it takes" bc i cant understand why i hate it so much LOLL and i loved "loser baby" so i hope you'll talk about it later! Thanks for the amazing content 🫶🫶 (and sorry for the bad english
Thank you so much!! Your english is fine, don't worry! Yeah I agree with you about the lack of variation in the instrumental, that's something this song could have used. But I'm glad I was able to give you new reasons to appreciate it! I also don't like "Whatever It Takes", but Loser Baby is in my top 3 for sure so it seems like our taste is similar XD I'll continue to talk about them all!
10:30 I don't know if someone correct you or not already but no I think there is no breath in this 7 the previous line becomes 7 because of "Nothin' less than what I please WOOOH!!!"
Regarding 'nothin' less than what I please//I'm the backbone of the Vees' I really don't think there's a breath, I think the lines just get evened out by Vel's little 'woo!' before she moves to the next line. And also yes, 'nothin' less' sounds very good, I dunno why either XD Regarding 'uniformed' I think it's Carmilla just talking about the situation with the exorcist, helping allow Velvette to pick up that Carmilla must know something. If Carmilla doesn't know about the exorcist head, why are the Vees especially uninformed? Shouldn't all the overlords be uniformed 👀 but hey, your suggestion wasn't bad either ^^
I’ve done musical theater in my day, but only for a couple years and my take on this video is if everything was “perfect” and each word rhymes perfectly and every note was musically “correct” I think the song would be kinda boring and flat. The song has a push and pull to me with Velvet winning majority of the time in the song and Carmilla being caught knowing more than what was told which makes Velvet right for calling her out. I like that there are “flaws” in the music. It’s catchy to me personally. Nothing in musicals or songs has to be musically perfect to be something absolutely show stopping. There is a reason why this song is one of the most viewed out of the whole series. Also, most of the cast is filled with musical theater singers, so I think with the way some of the voice actors sing it helps. Also accents play a big role too. I have a very hard time singing most of the Six the musical songs well in my normal American accent. It just simply doesn’t sound good sung in an American accent. Those twangs and pronunciations play a huge role, plus the show originally was in the West End anyway. Most times musicals from their home country sound better. So I always sing those songs with a British accent. It just sounds cleaner because just speaking those words in an American accent or even Canadian accent how you would learn any song it sounds messy to our ears. Also, with them being uniformed line we get a lot of information in the episode about what’s happening. She has a dead angel’s head from extermination day. This isn’t very much new information so it’s not a strange lyric to say to the people watching since we saw this dead angel in episode one. Velvet knows Carmilla thinks she’s dumb, but she isn’t. She’s smart and trying to get a rise out of her and it’s working. I don’t think a key change would have made the song any better than it already is personally. Another song works better with a key change that being Out for love in episode 7, but that is only one person singing. If there was a key change I don’t think it would have worked so much. Velvet is trying to keep Carmilla in this pull. Carmilla knows something and she caught her. She has to keep her cool, and that’s why at the end Carmilla hits the big belt note insisting nothing was caught and this meeting is now over showing Velvet that she was right all along even though Carmilla wants to just be done with it. A key change sure would be big and grand and impressive and musically could put more pressure on Carmilla, but Carmilla is already being put on the spot by Velvet anyway. Not everything has to be grand in music to get the point across. Also the turning red point, faces also turn red when someone is mad or totally pissed which Velvet is doing to Carmilla. She gets under peoples skin good and very much makes a lot of people mad and she enjoys it. Over all sure the song isn’t “perfect” but if everything was “perfect” then nothing would ever be in music. The normal watcher won’t look too deep into the patterns and lyrics of the songs. They are more focused on the actions that are taking place. This also could just be differing opinions for the song 😅 I am very bias as a Hazbin Hotel fan and this being one of my favorite songs. No hate at all, I just try not to be over critical of things in music because it doesn’t let me enjoy the song and feels like I’m now being over critical of it and now there are flaws and it needs to be fixed. I don’t know. The video was good though 😅 I am just trying not to be critical with music because it makes me enjoy it less. Nothing has to be perfect to be enjoyed. This show already gets so much flak for not being good enough and too messy to others 🥲
I’m not sure if you got to the very end but I talk about that sentiment at 26:34 - in terms of imperfection to add character vs imperfection as mistakes!
Oh I did get to the end, but everything you said made me take away now the flaws in the song that now needed to be fixed to then make the song “perfect”. Like the certain rhymes and lyrics. I don’t know that’s what I personally got. Maybe I am looking too much into it 😅 I’m sorry. I rant a lot on things I like.
What I meant was things like “breakfast” not perfectly rhyming, that stuff doesn’t need to be fixed to me. Or “twisted” and “missed it”. Just because I mentioned it doesn’t mean it needs a fix to me, basically. I’d keep those imperfections. But I think that Carmilla’s parts cross over a certain amount haha
That’s fair. No hate at all. I just rant a lot and didn’t see the song having bad imperfections before I watched this video 😅. They could have done better on Carmilla’s verses though. Velvet is just that B ❤
To be fair, Carmilla calling the Vees "Inane and Uninformed" works for the sole reason none of them know how/under what circumstances the Angel they found died, yet they already wanna be marching to war. As for Carmilla having the last word, was meant for her to save face and cut her off before she reveals too much or gets the ogher overlords on her side. For why then Velvette frowns? She technically didn't what she wanted. She wanted a confession, for Carmilla to admit that she did it. Instead she was cut off and was refused her actual victory. So while Velvette won by a technicallity, cuz she very much controlled the meeting, by her standards, she didn't "Win" win.
im absolutely eating up these hazbin videos, great work :] really excited for the whatever it takes breakdown, its one of my least favourite songs in the series so im looking forward to hearing what you have to say about it!
I actually quite like how Carmilla has the last line because of the way it's framed. She's cornered, Velvette is on the brink of having what she wants, Carmilla cannot respond without giving Velvette what she wanted, it's checkmate, so Carmilla does the one thing she can and loudly proclaims the end of the meeting, essentially nuking the event she organized there to avoid having to confess. She admits defeat, but in the process denies Velvette what she wanted, which was the confirmation that she killed the angel, therefore the key piece of information she needed to convince the rest of them to go to war. Plus it enforces their power dynamic, both from the perspective that Velvette's social intelligence and defying attitude forced Carmilla to take extreme measures to stop her humiliation, but also the fact that even with all that Carmilla is still, hierarchically speaking, leagues above of her and holds the power, being able to completely shut down Velvette with just 4 words. That last point also reminds me of a mother telling their bratty child to "go to their room" after an argument, which... I don't think it's ever been confirmed that Velvette is one of Carmilla's daughters, but that's the vibe it gives me on that scene specifically, and in any case it enforces her motherly traits. Doesn't matter if the brat is hers or not, if she says she's grounded the kid better obey.👺 Also, as a sidenote, I really like Zestial's verse here, it shows his intelligence very well. Contrary to Carmilla who interrupts, brings complete attention to herself and comes in with her own loud and imposing melody halfway through, Zestial just has a brief verse where he smoothly continues Velvette's melody in a way that shows her that she isn't going to get a reaction out of him, exemplified by his smug face that remains up until Velvette slams her hands into the table and challenges him directly. This smoothness might also explain why he uses a less refined and more modern vocabulary for this verse which... again with the parental metaphors, looks kinda like how you'd bend over your knee to get on a kid's level when talking to them, he's basically talking down to her from how I interpret it. Finally, his phrase is really good, and I'm gonna steal a comment I read a while ago to explain that (don't remember where). When he says "we can't act without more intelligence," the word "intelligence" carries a double meaning here. It could be the one most appropriate to the context, as in information, basically meaning "we don't have enough info to formulate a cohesive plan." BUT it can also be literally "intelligence," as in he's calling her dumb for her reckless behavior. By doing this, he's got her in a chokehold since she cannot respond without in some way validating his insult, because if she decides to respond to the insult directly he can say "I was just saying we don't have enough info, are you this insecure?" But if she decides to ignore the insult and respond to the actual thing he just said, it will look like she didn't catch his double meaning, making her look dumb. So Velvette smartly takes the only approach she can by backing the hell off and concluding she won't get anything out of that guy, proving that he's too wise to be provoked like that. Only after that does she go back for a last affront against him by catching him off-guard with a very direct threat/challenge "I could eat you lot for breakfast," which finally breaks his posture because he never would've expected her to be this reckless and direct. Oops, I think I went on for way too long and ended up talking more about Zestial than Carmilla, but still. This is my favorite song on the show and I really liked your analysis!
I think the vagueness of Carmilla's bridge, whether intentional or not, establishes the perception the Overlords with the most staying power have towards the Vees rather than the actual role the trio plays. Exploiting and manipulating the populace of Hell is pretty much the baseline for those who gain power through subjugating others to rise in power and influence, so misleading and misinforming would be par for the course among them. The real note to gain from this bridge is what Carmilla DOES claim to disapprove of, that being the Vees' perceived reckless/incompetent behavior. As the Vees are the freshest faces of genuine power among Sinners, who rose to such a position through methods that defy those that the old garde are accustomed to from their own societal ascensions, those who've held power for longer are unfamiliar with the methods themselves and how they work, and assume the Vees are riding the cultural wave of the trends they weaponize, attributing their success in its entirety to "right place, right time" rather than deliberate action. As a result, they're actively underestimated by many of the longer lasting Overlords, which as you've mentioned, is even nodded to by Velvette's statement that "it's cause no one could respect this." While the point of the Vees being reliant on trends and prone to reckless action is certainly not unfounded (as established VERY thoroughly in Radio Killed the Video Star), they still have the genuine competence and cunning needed to properly utilize the methods that succeeded in the first place. Because the old garde are unfamiliar with the complexities of the media that their power rests on and either too busy or dismissive to learn about them, they are prone to underestimate the trio and overlook the signs of their capabilities. And it's because of this that Velvette is so effectively able to provoke the reaction out of Carmilla that she was aiming for throughout the entire number.
Stayed Gone is only my fifth favorite, so I didn't really care, but funnily enough, the issues you bring up with Respectless, my first favorite, about 'not expecting' things and 'not pulling the listener in' just all of that, I didn't notice an issue with. It's one of my favorite songs to sing too, and I've never had problems with any lines. So it's just really interesting to hear all these problems that I either didn't notice or didn't have lol Edit: Aaaaah you didn't like WiT XD It's not one of my favorites but I thought it was so beautiful lmao
Ok so I've barely started this video so far but oh my god someone who shares my feelings on pop music I've enjoyed a few things in the past but once I found musicals it's just been really really hard to turn back
I didn’t know you did these kinds of vids unpacking lyrics and songwriting! I was a music major trying to learn to compose music (primarily instrumental), but I’ve always wanted to take part these songs, but my vocabulary for theatre/pronunciation is only so good. I liked your perspective!
My god you are INCREDIBLY underrated!! You’re exactly the channel I’ve been looking for. I LOVE musical theatre stuff and I like how you analyze things without sounding rude, while at the same time really going into depth on your opinion, and the topic. I really enjoyed your other videos! Can’t wait to be a regular viewer!
3:29 I think the concept you were looking for is consonance? Not 100% tho I don't think that Carmilla was meant to "win" because she got the last word. The thing I and I think Velvet got out of that was closer to "don't run you coward" than her taking back control Your criticism of these lyrics is really interesting to someone who doesn't think too much/know a lot about the specifics and mechanics
The issue for me with Respectless is that it didn't have a payoff, she didn't help Charlie fight angels, not even a simple "hey, take x amount of aid from me, I'm on yo side" Some will say "well, she just lied, egged on overlords to die in extermination while Vs consolidate power" ok fair nuff, but then why her reaction to recording was 😐. No reaction no cheering or jeering for hotel failure, Vox had better character moment here then Velvet
Yeah that’s a good point. Like I would have liked a “YEAH I WAS RIGHT BITCH!!!” Sorta thing lol. Maybe in season 2? We talk about this on my main channel but this season felt like 12 episodes condensed into 8 episodes, ya know what I mean?
14:20 i feel like cannot and shall not have very different connotations and that's why they used can't, like it's not just that they won't, they Can't, it's more intense. it definitely feels intentional because acting without thinking, what he's saying they would be doing, wouldn't work in starting a war, a war started on a whim like that would lead to further devastation in Hell. They don't have the proper ways to get info on Heaven so they can't win so they can't start a war, not just that they won't. both are fine in Shakespearean English, they just mean different things, also that one is considered archaic to a modern ear and the other stayed in fashion
Yeah that’s fair! Can’t is like “we physically do not have the power” whereas “shan’t” is like “we shall not, because we don’t want to” lol. I can see that!
You know what? Velvette's become something of a fan favorite due to this song, and I think this video kind of helped me articulate why that is. Velvette is RIGHT; she takes Carmilla to TASK in this song, with superior rhymes, flow, and points. But Carmilla gets the last word. Despite Velvette's best efforts, Carmilla still runs the Overlords; and given her wits and resourcefulness, Velvette seems to deserve that spot more than her. It becomes an injuestice that Carmilla's in charge instead of Velvette. Velvette is the underdog here. And we all empathize with her as a result.
I think you are exactly right! People love an underdog, and Velvette also has as much information as the audience does, so we root for her because we know she's right!
Your fix for Carmilla's second line is good, but it also would give the song a completely different trajectory, because as it is, it's Carmilla calling them unfocused fools, which doesn't really address the topic at hand, letting Vel get off her last retort, whereas "Mislead and misinform" would be more on track to keeping her reputation in tact by saying "Your crew's whole thing is lying and misinforming people, why should anyone follow you into your desire for war?", giving her an actual bite back to all the poking Velvette's done into her status as seemingly head overlord instead.
Yeah I see what you mean. But I think Velvette could still challenge that because the idea would be “You’re calling me a liar? Well you’re lying right now!” - so in terms of losing and winning I think Velvette could still get back on train to winning even if Carmilla makes a valid point
I absolutely love your approach to criticism. You're not mindlessly hating, you're trying to give feedback for future improvement, and it's so refreshing to see your less hateful views when compared to the clout-chasers who hate on the show because it's considered "cOoL" to dislike something popular.
Thank you! I really appreciate that. My friend and I react to the show on my other channel, so we do enjoy it - but let's say even hypothetically, that I didn't: I think it's important for people within this industry to "keep tabs" on these projects, so to speak. Because love it or hate it, this show is going to set a precedent for whether or not more musical theatre animated shows get made that aren't necessarily for children. The same way that "Wish" may set a negative precedent for Disney wanting to make another musical any time soon. For the sake of future success, it's important that we articulate what we don't like beyond the fact we don't like it. Or companies like Disney, for example, will get the message of "they don't like musicals" when it's "We don't like that this was written by a pop musician". For anything I criticize I have that mindset, that I need to be specific as an audience member what I liked because otherwise companies will take it the wrong way, if you let them. I don't expect, like, the people who made the show will ever see these. But I do hope that it gives people a larger vocabulary for when they talk about musicals, so they can say more than "this song felt weird" and instead be able to leave a review like "this felt weird BECAUSE of this thing that could be fixed." 😊
THANK YOU FOR SAYING IT SOUNDS LIKE SIX I THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY 😭 I've been wanting t draw velvette in anne boleyn's outfit but I can't figure out how to make the colors work
I was curious if anyone else noticed how much one of the last songs in the show(the part of it where they are building) sounds a lot like "Opening Up" from waitress, and Nifty, voiced by the girl from Waitress, sings the first line of that part.
I think Carmilla said she wanted to keep blood off her face because she could be considered to already have blood on her hands as an arms dealer. Blood on her face is much more personal. Also her weapons are on her feet so if you want to be technical she has blood on her feet. She could also be referring to her face as her metaphorical public persona, but that seems less likely since she is still keeping it a secret.
This video helped "Respectless" move from being my least favorite song in HH to not being my least favorite song in HH. This video made me realize I feel Carmilla's lyrics drag the song down (along with the lack of unique visuals animation-wise). As you mentioned, Vel's singing voice slaps and some of the rhymes are solid.
Thank you! Yeah I feel like Carmilla is like... the weird prologue before the song actually gets good. It's like The Wizard and I and how it has the Madame Morrible part at the beginning that everyone skips, LOL
Yeah that’s fair! I knew that when I suggested it but it’s more so if a slight adjustment of the meaning is worth switching out the word. Like I said either way it’s technically fine ^^ Can’t has more “we physically are not able to” whereas shall not would be more they don’t want to, but judging by the finale I think “don’t want to” would have been fine to say in hindsight haha.
when you talked about the "nothin' less than what i please" part, the thing you might have noticed about it is that the "nothin' less" part is done in a triplet. i always notice it because it seems like instead of the standard three eighth notes in a beat it sounded more like three sixteenth notes in half a beat
I thought carmellia having the last word was meant to show velvette loss. Velvette came in wanting the overlords to join her, to rise up and fight. Zestial seemed to side with Carmellia and after his line of cant act without more intelligence it seemed most overlords agreed not to fight. So velvette didn't accomplish her goal there, besides calling out the overlords.
Yeah, and that's why I'm not a big fan of it. Because it reads as a loss and I feel like given the context of the rest of the show, it should have been a win. Because it exposes something about Carmilla and without this scene, in Episode 7(?) Alastor wouldn't have been able to make a deal with Charlie.
This are the lyrics that she proposed: Show some respect Check your behavior No one speaks to Zestial that way Did you expect We'd sit back and take your Insolent, brazen display You've got it twisted I'm not the one who needs a new attitude Maybe you missed it But I'm that hashtag bitch, and I will do Nothing less than what I please I'm the backbone of the vess Mad that I acted respectless Well, it's 'couse no one could respect this Sorry, group attending Since when are Overlords too scared to fight? You're long past trending Sorry, bae, but I ain't swiping right You lost your relevance We can't act without more intelligence Ugh No wonder I'm so respectless When I could eat you lot for breakfast You and the vees all mislead and misinform Smug wannabees who don't heed the gatherin' storm Oops, Did I strike a nerve? 'Couse when I brought out the Angel's head Couldn't help but observe That your wrinkled face was turning red And why are you avoiding war? That's what the guns you sell are for Thanks to my being respectless One thing I'm starting to suspect is You know the Angel's won't forget this We will speak of this no more I have what I came for
"Inane and Uninformed" is, I think, a foreshadowing of Carmilla's next two songs, as well as making her opinion about the Vees clear. As for 'misinformed', that has one more mora than 'uninformed' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mora_(linguistics).
Zestial says cant instead of shant cause he changes the way he sings based on who he's singing to/with. He changes how speaks to speak in ways whoever hes talking to can understand. That's just my opinion tho ^.^
I personally like Carmilla getting the last word. She has the power to call of the meeting at any moment, so Velvette didn't get what she wanted. She wanted to push Carmilla's buttons more but Carmilla was basically like "we're done here." Meaning Velvette no longer has the chance to.
I see what you mean. I guess my thing is though, Carmilla could have done that at any time. If a character has that much power and doesn’t use it, there has to be a reason beyond “it’s a song so they need to let Velvette sing”. Since Carmilla could have yeeted her at any point it makes me wonder why Carmilla just let her go on in the first place. I think your take works though with what we see of Carmilla later as the show goes on, she seems more important than the Vees atm which re-contextualized things
@@CalxiynCaresTooMuch true enough. I do agree with your analysis of the song - I don't have much musical experience so who am I to say if a song is technically good or not? I can only speak on if I like it or not and I love the songs from Hazbin. I have watched a lot of your Hazbin analysis though and the majority of the time you point out issues I have with the songs myself. Like Happy Day in Hell telling you how Charlie feels about Hell vs showing you like Disney songs usually do. You did compare it to Welcome to Rosas saying they are opposite sides of the same spectrum but in that case I prefer the "knowing how the character feels" side than the "this exists" side. I have been binging these because the show's potential is great, even if in some places it falls flat. I do wish it was better, because the show deserves better.
Alright so I can understand what you’re saying about can’t seeming out of place, but I looked it up it’s from the 1650s. It’s one of those many words that seems more modern than it is. We is a newer word, and logically he would have picked up on bits of modern speech throughout his time in hell
Omg yes, Respectless is my favorite too! Has made me want to sing it constantly which really makes you realize where some wording could have been improved even slightly. Still super fun, but could’ve been better! And I will say I actually really love how the song starts with a bit of clunk. Camilla is unusually losing her composure so has to work up to it. But it is at the sacrifice of a better song overall so I’m not sure what I would prefer
This isn’t always the case but personally I like my “clunk” to come from the performer vs the actual song. Like a performer deciding to stutter or something like that because they’re so angry. I know exactly what you mean though!
honestly I think the "respectless", "suspect is", "headless" part is fine because theyre not just making the "less" part rhyme, but also the "eh" pronunciation of "respEct", "suspEct", and "hEad". I think you take more issue with them switching from "-ect" to "-ead", based on what you said about the "uninformed" and "warned" part switching from "m" to "n" (which is valid lol). also the "eh" sound is used earlier in the word "headless" than it is in the other two words, but I think they make up for this by extending some parts of the words and shortening others, like this: "respeeectless", "suspeeect is", "heeeadless".
I love this song but my favorite from the first season is definitely more than anything. Makes me tear up every time and Lucifer’s voice actor’s singing voice is absolutely beautiful. Which is contrasted with the fun, funny, and silly song he sang just before it with Alastor that made the ballad after so unexpected. I’m still jealous of how beautiful that voice was and how pretty the song was.
the other Vs are relatively old while the second youngest is Valentino as he died in the 70s and the oldest, Vox, died in the 50s....only around 30 years after Alastor
Huh, I had no idea that the word "respectless" is so uncommon in English. I supposed the word has its roots in the German influence of the English language because we have that word too "Respektlos" and it sounds perfectly normal.
personally i have a feeling that the beginning part might've been done like that on purpose as Carmilla just lost her composure and also the feeling of not knowing what comes next in the lyrics in this moment would actually make sense cuz shes basically scolding Velvette like a parent
WAIT WAIT WAIT! Respectless is not a regularly used word? (Confused foreigner thinking face) So there is respectful (full of respect) and no respectless (without respect)... Instead is used disrespectful (not full of respect) what is less harsh and longer to write. Ok... English is a strange language indeed...
18:54 i dislike your suggestion, "heed the gathering storm" doesnt communicate the message of "back down" it communicates a message of "prepare yourself"
The thing with that is - telling Velvette to backdown has absolutely no pay off for the rest of the season whereas the idea that the angels will exterminate them soon does. I’d agree with you, if the rest of the show cared about this lol
I’ve always considered Hazbin to be a show you could critically pick apart but when you just sit back and enjoy the show the criticism melts away, you’re the first person to make that fact clear during criticisms.
🤨🧐 I reacted to the show with my best friend on our main UA-cam Channel and that is just not true LMAO. It's very noticeable to the point where you cannot just "sit back" because how sloppy the writing gets sometimes, both the songs and in the script just take you out of it.
I would love to - with some of them I think the issue would be the instrumental wouldn’t match the melody anymore (like the one I did for Wish) but I think for this song I could have gotten away with it lol. I can’t do the British accent though 😂
I'm really interested in what you think about 'Poison', because me personally, I honestly didn't really like it, I thought they repeated the word poison to many times
I’m working on it right now! It should be interesting because a couple people have asked for my opinion and explained why they don’t like it - but my opinion is very different… hehehe
This might be a little late, but I would LOVE to see you do a similar sort of review of Epic the Musical which is a set concept albums baseed on the story of the odyssey.
I can relate so much to your opinion on pop music it just lacks the soul that musical have , BUT the only singer I can and love listening is Michael Jackson, he was extremely inspired by Disney and it shows , his songs are unique and tell a story he also has an amazing control on his voice , and there were rare interviews where he would explain his creative decisions and it thought me so much , so I'd love to hear your thoughts about him and his music , sorry it's really out of subject I know 😅
Oh you’re totally on subject! I also like Michael Jackson. Honestly the thing about my opinions on pop music is that when I say I don’t like pop I mean in a general sense. But there are always exceptional people who break those rules, like Michael Jackson, Chappell Roan, Abba, Elvis, whoever haha. There is good pop music out there, some musicians are just once in a life time though!
6:04 I think the first line is okay with "You better" still being there, only for the fact that it is a pick up before the actual line, "show some respect" It doesn't really have to follow the rest of the pattern. But other than that, your changes are very valid.
My *only* wish with this song is that they had a British actress play Velvette... because as amazing a Lili Cooper is, her accent is a little whack to hear sometimes (Still one of the best British accents i've heard from an American actress though)
I think I quickly got caught on this song because the actress uses such a similar accent to mine, which was a nice surprise considering I was expecting them to all be American
Yeah, I love that part too!
Too devastating a line
Similar to how Alastor destroyed Vox in their rap battle.
There was no comeback after "he asked me to join his team.." as evidence by Vox's flailing and complete inanity afterwards.

@@fishraposo7192 6alt 66sne6 is what it should be called in hell universe.
I think the reason the beats are even in “Nothin’ less than what I please.” And “I’m the backbone of the Vees.” Is because she says “Woo!” Between the two.
Yeah, I think so too. I couldn’t figure out if the “woo” was giving enough time for that to happen or not so I was like “it worked somehow 😂”
I think ‘nothin less than what I please’ feels really satisfying with how the ‘-thin’ and ‘than’ aaalmost rhyme, and the stress on ‘noth-‘ and ‘what’ makes them sound similar too, so there’s this extra layer of rhythm to it
Velvette’s last verse was actually my favorite!
Ohhhh that's true. I always forget the British slang angle LOL
Respectless was my favorite song in the series. It was just such an amazing way to portray an argument through a song, well more on Velvet's part. But i love their powerful voices the most too with the lyrics
Was?
I haven’t seen the new episode yet but it’s definitely in my top 3 so far! When the series is done and I finish my analysis videos I’ll rank them!
It became my number one favorite instantly, and so far nothing's topped it. Out for Love was close, but I still love Respectless more 🤩
On your point about Zestial saying 'can't'. That's actually pretty normal. He is speaking early modern english, in which the word 'can't' existed.
Imperfection is the name of the game when it comes to telling a story. Humans are imperfect. It's why so many great musical performances aren't sung with exact notes and rhythms. So I can forgive a half-rhyme sometimes.
Yeah I totally agree. The mistakes that don’t break your suspense of disbelief Vs the ones that do!
It’s actually pretty common to talk about going red in the face when angry. Just look at the anger emoji -> 😡
Yeah I guess that’s true! I can make this joke but I’m very pale white so my face is always red 😂😂😂 no matter what.
Yeah I mentioned this to someone else but - I know they mean different things but I was willing to sacrifice it 😂
“Turning red” can also mean getting angry or irate. It’s a common thing I see with my friends from college
To clarify it’s not the word choice but the fact that it’s an odd number of rhymes! Like “Vees” “Wannabes” and “Heed”
I understand what you mean - but isn’t that also solved by modifying the line so it’s “we”. Like to me “we” is also “us” so we don’t lose anything.
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it 💖
I hope you make more videos on Hazbin Hotels music. Your videos make me think/listen more to music and song after watching your content.
Awwww I’m so glad to hear that!! I’m always excited to hear people are thinking more about music!!
@@CalxiynCaresTooMuch yeah fair, I think if Camilla's actually went red during the meeting it would be a stronger lyric😅
I am OBSESSED with this song, I was waiting for you to cover it XD
I felt like the part towards the end "You know why this angel's headless".
You said rhyming "misinformed" and "warned" was them rhyming with the "-ed"
But "form" very closely rhymes with "warn" aside from the m switching to n, so I think it works
I just don’t like the “m” “n” switch I suppose!
@@CalxiynCaresTooMuch oh I see
@@CalxiynCaresTooMuch I also had no problem with the rhyme, but maybe it didn't work for you because the "n" and "d" in "warned" are phonetically similar so they blend together really well as opposed to the "m" and "d" in "misinformed" which are more distinct
Omg that line also reminded me of when Frolo said "Look at that disgusting display".
One braincell 😂
Yeah I totally agree! It feels very natural. And thank you so much, I appreciate it!
Yeah I think that may be helping as well. I wasn’t sure what to categorize that moment as 😂
Regarding 'nothin' less than what I please//I'm the backbone of the Vees' I really don't think there's a breath, I think the lines just get evened out by Vel's little 'woo!' before she moves to the next line. And also yes, 'nothin' less' sounds very good, I dunno why either XD
Regarding 'uniformed' I think it's Carmilla just talking about the situation with the exorcist, helping allow Velvette to pick up that Carmilla must know something.
Thank you so much!!! I can’t wait to do more!
Doesn't matter if the brat is hers or not, if she says she's grounded the kid better obey.👺
Also, as a sidenote, I really like Zestial's verse here, it shows his intelligence very well.
As a result, they're actively underestimated by many of the longer lasting Overlords, which as you've mentioned, is even nodded to by Velvette's statement that "it's cause no one could respect this."
While the point of the Vees being reliant on trends and prone to reckless action is certainly not unfounded (as established VERY thoroughly in Radio Killed the Video Star), they still have the genuine competence and cunning needed to properly utilize the methods that succeeded in the first place.
So it's just really interesting to hear all these problems that I either didn't notice or didn't have lol
Edit: Aaaaah you didn't like WiT XD It's not one of my favorites but I thought it was so beautiful lmao
Ok so I've barely started this video so far but oh my god someone who shares my feelings on pop music
I've enjoyed a few things in the past but once I found musicals it's just been really really hard to turn back
I didn’t know you did these kinds of vids unpacking lyrics and songwriting! I was a music major trying to learn to compose music (primarily instrumental), but I’ve always wanted to take part these songs, but my vocabulary for theatre/pronunciation is only so good. I liked your perspective!
Ahhh I only saw this right now, thank you so much!! I hope that my videos continue to help!
I love respectless as a song it’s amazing
3:29 I think the concept you were looking for is consonance? Not 100% tho
I don't think that Carmilla was meant to "win" because she got the last word. The thing I and I think Velvet got out of that was closer to "don't run you coward" than her taking back control
Your criticism of these lyrics is really interesting to someone who doesn't think too much/know a lot about the specifics and mechanics
I really like the long videos. You explain your points really well and are entertaining to hear! Thank you for this!
Me who knows absolutely nothing about music theory: "I just like the funky beat."
That’s the foundation of music theory honestly /j
I'm so happy I clicked that video, the way you explain, so excited, made me smile all the way trough the video
Awwwww you are so kind!! I love hearing this from y’all 🥰🥰🥰🥰
The issue for me with Respectless is that it didn't have a payoff, she didn't help Charlie fight angels, not even a simple "hey, take x amount of aid from me, I'm on yo side"
Some will say "well, she just lied, egged on overlords to die in extermination while Vs consolidate power" ok fair nuff, but then why her reaction to recording was 😐.
You should do the EPIC musical, think you gonna love it (it is not completed yet but I think it is really good)
Warrior Of The Mind was my top song of the year last year. I’d looooove to talk about it!!

You know, you're not wrong XD

This video helped "Respectless" move from being my least favorite song in HH to not being my least favorite song in HH. This video made me realize I feel Carmilla's lyrics drag the song down (along with the lack of unique visuals animation-wise). As you mentioned, Vel's singing voice slaps and some of the rhymes are solid.
Thank you! Yeah I feel like Carmilla is like... the weird prologue before the song actually gets good. It's like The Wizard and I and how it has the Madame Morrible part at the beginning that everyone skips, LOL
If Zestial had said shan't, it would've meant something different. It's a shortening of "shall not." Can not and shall not are different.
Yeah that’s fair! I knew that when I suggested it but it’s more so if a slight adjustment of the meaning is worth switching out the word. Like I said either way it’s technically fine ^^
Can’t has more “we physically are not able to” whereas shall not would be more they don’t want to, but judging by the finale I think “don’t want to” would have been fine to say in hindsight haha.
when you talked about the "nothin' less than what i please" part, the thing you might have noticed about it is that the "nothin' less" part is done in a triplet. i always notice it because it seems like instead of the standard three eighth notes in a beat it sounded more like three sixteenth notes in half a beat
Ahhh that may be why. It's too bad there's no sheet music book yet or I could scan the sheet music for things like that haha
This are the lyrics that she proposed:
Show some respect
Check your behavior
No one speaks to Zestial that way
Did you expect
We'd sit back and take your
Insolent, brazen display
You've got it twisted
I'm not the one who needs a new attitude
Maybe you missed it
But I'm that hashtag bitch, and I will do
Nothing less than what I please
I'm the backbone of the vess
Mad that I acted respectless
Well, it's 'couse no one could respect this
Sorry, group attending
Since when are Overlords too scared to fight?
You're long past trending
Sorry, bae, but I ain't swiping right
You lost your relevance
We can't act without more intelligence
Ugh
No wonder I'm so respectless
When I could eat you lot for breakfast
You and the vees all mislead and misinform
Smug wannabees who don't heed the gatherin' storm
Oops, Did I strike a nerve?
'Couse when I brought out the Angel's head
Couldn't help but observe
That your wrinkled face was turning red
And why are you avoiding war?
That's what the guns you sell are for
Thanks to my being respectless
One thing I'm starting to suspect is
You know the Angel's won't forget this
We will speak of this no more
I have what I came for
i thought people still use respectless i do
It must be regional or something (I’m Canadian)
"Inane and Uninformed" is, I think, a foreshadowing of Carmilla's next two songs, as well as making her opinion about the Vees clear. As for 'misinformed', that has one more mora than 'uninformed' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mora_(linguistics).
Yeah, I know it would change the meaning of the sentence but I’m willing to change it basically for the rhyme lol
Zestial says cant instead of shant cause he changes the way he sings based on who he's singing to/with. He changes how speaks to speak in ways whoever hes talking to can understand. That's just my opinion tho ^.^
Yeah that's valid! I could see that!
This was my favourite song from the Show.
It’s definitely in my top 5!!
Yeah, it's not the biggest thing for sure. I wish they got a little more creative with it but it's not "wrong" per se.
I’ll definitely talk about both of those soon! They are really good!
the other Vs are relatively old while the second youngest is Valentino as he died in the 70s and the oldest, Vox, died in the 50s....only around 30 years after Alastor
Can't wait to hear what you think of Out for Love.
Huh, I had no idea that the word "respectless" is so uncommon in English. I supposed the word has its roots in the German influence of the English language because we have that word too "Respektlos" and it sounds perfectly normal.
Yeah we normally say “disrespectful”, or we’d say “you have no respect”, respectless isn’t very common.
The Vees are uninfomed because they don't know anything about angels, but want to go to war anyway. In my opinion, the usage of uninformed is good.
It's a good choice of word to some extent, I just want to change it for the sake of the rhyme.
personally i have a feeling that the beginning part might've been done like that on purpose as Carmilla just lost her composure and also the feeling of not knowing what comes next in the lyrics in this moment would actually make sense cuz shes basically scolding Velvette like a parent
I'm curious what your opinions on the episode 7 and 8 songs will be
I just saw them so I'll have to think about it a little more, but I really love the episode 8 finale song!
Amazing, and I liked how you expressed what you like and how it could be difficult. ♡
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
11:03 - "respectless is, in fact, a word" lol
I was actually surprised LOL
You should do a full cover of your revised version of the song at the end of these.
I would love to! I love the Epic so much 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
Yeah this is my favorite Hazbin Hotel song.
I think it’s going to be mine too!
It's not even my style of music either, but I like Respectless and think it's one of the better songs in the series overall.
I totally agree!
It really had Six: the musical vibes to me
Exactly!!
I think the space in thse "I will do nothing less that what I please" is right after "less," probably part of why you liked the phrase so much?
My *only* wish with this song is that they had a British actress play Velvette... because as amazing a Lili Cooper is, her accent is a little whack to hear sometimes
(Still one of the best British accents i've heard from an American actress though)
SHE ISN'T BRITISH?!??!!?!?!
@@CalxiynCaresTooMuch Nope, her wikipedia page says she's from New York :)
I think I quickly got caught on this song because the actress uses such a similar accent to mine, which was a nice surprise considering I was expecting them to all be American
