Naaah, ya just need more practice! But, hey, running gag :) I get it.
Hey, I know this is a weird question, buuut -- the two background music tracks, when you're doing the work there, what are they? They sound amazing, but they're both tripping my head up something fierce coz I know UA-cam makes you use that "epidemic sound" mess, but both sound like backing tracks to something very, very 80s and at least vaguely popular. I _swear_ the first one makes me think of Simple Minds, and the secondm of Journey. I'm probably a bit 'round the twist and it's nothing of the sort, but I'd like to know for sure... sources, please?

Well done. For future ref, with the Y1 NPN transistor, 2 pins facing you, the base pin is on the left. Keeping positive probe on base, connect negative probe to right hand pin (emitter) and then pin on its own (collector) should be something between 0.4V and 0.9V in diode mode. Something a lot higher when probes reversed. Should also check between collector and emitter for shorts. Readings depend on what else is in circuit.

Every time he (she?) pops up, I know that everything is right with the world (despite all evidence to the contrary) and that everyone is all part of a giant sentient machine, glomming around the multiverse, making squeaky noises and generally rolling along in the ether, having a good time. In short, a mini-nirvana.

Hi, Steve. Here is an idea. Why don't you get a magnet with a rubber cover. To pick up the chips and things you unsolder from the board's your working on. And leave it on the magnet to test it. As that is what the rubber coating on magnet is for. It would stop you pinging them across the room and hoping you have another one. Its lust an idea.

  • @mightywiz

On a transistor like Y1. When measuring in circuit and device is on, you should see a .6 volt differential from 2 of the pins if the junction is active. Example: one pin reads 2.9v and another reads 3.6v, that’s your .6v differential. If you see the .6v difference then the transistor is good. To test a transistor out of circuit you want to put meter in diode mode and take 6 measurements. You will measure base & collector then base & emitter then collector & emitter. Then swap the probes in you hands and measure the connections again. A good transistor will have Two readings that measure .6 volts If you have anything else then it’s a bad transistor. This true for all silicon transistors unless it has a bleeder resistor inside.
