- In Episode 299 of Mike Finnegan's Garage we continue modifying my 1998 GMC Sierra W/T. I bought this truck in Texas with just over 12,000 miles on the odometer and then drove it about 1,000 miles back home to Georgia. Now it's time to make it lower, louder and faster in time to show it off at the 2024 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. This video is Part 2 of a full Ridetech coilover conversion and will cover the revamp of the rear suspension. If you want more info on the Ridetech kit, go here:

The Road To SEMA video series is brought to you by the good folks at Bling Sauce and it's Platinum lineup of car care products. Not only are the partnering with me on the videos but also an awesome contest that could bring you and a friend to the exclusive SEMA 2024 show in Las Vegas, Nevada 5-8. I'll have more details on that trip very soon but just know that you're going to be flown to Sin City, picked up at the airport by a car service, you're going to stay in a great hotel, experience the SEMA Show and meet this truck and myself in person. It's gonna be great! Don't forget that right now you can score 16oz bottles of Bling Sauce Secret Sauce, Leather Sauce, and Trim Sauce at Auto Zone and you'll save $4.00 if you grab two bottles while you're there.

I once used a yard gnome as a jack stand. His arms never got tired.
The fear.. but yet it would be so funny.. genius.
That's one strong gnome! 😂
Phe'gnome'inal.
I was going to add to this comment thread but what else can be said lol 😆
I know it may not be possible but being a Sema build. I would love to know some of the parts cost associated with these types of upgrades. Great stuff guys
46:55 Quick Performance customer service during the warranty return phone call, “Uh, Finn… we watched the video on UA-cam, so uhhh…”
Watching that diff roll from under the truck was hilarious 😂🤣😂😂
That lifting apparatus must make it to SEMA
lol.
And now... the Finnegan Garage zip tie moment...!
This episode should be called "three seals one caveman". 😂😂
I have a truck bed for my 1967 F100 sitting in my shed. I was trying to figure out how to pick it up and put it on the frame. Thanks, Mike, for showing me how to do it.
I love straight-forward installs like this.
Yeah my cousin is Bret Voekel , former owner/president of AirRide Technologies/Ridetech and his company has built tons of stuff for hot rods over the years.
I have parallel 4 link on my 78 C10 and had CoolRide air ride all around and had CoolRide air springs on back of my old 71 Monte Carlo
Brett is a good dude.
@@FinnegansGarage no doubt
We met Brett at Year One experience, the greatest automotive events in history. Brett was super friendly and seems like a great guy.
I always laugh watching guys fight trying to put the center section in. In my younger days dirt track racing with our modified we would have to change them for different tracks. One night we smoked a pinion bearing during the heat race, actually had it glowing red. Now trying to do it cool or slightly warm is one thing. Pulling one that is literally smoking is a whole nother world. At the time I was 6 2 and maybe 145 soaking wet. I could throw one in without a problem. Was so thankful when they changed the rules and let us use a quick change rear end. Went from a 30 min job to a 5 min job. Just had to remember that big man always goes on top.
It's called adrenaline.
Cool. WHO cares.
@@sveltergem2449 Don't reply if you don't care dude, FFS...
Unless you are at Bonneville then the big guy is on the bottom
"I'm just going to put this in park so it doesn't roll"... With a Bluetooth driveshaft 😂
😂😊😂
And no E brake 😂 I thought the same thing!
Awesome episode. Reminds Me of lowering brand new Toyotas and S10s in the 80s.
Also adding the wonderful tilt a beds as well. On trucks with 40 miles on them.
Good times.
Drive like that first for a before and after. Great job guys…….
I was waiting for the truck to fall on the floor while Mike was kicking on the c-notch
I would put surface shield by PB blaster on the frame , been proven best protection on metal ! PA man and Dad went and bought all the different mental protection stuff on the market . He left metal treated with different ones out for months on times and Surface Shield beat them all ! If you care !
What is this mental protection voodoo you speak about?
For those of you who have never broken in a new diff or even a fresh ring and pinion, let me tell ya.... Temps are thru the roof! Do the break in procedure thing if you want it to live. Its crazy how much heat is involved while the parts find their happy place.
Dried fabric softener on clothing and sheets is HIGHLY flammable!
Mike, that is a beautiful well thought out Coilover conversion kit, everything fits like a glove and looks to be very strong, time will tell after you take it to the limit.
Hey Mike, I have something similar to your Cadillac.
I call it a storage shelving rack😀!
Can't believe ya'll didn't spray some rattle can rust converter on the rear frame---well I can sorta believe it.
That truck is so clean. It reminds me of mine when it was new. I love this build..
That kit is so simple and perfect 👌 I gotta be able to fab up something like that pretty easily 😍
Come on people, any man that gets excited about saving a orange QP bucket deserves 1 million subscribers! Get on board and click that subscribe bell! Maybe then, we can get Joe his own package of Zip ties….
If it works , it works , great job improvising
I look forward to these videos all week
Thanks for watching!
That was quite satisfying seeing the rear end mounts match the Ridetech wishbone mounts. When installing hardware like this, no matter how confident I am about my measurements, it’s always a nail-biter to the end.
"We've got plenty of zip ties. So 4 aughtta work"
Zip Ties: 21st Century Bailing Wire
The red slippers on the bottom left of the screen @ 28:27 was funny was that Steve Dulcich waiting in the wings ready to help LOL
The silent panic on fins face when that axle wasn’t fiting and he was positive he had the long side lol
Looks very nice. That's an awesome kit
Good Old School Sport Truck Memories With Burnt Taco Tacoma Right Finnegan Straight From 90s
Approved!!! And I would have been very disappointed if no deck screws were involved.
46:04 @quickperformance cringing has Fin hammers the axle in place 😮
I hope you get a patent for the lifting apparatus and the Bluetooth drive shaft parking paw.😂 Someone should ask OSHA what the maximum lifting capacity is for a zip- tie with its relative thickness. This way we know how many to use😂😂.
Thanks again Mikie &Joe 😎🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
As soon as I saw you two clowns trying to beat that axle in, I knew something wasn't right... 😂
That's a $270 set of drill bits Incase anyone was wondering. 😳 They better work good. Damn.
andrewledford3865 And for that price you know how many sets of Harbor Freight drill bits I can buy. A bunch.
@@lilorbielilorbie2496 exactly.
@@lilorbielilorbie2496 and you know how much time youre gonna waste using those cheap bits? that 270 dollar set of bits have been in near-daily use in my garage for over a year now.....
@@FinnegansGaragebuy once, cry once!
@@FinnegansGarageI bought a set of numbered bits from Amazon and they have been great, most of the time I’m using them in a drill press. I was just looking for them last night. Nothing more frustrating than having to work your way up through different sizes of bits to get to the size hole you want. I finally bought a set of step bits, a friend kept giving shit because I didn’t have any.
Can`t wait to see the rest of the build Mike and Joe. Those parts looked expensive for the average Joe
Great content thanks for sharing
im loving this build
You're not lyin'... KnKut twist drills are excellent. We sold 'em where I used to work. Salesman demo'd them by asking if I had a grade 8 bolt. I brought him one, he put it in a vise and drilled right through it in seconds with no oil. And once he drilled through it, he ovaled the hole just by some side to side action with the drill. I ordered a display and some sets for stock right then.
When you clean the frame, PLEASE cut the original shock mounts off. Also at 54:30, putting it in park won’t help without a driveshaft right?
😂
Looking good!
Hell yeah my brother 🔥 🙌 💪
Looking good 👍👍
That seemed to go super fine.
I never thought I’d hear a grown man say, “Belly fur.” I choked on my coffee. Thanks for that.
4 years ago I would have paid top dollar for those 10 holes. I ended up buying a set for scrap metal prices and having a wheel shop go to town on them. Worst part is, they sit in boxes in my shop in prestine condition because I ended up throwing aftermarket wheels on it.
Good way to put your eye out, all them ziptie tails. Safety squints don't work for stab injuries.
This is a killer project. Pouring one out for the circle of Finn's belly fur.
I don't know about zipties but on my old 8 foot square body beds I built a large h frame to lift them off and on with a chain fall as I was building lifed trucks. On my obs stepside since they don't have an inner lip on the bedrails I used big ratchet straps. Like aircraft cargo size since I git them from my dad that ran aircraft cargo and they say for freight only no towing on them lol I crossed from stake pockets in an x and used my cherry picker. I work alone mostly. At best I can get my wife and youngest on a Sunday the only day they don't work at the same time lol. So you do whatever you have to to get work done.
When i did my truck i sent the bed over to my local line-x shop and had the inside and bottom coated. If your bed is in good shape i would suggest getting it done while its off. Saved some money in prep shop hrs and now its protected with some pretty durable coating.
Awesome video as always, the kit seems to have worked like a dream. This truck is gonna be so cool. Only gripe I have is I don't understand why you didn't remove the old upper shock mounts. Woulda made it look way cleaner. IMO.
Tried that roll with a transfer case and a floor jack. Works the same in every garage!
I've muscled around and installed a 10 bolt LSD rear end on my dad's truck before, by myself it was both tiring and dangerous, I don't recommend doing it, get a friend, get a family member, get help, it's possible to get it done by yourself, but doesn't mean you should
Your 510 is killing me, because I live in Canada!! I really hope you at least POR-15 the rusty frame. Nice kit from Ridetech; pretty sweet! Looks like you could have used somebody from Angelo's Gym to help y'all with that diff!😂 I'm loving this build, you guys! 🤘❤️🙂🇨🇦
So Phil here from Perth . Western Australia . I'm still waiting for the Tshirt from 2021 .
Mike, I’ve always used 4 motorcycles straps and a cherry picker to remove my bed by myself.
Looking good
Drive both ways. Gotta have a before and after time just like faster with you 🥂
Level of ziptie sketch, Professional!
"Hold on, I'll put it in park". LMAO, there's no driveshaft connection.....
Your comment about cardboard boxes not being the thing that broke your leg hit home for me. I actually tore my Achilles tendon moving boxes in a storage room, it was painful and embarrassing.
That's looking BA!
You have me wanting to build one now. But I’m currently building my Colorado drag truck and well. Now I’m broke. lol
my '94 Work Truck (W/T) I had in high school had a rear bumper and a spare.
Fab rats tested the white-out pen trick for cutting. It supposedly doesn't burn off like a Sharpie would. Could make cutting straight lines with the cut-off wheel easier. Could see it being useful with a plasma torch. Harder to make a straight line.
Dammit Mike...OWWW! It hurts to laugh right now😂
You need to talk to Freiburger and convince him to walk away from MotorTrend and bring the concept of RoadKill back to UA-cam. All the cool kids are already here and TWD has absolutely destroyed the original concept behind these programs all starting on UA-cam to begin with. There ain't nothing there for you guys anymore. All the creative freedom and enthusiastic fandom is back here with us. Come back here with the glory of paid subscriptions and patreons and get your checks without meddling middlemen.
KevinCruz-pu2ue The wheels have really fallen off over at mt. They are printing Hot Rod magazine only 4 times a year now. SMH.
Motortrend has been lead by a liar on a phone. I thought I'd be making television shows for the company, turns out no one believes what I say. I have over 300 automotive race victories and yet every time I'm trying to make a show I get pushed out and shoved into a car and I'm driven away. The Joe Dirt Daytona was mine until stolen and sold by various people. I doubt I will ever get my car or the respect I deserve.
@@JonStein-mu5ebGo home you're drunk.
Yes the good days
@@MichaelSmith-jv7zm keep proving my point. Thank you.
I installed this ridetech kit on a 92 OBS last week. I cannot wait to see how you guys overcome the QP+RIDETECH struggle.
~RIDETECH, PLLLLLEASE come out with an efficient way to attach QP 9 in. I ran into a problem on the obs, and I'm still running into a problem on my G-Body~
Finn, I have been a fan since before traumatic brain injury. You are the most down-to-earth dude, and I would love to thrash on some vehicles with you man.
+5pts for the constant fresh vans
And: I made the same mistake on the axle seals. Apparently QPS ships all of their axles with both seals on one axle
I'm so angry at you Finnegan for not helping get that pumpkin in, just standing there with the camera...help a brother out lol
Your 2 x 4 shld be turned up cuz thats stronger . When theyy r laid flat they sag . Great job , thx🤘🏻🏁
Right on time. I was about to get bored
Looks great with stock wheels.
I don’t know a single garage that hasn’t done some type of wishy washy downright dangerous activities with duct tape, zip ties, and a lighter. We don’t even have to discuss the amount of Coronas and Jameson shots….
Perfect hosts for Road Kill! How low can ya go? Sky's the limit! 😂
What’s th3 name again of the self centering drill bits that you used on drilling frame rails. Enjoy your show immensely and the home ideas of getting something done! . Really dig all the show you are in ! Enjoy and always be safe in all of your adventures! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
MIKE! Can we have permission to recreate Blasphemi in 1:64th scale on our channel?! PLEEEEEEASE?
So glad "chad" definitely had a different meaning to our generation than the current one, I was starting to think I had a false memory or something!
I wish I would have thought about the 2x4 bed support last time I had to pull one.
When you put the diff on the floor jack, I got that same look as the guy in Edvard Munch's "Scream." Nooooooo.........!!!!!!!!!
39:10 Me: Awwww!!!
Mike seemed to agree.
I am hoping for the Wire Car Kit but the car would be fun. I probably have not driven a stick since the 70's.
Man should’ve changed fuel pump while bed was off
Gotta fly Dulcich in for diff installs. No jacks needed.
I was hoping they were going to wash the back of the cab and the bed before they put it back together. Either way it’s cool.
I would drive it around before you put the rowdy V-8 in it, that way you can hear if your suspension, and tires are making any weird noises etc.
I will say have never got a third member from quick performance where the bucket hasn't been split!!
Ever used screws for the 2x4s? Lol or what I do is even use car straps in a x pattern hooked up in the bed where the tie down is and lift with hoist or lift arms 😂
And I hope you keep the V6 and do Bolton's to it I love the 4.3 V6
I love how you show your mistakes. We all make them and a lesser person would not keep them in the videos. 😂
I hope you're paying him good
i've used ratchet straps making an x in the bed and used a engine hoist to lift it that way and wood as jack stands incase it fell off the straps
I would really love to have that 4.3 but I guess 150,000 other subscribers would too
HULK SMASH ! ! ! ... 'Bruce Banner' ... "Ahh Shit" ...

Hey Mike, what’s the chances of getting a Rubber Duck t-shirt…..love to wear it cruising my 68 bird !! To buy obviously down here in Australia 😊
Is that rearend w/ the OBS mounts going to be available on their site now ??
I love the bolt on kit but idk about that kit holding 1000hp of axle wrap. Especially with just a ball joint for the pivit point
Mike, buddy, what's the GM paint code # for that truck ??
I LOVE that blue.... Keep up the GREAT content!!! T Y
HI GUYS ITS LOOKING BETTER ALL THE TIME . I THINK YOU WILL GO TAKE A RIDE BEFORE YOU GET THE NEW ENGINE ? I THINK YOU WILL . TODD FROM MICHIGAN .
Love the tinsel strength 💪 test of zip ties. And GM didn't paint the frames they wax dipped them.
I’m not here to judge, just here to help a brother out: the word is tensile.
@@jamesmunford spelling and auto correct. Well there not always my friends.
X two ratchet straps ftom the beds inner tie downs hook cherry picker where they cross. I do this in my shop I work by myself and works everytime. The 2x4 is wrong way should be turned for more strength your way or build something out of steel.
