I had my annual checkup at my doctor a month before we went to Greece. After we spent a month in Greece and came back to the US, my doctor couldn't believe my bloodwork was so perfect. He praised me for finally taking control of my health. I swear thst i didnt do anything. This all happened because of the Mediterranean diet I was exposed to in Greece. Every delicious mesl was accompanied by a Greek salad. Every meal had fish. Multiple side dishes with eggplant, peppers etc. For desert we were served yogurt with honey or watermelon. The diet made all the difference
@Rizla I don't agree with you. Is the obesity epidemic in USA due to psychological issues in half of the population or is the longevity of the okinawans all due to their good psychological condition? What about the Greek island Crete? If anything, we Greeks should have a very low life expectancy due to the economical crisis that has affected nearly all of us. Sure, our lives ARE getting shorter due to the crisis but who can attribute that all to bad psychology and not changes in dietary patterns such as opting for cheaper fast food rather than more expensive healthier options?

These cold days in the north I long for Greece.. What I love the most is that whether you go to the mainland or one of the beautiful islands, it's always something new - a new local twist to the ever-so-great food. I've eaten some of the best stews in Crete, some of the best meat dishes in Athens, and possibly the best greek salad in Chios and a fava bean stew to die for in Lesvos. Not to forget the hole in the wall restaurant in Rhodes gave me the most wonderful gyro experience. But wherever you go, great people and great food.
This vlog reminded me of when i was 13 and i had made some friends on the beach. I could barely speak english or greek and they ofc werent that much better with their english. But we played everyday together and they showed me some cool places around their town and similar restaurants and street food shops. One of the other kids was the son of a chef in one of the restaurants and in the evenings he gifted us some free foods and sweets while we were sitting down there in the kitchen. The places you showed us strongly reminded me of back then
We went there today, it’s locals restaurant, the food was really good and big portions they give, also the owner is such a nice guy, when we said we are Mark’s followers he was delighted and gave us Greek dessert for free💗

I actually can't wait to go back to Greece after lockdown here in Australia. Greek people have go to be a very strong and prided culture of people. Direct and down to earth no bullshit aside. They tell you what they think, they are happy to help you, they are hospitable, they do not care who you are, you are always welcome. The children of most Greek people are mature and respectful of elderly people, help their neighbors like no tomorrow. The Greeks are also very intelligent, I mean the foundations of mathematics and science comes from there. They are all about family and helping each other. Thats why even though they had an economic crisis, they survive, because they know how! I love the Greeks they are by far my favourite people and I have visited over 80 countries.
Omg I love my country so much, I feel so blessed that I'm Greek. I'm glad you tried traditional Greek food, you tried dishes that we actually eat daily! I love that you are so informed and appreciative of everything. God bless your beautiful family, this video made me smile!

OMG I'm needing some greek food! I lived in Athens for 2 months back in 1981. This brought back so many memories. I must say of all my travels, Greece has the best food ever!
Can we have more tourists like you, pleaseeee? Can you make a tourist school to train them before they come here? Seriously, I haven't seen many tourists (and I work in tourism sector) being so respectful and excited at the same time. Also, you couldn't have chosen better restaurants/taverns for the center of Athens.
Mark does his homework and his goal is always to show a culture and it's food in the best light by being that way he also shows himself and family in their best light someone you like to know
All memories of 4 years living in Greece come front of my eyes again. How I miss Athens and patra and thesaloniki and also great Greece food which is suflaki. I hope I could visit Greece one day.
Come again Brother and go to different places this time. Wherever you do you will be mind blown . literally just close your eyes point your finger to the map and go there. You will have the time of your life. Cheers from Greece my friend , be well.
I'm from Switzerland and truth to be told: most of the people here are cold to stangers, becuase it's strange to act different. I know they dont want to be mean, its just unusual to be not sceptical. If they see a baby they think "oh pls don't cry" people in Greece were "Oh what a cuuutie" and start smiling, laughing. 2 years ago me and my best fried visites Creta, it was the most enjoyable time in my life if. We didn't rent a car, instead called a taxi to visit some things, next day we called the same taxidriver again, because he was really fun even he couldn't talk any english, but we understand with hand and feets, I had a small dictionary with me and tried to translate oh it was sooo fun...after the 3rd day, last day before we left, he surprised us by inviting us to a tavern, run by a family member of him, right next to the ocean! We ate the most tasty fresh Gavros, drank smooth self brewed Raki, some incredible dishes too, talked to the familymembers, about life in crete and all sort of things, and I felt like part of them. Like they enjoy the time with me together, like and share what they have and just let you feel welcome...that's so complete different to how people are here! He didn't accepted that we pay for (what!!? I mean, he was a farmer and to survive he started to drive taxi, not a rich man but even then he invited us! of course we gave him a nice tip at the end^^) but I couldn't believe it at all. This is what people talk about, the Greek culture, but I've NEVER dreamed about it to experience myself because. So jeah, I do have just positive and lovely memories, and had some flashbacks while watching ^^
@Plejade *You say:* 2 years ago me and my best fried visites Creta, it was the most enjoyable time in my life . This is what people talk about, the Greek culture, but I've NEVER dreamed about it to experience myself" Plejade! This is exactly why I have fallen in love with Greece!!!!!! I am from North West Europe. We have money! But nobody is warm, nobody invites me just like that, friends are hard to make and a process of many years. But when I go to Greece I visit heaven. The country is breathtaking and incredibly diverse, 80% mountains that gives you breathtaking views around every corner. 16.000 km of the most pristine crystal clear seas/beaches, 6000 islands, perfect climate, unparalleled history, incredible culture, heavenly food and the biggest treasure of all: the incredible hospitality and warmheartedness of the people. This combination is truly inspirational and leaves anyone speechless. 10 years ago was when I visited Greece. And from that moment since I have visited Greece everytime
Ptolemy336VV , ooh I do understand every single word how you mean it, while reading I was thinking YES eeeexactly yes yes :D It's something of the most difficult thing to get in contact with someone here, if you talk to someone unknown they think you are a weird person, as a man you are pervert, it's so sad. And once you explore a culture in the south (okay, I only know Italy and Greece) it's SO overwhelming. Of course, it was not "the real life" with all the problems they have to handle while I was there, but it doesn't matters, because in this short time they also don't show this to me, they show joy, hospitality, laughts and just have a good time. Here I feel everyone is pissed of something, grumpy, and let everyone know it... I have a wonderful life, hopefully no one gets me wrong, I've got a nice place to live, good food, enough to buy clothes and those things, the medical care is excelent and I will have enough to live when I'm old, I don't have to fear to starve ect. But I just miss those "heart warming things". We have to go back to Greece some day :D thanks for sharing your toughts ^^
You are right. When I was in Switzerland they acted very arrogant or at the very least, aloof. The Greeks and Italians were much more friendly and helpful. Too bad, because Switzerland is so beautiful, and people would stay longer if they felt welcome.
I watched this over 3 years ago (pre-covid) when I was researching for my holiday to Greece in 2020... that never happened! Currently in Athens and today we ate at diporto! It was amazing!!!
Wow!!! We must visit here. Love the simplicity of place but look how solid is food. Sardines house wine from barrel and it comes with ice tray to keep it cool!!! Just wow! I love Greeks and Greek food. Lovely people! Love from Turkey

Athens is my dream city since I am so into Greek Mythology and History. Thank you so much Mark, Ying and Micah for letting me experience it with you guys through this video. Excellent narration as ever Mark 👍👍👍💕💕
This was the first Mark Wiens video I stumbled across. I liked how wholesome and positive he was. Five years later, his videos are the first I look for. He makes me want to keep travelling, meet the locals and try their food.
Thanks to this video we ate at Dyo Dekares I Oka restaurant. It was the best meal we had in Athens. Best broad beans and garlic dip. We'd go back in a minute. Thanks!
I love all Mediterranean food ... All Mediterranean countries make amazing dishes ...They all make it very hard for you to dislike anything they make 👌🏼👌🏼🤗😋
Even though I haven't got a chance to travel the world food, but you already brought me to many amazing places, Mark! You are a hero of your beloved family💐
The Spanish are not wonderful! I livid ther for 4 years. They are very clicky and once they know you not a tourist they cut you off...it's all Manana... ER don't think so...when it comes money it's now.....
Micah's a traveler, just like his dad. 😊 I loved how he was grabbing at the tablecloth, trying to get at the loaf of bread! I hope you can taste food together someday soon.
This is the video that i am waiting for! The famous acropolis! You can visit more historical sites in Athens like Hadrian arch and the temple of olympian zeus. If you still like the Olympic history, do visit an ancient site in Olympia where the torch lighting ceremony is carried out using the traditional sun method.
Yong De Tan I have been to the ceremony multiple times; it's awesome to see. Also they often ask school students to carry the torch as well (for a small distance)..very cool.
Thanks for sharing Mark. I with to Greece on my honeymoon.Athens was just one of stops and it was beautiful. Thanks for taking me back. I love Greece 🇬🇷

Not unlike most of you MW video fans I’m insatiable. Micah’s facial expressions and reactions are priceless. I loved the way he just pounced on that loaf of bread. The family that eats together...
I’m currently living in Athens for over two years, each summer I travel to the islands..it’s paradise. The food the culture the history. Hope you and your family will come back, lots has changed since then. Watching this was nice but you should have had someone that truly showed you life changing experiences.
Such delicious foods and what a lovely city. I cannot believe that this city is right on our European doorstep and I (Maxi) have never been there! Maro has lived 15 years on Crete so she cooks these foods very well at home and I love them. Safe travels to you all wherever you are! Best Regards from Maxi and Maro.

Many of us will never get the chance to visit places like this, but you Mark open the gates for us to catch a glimpse of beauty and history. Thank you very much to you and your family and sometimes your friends👊😊
I’ve been seeking ‘the food of my people’ for many years now and I read online today about the delicious food in Greece. This is my first search and I am blown away. How marvelous.

I’m coming to Greece just to embrace the experience, thanks Mark
As a Romanian i really like Greek food its one of my favorite
How awesome!
I grew up in Vouliagmeni, south of Athens
Thank you for visiting Greece, hope you revisit some day soon!
How can anyone hate you and ur videos ? Man it's all awesome

Plejade!
Plejade That sounds amazing! Safe travels!
Plejade I totally agree with you!
Come my brother, you will feel like home. Trust me. Ordinary Greeks love Turkish people and vise versa. We are the same , we yell , we laugh , we hug each other all the time. I wanna visit your beautiful country one day too. Never had the chance.
I lived in Athens for two months in 1998. This video totally took me back. Such a great city! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Micah's a traveler, just like his dad. 😊 I loved how he was grabbing at the tablecloth, trying to get at the loaf of bread! I hope you can taste food together someday soon.
Revina Que Where is Micah from..?
This is the video that i am waiting for! The famous acropolis! You can visit more historical sites in Athens like Hadrian arch and the temple of olympian zeus. If you still like the Olympic history, do visit an ancient site in Olympia where the torch lighting ceremony is carried out using the traditional sun method.
Yong De Tan I have been to the ceremony multiple times; it's awesome to see. Also they often ask school students to carry the torch as well (for a small distance)..very cool.
Your baby is so adorable! As a parent it is so hard to take a baby out when you dine out, but your little guy is so well behaved and happy!!
Manners start at home.
