insane how IX can be perfectly lighthearted and humorous and also feature the darkest stuff seen in the series, what a game!

That’s why I love the game so much. It’s dark, but lighthearted at the same time and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. 😊

@@williamsanborn9195 I am going to VASTLY disagree with the “doesn’t take itself too seriously” part, I am sick of hearing that claim.
It's funny how the fanboys will whine and accuse VII and VIII of being "too dark and emo" when IX gives us stuff like Cleyra getting nuked, and it's being done by a really shallow, over the top, moustache twirling, cartoon villain like Brahne. (Whose motives just amount to the juvenile, lazy, and incredibly vague "she's just greedy"… If it can be called even that, since the game never really properly explains what made her pull a complete flip on her behaviour and go completely nuts. And if that wasn't ridiculous enough, the game will then try and make a cheap last minute attempt for you to try and feel sorry for her)
This is one of IX's big problems, you'll go from a cutscene of war crimes and an entire city being obliterated… To Steiner just being goofy. Honestly, they overdid it with the destruction aspect. Thousands of innocent civilians are obliterated left and right, but you're supposed to ignore that and care about characters melodramatic "existential crises" and forced slapstick in a world where a crazy queen can kill many in seconds. IX has constant mood and tone whiplash, and it's ironic how some people will claim that IX "isn't taking itself too seriously" when really it's the opposite.

9's not really 'dark' so much as it's edgy for the sake of trying to have a dramatic moment.
The game is very obvious about how it was a goofy spinoff that suddenly got promoted to Main Installment halfway through development because square wanted to start a new console generation with a double digit final fantasy game for marketing purposes - it's very schizophrenic up to the final boss who's practically the posterboy for random bullshit final bosses.
IX being so “dark” is something else I hated about it. For all the whining about VII and VIII being "excessively dark and emo", suddenly the nostalgia fanboys worshipped IX for being “Lighter and Softer” like the old games. In IX, I almost never saved anything. Most of the plot was my party showing up in the nick of too late and watching people die. Or in the case of Garnet, being a bloody moron and creating the deaths in the first place by running back home like an idiot.

0:01 [Garnet jumps off of the castle roof and swings on a rope]
I'd like to point out that the same girl that just did all this, will then, after successfully running away from Alexandria, devolve into a really clichéd naïve princess stereotype that doesn't know what crops are, thinks that her megalomaniac mother can just be talked down to (despite not even trying to talk to her mother before running away from home when she had the chance), has barely any real personality, has a lot of whining and angst (wangst) and will abandon Zidane and go back to Alexandria like a complete moron.

you have serious cinemasins brainrot she loved her mother and couldn't believe she would do such things and if so maybe talk her out of it as her daughter it's something a human being who experiences things called emotions would do

@@EddDoubleDD I’m really starting to notice a pattern here, people who defend IX tend to resort to childish insults and dodge the question of why Garnet didn’t just stay home to begin with and just talk to her mom. If her mother was so darn pleasant that Garnet could have just talked her out of it, why run away from home in the first place? How much more evidence did she need, combined with what she'd already known about her mom that drove her out of the castle in the first place?
It begs the question of why Garnet wanted to go to Lindblum in the first place if not because she thought she couldn't trust her mother anymore or thought she couldn't stop her mother's aggressive actions alone.

IX’s soundtrack is a bit bland and uninspired compared to other mainline FF games, but there are a few exceptions in it. Like Garnet singing.
Also, glad to see someone else acknowledging that IX’s story was mediocre.

Its an alright game, not too great but also not terrible. Its my favorite simply because I am like Zidane in almost every way and I was playing it when I needed to find someone that was similar to me even if he/she was a fictional character. Also Vivi is cute and his story is sad!

    • @Zelink108
      @Zelink108 4 місяці тому

@@brandonstinson4988 It’s pretty terrible, especially since the whole beginning of the game was rendered completely pointless when Garnet arbitrarily decided to run back home like an idiot, making the whole “kidnapping” completely pointless. Heck, Kuja’s whole hunt for the Eidolons (which took up roughly 70% of the game) turned out to be pointless since he could have just focused on achieving Trance from the beginning this whole time.

@@brandonstinson4988 Also, Vivi’s story was wasted potential: "Mist is distributed through the Iifa Tree's roots and is, in fact, the Gaian souls being refused to return to the crystal and expelled to flow back into Gaia's atmosphere instead. These stagnant and tormented souls are reborn as monsters."
The Black Mages are made from the Mist, which is actually the souls of deceased Gaia inhabitants, this means that the Black Mages are actually dead people resurrected (if only for a short while) into artificial doll bodies. Which would actually all be very interesting stuff, but unfortunately the game doesn't really take advantage of this and instead cheaply opts to rip-off "Blade Runner", which doesn't even fit. With Blade Runner it had androids that gained sentience, but here with IX, the Black Mages are literal "Ghosts inside the shells", which makes all their ramblings about death pretentious and melodramatic when they are technically already dead, they just couldn't return to the crystal and be properly reincarnated.
Sure, Vivi and the other mages don't really know all this at this point, but they should have at least had some recollections or vague memories of when they were human (or any other anthropomorphic creatures like the rat people) which would continue grow and they would remember more who they were originally which would have been especially interesting with Vivi. Yet we get nonsense like how they "don't know what jokes or humans are". This was all really big wasted potential.
